Ami did like butterfly hair clips. Butterfly hair clips had often been made from metal or plastic and came to look like butterflies. Colors among them included red, orange, blue, yellow, green, purple, pink, brown, black, and white, but Ami's favorite butterfly hair clips were blue butterfly hair clips. Blue did happen to be a color she loved so she preferred those to the other colors the butterfly hair clips came in. Saeko ended up buying some for her five-year-old daughter after she came across them in a store at the mall she was shopping at and thought they would look adorable in her little girl's hair.
"Ami," Saeko announced when she got home after spending the day shopping. "I bought you a gift!"
Ami burst with excitement. "What is it, Mommy?" she asked.
"Something that will look cute on you!" she answered pulling out a plastic bag full of butterfly hair clips "Take a look!"
Ami opened the plastic bag anticipating to see what the gift was. "Oh!" Ami burst out as she pulled out the butterfly hair clips from the package and touched them. "They are so pretty!"
"I believed you would think so," Saeko commented as she caressed her daughter's blue hair. "You come to use them to keep your bangs out of your face or decorate your hair with them. I do think that the blue butterfly hair clips would look the best on you. What do you think?"
Ami held up a blue butterfly hair clip in her hand. "I think so too, Mommy!" she agreed. "What do you think Daddy will think?"
"What do you think Daddy will think what?" her father asked as he entered the living room.
"I bought her butterfly hair clips," Saeko answered.
"Do you think the blue ones are the best ones," Ami asked, "too, Daddy, just like Mommy and I do?"
Her father appeared to have a thoughtful look on his face. He came to take one and put it in his daughter's hair. "I think it suits you," he agreed, "just like Mommy thinks too." His words brought out a sigh of relief from Saeko as they rarely agreed about anything these days, but he came to see they should not let their martial problems hurt their daughter, so they pretended that everything was good between them for Ami's sake even though it was getting harder to do so as Ami got older. Ami's happiness came to be important to them and they did not want to make their daughter stuck in the middle of their problems as good parents would do if they could help it.
Ami loved the blue butterfly hair clips her mother had bought her. Every day after she brushed her hair growing up she would put them in her hair. She came to admire how sparkly they were. Ami did like to see them sparkle in her hair. However, she ended up not wearing them on a daily basis as she grew older. In fact, it shocked her friends when they caught her wearing some of them in her blue hair.
"Ami-chan," Makoto commented after seeing them in her hair, "you are wearing blue butterfly hair clips in your hair today!"
"Bright blue ones too!" Minako agreed.
"They come to look cute on you though," Rei blurt out.
"They do!" Usagi confirmed.
"Thank you," Ami said blushing. "Mom thought so too."
