Yoshino's POV
I said it once, and I'll say it again. Mio is the most OP character in Date A Live. I already knew this, but this new knowledge on the power she gave me just adds to it.
To start with, both Reiryoku and Maryoku had one origin: Mana. Used by mages like Elliot Woodman and Isaac Wescott to perform their magic, Mana is a formless energy that permeates the world. Usually, it doesn't interact with normal matter, generally staying out of the way until something forces it to act.
The Sephira Crystal of a Spirit, and the Maryoku Generator in a Realizer... Both passively collect and convert Mana into Reiryoku and Maryoku respectively.
Spirits use Reiryoku, which is the 'purer' form of converted mana, being able to clump it together to form our weapons and armor, AKA our Angels and Astral Dresses. Unfortunately, it sacrifices a lot of precision, attaining incredible power in return.
In contrast, Maryoku cannot assume a physical form without incredible compression, instead boasting finer control over the small area that it can cover. When in an area smothered by Maryoku, also known as a Territory, the Realizer can reshape the laws of physics and properties of the surrounding space to a far greater extent than Reiryoku. While Reiryoku can only vaguely move objects away and block attack, Maryoku can change practically anything, from forces to air humidity and chemicals.
However, what Mio gave me was the ability to use the absolute purest form of mana, which I decided to call 'Pure Reiryoku'. And this throws everything I said out the window!
It gives incredibly fine control over the surrounding space, surpassing Maryoku, as well as unbeatable power, surpassing Reiryoku. It basically combines all the positives of the two while removing the negatives, resulting in the god-like power that Mio has at her disposal.
This opened up a lot for me as it made Zadkiel's powers that much stronger. My control over water became enhanced to the point that I could manipulate anything made of liquid matter and even create water out of nothing, my ice became that much harder to break, and I could now turn my body into mist in an instant and make attacks harmlessly pass through me like Ace from One Piece.
My strings also became a lot sturdier, and I could form them almost instantly and from a distance. This allowed me to form a small field around myself that would make strings rise up to catch any enemies that entered it, which is useful for stopping surprise attacks.
Speaking of my strings, I no longer need to use them for Yoshinon. Reason being...
"Man, Yoshinon's really gotta thank that Mio lady!" Yoshinon says cheerily as she flies around me before striking a pose. "Behold! The world's first living puppet!"
I giggle at her antics. "Just remember to stay on my hand while we're in public."
"Yoshinon knows. Don't worry."
Thanks to Mio's Pure Reiryoku, I was finally able to make Yoshinon completely sentient. She no longer needs to stay attached to my hand, nor do I need to use strings to keep us connected. She can now fly around unprohibited as long as she stays in the same area as me. And even if she does stray too far, I can use the connection between us to instantly call her back to my side. She can also turn into her scythe form without me needing to.
She's more like a familiar than a puppet at this point.
Outside of that, I can use Pure Reiryoku to create my own Territory, this one much stronger and can even interfere with other Territories if I get close enough.
Oh yeah, did I forget to mention that? Pure Reiryoku can also be used to interfere with and deconstruct Reiryoku and Maryoku constructs, weaving through the gaps within Angels before ultimately destroying them and disrupting Territories with my own.
If all this is making me sound like I'm now OP, then trust me when I say this is still nowhere close to Mio.
Still, I feel ready to take on canon now.
Origami's POV
"Bye Origami! Take care!"
I wave goodbye to my friends as I walk back to my home.
It had been a year now since that day that became known as the Tengu Fire.
On that day, I was saved by someone who looked barely older than me. She had created a wall of ice to block a beam of light that was aimed to kill me, and even summoned a rainstorm to put out the fire.
I remembered that Dad called her a Spirit, so I asked him and Mom about it. They explained to me about the existence of Spirit, and how they were the true cause of the spacequakes. They use them to enter our world, causing destruction every time they appear. It all sounded scary at first.
But... I didn't want to believe that all Spirits were just walking forces of destruction. Okay, perhaps that Light Spirit that tried to kill me, and I'm not really sure about the Flame Spirit that started the fire, but I refuse to believe that [Hermit], the Water Spirit that saved my life, was the same as them.
My parents were a bit unsure, but they said that they were willing to give [Hermit] a chance because she saved me. They said Spirits were regarded as enemies to humanity, so it was unheard of that a Spirit would appear to protect people.
I hope I get to meet her again, so that I can thank her for saving me.
I eventually reached my home and twist the knob to open the door. "I'm home!" I announce as I enter my home...
...and then my eyes widen as I look horrified by the scene in front of me.
My mother was lying on the wall, not even breathing, with a stab wound right where her heart is, while my father's body was lying headless on the ground. They're dead. Both of them.
Not only that, there was another person in the house. She is a woman with pale blonde hair and purple eyes, wearing a revealing mech suit, which I knew is a Realizer thanks to my parents. I look at the weapon she was wielding, a yellow sword that was dripping with blood. My parents' blood. She killed them.
"Good day, Origami Tobiichi." The woman greeted casually as if she wasn't just caught murdering two people. "I certainly hope you enjoyed your day at school."
"You... you killed my parents." I manage to say.
"Ah, we were merely having an argument about your future."
"Those kinds of arguments don't result in killing people!" I shout angrily.
"They would not comply, and I did not have the time to continue arguing with them." The woman shrugged. "Now, you will be coming with me."
I glare at the woman. "Who would go with someone that just murdered their parents?!"
The woman sighs. "I suppose that's fair. Most children would run at this sight."
I was heavily considering running back out the door, but before I could even do anything, I suddenly feel a tremendous pressure, as if something was trying to crush me, focring me onto the ground.
"But I won't let you run away." I hear the woman say, and the last thing I see is her walking towards me before my vision fades to black.
Third POV
Ellen looks at the unconscious girl at her feet. This girl, Origami Tobiichi was one of three children that were apparently saved by Hermit a year ago during the Tengu Fire, and Ike wanted her to retrieve her by any means necessary.
At first, she tried the diplomatic approach, speaking to Origami's parents to try to convince them to hand her over peacefully. She told them that a Spirit had her eyes on their daughter and that they should give her to DEM for protection. Of course, Mr. and Mrs. Tobiichi knew what they were talking about, but they refused, saying that [Hermit] isn't like other Spirits and wouldn't hurt their daughter. She tried to remind them about the threat that Spirits pose to humanity, but then Mr. Tobiichi dared to say that it might be possible to make peace with certain Spirits.
Such foolish dreams were laughable, especially since it goes against Ike's own. Seeing that reasoning was no longer an option, she decided to kill them both.
It just so happened that Origami herself had returned home immediately after, and unfortunately, the girl was smart enough to not trust strangers, especially those that kill their parents. So, Ellen decided to knock her out with her Territory. Ike wants her alive after all.
Now that the girl has been acquired, they can now use her against [Hermit] next time she appears.
At least, that was the plan as Ellen takes the girl and flies off. However, she failed to notice a certain Time Spirit watching her the entire time.
Yoshino's POV
"You know, Yoshinon can never get enough of the surprised faces when people learn your real age!" Yoshinon laughs.
For context, I started getting annoyed at people treating me like a little kid by the time I turned 18. I became an adult, and yet people still treated me like a child because I was physically 13 still. Damn Spirits being unable to physically age...
To remedy this, I created an ID to show people the day I was born, as well as made up a story about why my appearance was what it was. It was basically a half-truth, saying my mother died before she could pay the doctors to cure my illness safely, so they went with a more riskier option which did work, but at the cost of my ability to physically age. It did its job, and people stopped treating me like a little kid just because I looked like one.
Still, like Yoshinon said, their reactions were pretty funny.
Anyway, I'm currently at the park overlooking the entire city. The view is quite lovely.
But, as much as I want to enjoy it, I'm getting this sinking feeling. It's as if something bad is about to happen.
It's honestly making me worry. I wonder how Origami is doing. I sure hope she's doing ok.
"My, look who it is."
A familiar voice from my left drags me out of thoughts and I turn to its owner. "Kurumi."
"Long time no see, Yoshino-san." Kurumi greets me. "It's been, what, twenty years since we've last seen each other?"
"You're the Time Spirit. Shouldn't you be the most familiar with time?" Yoshinon gives a snarky remark.
"Hello to you too, Yoshinon-san." Kurumi rolls her visible red eye. "I see that Yoshino-san has learned to make you completely sentient. That's quite the accomplishment."
"Why are you here, Kurumi?" I ask, wanting to get to the point.
Kurumi smiles. "My, you're quite demanding for a child."
I get annoyed at Kurumi calling me a child. "You know as well as I do that once someone becomes a Spirit, they can no longer physically age."
Kurumi giggles at my annoyance. "True, but even then, you're still younger than me."
"She's got a point there, partner." Yoshinon agrees with Kurumi. I merely grumble in annoyance. Even if my actual age is still younger, in terms of how long we've been Spirits, I'm still her senior by one year.
"Back to your question, I simply wanted to know how you were doing." Kurumi looks at me intently. "Even I have heard about your fight with the Mad Angel." Mad Angel? That's what they're calling Minerva now? "You have certainly improved since our fight, standing up to a AAA Spirit when you yourself are only a B. You must've trained hard the past 21 years, or maybe there's something else about you. Which is the truth, I wonder?"
The look on Kurumi's face told me that she wanted answers, and she was gonna get them by whatever means. But if she uses Yud on me, then...
"Me. Something interesting has come up." Another Kurumi suddenly appears and interrupts my thoughts.
"Oh? What interesting thing is happening?" The real Kurumi asks the clone.
"It seems that DEM is up to something. I saw Ellen Mathers fly off with an unconscious young girl."
I freeze at the news, eyes widening. No, don't tell me...
"Oh, so DEM is taking young children now? I wonder what their planning-"
"What did the young girl look like?" I ask, getting the two Kurumi's attention. "Did the young girl have white girl? What about her parent?" I barrage them with questions out of urgency, hoping that I'm wrong.
The clone looked surprised by me raising my voice. "Um, yes, the girl did have white hair. But, when I went inside to check with the parents, they were both dead. The mother was stabbed through the heart, while the father was beheaded."
And thus, my bad feeling was confirmed true.
"FUCK!" I curse loudly at the situation. Wescott, you bastard!
"I-Is something wrong?" The real Kurumi asked, startled by my sudden outburst.
I glare intensely at the two Kurumis. The clone flinches at my gaze, but the real one only looks surprised. "Wescott must've learned about how I rescued Origami during the Tengu Fire, so he sent Ellen to kidnap Origami!"
The real Kurumi frowns. "I see. That means he either wants to use her as bait to lure you to him, or... he plans to make her one of his pawns."
I clench my fist at the second scenario, my anger rising to the point I was unconsciously freezing the area around me. Like HELL I'm going to allow Wescott to control Origami! "Fine. If that's he wants, then I'll raid whatever base Origami was taken to and save her!"
"You do know that would mean taking on a bunch of DEM Wizards, right?" Kurumi points out. "Not to mention, Ellen Mathers would most certainly be there."
"I don't care!" I shout back, surprising her. "If it means fighting their strongest, then I'll do whatever it takes! I won't allow Wescott to do whatever he want with Origami!"
Kurumi looks at me curiously. "You seem quite attached to that girl. Is she really that important?"
Her question makes me calm down and think things through. Yes, Origami is very important, but Kurumi isn't aware how important she is, and telling her no would mean telling her everything about me.
But, since she was gonna use Yud on me anyway...
"Kurumi." I calmly address the Time Spirit. "Let's make a deal."
"Oh?" She looks at me with interest.
"You were planning to use your Tenth Bullet to see my memories and learn the truth about me, right?" I ask, and she slowly nods in response. "I'll let you do that now, and in return, you help me save Origami."
"Giving me what I want in exchange for my assistance?" Kurumi smirks. "Quite the bargain, Yoshino. However, whether or not I will help you depends on how satisfied I am with the information."
"That's fine. I'm confident my memories won't disappoint."
"Very well. Come to me, Zafkiel!" Kurumi changes into her Astral Dress and calls out her Angel, the large golden clock appearing behind her. "Yud." She points her pistol at the Roman Numeral for 10, and a black shadow seeps out from it and into the barrel of her pistol, forming the bullet. She then aims the pistol at me, and I nod at her to take the shot.
*BANG*
She fires the bullet at me, and I stood unflinching and let it hit me right in the forehead, the impact knocking me back, but I take a few steps back to keep my balance. I look at Kurumi and see that her eyes are currently blank, meaning she's currently processing all the information from my memories.
Eventually, she finishes the process and collapses to her knees, panting, and with a shocked look on her face. I walk up to her, and she calms down and gives me a serious expression. "You are certainly a gold mine of information, Fuyu Hana." She called me by my past name, meaning she's now aware of everything.
"So, do I have your cooperation?"
She stands up and dusts her Astral Dress. "You've given me what I needed to know and then some... including what became of Sawa." She looks at me with a smile. "Now that I know that my best friend is still out there, how can I not want to help?" I return her smile with my own.
Another Kurumi appeared before us. "Me. I went ahead and tracked down where Origami was taken in advance." She reports.
"Thank you, Me. Come on, Yoshino-san. We've got a fellow heroine to save." I nod, and the two of us follow the clone to the location.
Hang on, Origami. I will save you.
It's not even canon yet and DEM's already making bold moves!
Things are heating up as Yoshino and Kurumi team up to raid one of DEM's headquarters to save Origami!
Be prepared for some action next chapter!
... I can't believe it took me until now to realize I got Vav mixed up with Yud. I'm so sorry for this mistake.
