"So honey, what made you decide to bring Foccai into the family? Can't say anyone was expecting him."
Now that the Taki family was back from the Cerulean Gym, it seemed that Kai decided to ask questions, and Izumi... uh, certainly responded.

"He appeared to be a good starter Pokemon for Hogoki, you see, and I believe he should begin somewhat early as a trainer."
Kai nearly spat out his coffee then. "Somewhat early is nine years old, not six... What's the rush?"

"If he has any hope of becoming a gym leader of the city, he'll need to start early."
"...But he hasn't even said he wants to be a trainer, much less a gym leader–"
"Which is why he needs to start early, so a Taki can become a gym leader again."
Kai just kinda stared at Izumi's calm face with one of bewilderment. "Why does a Taki need to-"
"It's an unbroken legacy that a Taki has power in Cerulean, and I've lost both my status as a gym leader and my status as a Liberation commander. Therefore, I find it necessary that he become both in my stead someday."
"He's six, honey... Why don't we let him enjoy life a little longer at least?"
"He'll have to undergo intensive training."
"Exactly!"
"And you'd like it to be delayed."
"Yes, our son deserves to enjoy his childhood."
"...I suppose he does, but that may have to be cut short."
Kai sighed. "Can I at least let it end with a bang? Give him a tour of Kanto or something?"

"I suppose that would be a decent compromise."
Kai began muttering. "The compromise would be to let him choose and start the training at eight..."
"Did you say something, dear?"
"Nope, nothing at all!"

With that, Kai packed up for a day's trip, got Hogoki and Foccai in the car, kept the windows up so Foccai wouldn't hop out from seeing anything exciting, and finally drove to Saffron City. And when they arrived, they went to see a certain spectacular comedian's latest show at the Mimic House.

As they watched the Ditto transform into whatever best suited the role, Hogoki had a different sort of interested look from his father and Pokemon.

"...Hey, that purple thing on the stage looks kinda lost, doesn't it?"
"What do you mean? That Ditto looks like it's having a good time to me."
"I dunno, just looks kinda lost, like when you don't know where ya are."
"Really? ...Huh."
"Guess we'll be friends whenever we're both lost!"

"Hey, don't forget me now, boy!"

Seems like they had a good time.

When the show was over, they quickly got in the car again.

"All right, next up is Celadon City, boys..."
"...Aren't you going the wrong way, dad?"
"Nope, I've got the map to keep me on the right path this time!"
"Still doesn't seem like the right way..."
"Ah, well, we'll see soon enough."

Turns out they went the wrong way, so it took hours for them to get back on track. But when they arrived, they went straight to a certain place that might be familiar to some readers.

A large lobby with a wide front desk, two far-reaching halls to the sides of it. Greenery in pots lining the walls, children running about — this was the Celadon Orphanage, and this was where Kai was taking Hogoki and Foccai to visit.

Kai just kind of walked over to the receptionist and whispered to her. "Hey, do you mind giving my son a tour of this place? I'd like him to see how things work here, give him an appreciation of the place just in case."
And the receptionist nodded. "A new arrival, then? We normally have one of the orphanage's children giving tours here, but she hasn't been feeling well, so I'll be the guide today. If you'd like to go down this hall..." So the receptionist pointed down one of the halls and went that way, but... uh...

"Alright, Hogoki, let's explore this place- W-Wait, that's the other hall! Foccai, tell him he's going the wrong way...!" Foccai was busy just looking very confused in Hogoki's arms as expected.
"...He's too far now. That goes to the children's bedrooms."
Kai sighed. "Better follow him, maybe catch up when he stops..."
So they tried going in his general direction, not that they knew his path beyond that hall.
Meanwhile with Hogoki... Well, it was a fun tour so far, although he had no idea where he was. Come to think of it, he didn't see anyone guiding him now, either. ...Wait, was he lost again? Great... He and Foccai had a lot of walking to do, but then again, he was fine with that. The doors he was surrounded by had numbers in front, so that meant people were in there... so he could just open them until someone would help him get back where he needed to be!
Let's see, door number one, 218...

"Oi, knock at least, would ya?!"
...was immediately closed.
Number 219... was empty. Darn it.

220, 221, and 222 led to someone ambushing him, a giant anvil crashing down in front of him, and more nothing, of course.

And then he opened the door to room 223, and what he saw shocked him.

A blonde girl was sitting curled up on the floor, nearly unmoving, not even responding to his entrance. Her presence gave off a feeling that made him sick to his stomach as he stared at her in worry. ...What was he supposed to do right now?

...Wait, she was starting to look up, time to run out of sight back out the door! Now he'd just rest against the wall...
Probably a good thing she hadn't seen him, actually. She probably wanted to be alone. Back to looking for someone... although that was still a worrying sight for him.

"Hogoki! What in the world brought ya this far, kid?!"
...Well, now he didn't have to look for anyone. Dad was here.

"...I just kinda got here!"
"This is the hall where kids sleep, though! Are you looking to live here or something?"

"...Wha-? I have you and Mom, why would I live here?"
Kai just kinda sheepishly laughed. "I guess I was just curious, but that doesn't mean ya can't live here, you know-"
"I love this place, but I wanna live at home!"

Kai had an odd look on his face before he just kinda gulped and nodded. "...Alright then, guess it's decided. Hope you don't need to change your mind."

"...Whaddya mean?"
"Ah, nothing, just talking to myself! Let's get home before it gets dark."
"Okay!"
With that, they returned to Cerulean in short notice.
