Chapter 15: Trying to Fix Broken Trust.

Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha!

"She's bleeding out!" One of the nurses called out as they all started moving faster to get the bleeding to stop.

"You guys need to go wait in the waiting room, someone will come get you once she's fixed up." Another nurse told Sango, Miroku, Izayoi, Toga and Sesshomaru.

"No!" Sango screamed as she shook her head. "I won't leave, she needs me!"

Izayoi stepped up before the nurse could say anything and place a hand on her daughter's arm. "Come on, dear, you'll only be in their way." She said softly before giving Sango's arm a little tug.

Sango bowed her head towards the ground with a sigh as she let her mom pull her out of the room.

The thoughts played in Sango's mind over and over again as she sat in one of the waiting room chairs staring blankly at nothing, not seeing anything but her best friend - her sister - lying on the bed bleeding out. Her tears dried up, though, you could definitely tell that she had been crying. She couldn't feel anything, she was numb, cold - so cold.

Her mind kept switching on her, first it was Kagome bleeding out on the hospital bed, then it switched to Inuyasha and how he must be feeling right now, then Hiro and then the baby. She knew there wasn't any chance of the baby surviving especially since Kagome hemorrhaged, that typically meant a miscarriage. Her heart broke for both her brother and her sister-in-law, neither one of them deserved this. It wasn't fair.

Izayoi sat beside Sango as she rubbed the girl's back, though she knew that Sango probably wasn't even aware that she was sitting next to her at the moment - and that's okay. She needed time to process what had happened and she vowed to not leave her side until she knew her daughter would be alright. She brought up a hand to wipe a tear from her own cheek as thoughts of her son came to her mind and then of her daughter-in-law. She felt devastated for the both of them, they were both treated so poorly, and she blamed herself entirely for what was happening. If she had even an ounce of a backbone, she would've put her foot down on that stupid 'kick your kids out at fifteen to see if they can survive on their own' bullshit! If she had stopped that, none of this would even be happening! 'There's nothing I can do about it now besides be there for all of them.' She sighed sadly as she bowed her head towards the floor. 'If they let me, that is.'

After he had given the asshat receptionist a piece of his mind, Miroku turned his attention to Shippo. "What's the new information you have?"

"Boss is on his way to the courthouse to finalize the divorce. Kikyo said that Naraku disguised himself up as Boss, which I don't know how he did that, but anyway - he told me to tell you that you need to go search for Hiro at Naraku's while the house is empty." Shippo informed.

"Okay," Miroku responded with his own nod, "come with me, I need you to be on the look-out." He ordered as he turned to look at Sango, he sighed sadly as he went to sit on the other side of her before gently grabbing her arm and pulled her into his lap. She curled up against him but continued to stare blankly ahead of her as he wrapped his arms around her.

"Sango, love, I'm right here. Everything is going to be okay." Miroku murmured lovingly in her ear.

"Poor Kagome. Poor Inuyasha. They haven't done anything to anyone and yet they have to go through such a terrible loss." Sango mumbled quietly as tears started rolling down her face once more.

"I know." Miroku whispered as tears came to his own eyes, but he held them back. "I have to leave for a bit to go search Naraku's house for any sigh of Hiro.

"Can't you wait?" Sango askedd2 de with a sniffle as she looked up at Miroku.

Miroku's heart broke as he looked into Sango's tear-filled eyes. "Unfortunately, not, nobody is at the house right now, and I have to be fast in order not to be caught there snooping around."

Sango sniffled again but didn't say anything as she snuggled closer to him for a few more seconds before getting up and watching him leave the hospital. She vaguely felt her mom rubbed her back again once she sat back down.

Arriving at Kagome's parent's house after parking the car several yards away hidden in the trees out of sight, Miroku snuck around the house looking outside for any sign of Hiro. Shippo hid in the trees keeping look-out with Miroku's number already pulled up for fast access to quickly call just in case someone would come home.

Not finding any signs of Hiro outside, Miroku made his way inside - making sure to look in every nook and cranny in hopes of finding the little boy still alive. He went from the basement making his way up to the attic searching for the young boy, he opened the attic door and breathed a sigh of relief as he saw Hiro chained up to one of the poles that went from the floor to the ceiling. He was lying on the floor unconscious, rushing Miroku ran up to kneel beside him and check for his heartbeat. Breathing another sigh of relief as he found his heartbeat, though faint, and made quick work in taking the chains off of Hiro before picking up his frail body off the floor.

Once in his arms, Miroku could feel how shallow Hiro's breathing was as well as how pale his face was - he was also sweaty and really cold making his little body shake uncontrollably. Cursing under his breath he quickly made his way out the attic and out of the house before jogging towards Shippo and the car.

"Shippo, I have him, let's go!" Miroku yelled as he reached the car before gently laid Hiro in the back seat and jumping in the driver seat as Shippo slid in the passenger seat. "Actually," he said quickly changing his mind, "I need you to go find Inuyasha and tell him that we have Hiro." He told Shippo then watched as the teenager nodded before leaving the car and running towards the opposite direction from the hospital.

Once Shippo was out of sight, Miroku peeled out of the forest on his way towards the hospital. Thankfully he made it there in record time before stopping at the emergency entrance and grabbing Hiro before rushing inside screaming for a doctor. As a nurse took Hiro away from him, he looked around and saw that Sango and the others were not in the waiting room anymore and figured that they were able to go back in the room to be with Kagome again. He walked toward the receptionist, and really not wanting to be yelled at again, the receptionist just pressed the button letting him to go back.

*X*

Inuyasha, Naraku and Kikyo left the courthouse with their very own marriage license, much to Inuyasha's chagrin, as Kikyo smiled smugly knowing that she got her way in the end.

"Okay," Kikyo said as they walked towards the mall that was close to the courthouse, "daddy and I are going to the bridal boutique that's here in the mall. you go back to the house, and we'll get your tux later. I don't want any possibility of you seeing my dress." Kikyo said as she and Naraku walked into the mall and on their way to the bridal shop.

Inuyasha took this chance to run to the hospital to check on Kagome. Arriving at the hospital a short time later, he walked up to the receptionist and told the man who he was and was let back without any troubles.

Walking in the room, Inuyasha's eyes landed on three people that he was definitely not expecting to see there, and his anger grew. "What the fuck are they doing here!?" He asked talking about his parents and brother, however, just as fast as his anger grew, it went away just as fast as his eyes landed on Kagome. "You know what? I don't care, just don't try and talk to me right now." He said not knowing how long he'd have to spend time with Kagome as he watched the doctors and nurses work on her. He sat down in a spot that he wouldn't be in the way and started running his fingers through her hair.

Inuyasha noticed that Miroku and Shippo weren't there and figured that they were still looking for Hiro and sighed hoping that they'd find the kid before it was too late. It was getting closer to the time it would start getting dark soon and he wasn't sure how long it would be before Naraku and Kikyo would be on their way home.

"Kagome," Inuyasha whispered as he felt a lump grow in his throat and tears threaten to leave his eyes, "Kagome, I'm so sorry, I never intended for any of this to happen. Please wake up, I love you baby girl."

Izayoi watched with tears flowing down her face as she witnessed her son's heart breaking over his true love. She felt as Toga's arm wrap around her shoulders and looked up at him before gasping when she saw him looking at Inuyasha and Kagome with wetness in his eyes. It was very rare that Toga was moved enough to shed tears. She sniffled as she wrapped her arm around his waist before looking back towards Inuyasha and Kagome.

The doctor was about to leave, however, Inuyasha stood up to get his attention before he could. "How bad is it, doc?"

"She suffered great abdominal injury causing a miscarriage, and since demon pregnancies progress quickly, the baby was already about the size of a sweet potato. The bullet entered at just the right, or wrong angle in this case, spot causing the bullet to go right through the fetus damaging her uterus beyond repair. Unfortunately we were unable to repair her uterus, so we had to give her a partial hysterectomy, she's able to keep her eggs. She also received several hits to the face breaking her cheekbone as well as her eye socket, they'll heal on their own without surgery. The bend of her wrists had to have stitches from the metal of the handcuffs digging into them, the left one she had to have ten stitches while the right one had to have twelve. Her arms and shoulders are severely strained and will need about a month or so to completely heal. That is the end of her injury report, I am very sorry for your loss." The doctor informed before bowing and exiting the room.

Inuyasha felt like someone had punched the air out of his lungs as he watched the doctor leave. 'They severely hurt my wife, they stole Hiro, killed our baby and made it to where we can't have another chance to have a baby.' "They're fucking dead!" Inuyasha roared as he swung his fist, punching a hole in the wall with a ferocious growl. "Damn it!" He snarled before falling to his knees, his shoulders shaking as sobs overtook his body.

Sango and Izayoi ran to his side, each on either side of him, before wrapping their arms around him and whispered their condolences in his ears.

A few minutes later, Inuyasha sniffled as he wiped his tears from his eyes before gently shrugging his sister and mother off him. "I have to get back before Kikyo and Naraku get back home." He announced before he stood up and leaned down to kiss Kagome's temple before turning around and walking towards the exit.

"Son," Toga called out while taking a step forward, "can we talk before you leave?"

Inuyasha sighed, he really wasn't in the mood to have this conversation right now but knew that if he didn't do it now then he might never have a chance to. "What?"

"I want to explain why I kicked you out when you turned fifteen." Toga started.

"I don't want to talk about this." Inuyasha growled as he turned away to walk out of the room.

"Well, then just listen," Toga suggested as he gripped Inuyasha's shoulder and turned him back around, "and I'll do the talking."

Inuyasha sighed and crossed his arms but stayed to listen to what his dad had to say.

"The night I kicked you out, it wasn't out of malicious intent." Toga said sending a look towards Inuyasha when he scoffed and rolled his eyes. "From generation to generation on my side of the family sends their fifteen-year-olds out into the world, seemingly turning their backs on them - but not everything is as it seems."

"What are you talking about?" Inuyasha growled frustrated as he unfolded his arms and placed them back at his sides as his hands balled up into fists. "What it seems is what really happened, and what really happened is that you threw me on my ass for no fucking reason! It's your fucking fault Kagome almost died! It's your fucking fault that Hiro is missing! And it's your fucking fault that your grandchild, my baby, is de-" he got chocked up as more tears gathered in his eyes.

Toga flinched, he felt really bad for what happened, and he took the full blame for himself. If he would've known all this would happen, he'd never have kicked Inuyasha out. However, he needed for his son to see it from his point of view. "There is a reason though, son."

"Please, enlighten me then!" Inuyasha growled losing his temper.

"It's tradition that on the fifteenth birthday you must go and try to survive and thrive on your own, the family has to completely cut you off. That means no communication, advice, help or any money given to the one that's on the journey to become a man or woman." Toga explained hoping that Inuyasha would understand and forgive him for doing that to him.

Inuyasha thought about it as he remembered the night that Sesshomaru had left. He never knew why but what he did know was that when Sesshomaru finally came back about five years later, he was different. He was much colder than what he was when he left, it was like he put a barrier up around his heart and never took it down again. Now that he thought about it, he did the same thing as Sesshomaru - he has a barrier around his heart too and he didn't know how to take it down.

"Why didn't you tell me why you were kicking me out?" Inuyasha asked.

"It's part of the test of becoming an adult on your own, it is supposed to be kept a secret until the test is either passed or horribly failed." Toga answered.

Inuyasha huffed out a scoff as he looked down at the floor. "You have no idea what Sango and I have been through, you don't know how many times we could have died because your little test and secret." He spat out.

Toga flinched again at how harsh Inuyasha's voice was but before he could apologize or say how proud of him he was, Inuyasha scoffed once more before walking back to Kagome's bed giving her a quick kiss to the temple before walking out of the door without another word.

Toga sat down in a chair as if the weight of the world was heavy on his shoulders, he feared he may never get his son back.

*X*

An hour and a half later, Miroku walked through the door of Kagome's room heaving out a sigh and running a hand through his hair before he sat down in a vacant chair.

"Did you find Hiro?" Sango asked in a whisper.

Miroku looked up to look in Sango's eyes before cracking a small smile, Sango could see how tired Miroku was as she stared in his eyes. "I did." He answered with a nod before he sighed and looked down at the floor. "He's in rough shape though, I have no idea if he'll survive or not."

"Oh, the poor dear." Izayoi said as she placed her hand over her heart.

Sango looked at Kagome as her heart broke for both her and her son, she prayed with every ounce of her being that Kagome didn't lose another child.

"How is she?" Miroku asked as he looked at Kagome as well.

"She's doing okay now." Sango sighed sadly as tears started to run down her cheeks again. "Oh, Miroku! How is she going to cope when she finds out that her baby didn't make it and that she lost the possibility of having any more?"

"I'm not sure." Miroku admitted as he continued to look down at Kagome before looking up at Sango before adding. "But we will be there for the both of them. Should one or both of them fall, we will be there to pick them up.

Sango nodded, in agreement before looking back at Kagome. "Phantom knows about it." She whispered as she wiped her eyes.

"He was here?" Miroku asked as he looked at Sango.

"Yeah, for a little while before he had to leave before Naraku and Kikyo realized that he was gone." Sango explained as she pointed to the hole Inuyasha had left in the wall.

Miroku looked at the hole with a sad expression on his face, he didn't say anything, only nodded as he looked back at Kagome praying she woke up soon.

"I think we are going to head on home," Toga announced as he stood up, "it's getting late - we'll see you in the morning." He said before he, Izayoi and Sesshomaru left the room.

Sango sighed and curled up on the chair and closed her eyes, however, before she could fall fully asleep - Miroku's phone started to ring.

"Hello?" Miroku said after pressing the answer button and putting it on speaker.

"I watched as Boss showed back up at the house, but as I was about to walk up to him and tell him that we found Hiro, Naraku and Kikyo showed back up at the house and haven't left his side since." Shippo said in a whisper.

"Damn it!" Miroku cursed under his breath as he threw his fingers through his hair, he didn't know what to do now.

"That's not the worse part." Shippo said.

"What's the worst part?" Miroku asked between clenched teeth.

"They are getting married this Sunday, I heard Kikyo give Boss the news that the church on the other side of town has a slot available for a wedding ceremony this Sunday night, so she booked the wedding for then." Shippo informed.

"Shit!" Miroku cursed. "Okay, just stay out of sight, hopefully soon they'll leave his side long enough for you to give him the news before he says I do."

"Will do." Shippo said before hanging up.

Miroku sighed as he placed his phone on the table beside him and tried to get comfortable enough to fall asleep.

"What are we going to do?" Sango asked with worry evident in her voice.

"I-I honestly don't know." Miroku whispered as he and Sango fell in a restless sleep.

The next morning, they were awoken with Kagome's painful whimpers and they both rushed to Kagome's side as she opened her eyes.

"Oh, thank God you're finally awake." Sango breathed out a sigh of relief as she ran her fingers through her hair.

"It hurts." Kagome grunted as tears gathered in her eyes.

"I'll go get the doctor." Miroku said before leaving the room.

Soon after getting a checkup done and receiving her pain meds the doctors left leaving Kagome alone with Sango and Miroku. She looked off to the side looking out the window. "What are you doing here?" She whispered in a monotoned voice.

"What do you mean? We were worried about you; we didn't want to leave you alone until you woke up." Sango answered feeling her heart crack at the hollowness of Kagome's voice.

Kagome scoffed. "Worried? Right." She whispered she rolled her eyes. "Well, I'm awake now, so you can leave."

"What? We don't want to leave." Miroku insisted as he looked at her seriously.

"Bullshit," Kagome snapped in the same monotoned voice as she continued to look out the window, "I know you both had something to do with what happened. I saw Phantom with my own eyes being all lovey-dovey with Kikyo while demanding me to sign divorce papers, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that he never wanted me."

"You're wrong." Sango whispered as her heart shattered at the thought that Kagome thought that they were all against her.

"I know what I saw," Kagome scoffed, "how can you say that I'm wrong?"

"Naraku came to my home one night and asked my blacksmith to make him a device that would alter his appearance." A voice had announced at the door making everyone's eyes to turn to see that it was Toga who had talked. "I don't know what happened to you in that basement, but I assume that you saw my son - or someone who resembled my son?" He asked.

Kagome didn't understand why Inuyasha's parents were there, however, her irritation outweighed her curiosity. "He didn't just resemble your son, he was your son there wasn't some trick from a bracelet, and he betrayed me." She said with a scowl on her face. "He never wanted me." She looked down at her blanket as she fiddled with it, she knew she was being rude not letting them explain like her father had asked her too, but she was just too hurt - her wounds were too fresh.

Toga sighed, he knew it would have been hard to make Kagome see and that's one reason he went home last night, to find the proof of purchase. "Look, I have the receipt with Naraku's signature on it." He said as he held out the piece of paper and watched as Kagome took it.

Kagome read over the paper that stated that a bracelet with the power to change one's appearance was made to one Naraku Ito, she read further down to where the signature and gasped. It was indeed Naraku's signature, she had seen the same one millions of times before she had gotten kicked out. She grumbled as she handed the paper back, once the paper was taken from her, she crossed her arms while a pout developed on her face. She knew she was being ridiculous, but it was easier to be upset over something that she saw, but another thing to actually accept something so confusing that her mind didn't want to wrap around it.

"I know it's easier to believe what you saw instead of the unknown," Toga went on with a sigh, "however, you have to know that my son has never betrayed you and loves you with all of his heart."

She gasped as she looked up at Toga, he smiled and nodded his head.

"It's true, Kagome," Sango added as she gripped her shoulder making Kagome look at her, "my brother was head over heels for you the moment that the church door opened revealing you too him." She said with a smile.

Tears gathered in Kagome's eyes and she hiccupped as the tears escaped her eyes as deep bodied sobs overtook her making it impossible for her to talk.

Sango sighed as she gathered Kagome's trembling body within her arms and squeezed her tightly, vowing to hold her as long as she needed her too.
