RonaldM40196867: Every Avatar has a companion, Aang has Appa, Korra has Naga, and Kyoshi has a fox. I haven't decided what Yue's companion should be yet, but she will get one.

Zigzagdoublezee: Yes, in this timeline where the war has only just started Jeong Jeong hasn't had any reason to betray the Fire Nation before this point, but now he has. We may be seeing more of him in the future.

As Always, Please Review!

Zhao watched his commanding officer and the Avatar who had corrupted him plummet into the village and howled with impotent rage.

"That traitor!" He screamed. "I'll kill him!"

"Sir?" One of the guards asked, nervously. "What do we do now?"

"We find them, obviously!" Zhao spat. "Send a message to the island, tell them what happened and to mobilise hunting parties."

Then he stopped. A possibility had occurred to him.

"He was the commander of this fleet, wasn't he," he said slowly.

"He was, sir."

A grim smile spread across Zhao's face.

"So if he's turned traitor, then that means command falls upon the next highest ranked officer: Me."

He turned around to address the crew.

"This changes nothing!" He said. "In fact, I'm accelerating our schedule. Your former commander is no doubt telling the Avatar all of our plans right now, which means we must act with haste, or news of our intentions will reach our target before we do. We shall leave a garrison on this island to keep it occupied, and then we shall go south."

The other water tribe was waiting for him, and with Jeong Jeong having disgraced himself, the chance for glory beyond imagination had just opened up for him. All he had to do now, was seize it with both hands.

Suddenly, Zhao felt a lot better.

"How do we know we can trust you?" Suki asked suspiciously. Yue caught the glint of something golden and heavy in her sleeve as she jabbed a finger at the Fire Nation admiral. Jeong Jeong seemed unperturbed.

"You don't have to trust me," Jeong Jeong shook his head. "All I ask in return for freeing the Avatar is passage off this island. Then you need never think about me again."

"I think we can do that," Yue nodded. "As long as you're happy going to the Southern Air Temple."

"Is that where you're headed next?" Jeong Jeong asked curiously.

"Don't tell him that!" Sokka said angrily.

"I've just ended my career on the Avatar's behalf," Jeong Jeong told him. "She saw my colleague's reaction, and he's not that good an actor. Even if I wanted to go back, I would be clapped in irons and sent back to explain myself to Ozai. I would rather not do that."

"Even so," Sokka frowned. "I don't think telling you all our secrets is a very good idea."

"Don't worry, I perfectly understand." The Admiral sighed. "Now, where's your hideout? I assume you've got one somewhere."

"No!" Suki yelped. "Don't tell him that either!"

She moved faster than Yue would have believed possible, and the golden thing in Suki's sleeve was revealed to be a fan that she levelled at the Admiral threateningly.

"No need for that. I can wait here, while you go and tell your friends what happened," Jeong Jeong said smoothly, reaching out slowly to lower the fan with one hand. "Go on."

"You go," Suki told Sokka instantly.

"What?" Sokka tried to argue. "But-"

"You know where it is?"

"I think so..."

"We've got things covered here. please go."

Sokka looked between them, and then nodded.

"I'll be back soon," he said. Then he turned and vanished.

Immediately, Suki turned to Yue.

"You're the Avatar!" She said.

Yue nodded, unsure of where this was going.

"It's an honour to meet you!" Suki said excitedly. "We've all grown up on stories about you!"

Yue blinked. "You have?"

"Well, not you," Suki clarified. "Your past lives! Avatar Kyoshi! You even dress a bit like her. I like the colour though, the white and blue suits you."

"Thank you," Yue nodded appreciatively. "Isn't this island named after her?"

"It is!" Suki said with pride. "She grew up here, but it wasn't called that then. It only gained this name after she physically ripped it off the mainland and transported it here."

Yue's eyes widened with surprise.

"The Avatar can do that?"

"Of course she can!" Suki grinned. "She- you are the only person in the world who can bend all four elements. Isn't that enough?"

"In theory, yes," Yue nodded. "In practice..."

"What?"

"In practice I couldn't bend at all when I left home," Yue confessed. "I'm better at waterbending now, but I'm still no good at any of the others."

"It'll come," Suki said reassuringly. "It always does. Kyoshi took a while to get started too. Who knows, maybe one day you'll have an order of warriors named after you too."

Yue didn't know what to make of that thought. She still didn't consider herself much of a warrior, so the thought of inspiring others to be warriors felt odd.

"Did Kyoshi?"

"Yes she did," Suki grinned. "And I should know, I lead them."

Then her face darkened.

"Why couldn't you bend?"

"I don't know," Yue said truthfully. "I never tried, I guess."

Suki didn't speak for a long while.

"Can I ask you something?" She asked.

"Go ahead."

"Your friend, Sokka," Suki said hesitantly. "Has he been... has he been fully supportive of you?"

She saw Yue looking confused at the question.

"I mean has he agreed with your choice to learn the elements, has he tried to stop you," she explained.

Yue shook her head. "Of course not!" She said. "He's been nothing but supportive."

"And what about Katara? Has he been supportive of her?"

"As far as I know," Yue nodded. "He hasn't said anything about it. Why?"

Suki nodded, and seemed to brighten up.

"Don't worry," she said. "I just needed to know."

Yue felt a strange feeling in her stomach at that. What had happened between Sokka and this woman? Then she tried to put it out of her mind. It didn't matter.

She changed the subject, and began chatting happily about her life as a Kyoshi Warrior. Yue stared, impressed, as she went on about how they worked as protectors of women in need, as well as, when the need arose, of the Avatar themselves. They had an almost religious obligation to do this.

"Hang on," Suki stopped mid-flow and held her hands up for quiet. "Can you hear that?"

Yue listened for a couple of seconds, before hearing a familiar voice.

Suki relaxed.

"It's only Sokka."

Sokka emerged into the clearing, talking over his shoulder.

"I should warn you, someone's here you might not expect," he was saying.

A moment later, Katara emerged from the undergrowth. She stopped dead at the sight of Jeong Jeong.

"You," she snarled, and a moment later she had launched a water-whip straight at him. It took all of Yue's speed and skill to stop the whip before it hit Jeong Jeong, as Sokka leapt towards her.

"No!" He said. "He's on our side! I think."

"You think?" Katara snarled. "How can you think that?"

"Because he helped me escape," Yue told her. Katara looked at her.

"Wait, really? Why?"

"I talked him round," was all Yue said.

"And that worked?"

A moment later a crashing noise was heard as Gembul crashed into the clearing, being led by Rinzen. More Kyoshi Warriors filed in around them.

"Hi Yue!" He said happily. "I'm glad you escaped!"

"I'm glad I escaped too," Yue told him. "I'm so happy to see you all!"

"What about the Fire Nation?" Katara asked.

"We got out before they could really react," Yue said.

"Won't they come looking?"

"That problem should take care of itself," Jeong Jeong told them. "They should be leaving soon, especially if we make sure to advertise the fact that we've left the island."

"What do you mean, 'we'? Katara demanded.

"I don't suppose I could come with you please?" Jeong Jeong addressed her directly. "Only as far as the Air Temple."

"Of course!" Rinzen nodded. Katara looked less sure, but looked around and saw that she was outvoted.

She nodded.

"Fine."
