Chapter 2: Lost & Found

Bella hunted without Edward. She needed to get away and deal with her own grief. Every now and then she felt Charlie's spirit, but it wasn't enough to ease her hunger. The hunger felt painful. There was a burning sensation in her throat that she never felt before. Sure when she first turned into a vampire, she felt the need to feed, but nothing like this. Every time Bella got close to hurting a human, there was a voice that told her to stop. Finally, she reached another human being. The human was another homeless man and didn't seem to be paying attention to his surroundings. Bella grabbed the homeless man and pinned him against the wall. The man coughed and said,

"So you've come to kill me?"

Bella looked at him, confused. "What do you mean?"

"I've been waiting for death for quite a long time now." The man replied. "Are you going to kill me?"

Bella was confused. She never had this happen before. Most of the time people begged for their lives or that voice stopped her. This time there was silence. The voice was gone. The man coughed some more and Bella felt sorry for him. She looked into the man's blue eyes. He was full of pain. Bella leaned towards his neck and bit into it, letting the venom spread. The man collapsed in pain and screamed. The venom spread through his body like wildfire. Edward finally caught up with Bella and his eyes widened in fear. She turned someone.

"Bella!" Edward shouted and grabbed her hand.

Bella looked at Edward and tears streamed down her cheeks. "I had to." She said, "He wanted to die."

"We need to get out of here!" Edward told her.

Bella shook her head. "We need to take him with us."

Edward looked around and the man continued to scream in pain. He remembered the change all too well. He knew what the man was going through. So did Bella. Edward couldn't believe that his beloved wife just turned someone. Edward lifted the man up and held up in his arms.

"We'll take him back to Carlisle." Edward said. "Help me."

Bella walked over to Edward and helped him. The married couple took the man back to their home in Forks. Once they brought the man to their home, they got him to the infirmary. The change took a day to complete. Everyone was furious. No one really talked to Bella. Alice was concerned about the old man's future. His change was permanent and at least, he had a future. Edward walked over to Bella who was on the couch. He sat down next to her and sighed heavily.

"I can't believe you changed him."

"It just happened." Bella said. "I wanted his blood, but the way he talked…He talked as if he wanted something else."

"Bella, you took his choice away." Edward told her. "He might hate you forever."

"He might not." Bella argued. "I'm going downstairs to check on him."

Bella was curious about him. She never changed someone before. She didn't mean to, it just happened. Bella watched the man on the seat of the infirmary and stayed by his side. The hunger she felt earlier had dissipated. Now, she was focused on something else. The man opened his new vampire eyes and looked around. He saw Bella and asked,

"Where am I?"

"What's your name?" Bella asked, ignoring his question.

"Isaac," he replied. "Where am I?"

"Isaac, you're safe." Bella told him. "I need to tell you what happened."

"What happened to me?" Isaac asked. "I feel completely different."

"You changed." Bella explained. "I changed you into a vampire."

His red eyes widened. "What do you mean I'm a vampire?"

"You'll never die." Bella said. "I know that's what you wanted, but I wanted to give you a different life."

"What did you do to me?" Isaac asked.

Bella sighed heavily. "I told you, I changed you."

"I'm so thirsty." Isaac said and grabbed his throat. He sat up. "What do you have to eat?"

"You can't eat food anymore Isaac," Bella said. "You need to hunt. I'll show you. Let's go."

She held out her hand and he took it. Isaac was still uneasy around Bella. He was still confused about what had happened to him. All he knew was that he was hungry. Bella took him to the woods and showed him how to hunt just like Edward had shown her. Isaac learned quickly. He grabbed a bear and bit deep. The bear roared in pain and dropped dead. Bella smiled at Isaac. She was proud of him. The scent of human blood filled her nostrils. There was a hiker nearby. Isaac inhaled and Bella looked at him, worried.

"Isaac, don't." Bella warned.

Isaac groaned in pain. "But it smells so good."

"I know," Bella said. "But we don't eat humans."

"I can't." Isaac said and took off.

Bella ran after him, trying to keep up. He was much faster than her. Isaac found the hiker and tackled the girl. She screamed in terror and struggled against Isaac's strength. She tried to get him off of her, but Isaac was a newborn vampire. There was no fair fight. Thankfully, Bella got to them in time and ripped Isaac off of her. The girl crawled backwards and continued to scream. Isaac ran to the girl and was in a rage. He was starving. Her blood smelled so good. Bella grabbed him by the back of his shirt and threw him to the ground.

"Isaac, stop!" Bella roared.

She looked at the frightened girl. Isaac knew what to do to make her pain go away. Something told him that he had the power to make her pain dissipate. He walked up to her and looked her in the eyes. He focused on her. The girl was screaming, hysterically. Bella watched him in fear. Isaac narrowed his eyes and said,

"You're safe. Calm down."

Her tears suddenly stopped. Her heart slowed down. Bella heard it. She watched Isaac carefully. It was like he hypnotized the girl. Was that his power? She wondered. How did he know what to do? Bella was curious as she watched. Isaac held her hand and whispered,

"You're safe now. Go home."

The girl wiped away her tears and stood up. She walked away from the two of them. Bella smiled and said, "Well, I think we found out your power."
