Author's Note:
Hello everyone,
It's been over 10 years since I last put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) for fanfiction, but Junjou Egoist has always held a special place in my heart. Even after all this time, stories for Hiroki and Nowaki have continued to play out in my mind, and I couldn't resist the urge to attempt to write and share it with you.
This story is particularly special to me because it's my first attempt at a multi-chapter work—something I've never done before as I used to stick to one-shots. The idea for this story has been developing for a while, and I'm excited (and a little nervous) to bring it to life. I hope that if you decide to read this, you'll enjoy my interpretation of two of my favourite characters, and that it brings you as much joy as it brought me to write.
I'm still in the process of writing, so please bear with me as I continue to work on this. Thank you for giving this a chance. Happy reading!
With love, asdfghjklove
Chapter 1:
The city lights flickered in the distance as Hiroki Kamijou and Nowaki Kusama arrived at the luxurious hotel's grand entrance. The marble floors gleamed under the soft lighting, and the air was filled with the subtle scent of jasmine. Hiroki, ever the traditionalist, felt a bit overwhelmed by the opulence, his eyes widening as he took in the place's grandeur. But Nowaki's warm hand on his back grounded him, offering a sense of comfort amidst the luxury.
"Hiro-san, I hope you like it," Nowaki said shyly as they approached the reception desk.
Hiroki nodded, still processing the lavish surroundings. "I knew we were coming for the literary festival, but I didn't expect… this. I thought we'd be staying somewhere more modest nearby."
Nowaki's smile softened, his eyes filled with affection. "I planned this trip for your birthday, Hiro-san. I wanted it to be special. The festival is right here, and I thought, why not make the whole experience memorable?"
Hiroki's brows furrowed slightly as he glanced around the opulent hotel. "But this place must have cost a fortune. It feels like such a waste, especially when we could've stayed somewhere less extravagant."
Nowaki chuckled, shaking his head gently. "Hiro-san, you know I'm a doctor and you're a professor. We're two working adults with no major financial responsibilities. We don't do this often, and I wanted to treat you for your birthday, it's not a waste. Let me spoil my man a little, will you?"
Hiroki sighed, a small smile tugging at his lips despite his reservations. "I suppose you have a point, but still…"
"No buts," Nowaki interrupted, leaning in to kiss Hiroki's forehead quickly. "Just enjoy it, okay?"
Hiroki glanced at him, a mix of curiosity and affection in his gaze. "I'm sure I will, Nowaki. You always manage to surprise me."
As they checked in, the manager, a distinguished-looking man in his fifties, instantly recognised Nowaki. His eyes widened with excitement as he exclaimed, "Dr. Kusama! You're the doctor who looked after my nephew, Tatsuya. He talks about you all the time! I can't tell you how pleased I am that you're staying at our hotel."
Nowaki smiled warmly, a hint of modesty in his expression. "Thank you, Fujita-san. I'm glad I could help Tatsuya, and I assume he is doing well and still loves penguins."
At the mention of penguins, Hiroki gave Nowaki a curious look, clearly puzzled by the reference. He had no idea who Nowaki was talking about, but before he could ask, Nowaki turned to him, smiling warmly with a look that said, I'll tell you later.
The manager continued to gush, clearly thrilled. "It's an honour to have you here, Dr. Kusama. Tatsuya is doing incredibly well, and in no small part thanks to you, and yes, he still loves penguins. I'm so thankful that I get to check you and your… guest Kamijou-san in—"
Nowaki gently interrupted, his voice steady but affectionate. "Partner, Fujita-san. Hiro-san is my partner."
Hiroki's cheeks flushed a deep shade of red, and he instinctively opened his mouth to say something, but a soft, reassuring smile from Nowaki stopped him. There was something in the way Nowaki said "partner" with such pride that Hiroki didn't want to ruin the moment with Nowaki's open declaration. The warmth in Nowaki's eyes made it clear how much this acknowledgement meant to him, regardless of anyone else's opinions.
The manager caught on quickly, his own smile growing. "Silly me, of course. It's lovely to meet you, Kamijou-san. My partner will laugh at me when I share this story later. I'm useless at noticing other… couples."
Nowaki chuckled at this, his tone light-hearted as he asked, "How long have you two been together if you don't mind me asking?"
"Oh, it's been 25 years now," the manager replied, a fond look crossing his face. "And now we're the guardians of my nephew, Tatsuya. He'll be thrilled to know I saw you, Dr. Kusama, today! Once again, I can't thank you enough for what you did for him. It's truly an honour to have you here, and as a token of our appreciation, we've upgraded your room."
Nowaki's expression grew more serious as he gently shook his head. "Fujita-san, I really appreciate the gesture, but I can't accept such a gesture from a patient's family. It wouldn't be fair to the other doctors who also worked with Tatsuya."
The manager's smile didn't waver. "I completely understand, Dr Kusuma, but please don't worry. Consider it a gesture for Kamijou-san's upcoming birthday instead. I noticed the information on your booking notes. This is a personal gift from us to celebrate."
Nowaki hesitated for a moment, turning back to look at Hiroki who just shrugged, before nodding, understanding that this was the best way to handle the situation without offending the kind gesture. "Thank you, Fujita-san. We'll gratefully accept it."
As they stepped into the lift, Hiroki leaned against the cool metal wall, feeling the gentle hum of the machinery as they ascended. Nowaki stood beside him, his face contemplative. After a few moments of silence, Nowaki began to speak, his voice soft but clear.
"You know, I met Fujita-san's nephew, Tatsuya, a few months ago," Nowaki said, glancing at Hiroki. "He was involved in that horrific crash on the expressway."
Hiroki's eyes widened in surprise. "The crash that was all over the news?"
Nowaki nodded. "Yes. His parents were pronounced dead at the scene. It was one of the most challenging nights I've had as a doctor. We worked through the night to save Tatsuya, he's only six. He was so small, so fragile... but he pulled through. In the end, the worst of his injuries was a broken leg."
Hiroki listened intently, his heart aching as he imagined the ordeal. Nowaki continued, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
"During my rounds, I used to spend time with him. He had this stuffed penguin toy, and we'd talk about penguins—how they live, how they swim, and the ones at the zoo that he loved so much. It seemed to comfort him."
"You never mentioned this before," Hiroki said, his voice tinged with emotion. But then he wouldn't; Nowaki never liked to bring such challenges home with him.
"I met Fujita-san a couple of times during that period, but I never knew what happened to Tatsuya after he was transferred to another hospital for specialist physiotherapy," Nowaki admitted. "It's good to know he's doing well despite everything."
Hiroki felt a lump forming in his throat, tears threatening to spill. Not that he'd let them. Without thinking, he reached out and grabbed Nowaki's hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "I hope you know how proud I am of you, Nowaki. You are one amazing doctor."
Nowaki was taken aback by Hiroki's heartfelt words, a warmth spreading through him. He wanted to say so much more, to express his gratitude and affection at that moment, but before he could gather his thoughts, the lift beeped, signalling they had arrived at their floor.
"Thank you," Nowaki managed to say, his voice thick with unspoken emotions. He led Hiroki out of the lift and toward their room, his hand still gently holding Hiroki's.
When they stepped inside, they were greeted by a room that was nothing short of magnificent. The spacious layout, floor-to-ceiling windows offering a breathtaking view of the city, a super-king-sized bed, and glass double doors that led outside to a private hot tub on the balcony overlooking the skyline made them pause in awe. Shimmering under the moonlight, the hot tub added an element of intimacy and luxury that left both momentarily speechless.
For a moment, the weight of their conversation hung in the air, but as they took in the beauty around them, a sense of calm and connection settled over them, making the night feel even more special.
Hiroki dropped his travel bag on the side, taking in the elegant décor and the incredible view. "Nowaki… this is too much," he said, though his voice lacked its usual edge.
"It is a lot, isn't it? But nothing's too much for you, Hiro-san," Nowaki replied, his voice soft and affectionate. He moved to the table where a chilled bottle of champagne rested beside a bowl of fresh strawberries. "I wanted this trip to be special."
Hiroki's expression softened as he watched Nowaki pop the cork and pour them each a glass. "Thank you, it already is," he admitted, taking the glass Nowaki offered him.
As they sipped their champagne and admired the view, Nowaki's gaze shifted to the hot tub outside. "Hiro-san," he began with a playful smile, "how about we take a dip in the hot tub?"
Hiroki frowned slightly, a touch of practicality entering his thoughts. "We didn't pack any swimwear, Nowaki."
Nowaki's smile grew wider, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "It's just the two of us, Hiro-san. And it's a private hot tub, not overlooked by anyone. We don't need swimwear."
Hiroki hesitated, clearly torn between his usual sense of propriety and the allure of the moment. "I don't know… it seems a bit… improper."
Nowaki chuckled softly, stepping closer to Hiroki and placing his bag next to Hiroki's. "It's your birthday, Hiro-san. And on your birthday, rules don't count. You can do whatever you want."
Before Hiroki could protest further, Nowaki began to strip off his clothes, his movements slow and deliberate. Hiroki couldn't help but watch, his eyes tracing the lines of Nowaki's body as each piece of clothing fell away. There was something utterly captivating about the way Nowaki moved, his confidence and the sheer beauty of his physique drawing Hiroki in.
As Nowaki stood there, completely bare, he extended a hand toward Hiroki, his smile warm and encouraging. "Come on, Hiro-san. Let's make this a night to remember."
Hiroki stared at Nowaki for a long moment, his resistance crumbling in the face of Nowaki's gentle persuasion. With a small sigh, he downed the rest of his champagne, the liquid courage helping to dissolve the last of his reservations. He refilled his glass and took another long sip before finally starting to undress.
Nowaki watched him with an appreciative gaze, his heart swelling with affection. When Hiroki was finally undressed, Nowaki took his hand, their fingers interlocking naturally.
"Ready?" Nowaki asked softly, picking up the champagne bottle and his glass.
Hiroki nodded, his nerves giving way to a sense of excitement as he followed Nowaki's lead, grabbing the two bathrobes off the bed as he went. Together, they walked hand in hand, through the glass doors, across the small patio with a table and two chairs, to the edge of the hot tub. The warmth enveloped them as they climbed in, turning the bubbles on in the process. The city below sparkled like a sea of stars, the perfect backdrop for their quiet moment together.
Hiroki leaned against Nowaki, the familiar strength of his partner grounding him in the moment. "The view is incredible," Hiroki murmured, his eyes sweeping over the glittering cityscape. "It's like we're on top of the world."
Nowaki smiled, taking in the sight alongside Hiroki. "It's incredible. The city looks almost magical from up here."
Hiroki nodded, feeling a rare sense of contentment wash over him. They fell into a comfortable silence, sipping their champagne—the cool, bubbly liquid a delightful contrast to the warmth of the hot tub. The night was perfect, a serene moment just for the two of them, wrapped in each other's presence.
After a while, Nowaki broke the silence with a soft chuckle. "Hiro-san, do you want more strawberries? It would be a shame for them to go to waste."
Hiroki glanced at the plate of remaining strawberries, which he could see through the glass door into their room, and then back at Nowaki. "I suppose one or two more wouldn't hurt," he agreed.
Nowaki smiled and reluctantly pulled away, wading out of the hot tub to retrieve the strawberries. Hiroki watched him, not being able to resist watching his naked form emerge from the water without being caught. A small smile tugged at his lips.
Nowaki returned with the strawberries and sat beside him, holding one up to Hiroki's lips. Hiroki frowned slightly. "I can feed myself, you know," he started to say, but the pleading sparkle in Nowaki's eyes melted his resolve. He sighed, giving in. "Fine, just this once."
Nowaki grinned and gently fed him the strawberry, the sweet flavour mingling perfectly with the lingering taste of champagne. They finished the strawberries together, savouring each bite, and slowly emptied the rest of the champagne bottle.
As Nowaki looked at Hiroki, he noticed a small remnant of a strawberry on the side of his mouth and a bit of juice trailing down his chin. With a gentle hand, he cupped Hiroki's face, rubbing his thumb over his chin, rubbing away the juice. "Hiro-san, you have some strawberry on your…" His voice was low, almost a whisper, as he leaned in, pressing his lips to Hiroki's.
Hiroki responded immediately, parting his lips and inviting Nowaki into a deep, intimate kiss. Nowaki was momentarily surprised by Hiroki's responsiveness; it wasn't like him to be so open so quickly. Then again, they had shared a bottle of champagne, and the night had a certain magic to it. The kiss deepened as they explored each other's mouths, bodies pressing closer together, their breathing growing more intense.
They parted slowly, their eyes locked in a heated gaze before they leaned in again, this time with a kiss that was longer, deeper, and filled with an undeniable hunger. Hiroki's hands began to explore Nowaki's lean physique with newfound intensity, his fingers tracing the defined contours of Nowaki's arms and waist, before moving up to his back. As his hands slid over the smooth skin, Hiroki traced soft lines along Nowaki's back, feeling the muscles tense and relax under his touch.
Nowaki, lost in the moment, let his own hands wander. They reached Hiroki's chestnut hair, fingers tangling in the soft strands as he gently tugged, deepening the kiss further. The sensation of Nowaki's hands in his hair sent a shiver down Hiroki's spine, adding to the growing heat between them.
Reluctantly breaking the kiss, Nowaki didn't pull away completely. Instead, he began to press soft kisses along Hiroki's jawline, working his way up to his ear. When he reached Hiroki's earlobe, he teasingly flicked his tongue over it, eliciting a sharp intake of breath from Hiroki. The sensation was electric, making Hiroki's breathing intensify as he felt a wave of desire crash over him.
Hiroki rested his head on Nowaki's broad shoulder, his heart racing as he pressed his body closer to Nowaki's. The warmth from the hot tub and the heat building between them were almost overwhelming. He wanted Nowaki now, and he could see the same desire reflected in Nowaki.
"Nowaki, I'm cold," Hiroki whispered, his voice a mix of want and need, though it was a lie. The truth was, despite the warmth surrounding them, Hiroki was burning with a desire that only Nowaki could satisfy.
Nowaki's eyes darkened with desire as he nodded, understanding the unspoken invitation. "I know, Hiro-san," he replied, his voice thick with anticipation.
They rose from the hot tub together, water dripping from their bodies as they returned to the suite, the night still full of possibilities.
They climbed out of the hot tub, turning it off in the process. Hiroki led Nowaki to the bed, pulling him down with him as they wrapped themselves in the plush blankets. Their bodies pressed together, the warmth quickly returning as they kissed, their touches growing more urgent.
In the quiet of their secluded room, with the city lights twinkling outside, they made love, every movement a reflection of their deep connection. The luxury surrounding them faded into the background as they focused solely on each other, celebrating not just Hiroki's birthday, but the love that had brought them together.
Author's Note:
And that's a wrap for this chapter! I've been itching to write Hiroki and Nowaki away from their usual surroundings, which is why I was so excited to set this story during a special trip. It ended up being more fancy than I initially planned, but I thought, 'Why not?', let's roll with it. I hope you enjoyed it. I want to think Nowaki wished to book the hot tub room but thought Hiroki would complain too much about wasting money, another of his Hiro-san fantasies (the hot tub, not the complaining). I'm fully aware Hiroki's birthday is at the end of November, so let's agree that the hot tub was very heated - people go in hot tubs in ski resorts so this is still viable.
I know some of you might be wondering about the lack of a lemon scene, but don't worry—there might be one in a future chapter.
There's definitely more of my favourite couple to follow, and I can't wait to share it with you. If you enjoyed this chapter, please consider leaving a review. All constructive criticism is welcome and appreciated. Thanks for reading, and I'll see you in the next chapter!
Much love,
