A convoy was pushing through the field. A front of Titan tanks backed up by Trojan APCs, all being watched over by Anansi attack helicopters. Before the invasion, it would be a pretty formidable formation on it's own, but against the Strogg, it was the bare minimum.
"There are large Strogg formations in the distance, command. We're sure to engage them if we keep going forward" one of the helicopters reported.
Miles away, James Gordon, commander of this detachment, responded over radio "Keep going. If the satellites are correct, ahead is one of the spots where the new aliens dropped. If the Strogg are here, then they know that too. We need to reach them first."
The convoy sped onwards to their destination.
"Thunder, you can't seriously be thinking that these new guys are gonna be on our side, right?"
Henderson, codename Thunder, took a second to form a response. "I don't know whether the new aliens will help us or not, but our orders are-"
"I know what our orders are, but their bullshit! Command is insane!" Janet, codename Lash, had been the most outspoken of their team upon learning what they were being sent to do. "We're in the middle of the worst invasion in human history, and command wants MORE aliens?!"
Jimmy, codename Vulture, spoke up from the back. "Can't be worse than what's happening now. Sitting around, waiting to die, that ain't a way for anyone to go."
As the two got into a very heated argument, Thunder sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. No doubt discussions like this were raging in every Trojan that heard that new aliens had landed.
The driver choose that time to yell out "Brace for impact!" which was about how much time Thunder had to react before something very large collided with his APC and knocked into onto its side. In the chaos of the collision, he crashed into Lash and tumbled around before landing in a disgraceful pile.
"Everybody get out right now!" At least now they get their shit together. In a second, everyone had gotten up, reached for the nearest gun, and reached for the top mounted door, now laying on the side. Thunder ran out first, wielding an N22 Shotgun. Dennis, codename Crush, came up behind him clutching his pads. As the team's medic he always had them on him. Vulture and Lash both came out screaming, sniper rifle and shotgun in hand. Finally, a hand moved in front of Thunder's face.
"You forgot this."
Maw (Thunder never learned his actual name) held out the N93 GPMG while hefting a LAW Rocket Launcher onto his shoulder. Thunder quickly moved his shotgun to his back and picked up the machine gun. They would certainly need the firepower. He could already see the problem. A division of Strogg Hog trucks had zeroed in on their position and one of the bastards had taken to ramming his Trojan. The vehicle had already been blown up by one of the Titans escorting them, but he could see at least five more coming in. Maw had already taken aim and fired his LAW, brutalizing one of the trucks, but the remaining four were undeterred, starting to open fire with their lacerators. His team quickly ran behind the wreckage of the APC for cover, distantly noting the other Trojans and Titans were opening fire.
Until one of the Titans exploded in a storm of metal and fuel. That meant Desecrator tanks, they were facing more than just scouts. The Titans turned around their guns to focus on the distant vehicles, Strogg armor would force them to land several hits in order to disable one of the enemy's vehicles. The rockets of the Trojans continued to fire and fire, Maw unleashed another rocket of his own before ducking back into cover. Suddenly another heavy thud crashed into the APC from the other side and before anyone could react, a Berserker had leaped out of the Hog, onto the wreckage, and was bearing down on his team. Thunder couldn't even react as its claw reached down for him…
… before it's head exploded in a shower of gore, claw just an inch from his face. Thunder yelled out a thanks before peaking back out to fire his machine gun. Strange, he didn't see anyone else with a sniper out.
Teris continued to observe through the scope before turning to send a message through his omni-tool.
'Large detachment of armored vehicles seen moving towards base, hostile to invaders, likely native. Will continue to observe.'
Well, finally got another chapter out. Sorry this took so long, finals then writer's block made for an awful pair. It's a bit shorter than I'd like, but again, I've been gone for a while and would like to get something out today.
The codenames are something fully from Quake canon. The main characters of II all had codenames, I headcanon Ranger from one is a codename, and Champions confirmed it's a practice that went back to the GDF.
The Berserker is from II. Expect more of them.
Now onto the responses:
krahe on Spacebattles: Fighting stroggs will do wonders to human-turians relations, nothing ties people like fighting a common enemy, especially when the enemy is so unapologetically horrific as a brainwashed cyborgs horde harvesting corpses for resources and cheap wave assault cannon fodder
Your damn right. This is a story were the turians and humans will get along nicely.
ADeter on FFN: I really liked one ME/Halo author who made his Mass projectiles arrow head shape and sized small yet still lethal the weird thing about Sand size projectiles is the biggest sand size there is would be 2mm which is a actual projectile size but its pretty useless
How effective would an arrow shaped bullet actually be? I'm not asking rhetorically, I'm legit interested now.
evolution-500 on FFN: Very cool chapter. I spotted some missing punctuation, but overall, looking good so far. Will the Strogg be connected to the Reapers, if not Shub-Niggurath from "Quake 1" in this story?
First, the best way to give criticism is to point out specific instances of failures. Just saying there's some missing punctuation doesn't help me if I'm not sure if I'm just forgetting something or just wrong about a rule.I don't want to come off as an asshole, but just saying there's an error doesn't actually help me that much.
And the thing about Strogg and Reapers is
