Chapter 5: A Training Camp Part II

It was like I was in the film Groundhog Day starring Bill Murray. Reliving the same moment repeatedly.

As once more Professor Oak was staring down at me while I held my two Pokeballs in my hands with an innocent smile playing on my face.

It was his turn to twitch.

"This going to double your punishment you know" A look of severely on his face.

Knowing I had the perfect kryptonite for this exact scenario, "Would like to see my Magikarp first?" I asked, smile growing.

He narrowed his eyes, when I didn't flinch, he grew suspicious.

He was probably trying to figure out what the angle was.

I released Magikarp, by the intake of air I heard, I'm guess that Oak knew exactly what he why I wasn't worried about his punishment, especially with how special my Magikarp was.

"A king?" He questioned with a mutter.

"Yes, indeed. The Arc Phone pointed it out, see?"

As I held it out.

[Alert! King Gene Detected!]

[King Gene: An extremely rare genetic phenomenon that causes the Pokémon in question to be double, or in some recorded cases, triple the size of the average for their kind. The chances of a King appearing are 8,192 to 1. These Pokémon are the stuff of legends, known in ancient Sinnoh as Alphas.]

[This Magikarp is 2 times the average size of its species.]

His eyes that made been stern now sparkled with the idea of more research opportunities.

Isaac used Disable! It was super effective!

He looked back at me and started talking about what he knew about the Phenomenon.

The King gene was extremely rare as shown in the message from the Arc Phone, what the Arc didn't itinually state was that there was few recorded King Pokémon. Oak had only seen two in his lifetime, and they were a King Carnivine he found on a research trip to Sinnoh and a King Raticate in Sycamore's Lab. There were, however, myths and legends about giant Pokémon in almost every region, a lot focused in Sinnoh.

He also gave me the phone number for Sycamore's lab, he was studying the phenomenon and even though it was a new line of study, he was the one to call if there were questions about any details. Apparently his Raticate was big as a horse, he the subject in many of these studies on the King Gene. I would need to pick his brain with a series of questions; questions like were there any effects that differed from regular Pokémon training? I know that in Legends Arceus that King/Alpha Pokémon were highly aggressive and easily enraged. I would need to know if there were any bleed through effects from the game. I do not want to deal with an enraged King Gyarados all the time, and especially when he first evolves.

There was the other area of concern is that of feeding. Pokémon, especially those on trainer teams with the purpose of battling went thought a lot of food. It was one of the major costs that came with being a trainer. The food got more and more expensive as the quality went up, with some of the specialty foods costing an arm and leg. With a King Gyarados on my roster, I would certainly need to be aware of the cost and quality I would be buying. I was kind of scared to honest, from the information I found on the type, Gyarados eat a lot of food, with a King it would likely be double of not more…

"I can't say I blame you for catching this one," Oak said as he started to turn on cameras and take notes.

"Magikarp?" My little ocean king looked confused.

I kneed down, "Hey Magikarp, we're in Professor Oak's lab a couple of miles away right now."

"Magikarp!" he called as he flopped around trying to get a good look.

After a moment Magikarp turned to me and said this name. It took a minute but I got what he asked.

"Why I called you?"

"Magikarp!" he nodded.

"Well one was I wanted Professor Oak here to see how strong and skilled you were!"

At this praise he blushed…

Anime logic perhaps…?

Anyways…

"I also wanted to see if you wanted a name?"

"Magikarp?"

'Yeah, a name that will fit the future mighty Gyarados that will rule the oceans at my side!"

Magikarp stilled and then gained a sparkle in his eyes. And then started flopping around and repeatedly said his name.

"MAGIKARP!"

"I'm gonna take that a yes" I smiled.

I already had the name ready, honestly, I had the name the moment I decided to catch him.

"I name you, Poseidon! God of the seas!" I smiled as I proclaimed my future badass King Gyarados.

At this Poseidon gained stars in his eyes and really started to flop around.

I smiled this was going to be great! I might just catch the core of my team before sitting on one foot on my journey. Though I cannot see Oak allowing me to do so…

"He does seem to be a happy fellow, doesn't he?" Oak asked with a smile.

I had practically forgotten he was there, lost in the naming of my new team member.

"Yes, he is quite the jolly guy isn't he, it will make it easier to train him after all."

Oak nodded at this statement.

There was a good reason that Gyarados was called the Atrocious Pokémon. It had rightfully learned his reputation through a sea of blood and destruction. The number of trainers with a properly raised Gyarados was extremely low and were almost always kept an eye on. There were apparent horror stories of mass Magikarp evolution events that sank entire fleets of ships or razed whole coastal cities because of the new throes of evolution. The history of naval travel was filled with accounts of battles against Gyarados and the methods of countering them. A single enraged Gyarados could lay waste to a city or town if not stopped in time.

There were even harsh restrictions on training the line because of how dangerous they were. Oak was quick to say that if Poseidon kept his current disposition that shouldn't be worried about. It was regulations were really put into place to prevent trainer deaths from Gyarados evolution rages…I would need to be cared to maintain that close bond that looked to be forming between us, and hope that kept through his evolution. In any situation, I would need to have a Pokémon on hand if Poseidon went into an evolution rage.

I would also need to consider the new move pool he would have with the Dark Typing that Mega-Gyarados would gain. No one would expect Gyarados to have that type, nor the tricks I was thinking of. They wouldn't know what hit them!

Despite having the duel typing of Flying-Type there wasn't really anything on flying Gyarados out there or the moves that I knew that would have access to. It would seem that the line was seemingly water bound. Hmm, I will make use of this misconception. The idea of riding on a Super King Gyarados over the clouds was going to happen!

How to train your drago-I mean Water/Flying-Types you could say.

Back to the present.

"No more Pokémon till you go on your journey" Oak stated looking me directly in the eyes.

When I didn't immediately answer he narrowed his into slits.

"Right Isaac?"

"I'll try to pace myself"

Oak just stared me…

Throwing up his hands in a done with life manner he turned and started to take more notes about Poseidon and read the data that his devices were picking up.

I would call that a win!

[Time Skip]

Making my way to one of the corrals, it was time for a team training session!

Finding one of the larger ponds I release my two Pokémon,

"Magikarp!" Poseidon said swimming around and broke the surface to face me.

Merlin was floating slightly over the water.

"Merlin, Poseidon I wanted you two to meet each other." I said point the Pokémon out to each other.

The two Pokémon turned to look at each other for a moment and then started to communicate, seemingly through a mental link.

Hmm that was something that I would need to work together with Merlin on. It would be so cool if we could fight an entire match with speaking a single word! The sneakiness that we could pull over would be unparalleled.

"Trainer, this one wish that I to convey you his commitment to getting stronger" Merlin said with a thought.

Looking down at Poseidon, I kneeled next to him.

"Hey buddy, no worries! Soon enough you'll be a mighty Gyarados prowling the very seas!"

"Magikarp!" He wiggled happily.

He really was just a happy fish.

"Alright Team I want to go over the next couple of goals for the next year"

Poseidon just seemed to be happy to be here, while Merlin just seemed tired; but then when you sleep 18 hours a day I would too, I guess.

"One is that lets plan on both of you evolving in the next couple of months. Poseidon, you will take a while to evolve buddy" He seemed to sadden a lot at that.

"Don't worry buddy! We'll be training on using flail and splash to knock peoples block off!" At this he seemed to resort back to his happy go-lucky self.

Once again, he was just a happy fish.

Turning to Merlin.

"I think should focus more on control and endurance training, while your tutoring sessions with Ally will be more based on the new moves. You really take to learning moves really fast Merlin" I said with a pleased nod.

He really had those moves down, almost too fast when I thought about it?

"Merlin how did you pick up those new moves so fast?"

"Hm, I come from a long-distinguished line of Alakazam, my parents are powerful Pokémon that oversee a group of many powerful Psychics. My family is of the similar talents that also pick up moves quickly along certain techniques."

Hmm, if that is true, I wonder…

"What were you doing out near Pallet Town if you're basically a Abra Prince, is this enclave of Psychics near there?" I asked with a strange look.

Merlin turned away with a slight blush…

After a brief moment my eyes widened after I realized what had happened.

"You ran away from home, didn't you…"

"I set out on my own to gather my own strength and not the handouts of my parents and group!" He sputtered.

I smirked.

"I did! I didn't run away from anything or one!"

"Surrrrre, you didn't." I smirked as he took a second to collect himself.

That was the first time I've seen him have any real reaction to, well anything. It was more than slightly funny! It also answered quite a few questions about his personality, which seemed cold and aloof, which now makes sense if he's a spoiled rich kid running away from his overbearing parents.

'I heard that!" he practically snapped as his tail fluffed out.

"I apologize for my thoughts Merlin; I didn't think them through"

Even then I could see him try to get his tail in order. I had to hide another smile.

"Let's focus on the plans I have for you" I spoke aloud, moving on to the point.

"As I said earlier the focus will be on endurance and control. To do this I want you to learn the move Telekinesis. Then after learning that move, we will have you practice lifting different and heavier objects as you grow into your power. Your sessions with Ally have this also as the main goal as well. Though I do want you to learn the others move we discussed if you can."

"Very well trainer"

There was a slight huff in that thought.

I smiled as I thought about his progress, he really was putting in the work.

Like people, Pokémon learn and grow at different levels and speeds. Oak said that Merlin was a one of those Pokémon where the moves of their same typing came naturally to them. Even though some of those moves were outside of a typical Abra's ability to learn, as most of them the line didn't really start learning any of them till, they were a Kadabra. Oak was rather excited to see the progress of our training.

Smiling we got to working on making our goals a reality

[Time Skip: One Month]

The next month flew by quicker than I thought possible. The balance between training my team, the duties around Oak's Ranch, giving lectures on Pokémon to Oak and his assistants, and doing my own research; Well, was quite the challenge for sure. It's been a month and week that I've been in this world, and it hasn't lost that wonder and awe that I experience every day.

Most Pokémon in their first stages experienced the most short-time growth, Merlin was the perfect example of this line of thinking. All of agreed that Merlin was special along his line of Pokémon.

Training had been going really well, so good in fact I'm sure that Merlin might actually have magic. In the last month he has picked up Telekinesis, Sleep Talk, and Psychic. After speaking with Oak about it, it would seem that we're nearing the point of overkill in the sense that most Abra would have evolved already, wanting to hold back or not. It would seem that my Abra had a extremely strong will to hold over evolution so long. Oak had taken Merlin to be checked out in a medical checkup, which showed that he was oddly not in any pain with hold back the evolution.

Apparently to Oak this was another oddity in of itself. It wasn't a complete success, however with him struggling to learn Shadow Ball.

[Flashback]

"So, he's having quite the problem?

"Yes, Ghost-Type energy is the anti-thesis to our own power after all" Ally, Oak's Alakazam stated with a thought.

Watch as Merlin once more failed to use the move Shadow Ball. It would seem that his streak of success was broken with the move.

From what have learned Ghost-Types, and their energy are difficult to understand even for Professors like Oak; they are a special oddity out of the 18 types. The origins of Ghost were heavily debated by the scientific community. Quite a few people thought that Ghost-Types were the echoes the souls of dead people or Pokémon brought back. There however wasn't enough evidence to support that theory, let alone confirm it. There are several families and/or clans that dealt with and specialize in the mysterious Pokémon. The most known would be the residents of Lavender Town in Kanto. Lady Agatha was a current member of the Indigo Elite four and was renowned and feared for her connection and might with Ghost-Types. She was, As Oak told, a member of a prominent family that was steeped in legend and darkness, or so Oak says.

From the way he flittered around at certain parts I got the feeling there was some personal history between the two.

Going back to the issue at hand.

Merlin's problem with channeling Ghost-Type energy was not something that could be easily taught or even shown, according to Ally, that is.

"He will need much more discipline with Ghost-Type energy before he masters this move and moves like it, but when he does will come naturally" Pointed out as we both watch Merlin once more fail to get the move down.

"Also, he will evolve very soon, his will is iron and impressive for one his age but even then, the need for evolution will catch up to him soon enough."

"Is it normal for Abra's to hold off on evolving like this?"

I asked the question that has been bugging me for a while now.

"Abra often finds a personal goal and desire to achieve it before evolution, Merlin is a savant prodigy in the mastering of his energies. For him being better than most would be a mere stepping-stone."

"Wants or needs to be more for finally evolving?"

"Yes, but it's clear that he's reached the point of reeking out the shreds of strength that remains in the first form."

"Do you think that will be a problem?" I asked with a slightly worried tone.

Turning her head away from watching Merlin's training efforts.

"No, the time for evolution will be clear to him, it is simply not now." Ally thought with a firm tone.

I guess then it would just be a waiting game then.

[Flashback End]

Merlin was actually getting pretty close to learning the move after another week of practice. I could tell that this was the first time that he struggled with anything, let alone something that he prided himself on. We were sure that his evolution would happen in the next couple of weeks or even days. Then the real training could begin, as we were operating under time constraints with him only being able to train for 4 hours a day.

On the other hand, Poseidon was living his best life.

With him knowing the three moves that could be taught there wasn't a lot that could be down moves wise. Though there were several areas that we worked on. One of those was telling him about his evolution and the many things that he would learn once he did evolve. This seemed to make him extremely sad and happy at the same time, he was an odd fish at times.

[Flashback]

Standing on the shore to the biggest lake Oak had access to, looked down at my King Magikarp.

"Alright we're gonna train" Striking a pose!

"Magikarp!" He seemed to try to copy me in posing.

A happy little fish for sure!

"We're train your tackle, and flail buddy."

"Magikarp!" He shook his head down and up rapidly.

"I want you to sue fail and jump up into the air as high as you can then use tackle when get close to the ground,"

"Magikarp!" He said as he started to practice the move set.

This kind of training would have some carryover when he did evolve to a Gyarados. Quite literally using his head would help in physical attacks like Ice Fang or Crunch. Poseidon would be a huge Gyarados, his body would be large for anyone, but if I trained him use that to his advantage in a physical in moves like Thrash or Iron Head then he would be a monster that no one would face without being intimidated.

The real part of the training was strengthening the bond between. There could be arguments that all this training could occur after he evolves, and this stage is rather pointless after all. This, however, forgets that one I don't want to be eaten after he evolves… And two, Poseidon will be able to Meg-evolve and one of the prerequisites is a strong bond, so it is in the best interest to train in this way.

I have a feeling that he will especially remember this period in his life, so making the best of it now will pay huge dividends later.

From the information I've it often takes a long time for the average Magikarp to evolve unless part of mass event or through rage effects most take a couple of years before they reach that level. I was planning on having a King Gyarados before I left for my journey.

Now having one that was well trained? Probably not in the cards but that was fine because that was what the journey was for after all. Plus, the Arc Phone made training all the easier after all with all different training plans and even move descriptions with pointers and everything.

My Gyarados was gonna be badass!

[Flashback End]

The was significant progress being made on all fronts. With my chores or duties as Oak calls them, I was learning tons on how to care for many different kinds of Pokémon. The lectures that Oak would give on everything ranging from Berry nutrition to Trainer-Pokémon bonds were more than helpful.

The other big, well not secret, was the scale of how anime-like the world really was. After reading about the various histories of the different regions I knew it was going to be all sunlight and daisies. Then after my heart-to-heart with Oak on the fates of Blue and Red I could see that the rose-tinted glasses had really peeled off. I mean the anime hinted at it with things like Ash's Charmander's clear abuse or Chimchar's abandonment. Team Rocket in the Anime was a business orientated organization that stole Pokémon and was basically a joke otherwise. This, however, ignores the fact of how important a person's personal Pokémon were to them. They in most cases saw them as family, to have them taken was truly horrible.

Let alone that fact that in this world they were actual terrorists that killed, raped, stole, and destroyed in any way that they could. The accounts from the Rocket War as it was called were some of the prime examples of how evil humanity could be, this wasn't no happy anime where friendship and love could save the day, well at least for anyone but Ash that is.

Then the question would be why would anyone let their kids go off into that kind of world at the fucking age of 10? Well, that plays into the fact that those young trainers were one well prepared by their sponsors or family, most of the time. Two that the Leagues made it a priority to protect and help them grow as trainers. Now young trainer deaths still occurred but they were a rarity most of the recorded deaths were from accidents or the odd wild Pokémon attack. Even those kinds of deaths were dropping heavily in the last five years, on part of the new initiatives from the Indigo League. It was still shocking that some kids that did die each year.

This was quite the shocking revelation

The of the latest examples of this is when I learned about bounty tasks.

These were missions or tasks that the League or local town or Pokémon Center would post and then pay trainers. They could range from patrolling a route or doing construction work to extermination missions; where to would have wipe out an overgrown population; this mostly happened with Pokémon like Rattata or bug Pokémon. These could have quite the payout, especially for the better ones.

After a couple of talks Professor Oak agreed to let me go on several of these to train my Pokémon and gain some needed money, though Oak had said he would pay me for my work at the lab. I didn't want to take even more advantage of the situation than I was already doing. . After all I was gonna need to pay for all sorts of travel expenses, as well as all the food I was gonna need.

I could already feel my account running dry…

Oak, however, wanted me to stick with the local low to mild missions.

So today I signed up for a mission to chase off some wild Mankey that was harassing some people on the edges of Pallet town. They were apparently chasing and throwing things at people when they tried to use a path that would lead to Route 1. My job would be to find them and chase them off or disable them and relocate them to a wilder area of Route 1 so that they couldn't bother people.

Poseidon was thrilled about the mission, even though I doubt I was going to use him…

Merlin had seemed to be less of an aloof tsundere lately and actually was looking forward to this mission.

Frankly I think he wants to sue this to master Shadow Ball and finally get it done.

[Time Skip]

As we were walking down the path with Merlin floating at my side, there seemed to be a weird tense atmosphere on this path.

I can't really place it.

Our walk here was quiet, almost too quiet frankly.

"Trainer, there seems to several Pokémon on the trail up ahead." Stated Merlin.

Ah yes finally the Mankey we can finally do this mission.

I had a bad feeling about this…

As we moved ahead, we could hear the cries of the seen Mankey. They were hopping around and throwing rocks and dirt around.

Upon entering the area, the three Mankey all stopped and instantly zeroed in on us.

"Mankey!"

"Mankey! Mankey!"

They all gained a wild look in their eyes.

"Merlin Stand Guard!"

Merlin popped into the center of the path in front of me with a flash.

My eyes then started to glow blue.

This was one of the dividends of our month of training, the Psychic-link. Something that we had worked hard on getting to an acceptable level of mastery. It allows us to communicate completely with our minds. No words were spoken while in this state.

With a thought, "Merlin use Swift."

Merlin instantly formed a series of glowing stars around him then after a second shoot with an extreme speed into the closest Mankey.

The move hit the Mankey before any of them could even blink.

There was a moment of silence before the first Mankey was flung a couple of feet and around for a second before he stopped.

"Mankey!" The two other Mankey roared before leaping towards Merlin.

As the lead Mankey was nearing Merlin with his fist cocked, in what looked like Brick Break; Merlin popped slightly to left with his own fist sparking golden.

With a slam, Merlin gave the Mankey a Thunder Punch uppercut that saw the Pig Monkey flying to the side of the opposite side of the path.

"Mankey!?" The other Mankey watched as his fellow rolled with golden sparks covering his body, clearly stunned with the effective move.

The last Mankey looked at his downed brethren and then glared at Merlin.

Merlin flinched.

Fuck that was Glare!

"Merlin, break out of it and use Telekinesis, slam him."

Merlin took a second but broke the paralysis. Lifting his arms and gaining a glowing soft blue, Merlin grabbed ahold of the Mankey with his mind and lifted him using Psychic power.

Then slammed him hard against the ground!

The Mankey groaned then begun to get to its feet

"MANKEY!"

Well, that's one angry Mankey…

Just then the Mankey took a deep breath and...

"ROARRRRRRRRRR!"

Fuck! Both Merlin and I held our ears. What the fuck?! That was Roar! I didn't know Mankey could learn Roar?!

"Merlin take that Mankey out! Use Psychic!" I hissed aloud.

Before I had finished speaking Merlin was already moving.

Merlin gained an aura of purple and blue energy which rocketed towards the Mankey, slamming into and throwing a good dozen feet down the path.

It twitched a couple of times.

After a second, I thought the Mankey might get back up, but it was not to be and Mankey fell unconscious.

Dang that was bit rougher than we figured it would be huh Merlin?"

"I suppose trainer, I did have it under control though" Merlin said as he floated closer to me.

Yeah, I guess he did have mostly under control. Now I guess we would have to lug their bodies for while…I guess it will be good practice for Merlin. Though by the glare I got when I said that he wasn't a fan.

Just as we were getting the three together, we heard a crashing sound coming from the trees off to our side.

Turning quickly to where the noise was coming from, we saw that the surrounding brush was shaking.

We had all but a second before out of the forest leaped a veritable troop of Mankey, there must have been a dozen or more, all angry and yelling. They were probably looking for food in the forest and heard when that last Mankey used Roar, then came running.

To make matters worse, there in the center stood a nasty-looking Primeape thumping his chest and shaking in could only be rage, Drool being flown around as he snarled and yelled rage in his eyes.

This is bad.

Poseidon would practically be useless in this fight.

Merlin, while not hurt or tired wouldn't last too long against so many Pokémon, maybe a couple but not this many. Or the fact they a strong-looking Primeape leading them could only be a thing, but we can do this!

"Merlin uses Thunder Wave and stun as many as you can! Aim at that Primeape!"

Merlin, before any of them could response sent a huge wave of golden haloes at the troop. The move sped quickly and hit where the majority of troop was gathered!

The move landed with a boom.

"Primeape!" Yelled the Leader of the troop

The Primeape looked to have rolled out of the Thunder Wave at the very last second, but it looked like it did take out about eight of the Mankey judging by the various downed and sparking forms.

"PRIMEAPE!"

As the roared sound several sound waves erupted from Primeape.

Merlin was impacted by the Waves and flinched heavily with his ears being pressed against his head.

Uproar! Fuck.

"Merlin use Telekinesis!" Yelled over the waves.

I guess Merlin had managed to hear me over the Uproar because two of the Mankey still conscious were lifted in a Psychic hold and then promptly rammed into Primeape back at high speed!

"Primeape!?" Yelled as the Mankey impacted.

Primeape was thrown to the ground in a crash that to hurt.

"Again Merlin!"

The two practically unconscious Mankey were once again lifted back up in a Psychic hold then crashed into each other hard, resulting them being knocked unconscious.

Releasing the hold over the two unconscious Mankey, Merlin his attention to the last three remining threats.

"Primeape! Mankey!"

Damn, they looked to be the strongest of the lot if going by the strength they presented.

And Merlin was tired too.

"Mankey!"

The two Mankey rushed forward towards us.

"Merlin use Swift!"

Once a series of Stars formed that then rushed out impacting one of the Mankey throwing to the ground.

All of a sudden, the other Mankey all but disappeared.

Before I could even blink the Mankey appeared out of must have been some kind of quick attack.

"Mankey!" The Pig Yelled as he threw both fists into my body.

I gasped as I was thrown a good couple feet through the air and then hit the ground hard.

The clearing became quiet instantly.

"Trainer!" Merlin roared through our link.

All of a sudden, a glow started and the grew throughout the clearing.

The glow of evolution!

A single word could be heard when the glow finally died down revealing my starters new form.

"KADABRA!"

Merlin has grown and his ears sharpened. He had gained a star on his forehead and the hard brown chest had gotten bigger too. He had grown long whiskers, and his eyes were firmly open and in one hand he had gained a mental spoon that shined in the sun.

Before I could even begin to admire his new form, he lifted his spoon and a Psybeam lanced out and struck dead center the Mankey that had hit me.

The Mankey was flown into the truck of a tree, by the sickening crunch I doubt it would be getting up again.

The newly evolved Kadabra turned to the last Mankey, lifting him up and then using his Psychic hold over the Pokémon snapped his neck and then flung body away.

The sound echoed through the clearing.

Even Primeape took a step back from this display.

Primeape looked at his dead troop members and rage once again entered his eyes.

"PRIMEAPE!"

I could feel that I didn't have any broken bones, but that Mankey had knocked the wind out of my lungs, and I was still gasping from the hit.

"Target his legs Merlin" I thought with as much clarity as I could at the moment.

"Kadabra!" Merline spoke aloud in a yell.

A purplish black plasma exited his body and formed in that I now recognized as a Shadow Ball! The ball, now fully form, raced off in a millisecond.

Before Primeape could even take a step, the Shadow Ball impacted his legs with a devastating smack.

"Primeape!' It screeched in pain and agony.

"Merlin use Psybeam!" We needed to take that Primeape out before it caused any more damage!

Merlin lifted his spoon and glowed before a lance of pure Psychic energy shot forward.

Just as the Psybeam was going to hit, Primeape dodged to its left, even with injured legs.

"PRIMEAPE!"

Primeape gained a look of determination and started to gather power and started to slam his hands on the ground in a very similar manner.

"PROTECT" I roared finding the air to speak after realizing what move it was using.

Merlin instantly formed a glowing shield of hexagon patterns in front of him.

As Primeape's fist hit the ground a series of cracks formed and broke the earth as it raced towards Merlin.

Around Merlin the earth seemed to split apart, and a ton of energy was thrown towards Merlin.

Thanks to Protect the blast was stopped cold.

What the fuck?! That was fucking FISSURE!

What the fuck was Primeape doing knowing a one-hit K,O?!

"Merlin Telekinesis! Knock him out!"

Primeape was lifted into the air using his Psychic hold and was about to be slammed into the ground. Before that could happen, he gained a purple glow and aura and was dropped to the ground.

The aura sprang toward Merlin, and he flinched.

That was Spite!

What the hell was this Primeape!

I snarled, "Use Shadow Ball!"

The Shadow Ball formed faster than usual due to the Spite effects still being felt.

The Shadow flew through the air and impacted Primeape right in the chest, causing a dust cloud to form with the impact.

After the cloud cleared the sight caused my eyes to widen.

Primeape was still standing, beaten and bloody but still standing yet the same.

Just as I was about to call out another move, his eyes rolled back into his eye, and he finally fainted.

Finally, it was over.

"Merlin use Thunder Wave and make sure that Primeape and Mankey stay down."

Merlin didn't hesitate to do so. After that was done, we made sure to check to see if there were any more threats around.

When there wasn't I got to relax for the first time in what felt like forever.

"Trainer, are you well?" Merlin, who had teleported near me thought.

I took deep beath and just laid down.

"I think that Mankey took my breath out of my lungs Merlin, but I am well."

"Let me get a look at you buddy." He floated over to me looking kind of bashful.

"Let me see about your new form" I said

Pulling out my Arc Phone and pointing towards Merlin. I knew he learned a few new moves for sure in this dangerous fight.

[Pokémon Detected]

[Kadabra: Pokédex Entry Unlocked!]

[Kadabra: The Psi Pokémon]

[This Pokémon possesses strong spiritual power. The more danger it faces, the stronger its psychic power becomes. If it uses its abilities, it emits special alpha particles that come out of the surface of its body that will cause machines to malfunction.]

[This Kadabra knows the moves: Teleport, Thunder Punch, Thunder Wave, Rest, Protect, Calm Mind, Swift, Sleep Talk, Psychic, Telekinesis, Psybeam, Recover, and Shadow Ball. Egg Move: Power Trick.]

[Ability: Synchronize. Hidden Ability: Magic Guard.]

Goodness that was quite the freaking move set! Recover? Nice!

"Good job buddy on finally getting Shadow Ball, you did great!"

Merlin seemed to be embarrassed as he turned away.

I needed to call Oak and the Pokémon Center so they could call a Ranger and have them deal with all of this; in my current state I won't be able handle all of this.

Look at the downed Primeape,

I knew what I was about to do was a bad idea.

I mean, look at the mess before me, the damage and death. I wasn't even planning on catching one of his line at all, I thought that the line was rather weak after all.

But I couldn't help myself…

Taking another "borrowed" Pokéball I threw it had the downed form of the Primeape.

Hitting the down form and then swallowed him up and started to shake.

It took three clicks, and I had a Primeape on my team.

This was probably a bad idea; I would need to make sure that he would obey me and work with me. And then there was the relationship that needed to be worked on between Merlin and the new catch, but I cannot pass up a wild Pokémon like that, no matter the slight issues that may occur. He knew freaking Fissure!

"Are you sure about this trainer?" Merlin asked with slight concern.

"We'll have to see but I think he will be a great member of our team."

Directing my Arc Phone to the returned Pokeball a series of messages popped up.

[Pokémon Detected]

[Pokémon Caught: Primeape!]

[Primeape: Pokédex Entry Unlocked!]

[Primeape: The Pig Pokémon]

[This Pokémon becomes wildly furious if it even senses someone looking at it. It will give chase to anyone that meets its glare. It is always furious and tenacious to boot. It will not abandon chasing its quarry until it catches up.]

[This Primeape knows the moves: Leer, Swagger, Close Combat, Spite, Fissure, Uproar, and Fire Punch. Move Egg: Thunder.]

[Ability: Anger Point. Hidden Ability: Defiant]

[Mission Update: Pokémon Found 67/?]

Dann, that's one strong Pokémon!

There of course would be issues but I felt like I could deal with them.

Clicking on the phone feature and dialing up Oak I knew the next couple minutes were going be fun…

A.N: And that wraps up another chapter. This was a fun chapter to write, with my first battle scene and trying figure out how to balance that all and keep it at least somewhat clean. The fact that this fiction is just a week old and already has dozens of people following it is wild to me. I hope that I can keep up with people's expectations and hopes. I intend to continue this fic for a good long while if the outlined 60 chapters are anything to go by…The training arc has two chapters and he on his journey! Can you guess what Region he will go to first?

Pratikchakraborty911: Oh, I totally agree with you on the fact that it is rather one dimensional with all the Pidgey and all in most Fanfictions. I think it comes from the love of Gen 1 Pokémon and the nostalgia factor. And I agree with the idea that Pidgeot does have less potential as Flying type than Gyarados for sure. The main benefit for MC in Pidgeot is the versatility as Pidgeot is also a normal type as well. Add to the fact that there is a special plotline involving Pidgeot, well I won't spoil anything, but it will be different for real. Thanks for the review!

TrickNick1: As you can see in this chapter some Pokémon learn at different paces than other kinds of like humans are different things. Merlin is special in the sense that he learns most things really fast. This has to do with the fact that the Abra-line is really smart like 5,000IQ points smart. The MC wont have a too op team but with the level of knowledge and access to Professor Oak and his Alakazam, it would be embarrassing if he wasn't at least slightly op at the start of his journey.
