Chapter 9

"How are you doing?" Alex asked her sister. They were sitting inside the break room down at ARGUS. J'onn was busy trying to help get Cat Grant back to being Cat Grant, with Nia and the ARGUS medical team's help.

"How the hell did Enigma get to my boss? I mean, I saw the video, but no one saw anything?" Kara wanted to know.

"It was a parking garage. Security guy turns his head and he would have missed the abduction. The injection is what made it easier to throw her into the back of the van. The van was burned. I tracked it down only to find that NCFD had been called to douse the flames the next day. No evidence of Cat Grant's presence there would have been left behind," Alex told her.

"Why is she always so far ahead of us?" Kara asked.

"That I can't answer. My first thought would be that she has someone on the inside of somewhere, advising her on what to do and what not to do," her sister figured.

"That would explain it. Someone inside NCPD? Or maybe even ARGUS?" The blonde wondered.

"I doubt ARGUS. They're randomly drug tested once a week and the Snakebite would definitely show up. It may not be a traditional drug but it's ingredients, and their waste products, would trigger further questioning due to the mushrooms," Alex explained.

"So NCPD. We have no real in with them," Kara frowned.

"I could reach out," the redhead told her.

"You really want to do that?" Her sister gave her a look. The breakup with Maggie had really done Alex in for a while. Also, it would be weird to just reach out, especially since it was business.

"No, but I would think that she'd want to know if they have a leak," Alex admitted.

"What's up you two?" Lyla asked as she walked into the room. The two quickly floated the idea past the leader of ARGUS.

"I got a guy for that," she smirked.

"You do?" Kara wasn't sure why she was so surprised. Of course, Lyla had a guy for that. The woman was always prepared for everything.

"I'll reach out and see if we can get some traction. J'onn and Nia got Enigma out of Cat's head and we gave her the antidote for the Snakebite. She's going to be zonked out for a while, but I think it best that she doesn't wake up here," Lyla told them.

"Yeah, you're right. I'll take her home," Kara said. The blonde quickly left the room and Alex heaved a sigh.

"What's up Sentinel?" Lyla gave her a look.

"I haven't been able to talk to Kara. What is going on is, of course, way more important. Sometimes I just miss the old days," Alex said.

"Don't we all? Sometimes you know that you can't picture your life any other way but sometimes you wish you didn't know or see what you've seen. Give Kelly my best and congratulations," the leader of ARGUS gave her a wink. Alex's mouth dropped open and before she could respond, the wife of Spartan was out the door.

"How does she do that?" The redhead wondered as her phone buzzed. She quickly picked it up without looking at who it was.

"I want in," the voice was unmistakably Marie's.

"Into what?" Alex asked.

"You guys are up to something. I know you're trying to be sneaky and whatnot, but Kara isn't answering her phone. Clear sign something is up," Marie chuckled.

"You got us. Meet me at the detective agency," Alex told her.

"See you soon," Marie said before hanging up.
