Today was cool and cloudy, but nice weather to be outside as it was in the 60s today. Shaggy was playing frisbee with Scooby, while Courage was chewing on Eustace's work boot.
"Hey canine," a voice suddenly said getting Courage's attention.
Turning to the voice, the pink beagle saw Di Lung approaching him with his smirk and ever-present shades.
"What do you want Di Lung?" Courage groaned in exasperation, in no mood to deal with Asian man. He continued to chew on the boot, he had still not forgiven the Asian man for turning him and his best friends into flies a month ago. He could of gotten them all killed if it hadn't been for him.
"Courage dog. Want to play quick game of fetch?" Di Lung asked pointing to Courage, he then took out a stick and placed it in a launcher that he clearly made himself.
"Huh?" Courage asked confused.
And the cowardly pink beagle grew even more confused when Di Lung shot the stick extremely far away that he could no longer see it.
"Fetch," Di Lung said pointing in the direction that the stick went in.
"Yeah, right," Courage said coldly, as he went back to the boot, sending Di Lung a quite transparent glare. If Di Lung thinks he was gonna fetch a stick that was far away across the world, he was sadly mistaken.
Di Lung turned and saw how Scooby was fetching the frisbee Shaggy had throw, he give the frisbee to Shaggy, who rewarded Scooby with a pet on the head.
"Good boy Scoob, are you like, ready?" Shaggy asked, picking up the frisbee laying on the ground and was ready to throw the frisbee again.
"Reah, yeah," Scooby panted happily, jumping up and down.
"Go fetch it old buddy!" Shaggy shouted, as he threw the frisbee far off the farmland.
"Scooby-Dooby-Doo!" Scooby yelled, racing after it.
Di Lung then turned to Courage, who was still continuing chewing the boot and answered "As dog, you no good. And like this," he grabbed Courage.
"Let me go!" Courage shrieked, flailing around helplessly.
Di Lung ignore the pink beagle pleas, as he placed him into the launcher and firing him before He then began to laugh, "FETCH!"
Courage suddenly came back and landed on the ground, hard. Groaning, he sat back up.
"No stick?! You no good dog two times!" Di Lung said while throwing down his launcher onto the pink beagle when he saw Courage did not have the stick.
Courage groaned, as he collapsed on the ground and moan a bit in pain from the launcher Di Lung had hit him with.
"I bet I can make better dog than you, you'll see. Courage dog, joke," Di Lung declared before taunting, before leaving.
Courage, who was searching his mouth for a moment before pulling out the same stick Di Lung launched. At that moment Shaggy and Scooby had came over to the pink beagle, as they both saw that Courage was suddenly on the ground.
"Little pink dude, are you alright?" Shaggy asked worriedly, looking at his little best friend that was suddenly on the ground.
"I'm okay Shaggy, Just a bit sore in the throat from having this stick lodged in there," Courage assured as smoothly as possible, taking a few deep breathes.
"Row did you get on the ground and that stick stuck in your throat?" Scooby asked, wanting to know how to help him.
Courage began sweating and twitch in nervousness. He gulped, searching for the right words to say. The last thing he wanted to do was to tell his best friends about Di Lung. They already been worried about the supernatural stuff that happens in the farmhouse on a regular bases, there was no need to tell them about his problems. So he came up with a quick lie. "I accidentally got a stick stuck in my throat from chewing on the boot."
"Roh, okay," Scooby said, taking the pink beagle's word
"Like, okay little pink dude, just be careful were you chew next time, come on Scoob, let's go help Aunt Muriel make dinner," Shaggy said, turning to the Great Dane.
"Ralright Raggy," Scooby blurted out, with a grin, as he and Shaggy were about to head over to the farmhouse. He glanced over his shoulder and asked, "Roming Rourage?" he called back to Courage
"No, I'm gonna stay out a little longer, you guys go ahead," Courage said to his best friends.
Scooby give a nod of acknowledgement and turned his head, as he and Shaggy walked towards to the farmhouse.
Courage sighed sadly to himself, he really want to tell his best friends of what's bugging him and he really hated to having to lied to them. But he also didn't not want to bother them with his problems, besides that's what best friends do, right?
In the kitchen, Shaggy and Scooby were both in the kitchen helping Muriel with dinner, while helping cutting up some of the carrots the two couldn't help but thinking about Courage and how he was looking down, after their conversation.
"Ruh Raggy?" Scooby said, to his owner.
"Like, what is it Scoob?" Shaggy asked.
"Rave you notice Rourage was acting a little strange?" Scooby questioned.
"Like, now you mentioned it, the little Courage guy was acting a little weird earlier when we went to check on him," Shaggy uttered. "Like, he was-"
"Riding something," Scooby finished.
"Yeah, like he's not telling us something," Shaggy said. "He knows like, he doesn't have to hide anything if something was bothering him."
"Re's definitely avoiding something," Scooby said. "Ras soon, as dinner's over, we're gonna go talk to him."
"Muriel!" Eustace shouted, as he startled, Shaggy, Scooby and Muriel.
"Like, angry old dude, don't do that," Shaggy growled irritably.
"Grow a spine then stupid nephew!" Eustace scoffed back at him, before turning to his wife. "There's a flood in the basement I gotta fix! Where's me other boot?!" he demanded, as he lifted his foot, that was bare.
"Oh, I haven't seen it Eustace," Muriel answered.
Scooby and Shaggy knew where the boot was, but they're not gonna, for Courage's sake, as he was looking a little down today. And he definitely doesn't need to deal with the old grumpy farmer right now.
"Stupid dog, probably took it," Eustace grumbled, before turning to leave, only to bang his toe on one of the chairs. "Stupid dog! Take's me boot, and leaves a chair in front of me toe!" he screamed in pain, before falling down outside of the kitchen.
"Oh my," Muriel said.
Shaggy and Scooby couldn't help but have an amused laugh at the old farmer's bad luck.
Back outside, Courage was still chewing on Eustace's boot, when he was once again greeted by Di Lung.
"No good dog, meet Mecha-Courage," Di Lung said as he approached the small beagle.
Courage sighed with annoyance and thought. Now what? He was about to turned and tell Di Lung to leave him alone, but as soon as he turned his head around, a loud vicious barking was heard, he saw a strange dog heard coming out of a pink round robot thing that had a red bulb for what we can presume is a nose.
Courage's eyes widened and he felt like he was on the verge of having a panic attack. He let out a startled shriek.
"What the heck is that thing?" Courage whimpered, as he trembled with fear.
"He better dog than you in every other way," Di Lung answered laughing while poking his finger on Courage's head. He then turned to the 'dog.' "Chew boot."
Courage let out a scream and jumped back when Mecha-Courage pulled out a bar filled with blades. It then spun up and absolutely destroyed the boot. Leaving nothing but shreds of it left.
Poor Courage slowly backed away, terrified by the robot's away of 'chewing' a boot.
"COURAGE!" Muriel shouted from the house.
"Now I prove my dog better dog, be better dog," Di Lung declared before ordering Mecha-Courage to do so.
It barked before speeding off to the house. Courage's mouth and nose were full of dust and dirt, he coughed and retched. While dirt was spreading into the air and Di Lung laughing.
Back inside the house, Muriel was by the stove watching something cook. Behind her was Shaggy and Scooby. Though, they were too preoccupied to notice Mecha-Courage enter and go up to Muriel.
"You're looking mighty fit today Courage, must be the vinegar I put in your dog food," Muriel said when she saw Mech-Courage and mistook it for Courage, despite bearing no resemblance aside from the color.
"Bleah," Courage said in disgust at that while sticking his tongue out, as he looked inside through the window.
"MURIEL!" Eustace shouted getting everyone's attention as he entered the kitchen.
At this point, Shaggy and Scooby had looked up and spotted Mecha-Courage, their eyes going wide at what they saw. What the heck was a robot doing in their kitchen?
"Where's me boot. How am I going to fix the flood in the basement without me boot?" Eustace asked.
"Like dude, what's with the pink robot?" Shaggy asked.
"Rand why does Ruriel think that is Rourage?" Scooby asked with a confused frown.
"Hey stupid dog! Where's me boot?" Eustace demanded.
Then, from the top of the head, came out two giant gloved hands that grabbed Eustace's sock clad foot and started massaging it, next it took out a ruler to measure his foot before pulling out an exact replica from itself and placing it on Eustace's foot.
"Look at that!" Eustace said, astonished
"Okay, like, how do they still think that is the little pink dude?" Shaggy shook his head, bewildered. Astounded that both Muriel and Eustace simply smiled and thought that was normal, despite the fact that two robot hands and a shoe came out of it.
"Rou're asking me?" Scooby asked, raising an eyebrow.
Courage rushed inside the house and passed Muriel, Shaggy and Scooby and followed Eustace to the basement. Getting there, the cowardly pink beagle saw Mech-Courage raise itself on its wheels so that it stayed above water, it then went over to the pipe and took out a wrench and fixed the leak.
"Wow, you ain't so stupid after all dog. But you're still a stupid dog," Eustace said admiring what Mecha-Courage just did before reverting back to insulting him.
The robot pull out a vacuum and started sucking up the water.
"Oh, look at him sucking up that water, hey, nice," Eustace said admiring what he just saw.
Courage growled in irritation, feeling his anger and jealously getting the better of him as he ripped off the fur on his head, and ran out through the door and passed by two concerned best friends, who both looked at one another in worry.
"Rourage?" Scooby frowned in slightly unnerved concern.
Shaggy, Scooby and Courage were all in the kitchen with Muriel, with her standing in front of the cabinets where they keep the plates.
"Could you set the table boys?" Muriel told the three best friends as she started to hand the trio some plates and utensils.
"Like, totally Aunt Muriel," Shaggy said as he took some plates himself.
Shaggy took some as he gave it to Scooby and Courage, but before they could leave or Courage get his share, Mech-Courage came in and took everything with the many robotic hands he has before going to the dining room.
"Hey!" Courage yelled at the robot in anger.
Curious, the three best friends followed it into the dining room where they saw Eustace sitting down waiting to be fed. Shaggy, Scooby and Courage saw Mech-Courage start setting the table.
And going a bit overboard as well, he pulled out from his robotic body a dozen different glasses for drinks. Each one for a different type of drink. Then it took out five different forks and two different knives and placed them next to the plate. And to top it off, it took out a lit candelabra and placed it on the center of the table, Mecha-Courage then started to play the violin.
Courage gasped in shock at seeing this, his jaw hitting the floor with all his teeth coming out as well, while Scooby held Courage's jaw back up.
"You know, for a stupid dog, you ain't so stupid, but you're still a stupid dog," Eustace said with a rare smile before returning to his usual frown and insulting Mecha-Courage, still believing that it was the real Courage.
Shaggy rolled his eyes and muttered to his best friends, "Like man, doesn't not anything ever please's this guy?"
"Tired of fishing the old-fashioned way?" the reporter asked.
"Sure am," Eustace answered.
After dinner and putting away all the dishes, the family decided watch some television to let the food settle.
"Then try the brand spanking new super deluxe mega fish stick 4000!" the reported announced showing before changing to a fancy looking fishing rod.
"Would you look at that rod? Boy, oh, boy, what I'd do for that." Eustace said in total admiration of the fishing rod before frowning when the family heard a knock on the door. "Muriel! Someone's at the door, got to get me that rod."
Courage let out a heavy sigh, "I'll get it." he off her lap and headed to answer the door.
"Oh, thank you Courage," Muriel said.
Courage walked over and grab the handle to open the door
Courage gasped when we saw that it was Mech-Courage. "No! No no no no!" he pleaded. "Not again!"
"BOW-WOW," it said before barging through before the cowardly pink beagle could close the door, and was smashed into the wall in the process.
"That fishing stick is every man's dream," Eustace said happily as he continued to stare at the fishing rod on screen.
"BOW-WOW," Mecha-Courage said getting Eustace's attention.
"Roh-no," Scooby frowned with concern, at the sight of the dog robot.
Shaggy's expression stiffened with a mix of uneasiness, "Like, not that robo dude again."
"Go away," Eustace demanded angrily.
But his annoyance changed to wonder when he saw Mecha-Courage give him the same rod he just saw on screen.
"Oh, a dream has come true. Hey, dog, you're not so bad after all," Eustace said, before laughing with glee.
"Oh, good dog Courage," Muriel said mistaking Mecha-Courage for the actual one as the robot jumped onto her lap.
"Uh, like, Aunt Muriel, that's not-" Shaggy tired to speak, but was interrupted when he and Scooby heard a groan of pain.
The two best friends turned and saw Courage smashed into the wall, he picked himself off the wall and gasped in horror at seeing Muriel mistake a robot for him.
Courage stared at Muriel. He felt his heart break into pieces. He thought he would be sick from what he just seen and at the thought of being replace by a robot, and what's worse, what if he was replace as Shaggy and Scooby's best friend. The thought of that left him utterly crushed and tearing up.
He had to get out of here, Courage slowly opened headed outside, and closed the door in tears.
Deeply concerned, at their best friend's tearful reaction, Shaggy and Scooby both got up from the couch, headed to the door before closing it behind them, turned and saw Courage sitting down on the porch and crying to himself. It broke their hearts to see the sweet little dog crying his eyes out.
"Rourage?" Scooby asked, sympathetically approaching him. "Rare you alright?"
Courage stopped crying for a second, looked at his two best friends, turned his head back, staring at the farmland and uttered in an emotional voice, "Go away."
Shaggy and Scooby both came closer to the small beagle. They both hated to see him cry.
"Like, little pink dude, let us help you," Shaggy said, trying to comfort him. He was about to touch his shoulder, when Courage angrily smacked his hand off it.
"No!" Courage yelled at him, glaring with tears in his eyes. "I said, go away! Just leave me alone!"
He put his paws on his face and continued to cry. Shaggy and Scooby didn't leave, instead, the two sat next to Courage with Shaggy on left side and Scooby on the right side, with Scooby petting his back.
"Rease Rourage, Ruriel didn't mean it," Scooby insisted.
Courage looked at Scooby, and was about to reply when a familiar laughed was nearby, as Di Lung arrived.
"Give up dog, I won bet. New dog in town, he better than you, better than you in every way, better than you in every other way." Di Lung taunted Courage, while poking his nose in mockery.
"Like, hey I know you," Shaggy said, with glaring daggers upon seeing the egotistical scientist. "Like, you were the dude who turned us into flies!"
"Reah, what did you do this time!?" Scooby growled wondered with the same expression, having a feeling that Di Lung was responsible for this mess.
"I built robot, Courage. He will never beat him. No way he ever beat him, even if he's gladiator in colosseum of Rome," Di Lung declared.
Courage put his ears back and growled, he was tired of being outdone by a robot, AND he was not about let him win this bet. He jumped off the porch and disappeared for a brief second before returning with a suitcase.
"I accept you challenge," Courage accept his challenge, he was going to prove to Di Lung that he was better than any robot dog and prove that is still the best friend of Shaggy and Scooby. He set the suitcase down, and on the side was a tag for Rome.
"WHAT?!/RHAT?!" Scooby and Shaggy exclaimed in unison, as they both looked give each other a worried glance.
Shaggy, Scooby and Courage were in the famous colosseum of Rome, it was home to many gladiator battles and fights, all to gain the favor of the emperor or to entertain the masses. It was a long flight to here but they were here now.
Cheering Courage on as he was in the field dressed in armor and had a shield and giant spiked club, he was going to face Mecha-Courage in battle and fight until there is only one left standing. Shaggy and Scooby were both sitting from the spectators' seats.
"GO GET HIM LITTLE PINK DUDE!" Shaggy shouted, while Scooby was holding onto a sign that said 'GO COURAGE!' Even though they're both still worried about their best friend.
"BOW-WOW," Mecha-Courage said before speeding into the center of the arena.
Hearing this, Courage then struggled to lift this weapon and barley managed to get it over his head, but before he could attack, Mecha-Courage pulled out an even bigger spiked club.
It then proceeded to bash Courage repeatedly into the ground with a heavy blow, completely destroying his armor, shield and weapon in the process. Shaggy and Scooby both gaped in horror and flinched at that. after the final swing, Mech-Courage let the weapon stay there for a moment before pulling away.
But struggled for a brief moment as Courage turned to gum and stuck to the weapon and ground, but after another hit into the ground removed him allowing Mecha-Courage to take back his weapon.
Courage laughed as he pulled himself out of the hole and fell to the ground, his face was burning and stars were floating everywhere. In his head Courage's heart pumped hard like a machine. The little pink beagle decided to change tactics this time and go long range by using a crossbow, but it failed as the arrow harmlessly bounced off Mecha-Courage. As if to add salt to the wound, Mecha-Courage transformed into a giant bow that was capable of launching a volley of giant arrows all at once.
Shaggy and Scooby both gasped, in fear and felt waves of shock at the sight. Courage screamed when he saw this, the arrows were soon launched and he was no longer seen. But miraculously, he was not hit and just pulled to the wall, stuck in between the giant arrows, but he freed himself by melting and slipping through the tins space. unfortunately, this also meant losing his armor.
Di Lung laughed from the other side of the arena, earning a growl from Scooby. Mecha-Courage was in the center of the arena filing the nails of one of its robot hands. Courage this time decided to ram Mecha-Courage, though instead of using a horse, he was in a carriage being pulled by a green pony. Once close, he pulled out a battering ram, only to get sent flying out of the carriage once he hit Mecha-Courage.
"COURAGE!/ROURAGE!" Scooby and Shaggy screamed in agonized horror and unison.
Groaning with, Courage looked up and uttered "Oh no," he then began to scream when he saw Mecha-Courage equip a giant wheel and proceed to run over Courage a few times, Courage felt agony in his whole body. With the third time finally pulling away, with Shaggy and Scooby watching, their eyes widened with horror.
Courage laughed as he climbed out of the hole again.
He then pulled out a water gun and pulled the trigger, making some water hit Mecha-Courage which it just wiped away with a windshield wiper, it then transformed into a giant spiked fire hydrant. Turning the valve, it spewed a giant torrent of water that sent Courage into the seats next to Di Lung who laughed at Courage's torture.
"I tell you I built better dog," Di Lung taunted.
Courage just ignored him and climbed down back to the arena, "I'm not giving up."
Courage, using his remaining strength, tried to push Mecha-Courage around, but in response, Mecha-Courage arms came back out and grabbed Courage and started to stretch him to painful lengths. Fire was bursting inside of Courage, it was burning hotter and hotter, like a stove or a burning piece of wood melting from the heat.
"Like, I can't look," Shaggy said, unable to watch this anymore, as he covered his eyes.
"Rome on Rourage," Scooby begged desperately. He was praying to the highest heavens for Courage to win this and get out of this alive.
It then started to toss him onto the ground a few more times, that Courage's whole body became dizzy from the impact. He was starting to lose his focus. It then started to rub him into the ground before preparing to toss him down one more time, but then it happened. Its arms started to wobble with sparks coming from the inside of Mecha-Courage.
Soon followed by smoke coming out as well. It tried to continue to hurt Courage but started to fail. And then all of a sudden, Mecha-Courage exploded with Courage laying on the remains.
"COURAGE!/ROURAGE!" Shaggy and Scooby shouted in unison.
Alarmed, the hungry duo dashed to their best friend's side.
"NO! NO!" Di Lung shouted as he ran to the arena as well.
"Little pink dude, are you like, alright?" Shaggy asked, his voice trembling. He took him from the wreck and started to examine him, luckily, it seems that aside from some bruising, he seemed to be recovering quickly.
Shakily, Courage pushed himself to his paws. "I-I'm fine, Shaggy," he stammered.
"Stupid dog not know when to give up! You wear out Mecha-Courage battery! You no good dog!" Di Lung ranted.
"Like, Courage's a better dog besides Scooby than any other robot could be made!" Shaggy snarled at the Asian man.
"Reah, he's the bestest friend and dog we ever had," Scooby added in, with a huff.
Courage smiled weakly at Shaggy and Scooby. Courage felt so emotional, no besides Muriel one has ever gave him such happy and proud compliments in his life before. Especially Eustace who just calls him a stupid doc. But his friends...they cared so much about him no matter how much he screwed up, because they loved him as their friend.
Then horns sounded throughout the arena, turning around, we saw a man in robes standing in a booth of some sort. The man raised his fist with his thumb pointing to Di Lung, after a tense moment, he turned it down and a trap door opened underneath Di Lung which he fell in.
Courage cheered before falling down on his back in exhaustion.
"Rourage, are you okay?" Scooby barked.
"Yeah, I'm okay Scoob, just a little sore," Courage mumbled.
"Like, now that's out of the way," Shaggy gently replied before getting serious, "WHAT ON EARTH WERE YOU THINKING LITTLE PINK DUDE!? YOU COULD OF BEEN KILLED!"
Courage now felt cornered and tearing up afraid to admit it to both of his best friends sternly expecting an answer from him. He sighed before turning back to the two expecting an answer to look them in the eye before confessing.
"I'm so sorry guys," Courage apologized with tears coming out of his eyes, "I thought if you're bothered by my problems and the robot was better than me, we wouldn't be friends anymore."
"Rhat!?" Scooby gasped.
"Like, what the heck give you that idea?" Shaggy asked.
Courage took another breath in his explanation with a sad sigh. "Because, I thought you guys you might like that robot better than me."
Scooby upon hearing this along with Shaggy, softened up from him being cross with choice words for him while Shaggy shook his head understandably of what was going through Courage's mind when he did that before they both smiled and moved to sit down in front of Courage to see eye to eye with him.
"Like, no way," Shaggy comforted Courage with his hand on the pink beagle's chin to get him to look at him in the eyes.
"Rothing could ever replace you Rourage," Scooby agreed.
"Like, that robot may know everything, but there' no way it could compete with your big heart," Shaggy chimed in.
"Really, you guys mean it?" Courage asked with a sniffle from his previous crying.
"Rof course we do Rourage, no matter what you do, we'll always be best friends," Scooby confirmed.
Courage give a little small smile, before emotionally latched his arms around his friends in a warm and loving hug, the duo embraced Courage back. Courage felt relief and joy, he thought he would lose his friendship with Shaggy and Scooby. But they ensured they no matter what happens they would be best friends to the end.
Shaggy, Scooby and Courage were all back at the farmhouse resting after a long trip back, they're were watching some tv after eating some remaining dumplings, Shaggy and Scooby were both sitting on the couch, while Muriel was in her chair with Courage on her lap. Eustace was in his chair admiring his fishing rod still.
"And this program is brought to you by tekno dog. Men's mechanical best friend," the reporter announced showing a dumb looking robot dog.
"That's what we need, better than this stupid dog," Eustace grumbled.
"Like back off man, Courage is not just a dog, he's our best friend," Shaggy jumped in.
"Reah, we wouldn't trade a machine for a good friend like Rourage," Scooby concluded, smiling warmly at Courage.
"Your right boys, no machine could ever replace my Courage." Muriel said patting Courage in the head.
"You fool," Courage confirmed jokingly before laughing in Di Lung's voice.
Scooby just smiled and chuckled as well but he couldn't agree more with Muriel, nothing could ever replace Courage. "Scooby-Dooby-Doo!"
