"Ha, haa." He panted hard, as his body felt unnaturally hot and the clean clothes he just changed into were soaked through with sweat. But he felt a wave of triumph rush through his body alongside a current of prana via the glowing turquoise lines that appeared on his skin. As though shedding a weight that hung heavily on not only his body but also his soul he stood up and on unsteady feet and walked towards the formal craft circle engraved on the floor of his workshop. Not knowing why but expecting it to have been carved by his father at some point, yet now covered up in years of disuse.
Moving the boxes that covered the circle away, he couldn't help but feel excited at the thoughts of summoning Saber once again. As while he has come to love every girl he has grown close to during the war be it Rin, Sakura, Illya and even Rider he has to admit that Saber holds a special place in his heart. It may be due to the influence that Avalon has had in his very being but it feels as though being with her completes him, he is her sheath and she his sword two beings that fit together absolutely.
Having finished clearing away the debris near where the circle lay he admired the craft carved directly into the concrete of the floor. Wondering how he never noticed it before, chalking it up to just being covered for too long and more items being added to his makeshift workshop over the years.
While he never learnt the true ritual to summon a servant, making a mental note to ask Rin about it at some point. He knew it was not completely necessary seeing as how he accidentally summoned Saber so many times, with the greater grail up in Mount Enzou doing most of the heavy lifting. Along with the most basic requirements being possessing command spells and the other to have a wish.
That wish was what he strongly held onto as he knelt on one knee in front of the intricate formal craft circle in front of him. His body had begun to cool down after the activation of his circuits once again heating up as he chanted.
"Trace on."
The flash of energy running through his 27 magical circuits, while still sore, flowed comfortably as he expelled the prana accumulated in his body into the circle as though reinforcing it. While his capacity may still be nothing when compared to a magus such as Rin, hopefully his effort would be able to better supply Saber with energy when she was summoned.
Slowly the circle on the floor began to glow with a bright light, and Shirou knew it was nearly time. Focusing within himself he looked for the artefact he knew rested within his soul in its conceptual form Avalon: The Everdistant Utopia an item so integral to his being that it has existed within him longer then he had even been alive. The item that links him with Saber, acting as the catalyst for her summons.
As the light continued to brighten he wished within his mind, one of hope, one of peace, one where everyone he had come to love is alright, an everdistant dream so much like the noble phantasm within him. With a final flash in the darkened shed he heard.
"I servant Saber has answered your call. I ask of you, are you my master?"
There she stood in her cold hard amour looking down imperiously upon the boy in all her beauty. While his heart clenched at the distant look in her eyes he couldn't help but let a wistful smile cross his lips as he stood and replied. "Yes, yes I am."
Having retreated back to the house, Saber sat in her blue dress as he prepared tea. Having not thought to prepare her any more modern clothes despite knowing her unique disposition amongst servants. Leaving the leaves to stew he prepared two cups and moved towards the table, sitting down opposite the servant. Neither seemed eager to speak as they sat in relatively relaxed silence and he finally poured tea for the two of them.
Waiting for her to finish her sip he started talking. "So Saber I am Shirou Emiya." At the mention of his name he noticed a slight tension in her grip but continued on. "I have something to tell you about the holy grail, it can't grant your wish."
Not noticing the swordswomans mounting anger he carried on trying to explain, but before he could get far into the tale he was interrupted by the sound of shattering pottery. Looking down he noticed the remnants of the mug that Saber had been drinking from fell to the table with what little liquid remaining ran down her hand.
With a trembling hand, the servant of the sword proclaimed with cool anger reminding him so much of her altered form. "You Emiya's, you lying curs." Before he could react the sword of promised victory cloaked in invisible air struck out moving too fast for him to react, bisecting him from collar to hip in a heartbeat.
While such a wound was generally fatal for anyone his new connection to Saber despite this sudden betrayal did allow Avalon to once again function at full capacity. Feeling his lifeblood flow out soaking into the woven floor mats, he felt his wounds knit together in a swirling ripple of gore and steel. He could only look upwards staring at her, the regal facade of the king once again highlighting that no matter how twisted Saber was under the control of Sakura that was still a part of her, the king who could not be crossed who would do anything to achieve her goal and in this instant he crossed that line.
In cold regard she watched him displaying no emotion on her stone like face despite the strange appearance he now assumed. Shifting her blade to his neck when seeing he was somehow healing from her previous blow, striking down, when in his final moments she saw not anger or hatred but a strange emotion she could not place but also a brightly burning determination even as he was fatally struck down.
Awaking with a start he could not help but feel his neck, thinking about Sabers rather extreme actions. "Ahh, the fourth war must still be fresh in her mind." Thinking about some of the moments of the dream cycle he witnessed at some point in his loops. To her last moments in which her dreams were crushed and he himself was born.
With an exasperated sigh he thought. 'Old man you've really left me a lot of issues haven't you.' At the call of senpai coming from behind him he was once again ready for the new day and to face the war anew.
