The Sorcerer Hero: Deku

Chapter forty-two: The hunt for friends, part five

The banquet hosted at the manor in the capital city was the finest that Feudal Japan had to offer, and yet most who ate at it weren't even from Feudal Japan. Hell, at least one wasn't even from a world that even had a Japan. "So this is what it's like to eat at a Feudal Japan banquet," Spinner said as he and Dabi watched the others at their table enjoy themselves.

"I have to admit," Dabi began, some amusement in his tone, "This is pretty awesome. The world we come from is pretty modern, so this is a nice change of pace." Dabi took note of how Demon Aura was actually getting along with Toga to a degree, at last as their conversation involved how to best stab any person who would dare to cross their lords.

Dabi understood that demons from the world that Demon Aura came from more or less are incapable of getting along with humans whereas demons from the world the Supreme Beings came from can do so if they're among the more intelligent of their brood. It probably helped that Toga is FAR from a normal human girl, regardless of what world she's in.

Dabi also took note of how Shinobu, Kaede, Onsokumaru, and some of the ninja Sasukes were also at the banquet, with Shinobu and Kaede talking to two girls identified as Kagome and Sango. It was looking to Dabi that the Supreme Beings wanted all people of all of their owned worlds to get along in the name of unity. That just told Dabi that the big bosses had a LOT under their sway.

The blue flame villain, who is the public face ruler of the world he comes from, got it that the Supreme Beings were having their dining in a separate and more private area. Obviously they were gonna talk about how the big boss found in this world would join up with the others and help them with taking over worlds as they make themselves available for conquest.

As he sipped some sake, Dabi wondered what the next world that the Supreme Beings would conquer would end up being. Dabi hoped it'd be a world with some interesting drink. Sake is good, don't get Dabi wrong. But the forces of the Supreme Beings had arrived in three versions of Japan technically, so Dabi had gotten used to the taste of sake.

Ooh, a world set in the Scandinavia area of the Viking era would be totally bomb. Dabi had always wanted to try mead. They got a fill of samurai and other stuff related to them in Feudal Japan, so a swap from samurai to viking would really help to shake things up for the Supreme Beings as they all worked to conquer the worlds that make themselves available to them.

...

Warrior Takemikazuchi was greatly amused to see Momonga, Peroronchino, Ulbert, Nishikienrai, and Kurama once more.

He was updated on a number of points during their private meal, where only trusted personnel from the Great Tomb of Nazarick were allowed to attend to them. He got it that Momonga took the name of their guild, Ainz Ooal Gown, for his own name so as to spread it around to see if he could find any of their old guild mates and friends. It worked to a degree, obviously.

He also got it how Momonga, as he met up with Peroronchino, Ulbert, Nishikienrai, and Kurama, had taken over four other worlds in their inter-world travels. Warrior Takemikazuchi also learned of how the Great Tomb of Nazarick was transported to the first New World that Momonga ended up taking over, and how all of the denizens there, once NPCs, became real living beings.

"Oh! That reminds me," Warrior Takemikazuchi said, "How's Cocytus doing? If the others became real living beings, Cocytus ought to be among them!"

"Cocytus is doing fine," Ainz replied, "And I have no doubt that he will be besides himself with joy to see you, given that you're the one who created him."

"Momonga here told us of how Cocytus helped with taking over the world that our guild hall had been sent to," Nishikienrai said, "I have no doubt that Cocytus would delight to tell you of the many battles he had taken part in."

Warrior Takemikazuchi nodded once in understanding. "I'm actually itching to see Cocytus in action as he battles to help us with achieving glory on the fields of battle."

"I have no doubt that Cocytus will never fail if he knows you're watching," Ulbert remarked before taking a sip from his cup of sake.

The rest of their private meal was spent discussing what they'd do after they took over the world that Warrior Takemikazuchi was sent to. He had already agreed to join up with his old friends, there was never any convincing him against it, and with the world set in a Feudal era, there was practically no chance the other nations of the world would be able to stop them. Hell, a few nations that they were familiar with from history may not exist at this point yet.

There was also talk of importing technology from the other conquered worlds to this Feudal era world to help modernize it. The Supreme Beings were curious as to how quickly a world would grow and develop if said world got modern tech during pre-modern times. The Supreme Beings were also going to take steps to ensure this world didn't end up becoming like the one that the lot of them had originally come from.

That version of Japan was truly terrible. None of the Supreme Beings would wish that fate on any other Japan.

The conquering of the world that Warrior Takemikazuchi was sent to was a snap.

The undead forces of Nazarick carried a lot of the effort of the conquest, although fighters from the other worlds taken over by the Supreme Beings got in on the action. It was mainly Dabi and his brood from their world, but Demon Aura also had some fun here and there, showing a few times the reason why she became known as the Guillotine.

Given the time period of when in that world Ainz and his guild mates took over the world, certain countries didn't exist yet. That gave Ainz the opportunity to experiment around with how history can be shaped if one were to have access to an early enough point. It also gave Ainz and his fellows the chance to set things up to prevent certain terrible historical events.

...One could argue that their own actions in the era of Feudal Japan were worse, considering how they and their forces took over the world in that time frame.

As Ainz and his presently accounted for guild mates celebrated having taken over the world that Warrior Takemikazuchi had been sent to, Ainz checked his Portal to Nazarick spell to see if a sixth New World had been added. Sure enough, there was now a new option of what world to go to added to the bottom of the world selection list.

"It's called Nordic World," Ainz said to his friends in a private meeting in his office in the Great Tomb of Nazarick, "From what I'm feeling, we'll appear in Viking era Scandinavia."

"So it's to Vikings what the world I was sent to is to samurais," Warrior Takemikazuchi said.

Kurama had an amused smirk on his kitsune face. "...I have a feeling that not only is one of our old friends there, but also which friend it is specifically. A fellow from the subgroup of our guild's roster that I had belonged to."

"The World Heritage Lords," Ulbert said, "Ah yes, I remember. And if this new world that has made itself available to us truly is rich with Vikings and their lore and history, then I can also guess which of our old comrades is in that world."

Nishikienrai clapped his hands together. "So what are we waiting for? Let's see if one of our old friends is in this new world."

"A rest period ought to be allowed, bud," Peroronchino said, "Trust me, I wanna go just as much as you. But we just got off of taking over the world that Warrior Takemikazuchi was sent to."

"I admit that I would like to test mettle against Vikings," Warrior Takemikazuchi said, "But I do think some down time before action is necessary. Besides, Momonga suggested I go visit the Lizardman Village in the world our guild hall was sent to. Given it's the fruit of Cocytus's labors, I wanna see how the place is getting along, not to mention hearing tales of their valor in battle!"

Ainz let out an amused hum. "I bet that nothing would make Cocytus more proud than for him to regale you with tales of his victories, Warrior Takemikazuchi." The gathered Supreme Beings all had a good laugh before they went about unwinding. They needed the rest, even if it's only mental rest, before they go add a sixth New World to their list of conquests.

(Eleventh century Iceland)

The Viking band that had once been run by Askeladd had seen success after success in battle, soon taking over all of the Scandinavian area. But then again, they were given the ultimate boost in morale, a boost that all warriors would draw infinite strength from. Those warriors truly considered themselves blessed by the gods themselves.

The reason why they considered themselves blessed by the gods themselves is because one of said gods had come to them, in the flesh, and began leading them to glory after slaying Askeladd in a private one on one.

Many in the band led by Askeladd couldn't believe it at first when they heard that Askeladd had been slain in battle, but things became more clear for them once they heard that he had met his end at the hammer of Thor, God of Thunder. It was Thor who took over leading Askeladd's band, it was Thor who led them to victory after victory after victory.

And it is Thor who is going to be leading the band, which had expanded to ever greater size, numbers, and power over time, to take over all of the continent of Europe.

This evening, Thor sat in a large throne like chair at the end of a dining hall where many of his human men were partying it up, having just secured their latest claims. Thor truly was a splendid epitome of being a warrior. Large and tall, Thor had grayish skin that had cracks here and there, as well as fiery red hair that was long and straight, kept in place by his winged helm. The helm was black with golden trim, and had a red hair plume sticking out from the top. The plum was part of the helm, and not part of Thor's actual hair.

Thor wore a black metal sleeveless plate body over a long sleeved chainmail shirt that shined and was polished brilliantly, a large pair of leather gloves that reached halfway up his forearms, a pair of chain mail leggings that matched the shirt, elbow and knee guards, and a red flowing cape. Thor had a large Kite Shield leaning against the wall the immediate right (from Thor's point of view as he sat in his throne), it had a metal handle on the inner side that he grabbed while leather straps went over his forearm to help keep the shield secured to his arm.

Perhaps most impressive was Thor's war hammer, an awesome weapon that everyone in the hall felt that no-one but the God of Thunder was capable of wielding, if only due to sheer size. And yet Thor can so easily wield his war hammer, one handed no less, and swing it around to smash heads of their enemies as if they were melons.

Thor watched with amusement as his men partied in celebration of their latest victory. As Thor watched on, he was approached by a young boy of no more than twelve years of age. Fair skinned, scruffy blonde hair, he wore a tannish short sleeved long coat that ended just above his knees, a long sleeved dark shirt under the coat, similarly colored leggings, and good boots with fur guards around the shins. The boy also carried a pair of daggers, but they weren't identical.

The boy held in his hands a pitcher. "Does your tankard need a refill, Lord Thor?" the boy asked.

Thor gave an amused hum of a chuckle. "Allow me, Thorfinn." The mighty god took the pitcher from the boy, now identified as Thorfinn, and drank straight from it, emptying it. Thorfinn actually was a bit amused to see the god before him drain an entire pitcher of mead dry, it's something he's never seen a human do. It's just another sign that Thor truly is a god.

Thorfinn owed a lot to Thor; it was actually Thorfinn who killed Askeladd, although Thor had beaten the man first and allowed Thorfinn to finish the job. Askeladd had killed Thorfinn's father Thors, and ever since Thorfinn sought revenge. Using his late father's special dagger which Thorfinn still has, the boy gouged out Askeladd's throat as the man laid helpless on the floor.

Without anywhere else to go, Thorfinn remained with Askeladd's band which Thor took over. The god was now more or less Thorfinn's parent slash guardian, and Thor when he realized this was actually amused at the idea of having a young ward. Especially since said young ward had proven to be surprising skilled and strong as a warrior, despite not even having reached his thirteenth year by this point yet.

It was as Thor was amused by thoughts that he was having that one of his men came running through the dining hall and right up to him, clearly in a panic. Thor could tell that something was up, he immediately rose to his feet. "What's the situation?" Thor asked.

"There's a horde of living dead right outside of the walls around the fort here!" the man exclaimed, his words being heard and getting some of the other men to panic, "Most are around the same size as the average man here, but some are big tall skeletons in black armor!"

The description of one of the kinds of living dead outside of the fort's walls struck Thor as familiar. "Let's go see," Thor said as he collected and equipped his shield and war hammer, "Thorfinn, stick with me for safety, don't do anything unless I say so."

"Yessir," Thorfinn replied, nodding once out of a mix of obedience and respect.

Thor allowed the man who came to see him to lead the way. They left the dining hall and made their way over to the tall and thick wooden wall around the fort. Even from right outside of the dining hall, Thor and his group could hear the moaning of undead. Thor could tell that Thorfinn was a little bit freaked out, but he kept it together quite well. A boy who hasn't seen his thirteenth year, and yet he has more nerve than a lot of the other men under Thor.

By the time they reached a guard post and went up to its lookout, Thor saw that the man who led him over was refusing to go up and look over, hunching over and cowering. Even Thorfinn was looking to get at his limit. Luckily for Thor, one of the items he had in his on hand inventory at the time he logged out of YGGDRASIL for the last time was a magic ring that protects the wearer from fright and similar effects.

Thor had Thorfinn wear the ring, and instantly he calmed down and relaxed. "Stick with me," Thor said as he walked up the stairs of the guard post to get to the lookout. Thorfinn obeyed without any questions. The two ascended to the lookout, and looking over what they saw, Thor had no doubt in his mind that Thorfinn would have vomited out of sheer fright were it not for the magic ring that he had given to him.

A vast undead army. Most were simple skeletons and zombies, but Thor did spot a few Death Knights in the mix. That surprised him as Death Knights were a mid tier mob (at best) that were in YGGDRASIL. In fact, the skeletons and zombies all looked like common undead monsters that were back in that game. The guild that he had belonged to, Ainz Ooal Gown, was able to spawn them as cheap pop monsters.

"Thorfinn, go back to the dining hall," Thor said, his tone firm and serious, "There's a trap door that leads to a secret panic room, it's on the floor behind my throne. Open it without anyone seeing, go inside, secure it from within, and wait until it's safe."

"Yessir, Lord Thor," Thorfinn replied as he turned to leave, but stopped short and turned back around. "...You're going to be alright, aren't you Lord Thor?"

Thor gave an amused smirk to Thorfinn. "These undead will not be enough to shake off the buzz of drinking the mead you brought to me earlier." Thor then leapt up and flew out over the lookout and the undead horde, amazing Thorfinn as he saw the God of Thunder fly. In truth, Thor was making use of an Amulet of Flight to fly. His old guild back in YGGDRASIL had gotten a royal metric crap tonne of Amulets of Flight; Thor's friend and guild leader Momonga was embarrassed by how many he had ended up getting personally.

Thor activated a power in his war hammer to have it cast lightning magic that ended up arcing all over a lot of the undead, killing loads of them. With a swing of his war hammer itself, Thor smashed up many of the undead, killing more including a few Death Knights. Thor noted that none of the undead he was fighting was actually trying to attack him; could it be due to how Thor is a dragur, which makes him one of the undead himself?

He made a dragur character in YGGDRASIL due to his love of Vikings, their lore, their mythos, their history. He even liked the name of the game; Yggdrasil is the name of the world tree from Norse Mythology. Thor flew up and stayed flying in place, then used his war hammer's lightning magic ability again when he felt the cooldown on it had worn off. These undead were by no means any sort of threat to the dragur barbarian.

...But Thor did not like entertaining the idea of what these undead would do if they were able to get to any of his human followers, Thorfinn especially.

...

From where Ainz and his fellows were viewing things, they were seeing it as their old guild mate Thor Fjord was slaughtering the army of undead pop monsters from their guild. "Ayyup," Kurama said, his tone making it clear he wasn't the least bit surprised, "It's Thor who got sent to this world."

"Should we send an envoy to halt the undead surrounding the fort and ask for peaceful discussion?" Ulbert asked, "Thor looks as if he's fighting due to worrying about something."

"Yes, we'll send an envoy to call for a temporary halt to the fighting," Ainz replied.

"Which NPC did Thor make again?" Warrior Takemikazuchi asked, "Also, hot damn is he being hella awesome right now! My only issue with it is that I'm not fighting alongside him!"

"He made Momo of the World Heritage combat maids," Peroronchino explained, "It's the same group that Kurama's NPC combat maid Kinoko belongs to."

"That reminds me," Nishikienrai said, "Kurama, why did you make your automaton maid autistic?"

"I'm more used to working with kids on the autism spectrum than ones that aren't," Kurama replied, "Remember, my gainful employment outside of the game was me being a teacher at a special school for autistic kids."

Ainz nodded once in understanding. "Yes, having gainful employment outside of the game and being a functioning member of society was one of the requirements to be a member of the guild." Looking back ahead to where Thor was still battling the undead pop monsters from Nazarick, Ainz said, "Well, let's gather the envoy party and call for a truce."

...

Thor had torn through an estimated one-fourth of the undead horde, but there was still no end in sight. Luckily for him none of the undead had managed to bust through the wall; the only ones that were able to reach it were weak skeletons and zombies that were barely able to scratch the wood. The tall wooden wall, strong and thick, could not be felled unless at least one Death Knight were to reach it and hack at it with its sword.

Thor felt the cooldown on his war hammer's lighting power cool off again, so he raised it up to blast more undead with lightning. However, Thor stopped short when he heard a male voice call out, "Hold it! There's no more need for fighting!" Curious, Thor lowered his war hammer and looked in the direction of the call. As such, he saw it as a podium carried by Nazarick Master Guarders came right on up to him.

The presence of the Master Guarders really surprised Thor, telling him that his old guild had some way, somehow, make its way here and was looking to lay down the law, not knowing that Thor was here already. On the podium was Dabi, Spinner, and Toga, accompanied by Demon Aura as well as Inuyasha. Thor didn't recognize any of those persons, but he could tell that they were the ones that were leading the undead attack here.

Raising his war hammer to point its head at Dabi's group, Thor said, "I would be hearing whatever explanation you have for launching this attack on lands that I have clai-"

"Lord Thor?"

Thor stopped short when he heard a female voice call out, interrupting his demanding order to Dabi's group. Stepping out from behind Dabi's group was someone Thor wasn't expecting to see at all here; Narberal Gamma of the Pleiades combat maids. She's a doppelganger who's a pallet swap of the archdevil combat maid, Momo of the World Heritage combat maids, who Thor himself had created back in YGGDRASIL.

Narberal hopped off of the podium and ran right up to Thor, kneeling before him as she bowed her head. "I didn't think I would have a hand in helping the other Supreme Beings find and locate the rest of their number," Narberal said, "They are bound to be happy to see you, Lord Thor."

"...I'm guessing that by 'Supreme Beings', you mean me and my guild mates," Thor said, drawing an affirmative nod from Narberal. "These undead are theirs?" Thor asked.

"Yes, but I will leave the explaining of things to them," Narberal replied, "I cannot fathom the unending depth of their intellect. I also have no doubt I cannot fathom the unending depth of your own intellect, Lord Thor."

Thor allowed himself a chuckle. "You're generous with your praise, Narberal. Oh, given that you're here, would it be safe to assume that Momo is doing well?"

"Yes and I have no doubt she will weap with tears of joy to see you once more," Narberal replied, "But that is to be expected, as you are the Supreme Being who created her."

"Very well," Thor said, "I was going to ask that she be among the first of the denizens of Nazarick that I speak to, after I reunite with my peers."

"She would be honored to hear any word from you, Lord Thor," Narberal remarked, "But even she would not get in the way of discussions between you and the other Supreme Beings." Thor nodded in agreement and asked if it was possible to withdraw the remaining undead fodder force, as their moaning was disturbing his subordinates he had inside the fort. Narberal nodded once before she pulled back and returned to the podium being carried by Nazarick Master Guarders.

Pointing to where Thor said, Dabi said, "Lemme guess, he's one of the big bosses?"

"That is Lord Thor Fjord," Narberal said, "He's the Supreme Being who made Momo of the World Heritage combat maids."

"That's the maid who looks like you, but instead has blonde hair," Toga said, "And long pointed ears, right?" Narberal nodded in the affirmative.

"I'm surprised that the undead didn't attack you," Demon Aura remarked.

"They know better," Narberal remarked casually. Inuyasha arched a wry eyebrow at that, surprised that basic undead could know anything period.

Just how strong are these maids? For that matter, how strong are Warrior Takemikazuchi and his peers? Inuyasha knew better than to try to push things here, especially as the Shikon Jewel hadn't been fully formed yet. But he'd gladly give up on that dream if it meant making sure that all of his friends and newfound (if weird) allies got out of things here unharmed.

Within short order, Ainz and the others with him met up with Thor, they were able to have a private conversation with their old friend in a house inside of the fort where Ainz had set up all of the usual counterintelligence measures to ensure no-one can spy on their talk by any means.

Out of some degree of concern upon hearing Thor say he has some subordinates that were rattled by the undead pop monsters due to their unsettling moaning outside of the fort's walls, Ainz asked if any of said subordinates were killed. Thor confirmed that none were killed, the walls were never breached, but the men were just terrified, especially some who actually saw the undead. One man had actually vomited out of stress from the fright.

"Of course, all of the men that I have under my banner here are human," Thor remarked, "You guys have undead, as well as a good few demons, among the forces that march to war under your banner. Not to mention folks from all of the various realms you've stated that you've taken over."

"Yes, and... most of the NPCs in Nazarick are... not exactly the biggest fans of humans," Ainz said, not wanting to let Thor go into things without at least some warning.

Nodding once, Thor replied, "Yes. We of the guild had faced discrimination in the game as all of us played inhuman characters." Arching a wry eyebrow, Thor went on, "Speaking of the guild, you Momonga said that you had taken the guild's name as your own, due to wanting to spread said name around in the hopes of attracting the attention of our peers wherever they went off to."

"I plan on resuming the use of my original name once we find all of our peers," Ainz said, "Or at least as many of them as possible."

Gesturing to Thor, Nishikienrai asked, "So how did you get your men to accept things again?"

"I told them that the undead that had surrounded the fort was a greeting from old friends to me and me alone," Thor said, "So sent it to make sure my skills in battle hadn't grown rusty. The remaining undead were withdrawn after I had proven that my battle prowess is as clean and sharp as ever." With an amused chuckle, Thor said, "My men all think that I'm the actual Norse God of Thunder."

"Well you do give off the vibe," Peroronchino remarked.

Thor let off a chuckle. "So, you guys have taken over all of the worlds you have gotten access to so far, and this world that I got sent to after I logged out of YGGDRASIL for the last time is the latest in said series of worlds." Arching a wry eyebrow in amusement, Thor went on, "I've taken over most of the Scandinavian area, if not all of it, already."

"Given that you're undead due to being a dragur," Ainz went on, "You have all the time in the world to take over this world. Especially since, as a level one-hundred being from YGGDRASIL, there shouldn't be anything in this world even remotely capable of being a threat to you."

Shrugging, Thor said, "Well I wouldn't mind getting to see what a world where Norse Paganism is the dominant faith would be like."

"That's actually an interesting thing to look into," Ainz said, "We can also conquer a world set far earlier in history than Feudal Japan, so better see what a world would be like if history went down differently. We can also import technology from the other worlds we've conquered to get the tech level of this world caught up."

"Oh, this world has humans," Ulbert said, "So Momonga ought to check if his quirk related spells he gained upon going to the world Peroronchino was sent to can grant them quirks."

Thor nodded once in agreement. "Perhaps we can see the potential of my young ward Thorfinn who I had taken in after I came to this world."

END, CHAPTER FORTY-TWO

Author's notes;

This chapter sees Ainz and the other Supreme Beings meet up with Warrior Takemikazuchi and help him conquer the world that he had been sent to. After that is taken care of, Ainz contemplates the latest world that made itself available via the Portal to Nazarick spell, called Nordic World. It's the setting of the series called Vinland Saga, and it's where another of the OC Supreme Beings from my first (attempt at an) Overlord story had been sent to.

Said OC Supreme Being, a dragur barbarian named Thor Fjord, easily takes over his region and wins the hearts and allegiance of the men there as they think he's the actual Norse God of Thunder. He also takes in a preteen Thorfinn as a young ward. Ainz and the others sends a 'greeting' to get Thor to come out to play, but once he does things are pulled back and peaceful discussion between old friends is able to begin, leading to a sixth New World being conquered.

The next chapter will see another New World conquered by the Great Tomb of Nazarick. Until then, take care folks.
