Hey gleek!
Welcome back to this story! This is a very cute chapter! I'm excited for you guys to read it! Also, sorry if you don't really like Quinn in the chapter. She improves a little bit as this season goes on! Lol
Also warning on hard language and aggression! Loll! enjoy!
"Wait, you're mom and Kurt's dad are getting married?" Sam asked Finn after their long math lecture together.
Finn grunted and shook his head in disbelief. "Don't remind me."
Sam wondered how it would be to live with Kurt. He assumed Kurt was a neat freak but he also heard that Kurt likes to cook so that's a plus.
"Look at the positives. You guys can carpool to school, you can cheat off his homework. It'll be great." Sam smiled as he stopped by his locker as Finn stopped as well.
"You don't know what it's like living with Kurt." Finn almost snarled at his name.
Sam scoffed and took out his history book. "And you do?" He asked.
Finn pressed his lips together and looked to the side. As if he's trying to repress a memory.
"I almost did. Till I said some things I shouldn't have and Burt kicked me out." He huffed.
"What did you say?" Sam was curious. He wants to know Kurt's limits.
"Stuff." Was all Finn said, making Sam roll his eyes. "But it's all resolved... sorta. I feel like Kurt kind of still holds resentment towards me for what I said." Finn grunted again.
Now Sam really wants to know what he said.
"If I ever marry Rachel and we have a family, I won't let it get this complicated." He huffed.
"This complicated?" Sam questioned. "Didn't you guys get into a fight because you had a turkey burger for lunch?" He asked with a confused laugh.
Finn breathed out a small laughter as well. "She's a vegan. She thought I was trying to offend her. It's a long story."
Sam raised an eyebrow. "Seems pretty short to me."
This conversation got Sam thinking. What would his future look like? Sure, he's only sixteen; but will he have kids? Will they be happy?
He didn't notice that Finn was now gone. So Sam just continued to take books out of his locker.
He almost jumped out of his skin when his locker was closed shut by someone behind the door.
It was Quinn Fabray herself. Looking how she always looks. The same cheerleader uniform and a high pony.
"Quinn!" Sam exclaimed. "Hey..."
He felt bad about how things left off between them and he hoped she kind of did too. Because it was both of their faults.
She had a devious smile on her face as she stroked his arm slightly. "I'm sorry for the other night." She mentioned in her usual soft voice.
The boy looked at her for a second. Wondering if she was being sincere or not. By the look in her wide eyes and furrowed eyebrows, he believed her.
"Me too." He replied. What is he apologizing for again? For not getting hard?
Her fingers went from his arm, to his shoulder and up towards the back of his neck. Giving him full body tingles.
"It wasn't your fault. You're a teenage boy." She simply stated as Sam nodded to her with a small gulp. "You're just confused."
This made Sam gulp again.
Sam might be confused but he doesn't want to admit it. He likes girls. He knows that much. But he's a football player, he's dating a hot cheerleader, he's finally getting a good reputation around here, he can't screw this up.
"Confused?" He asked, with a stutter.
She nodded. Her hand is still on the nape of his neck. "It happens. It never happened with my other boyfriends, but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen to you."
Such a backhanded comment.
Sam felt ashamed and embarrassed. He doesn't want Quinn to tell anyone and he trusts her to keep that promise. It's a given. She shouldn't have to be told.
"You know..." She started again after a moment of silence. "Prom season is coming up..."
Sam raised an eyebrow at her. "It's November. Isn't prom season not until May?" He asked her.
His old school never had prom since it was an all boys school. He wasn't allowed to go anyway since he was only a freshman.
"Never too early to plan. We are definitely going to win." She smirked.
Sam was taken back. Why is she talking about this already? How does she know they will win? Because they are the typical prom couple? A cute football player and a beautiful cheerleader?
"Is that right?" He asked.
"Yep! I've been planning this day since I was twelve! You will definitely boost my score!"
That statement left a bitter taste in Sam's mouth. Is that all Sam is to Quinn? A cute accessory?
Sam brushed it off and tried to think about it as a compliment. She thought he was charming.
"Well..." He started. "Maybe I should escort you down to the dance floor, my dearest queen!" He spoke in a very thick English accent, with a little bow of emphasis.
She stared at him in confusion with her signature eyebrow raise. He straightened back up and cleared his throat after a little bit of uncomfortable silence.
"That's my Prince Phillip impression. You know, the prince of England? Husband of Queen Elizabeth and second--"
"Yes, I get it." She cut him off.
She was later cut off by the sound next to them.
He peered over his girlfriend's shoulder and saw Karofsky once again, harassing that poor brunette teen.
"Mr. Shue!" Sam raced into the teachers office after the second period. The teacher was just organizing the paper on his desk.
"Sam!" Shue said in surprise. "What's going on?" He asked.
Sam inhaled deeply. He had to finally break this silence and he beat himself up for not doing it sooner.
"It's about Kurt."
This made Mr. Shue look even more concerned. He got up and told Sam to sit on the chairs as the adult sat on the desk to get closer.
"What about Kurt?" He asked.
This made Sam want to roll his eyes. How oblivious are the teachers at this school? Anyone in a ten mile radius can see the way the jocks treat Kurt and it's not okay.
"He's bullied and harassed all day in this school! That's all I've seen since I've moved here and I think it's finally started to take a toll on him."
Sam thought back to earlier when he was talking to Kurt and noticed how mentally exhausted he looked afterwards. On the verge of tears. Yet, everyone walked on by and not one person stopped to help.
Suddenly, he was snapped out of his thoughts when a box of tissues were moved closer to him. He didn't understand why at first until he noticed small tears were going down his cheeks.
Add this to the list of things he should be embarrassed about.
He took the tissue but didn't use it to wipe his face, only to tug on for a fidget.
"I can see this is affecting you alot. We're concerned for Kurt too, but--"
"Are you though? Because whenever he gets shoved into lockers, no one seems to give a damn!" He snapped.
He doesn't understand where this anger is coming from. He thinks about Kurt alot but they don't know each other at all.
"He's been getting irritated a lot recently. He's been lashing out more. We've been keeping an eye on him. You saw the way he lashed out during Glee the other day, but were keeping an eye on him. The guidance counselor is worried too." He started in a soft voice. Sam bit his lip in frustration.
"Why would she be worried?" He asked plainly. As if it wasn't obvious. Mr. Shue just sat back. His mouth agape. As if he was going to say something but didn't have the courage to. Or maybe, he just wasn't allowed to.
"If I'm being completely honest with you, Sam..." The teacher started. "We're worried Kurt might hurt himself. The symptoms he's displaying are common in suicidal teens. We've talked to his father once before, and we believe Kurt needs some people who are just like him. Someone he can talk to. But no one here is like him. So the best we can do is just keep an eye on him and make him feel included."
Sam just stared at the teacher. Tears frozen on his face.
The teen started to feel guilty. He truly did. He didn't know Kurt was in a place where he might hurt himself. His chest felt heavy as he exhaled deeply. This proves that the teachers here know about the bullying, but they aren't doing anything about it. They are simply just keeping an eye on the boy being bullied when they have the power to stop it.
But either way, Sam feels like he could have done more.
His knee was bouncing up and down, quickly. Like lots of people with anxiety tend to do. He looked out the glass door of the teachers office as Mr. Shue started talking again, but it was all zoned out.
Kurt was at his locker once again. Sam was observing his posture. His usual tall and proud frame was dull and small. Like he wanted to remain hidden from the world. Watching him made the world seem bright.
Suddenly, the world flashed to gray seeing the same neanderthal doing the same thing every time. Knocking the books out of his hands and shoving him against the locker.
That made Sam's blood boil and he ran straight to the door, only to be blocked by Mr. Shue.
"Sam, don't! We got this!" Mr. Shue told Sam as he walked up to the commotion and scolded Karofsky to get back to class.
Sam bit his lips harder. He knew the second the teacher was out of sight, then it'll simply go on again.
Sam now knew he must take action.
It never ends.
The torture never ends.
Ever since the locker room kiss, Karofsky has been on Kurt's back even more. Sometimes, he wouldn't even say anything. He'll just stare at him seductively and with a smirk. On time he stroked his chest but left with a hard shove to the floor.
Still, no one did anything.
Maybe some of the Glee club girls will ask if he's alright but that's all. Nothing that'll stop these jocks.
Kurt felt isolated. He's glad he could talk to Blaine about all this stuff. He's so sweet and nice but he has to admit, his advice to "stick up for yourself" really backfired. He knows it wasn't Blaine's fault, Kurt just really wished his first kiss wasn't stolen from him. He's a hopeless romantic, he wanted his first kiss with someone he truly loved.
After he got really shaken up by Karofsky and Shue found him, he led him to principal Sylvester where she claims there wasn't anything she could do since it never got physical.
The boy almost slipped and said some things he probably shouldn't about the closeted jock, but held his tongue. He doesn't believe in outing, even if it'll make his life so much easier.
He made his way to the lunch room, which he dreads the most. Right next to the bathrooms and the locker room. So many of his designer shirts were destroyed in this room.
He saw the girls table. Which consisted of Rachel, Mercedes, Tina and even Santana, Brittany and Quinn decided to join today.
They seemed to be whispering about something. Rachel, being as dramatic as she is, leaned over the whole table to whisper to Tina, but sat up after hearing Mercedes whisper, "Here he comes!"
Rachel cleared her throat after almost knocking over her water bottle, getting back to her seat.
"What are you girls talking about?" Kurt asked as they already made room for him at the table.
"We decided we were going to have a sleepover! Just the girlies! With you of course!" Rachel flipped her hair out of her face with a smile. "We were discussing which house to have it at."
"Not mine. My cat clawed through all the furniture so my mom said no one can come over till we get him declawed and can teach him some obedience. Whatever that means." Brittany spoke in her usual gentle tone. It was followed with a second of silence.
"Okay then..." Rachel continued and pointed to Kurt. "What about you, Kurt."
The boy was filled with an overwhelming feeling of frustration but mainly tiredness. He has a lot on his plate. School work, and planning for his father's wedding.
"Sorry, Rach." He started "I don't think I'll be able to go. I'm kind of overwhelmed at the moment." He stated simply.
All the girls looked in his direction as they nodded. Tina stroked his hand. The whole time, Kurt was looking down at his plate of food but the second he looked up, he saw Karofsky standing near the exit, his eyes glued to him and he gave him a sickening wink.
This gesture made Kurt lose his appetite completely.
He dropped the carrot he was eating and had to urge to spit out the remaining carrot he was swallowing, but he ended up swallowing it anyway to not bring attention to himself.
"Are you excited for your father's wedding? For Finn to be your brother?" Tina asked in excitement but all he felt was shame.
This was just a really bad day for Kurt Hummel.
Having a jock for a brother should feel neat but it wasn't. Just another person to tease him at home. Atleast his father was happy, right?
"Yeah!" He said in false excitement, "Very." It was a quick response but easy.
Finally, he was saved by the bell. He thought leaving during lunch would bring attention to himself, and he didn't want that. His clothes already bring enough attention.
He quickly said goodbye to the girls and scurried off. If only he knew that they had a meeting about him beforehand. They wanted their boyfriends on the football team to help Kurt out because they noticed his behavior has been off and this just confirmed it more than ever.
Sam noticed Kurt was barely eating at lunch. The one thing the boy hates about McKinley so far is their obsession with labels. Everything is so one dimensional.
Jocks are jocks. Nerds are nerds. Shanks are Shanks. They can never collide or else the world would end.
Or more specifically. It'll ruin their reputation.
Finn seems to be the one who is more worried about it then all. Maybe the New Directions need a new leader. Someone who isn't afraid to be a man.
"We need to do something about Kurt!" Sam spoke. Not caring anymore about his developing reputation.
The guys in the hallway, more specifically Mike, Artie, Puck and Finn, all looked at Sam in surprise.
"The girls talked to you too?" Artie asked as he looked up at the blonde boy.
"No..." Sam responded simply. "I've just seen Kurt around and if the teacher isn't going to stop the bullying, then we can, right?" He asked.
"Hey, I'm all for it." Puck started with his hands up. "Everyone knows the Puck man loves some good violence, but I'm on probation..." He hissed out. "If I get caught in a fight, I'm going right back in the slammer. I can't go back! They don't even give you toilet paper... or a sink.. and you have to go with everyone else watching... it's not my thing." He started with a nervous cough.
"Okay then..." Sam began again. "What about you guys?" Pointing to Mike, Artie and Finn.
"I'm with you, Sam. Kurt's one of us now." Mike stated. Patting the boys back.
"I second that!" Artie chimed in.
They all subconsciously waited for Finn to chime in as well. "Finn?" Sam asked.
The boy still remained quiet.
Puck slapped Finn in the back of the head to get him to respond but he just sighed.
"Guys, I can't help." He mentioned.
Puck gripped his shoulder with tension. "Are you on parole too?" He asked, as Finn shoved his hand off with a groan.
"No, I just..." He hated how much of a coward this is going to make him sound. "I just became cool again. My reputation from last year is finally back. I can't screw that up." He sighed deeply.
Sam couldn't believe his ears. Finn is twice Karofsky's height, so it has nothing to do with the fear of being bullied himself. He just doesn't want to be known as the guy helping out a gay kid.
"Are you serious?" Was all Sam could say as he glared Finn down.
"Don't give me that crap, guys!" Finn glared back. "I already got it from Rachel. I don't need a lecture from you guys either."
Sam just felt betrayed. Why did Kurt have to have Finn as a brother?
His thoughts were interrupted with a hand on his shoulder. "It's okay, Sam. It's three against one. We got this." Mike smiled at the blonde boy. Making him sigh in relief.
"Well two and a half." Puck started, as they all looked at him in confusion. "You know, because Artie's dead from the waist down and I'm just going there in spirit." He finished with a nod.
"So the locker room at three?" Sam clapped his hands in confirmation, as the other boys nodded.
They all left Finn in tow. He doesn't want to admit it, but the guilt was setting in.
"Stop picking on Kurt!" Artie glared at the taller jock who was getting dressed in his locker. His wheelchair squeaked with rage.
The jock looked over at the shorter boy and scoffed. "Do you mind? I'm changing."
"We're serious!" Mike snarled, as he slammed his locker shut with rage, making Karofsky go back in surprise, but he turned back to Mike and Artie in anger.
"This is a warning-"
"Oh yeah?" Karofsky immediately challenged the Asian boy.
Sam was waiting for his chance to jump in. His fists were shaking in rage as he watched on. Puck was standing behind him, but Finn, of course, was missing...
"From now on, you're going to leave him alone!" Artie demanded in intimidation. Sam never thought the nice nerdy boy could look so scary when angry. He really was brave for sticking up to a tough bully, being handicapped.
"Look..." Karofsky started as he fixed his jacket. "If he wants to be a homo, that's up to him, but don't rub it in my face." Karofsky snarled in disgust.
"We're not asking." Artie stated slowly and calmly, yet menacingly.
"Yeah." Mike agreed. "We're done talking about this. Just back off, alright!" The Asian boy got up right at the jocks face, and suddenly was pushed back.
"You back off!!" Karofsky pushed the boy into Artie. Which made them both fall over on the ground.
This made Sam snap. Who does this guy think he is? He's a coward. Picking on people smaller than him!
Sam lunged on the bigger boy and almost immediately was shoved into the lockers himself. He got the strength to push Karofsky off and had him pinned against the locker. He screamed in pain.
Mike, Artie and Puck looked on in awe. Concern etched on their faces but mainly amazement. This new boy stood up for the people who never would.
Sam got punched across the face and was knocked to the ground. The fight got more aggressive when they were both knocked to the floor. Karofsky was punching him over and over again till Sam saw stars. His mind was getting fuzzy.
"Hey hey hey! What's going on!?" Coach Biest exclaimed as she broke through the doors after hearing the commotion from inside.
"Get up!!" She shoved both boys to their feet. "What the Hell's going on here?!"
Both boys were daring to dart at eachother again but didn't dare to move a muscle with their intimidating Football coach holding onto them.
"Sam was just sticking up for his friends, Coach Biest!" Mike said from behind after helping Artie back in his wheelchair.
Biest took one more look between Karofsky and Sam. She noticed Sam had some new swelling rise up his cheek bone that will most likely turn into a bruise or a black eye.
"Both of you are going to the principal's office and to the nurses! Come on!!" She shoved them out of the locker room, walking them so they'll get there.
She dragged them in the hall and walked with them aggressively.
Kurt was walking down the same hall and almost darted once he saw Karofsky, but instantly calmed when he saw Sam, but got concerned seeing his matted face.
So many emotions in just a few seconds.
He stopped as he watched them pass him, but his eyes never left Sam, and Sam's never left Kurt's, but not a word was spoken between the two. That seems to be the story of their life's.
"Kurt!"
The boy was startled out of his thoughts by Mike placing a hand on his shoulder from behind. Puck and Artie in the tow.
"Are you okay?" Mike asked as Kurt looked back at Sam, Karofsky and Coach Biest trailing away.
"Yes." He simply stated. "Is he okay?"
The two football players exchanged looks with one another and Puck put a rough hand on his shoulder as well. "We'll explain everything."
"Well well well, isn't it the young Ryan Gosling..." Sue pointed to Sam as he sat in the principal guest chair, next to Karofsky and Biest behind them, with her arms crossed. Even though this is a serious matter, Sam smiled at that beautiful nickname. Such a compliment.
"And the old Bruce Willis..." She pointed to Karofsky. Sam tried all he could to hold in his laughter, but Karofsky looked about ready to fight.
"I swear, I didn't do anything, principal Sylvester! I was changing and this guy decided to jump me!" Karofsky pointed at the blonde teen.
Sue sighed calmly and looked towards Sam. "Is that true?"
The boy sighed once more. Like technically, it was true but he had a reason. A reason Karofsky was unaware of.
"Yes." Sam stated.
He could audible hear Coach Biest sighing in disappointment from behind them.
"But he's been pushing people around. Like Kurt! I was sticking up for him." Sam replied. Karofsky leaned back in his chair and rolled his eyes. Sue bit her lips.
"The second complaint this week about bully from Karofsky. What else is new?" She looked at the jock. "But not my poor, sweet, baby face porcelain. He's special to me." Sue got up and went closer to Karofsky and leaned down till they were face to face.
"Three strikes and you're out of here, amego!" She explained to him, but he started to get flustered. "I swear! I haven't been doing anything! Hummel has been harassing me! He's trying to get with me, I swear! That's what Sam was doing too! I'm trying to tell them I'm not interested--"
"Stop!!" Sam snapped, as he shot out of his chair in anger.
"Sam, sit down--" Coach Beist shouted from behind the chairs, but Sam waved her off.
"Why can't you get it through your thick skull that not every gay dude is trying to molest or convert you! They have more important things to do than to assault guys like you!" Sam shouted but that seemed to have triggered something in Karofsky as he felt anger rise within him again, and he launched at Sam with his fist, but luckily Biest's quick reflexes stopped it.
"What's wrong, Sam? You got yourself a big old crush on Hummel?! Isn't that why you're protecting him when you could be king of the school! But no, you choose to protect a faggot like him!"
That did it for Sam. He threw his fist and punched Karofsky repeatedly till Biest and Sue were finally able to pry him off.
"Karofsky! Evans! Outside! Now!!" Biest yelled as she pointed to the hall. They both obeyed silently.
"Wow. I haven't seen that much violence since my college years." Sue said calmly as she sat down at her desk like nothing had happened.
Once the boys and Coach Biest were outside, she crossed her arms with rage.
"Karofsky! I don't know what's been getting into lately but it needs to stop! Non-stop fights and aggression from you! Keep it on the football field! We'll talk more later! Get back to the locker room!" She yelled as Karofsky stalked away in anger.
"As for you, Evans!" She pointed to the blonde boy. "I know you're new but I thought you were better than this! I'm sorry to say this but I don't think you're right to play quarterback."
Sam was taken back. That's not what he expected her to say at all. "What?" He asked again.
"You heard me. I'll have your new position picked out by tomorrow." She stated as she began to walk away. "Get your act together, or you're off the team."
Sam huffed as Karofsky's words stuck in his head. How did this all get like this?...
It was Glee club once again and Kurt couldn't believe what Mike told him.
Sam beat up Karofsky? For him?
No one ever cared that much before and for the first time in a long time, Kurt felt a small light at the end of the tunnel.
That tunnel was soon crushed again by seeing Sam walk into the classroom. All battered and the black eye already forming.
Kurt immediately got up from his seat and they both made eye contact. Once again, no words were spoken, but Kurt walked forward as Sam did as well.
Soon, Sam was engulfed by a tight hug, from his girlfriend, Quinn.
Which left Kurt staring at Sam who was still looking at Kurt over Quinn's shoulder. His arms wrapped around her waist.
All the other Glee members went up to check on Sam after hearing what happened. All except for Kurt and Finn, who made eye contact with one another.
Quinn pulled Sam down into a chair and stroked his hair. She was prepared with a cold ice pack that soothed the thumping pain. Tina was comfortable with Mike, and Brittany was doing the same thing to her boyfriend, Artie. Though, she mumbled something about being turned on at the thought of Artie in a fight.
The rest of the Glee kids were just waiting for Mr. Shue to arrive because they plan on practicing for Burt's and Carole's wedding. Luckily, the boys were still okay to dance and sing.
"You guys should have seen Sam! He was wild!" Mike exclaimed as Artie agreed with him.
"How bad does it look?" Sam asked Quinn, as his eye throbbed against her hand. She smiled with a bit of a lip. "It's pretty hot actually."
Kurt felt like gagging but proceeded to mindlessly search through his backpack to keep his hands busy.
"You don't know how hard it was for me not to jump into that beat down!" Puck grunted, fist tight in anger.
"Where were you, Finn?" Santana sassed as the tall boy who was silently sitting in the front row next to Rachel. All eyes on him now.
"I was still on the field, okay?" He mentioned. He looked straight ahead to avoid eye contact with anyone, especially Kurt's. He could feel his disappointment from his eyes lingering on the side of Finn's head.
"I totally would have given him the beat down if I was there though!" He exclaimed, but Kurt and Sam both knew that was false.
"It shouldn't have gone down without you, Finn!" Mercedes chimed in. "You should have been leading the charge!"
"Lay off Finn, everyone." Kurt finally spoke up. All eyes on him now. "It isn't his problem. It's none of your problems actually."
Finn bit his lips in guilt, but remained silent.
"But thank you for what you did." Kurt sighed. "Especially Sam."
The blonde boy's heart sped up quickly, and fluttered a bit. The blood rushed to his face as the boys in the back agreed with Kurt. He smiled but stopped as it brought pain to his eye.
"What's going on?" Mr. Shue asked as he walked into the classroom. He stopped, noticing the injured boys. "What happened to Sam's eye?" He asked in concern.
"He stood up to Karofsky." Quinn muttered.
"All the boys did. Well, except Finn." Tina mentioned, causing Finn to roll to his eyes. As if he didn't feel guilty enough, they all had to rub salt in the womb.
"Is everyone okay?" The teacher asked. "Do we all have to talk to principal Sylvester?"
All the Glee kids looked at one another with uncertain glances.
"No! No!" Sam exclaimed. He remembered the talk he already had with Principal Sylvester and the scolding he got from Coach Biest. "I got in a few good locks too, so we decided to call it even." He lied.
Mr. Shue noticed Kurt sitting more silently than usual. Avoiding eye contact with his peers.
"And maybe just send a warning to Karofsky to tell him to back off Kurt." Sam muttered quickly, but noticed Mr. Shue's concern and glanced at Kurt.
"You okay, Kurt?" Mr. Shue laid a hand on the boy's shoulders and tried to get him to make eye contact with him, but Kurt just continued to look down at his fingers.
No, I'm not fine...
Kurt just nodded his confirmation. Making Mr. Shue straighten back up with a sigh.
"All right, guys! Let's take our places. We got a wedding to prepare for." Mr. Shue clapped his hands as all the kids got up from their seats quickly. Rachel gave Finn a disapproving look before they both joined the rest of the Glee members.
As Kurt was about to get up, he accidentally dropped the binder that was on his lap. He cussed under his breath as he bent down to pick up the papers that fell out.
His hands were met with the hands of a tougher and much tanner person than his own. Someone with a letterman jacket sleeve.
He didn't even need to look up to know it was Sam.
He places his hand on Kurt's, making the boy look up at him. He did so, but softly.
"I got you, Kurt. I'm here for you." Sam smiled at the boy. Kurt smiled gently but not for too long. He looked back down as his duty to pick up the papers, but Sam gripped his hand once more.
"Okay?" Sam wanted to confirm with Kurt. Dipping his head to the boys level. Kurt smiled again, but with more confidence.
"Okay." Kurt breathed.
"Isn't that what they say in that one movie? You know? About the girl with cancer?" Sam asked as he helped Kurt stand up straighter. The binder in his hand.
"The fault in our stars?" Kurt confirmed, shyly. Sam thought for a moment, then nodded.
"That's the one."
Sam could notice Kurt looking towards Finn with longingness. The blonde boy could tell Kurt appreciated Sam's concern but the person he wanted it from the most was the person who would never give it.
Finn.
The rest of the rehearsal went smoothly. Sam could notice Kurt's lack of energy during the dance number, and his tension towards Finn and vice versa.
The second Mr. Shue called the end of rehearsal, Kurt was out of that room the fastest. Some of the Glee members looked concerned but didn't bother going after him. Sam didn't either.
In fact, he had someone else he was after.
"Hey Finn!"
Sam stepped in front of the tall boy and the rest of the Glee club stopped as well since the boy was blocking the door exit.
"You need to get your act together and help your brother!" Sam finally snapped. Anger rising.
A few of the girls were taken back by his forwardness. Finn held back a breath but remained silent.
"All of you do! We need to do a better job at protecting him!" He exclaimed.
"Sam." Mr. Shue stepped forward to the teen and sighed. "We did. We always have."
Sam grunted and shook his head. "Do you honestly believe him when he says he's okay? Did you see him during rehearsals? He's not okay!" Sam stated. "I know there isn't more that we can do, but I want to let him know that we got his back." Sam mentioned as he turned to Finn. "Especially you, Finn."
Finn sighed and nodded his head. Finally coming to the realization that his brother's safety is more important than his reputation.
"You're right." He muttered, softly. Rachel perked up behind him. Looking at her boyfriend with pride.
"I know what song we should sing for him."
"You're dancing with me, dude." Finn smirked as he leaned down next to his new brother after his very emotional speech. Not a dry eye in the audience.
Kurt shook his head in obedience as the Glee club gathered around. Kurt smiling bright and wide. Tears in his eyes as well. He felt his heart beat faster as Finn held out his hand to Kurt as he gratefully took it and was led to the dance floor.
Kurt was engulfed in a tight hug by Finn as Carole wiped a tear and Burt looked at his new step son, proudly.
Sam smiled from the side as he watched Finn and Kurt. His thoughts were interrupted by Quinn coming up towards him, and leaned her head on his shoulder. He stroked her hand and smiled down at her but he looked back at Finn and Kurt, tears in his eyes as well. He never saw Kurt this happy in a while.
It was the end of the night and the guests were filtering out of the building. People hugging their friends and family goodbye.
Burt put a hand on Kurt's shoulder and engulfed him in a hug, and wrapped Finn in a hug as well. "I'm proud to call both of you my sons!"
Sam was walking hand in hand with Quinn as he turned back to wave towards Kurt and Finn. Only Kurt saw this gesture and waved back with a shy smile.
Before Sam got in his car, as well as Quinn, he heard his name being called.
"Sam!"
He turned around and saw Kurt run towards him. He stopped looking him straight in his eye. Kurt had the urge to remove his hair from his dark black eye.
"Finn told me it was your idea to perform." Kurt simply stated.
Sam nodded and stuffed his hands in his pocket.
Kurt swallowed thickly and suddenly looked nervous. "Can I hug you?" He asked, hesitantly.
Sam sighed, gratefully and nodded. He was the first to hold his arms out. Kurt smiled and wrapped his arms around the blonde teen. Since he was a few inches shorter, he leaned his head against Sam's chest. It was a tight hold but it meant alot to both of them.
"Thank you." Was all Kurt said before breaking the hug, and scurrying off towards his new family.
Sam looked on with a small smile, before sighing and getting in the car to drive his girlfriend home.
It was school again and Kurt was feeling a new sense of confidence that he hasn't felt in a while. He had a tall, strong, football player as a brother who was ready to protect him no matter what.
He has a new step mother who is as sweet as can be, and his father is happy.
He's been texting Blaine more often so he feels more seen than ever.
He has Sam as a new friend who also vowed to protect him. As well as Mike, Artie and Puck!
His good thoughts were interrupted by a familiar football player pulling him into the locker room. His mouth was covered by a meaty hand. His eyes met Karofsky's.
"Karofsky?" Kurt muttered, after he placed his hand down. "I thought you were suspended."
Karofsky looked madder than ever, as his mouth was tight with rage. "You tried to screw me over, Hummel! My suspension was terminated. You couldn't get rid of me that easily!" The boy exclaimed.
Kurt deflated. He really didn't have the energy for this.
"Please." Kurt sighed, tears in his eyes. "Please leave me alone, Karofsky. You're the one who kissed me, why are you treating me this way?" Kurt has never sounded and felt more vulnerable then he did in this moment. So much so that Karofsky even felt guilt rise in his chest.
Karofsky tilted his head down and glared at the smaller boy through his eyelashes. Everything turned upside down so quickly. The jock placed his hand on Kurt's chest, making the boy's hairs stand up. His eyes didn't leave the taller boy out of fear of what his next move might be.
"You're the reason I'm dealing with this! You're the reason my grades are slipping! You're the reason I almost got kicked off the football team, you're the reason I can't sleep at night, you're the reason I can't be normal! You're the reason for everything, and I will make you pay!"
Kurt could see the anger in Karofsky's face, but not only that, Kurt could see the pain in his face that was being hidden by the scrunched up face of rage. Kurt is grateful he has a supportive father who loved him unconditionally, a new loving step mother that is nothing like they show in those fairytales, and a new step brother who vowed to protect him from people like Karofsky, but what if the latter does not have the same support he does? What if this is his way of releasing his pent up anger?
So Kurt squeezed his eyes shut. Ready for the blow to come to his fragile face.
He opened his eyes when the blow never came. He saw Karofsky's fist in mid air being stopped by another hand engulfing his.
"Why don't you grow up, and deal with your problems on your own?!" Sam snapped as he made eye contact with the other jock. Kurt saw him tense up. "Don't forget I know your little secret!" Karofsky ripped his arm back from Sam's grip, making his fist jerk back and connect with Kurt's eye, making him fall to the floor.
Before either of them can react, Karofsky pinned Sam against the locker. "If any of you tell, I will kill you with my bare hands! You hear me!" Tears rose in Karofsky's eyes but he aggressively blinked them away, hoping it wasn't seen by any of the boys.
"Karofsky, it's not a big deal–"
"You're one to talk, Evans!"
Sam tensed immediately and looked towards Kurt who looked confused, but mainly with concern to the blonde boy.
Sam snapped and went towards Karofsky again and leaned into his face, his breath hot. "Some day, the truth will come out for both of us."
Kurt grabbed Karofsky's shoulders, pulling him off his friend. Anger and more confusion was shown on Kurt's face.
The big jock shook his head and groaned in frustration before leaving the locker room.
--
--
It never ends.
--
Sam noticed Kurt was barely eating at lunch.
--
"Stop picking on Kurt!" Artie glared at the taller jock who was getting dressed in his locker.
--
"Well well well, isn't it the young Ryan Gosling..." Sue pointed to Sam as he sat in the principal guest chair, next to Karofsky and Biest behind them, with her arms crossed.
--
It was Glee club once again and Kurt couldn't believe what Mike told him.
--
"You're dancing with me, dude." Finn smirked as he leaned down next to his new brother after his very emotional speech.
--
It was school again and Kurt was feeling a new sense of confidence that he hasn't felt in a while.
"The truth will come out!" Sam yelled once more at the retreating bully.
