Iris was currently recuperating from her recent surgery of having her bionic arm installed and while it didn't have any nerves in it, at least not yet, Iris could still feel it in a way. And it felt so weird, having this piece of metal or what she was told was actually some kind of space age polymer, not that she really understood any of that, since science was Barry's specialty, not her's, but anyways, it felt weird to have a piece of technology literally grafted onto her body. It would definitely be a while before she got used to that, though thankfully, it seemed like this arm was a quick study in learning to communicate with her brain, since it had been a week since the prosthetic was installed and already Iris had begun to master basic hand-eye coordination. It was by no means perfect, but the fact that her arm was somewhat usable by now was an improvement, since she could now move her bionic fingers and even close her hand into a fist, but she still couldn't move her arm yet, but hopefully she'd be able to soon, since the sooner she gained control over this arm, the sooner she could finally get discharged from the hospital. Which was good because after spending months surviving off military rations and hospital food, she wanted some real food. Preferably from Big Belly Burger.
"I come bearing gifts." Gabriella said with a smile as she entered Iris's hospital room and showed her a bag of Big Belly Burger.
"Oh, you are a true friend." Iris said.
"Well, since Barry is still going through treatment for being struck by lightning, someone has to sneak you junk food behind Caitlin's back. Especially since I feel your pain more than most, since now that I remember what real food tastes like compared to what they served in the mess hall overseas, I'm never going back." Gabriella said.
"Even if I could go back, I'm not, since I think we both know we were sent into a trap." Iris said.
"Yeah, I know. I still can't believe Eiling did that, but until we can prove it, we can't do anything. Though now that you're on the road to recovery, you should know that I got a call from the joint chiefs earlier this week." Gabriella said.
"Why?" Iris asked.
"Because you're being awarded the purple heart and we're both going to be receiving medals of honor for our service, though I'm guessing that Eiling arranged that one to try and keep us from investigating him." Gabriella said.
"Still, I'm not going to complain about those medals, since at least I get something out of what happened." Iris said.
"True. And at least our team is going to receive a hero's burial and their families will be receiving full benefits." Gabriella said.
"God, I don't even want to think about how I'm supposed to face those people. I was their squad leader and I led them into a death trap." Iris said as Gabriella squeezed her good hand.
"Iris, it wasn't your fault. You didn't know it was a trap and they know that. But anyways, you'd better start eating this before Caitlin comes back and starts reading me the riot act for bringing you this crap and you the riot act for eating this crap while you're recovering." Gabriella said and Iris chuckled as Gabriella handed her a burger.
"I can't really complain about that since I sneak that crap too." Caitlin said with a smile as she entered the room.
"It's true. But you never bring me Big Belly Burger." Iris said before taking another bite.
"I'll keep that in mind." Caitlin said.
"Anyways, I've finally found a place to stay here in Central City that's in my price range." Gabriella said.
"Really, that's great." Iris said.
"Yeah, now I just need to go furniture shopping to make the place feel like home." Gabby said.
In case I haven't said already yet, the actress who plays Gabriella Gomez is the late great Naya Rivera.
