Nicky stirred slowly, the gentle warmth of the sun draping across the cozy living room like a comforting shawl. She blinked sleepily, taking in the familiar surroundings—framed photos adorning the walls, the faint scent of wildflowers wafting in from the open window, and the soft, rhythmic sound of breathing next to her. It was Embry, sound asleep with his dark hair tousled and an easy smile playing on his lips.

Nicky felt a flutter in her chest; the way Embry seemed so peaceful next to her filled her with a sense of contentment. They had spent many late-night talks on this couch, laughing and sharing secrets, but waking up next to him felt different, more intimate somehow.

Embry went further in depth about what it meant to the Quillutes last night while they where laying on the couch last night. Embry said that for werewolves, imprints were meant to be deep and life-altering, creating a sense of belonging and eternity shared between two individuals. But for Nicky, the imprint didn't even exist in her consciousness as anything more than a delightful friendship. She had no idea that to Embry, she was the sun—his world revolved around her laughter, her dreams, her very essence.

Nicky had found so much comfort in Embry's presence last night. And to Embry, the imprint was just a bond so strong it transcended the usual boundaries of friendship; it was refreshing and uncomplicated, devoid of the complexities that often clouded friendships.

The blanket that covered her was warm, and without wanting to disturb him, she carefully shifted it off and slipped out from under his arm, savoring the quiet moment.

She padded across the living room, enjoying the feel of the cool wooden floor under her feet. The golden sunlight streamed in through the large bay windows, illuminating the room and casting playful shadows. Nicky couldn't help but smile as she looked back at Embry, wishing she could capture this moment in time.

In the kitchen, the sound of birds chirping outside mingled with the gentle clinks of pots and pans. Nicky opened the cupboard, grabbing a mug and pouring herself some coffee from the pot that sat warm on the counter. The rich aroma filled the air, and she breathed it in deeply, savoring the robust scent.

A few minutes passed, and she heard the soft thud of footsteps behind her. She turned to see Embry appearing in the doorway, rubbing the sleep from his eyes, his expression still laced with that dreamy, relaxed charm.

"Morning," he said with a sleepy grin, his voice low and warm.

"Morning, sleepyhead," Nicky teased, handing him a steaming cup of coffee. She watched as he took a sip and sighed in delight.

"Perfect," he declared, setting the mug down on the counter.

"You ready for breakfast?" Embry asked.

"I'm always ready for breakfast," she replied, watching him move around the kitchen with an ease that made her heart flutter again.

Embry puttered about, cracking eggs into a bowl, the rhythmic sound acting as background music to their morning. They chatted casually about everything and nothing, despite not knowing eachother for long, the conversation reminded Nicky of the way old friends would talk, until the sizzling of bacon filled the air, enticing Nicky to edge a little closer.

Just as the kitchen was filled with the inviting scent of breakfast, Paul burst through the door. His usual boisterous energy lit up the space, and he grinned widely at the sight before him.

"Smells amazing! What are we feasting on?" he asked as he leaned against the doorframe, eyeing the pan filled with eggs, bacon, and some sort of breakfast hash Embry had managed to whip up.

"Just the usual," Embry said, gesturing to the spread.

"Made just for you, Paul." Nicky said, smiling big.

"Of course you did. I'm your second favorite," Paul replied, winking at Nicky, who rolled her eyes with a laugh.

"Only second?" she shot back playfully, crossing her arms.

"Okay, okay! I'm your favorite!" he exclaimed, grabbing a plate and moving towards the kitchen island.

As they sat down to eat, laughter and playful banter filled the room. Nicky felt a warm sense of belonging wash over her; this was her little family, flawed but beautiful, surrounded by love and easy companionship. They shared stories between bitesand discussed plans for the day ahead.

After breakfast, they lingered at the table, cups of coffee in hand, soaking up the comfortable camaraderie. Nicky couldn't shake the feeling that these mornings were fleeting moments of magic, little jewels of time that reminded her of how precious life could be when shared with the right people.

Nicky leaned back in her chair, a smile on her lips. "So, what's next on the agenda for the three of us?"

Embry exchanged a glance with Paul, then grinned.

"I was thinking a hike to the old lookout. We've never taken you there yet Nicky!" Nicky's face lit up after the suggestion.

"Great idea! Let's get ready. The trails will be perfect this time of year!" Howled Paul.

As they got up from the table, Nicky felt a rush of excitement, the warmth of the morning still wrapped around her like the blanket from the couch. Whatever the day held, she knew one thing for certain: This was just the beginning of another beautiful adventure with the two people she cherished most.

Fear from James started to creep up on Nicky but she pushed it down. As long as Nicky stayed with someone fom the pack, and stayed in the boundaries of the LaPush reservation she'd be safe.

Embry, Paul, and Nicky were hiking on a trail in LaPush. It was early afternoon, and the sun was shining through the forest canopy, casting dappled shadows on the earths floor. Laughter echoed through the woods as the trio made their way up the winding trail, each step accompanied by the crunch of leaves and twigs underfoot.

Nicky led the charge, her hair streaming behind her like a banner.

"Come on, slowpokes!" she called, glancing back with a grin that was pure mischief.

Paul and Embry exchanged a devious glance, sharing the knowledge that they were ten times faster than Nicky could ever go and she was starting to sweat like crazy, but their expressions mirroring the same joy that came from the camaraderie.

"She's got a lot of energy today," Paul remarked, shaking his head playfully.

"She always does!" Embry laughed, as he took a few long steps to quickly catch up to Nicky.

The trail twisted uphill, leading them through towering pines and vibrant foliage, summer barely hanging on to stubborn green leaves. The trio was so engrossed in their banter that they scarcely noticed the air growing cooler, the wind shifting in a way that made the hair on the back of Embry's neck stand on end.

Suddenly, without warning, the atmosphere changed. A rustle in the underbrush drew their attention, silencing their laughter. From the shadows stepped a figure, pale and unnaturally stunning—almost regal in bearing.

It was a vampire, with ruby eyes that glinted with a predatory gleam, watching them with an unsettling calm. It wasn't James. The vampire had darker skin, and long dreads. But he could apart of the coven because the timing was much too soon to be coincidental that Nicky would run into two diffeent covens on two consecutive days.

Nicky's smile faded, instinctively sensing the danger. Embry and Paul snapped into protective stances as if they had rehearsed it a thousand times. Embry stepped in front of Nicky, his body tense and poised for action, while Paul growled low, dropping into a slight crouch, ready to spring and phase any second.

"Stay behind us, Nicky," Embry commanded, his voice firm but reassuring.

He could feel the adrenaline coursing through his veins, his wolf instincts screaming that this creature was a threat.

Nicky, though taken aback, trusted them. She nodded, her heart racing as she moved closer to Embry, who was a warm presence shielding her from the unknown, dangerous vampire.

Nicky's heart raced as she peered out from behind Embry's solid frame. He was tall and muscular. Paul was just as muscular, on the other hand, he was more stoic, his amber eyes were vigilant and sharp, scanning the vampire up and down and Paul wore a ruthless grin, ready for a fight.

The vampire had appeared without warning—a gaunt figure with skin like porcelain and eyes that shimmered an unnatural shade of crimson. He had emerged from the shadows with an elegance that was almost mesmerizing, yet filled Nicky with a primal instinct to flee. She felt that instinct stirring deeply now, flaring with urgency. But she stayed directly behind Embry.

The vampire tilted its head slightly, a smirk playing at the corners of its lips.

"Aren't you two brave?" it taunted, its voice smooth yet chilling.

"But bravery often leads to foolish decisions." The vampire taunted.

Paul's stance widened, ready to defend at any moment.

"You think you can just come in here and intimidate us? You've picked the wrong place to hunt. You won't hunt on our land." Paul seethed.

"Wrong place, wrong company," Embry added, his eyes never leaving the vampire.

He could feel the tension in the air, thick and electric. This was a game to the vampire, but for Nicky, it was life or death.

The vampire's expression shifted, momentarily intrigued.

"Protection can be so… charming." With a flick of its wrist, it stepped closer, testing their resolve.

Paul would not let that happen.

"I suggest you think twice before you take another step, leech." he warned, his growl deepening.

Nicky's heart raced, fear mingling with awe as she watched her friends rally together. A surge of pride filled her as she marveled at the bond they shared, the lengths they would go to protect her.

The vampire laughed softly, a sound that echoed unnaturally in the stillness of the forest.

"I see. An intriguing little duo. And a pet. But this is your warning. I'm just here to scout. Next time, there may not be a chance for you to protect her. We want her. James wants her." He drawled with a sadistic smile.

With that, the vampire languidly turned, its form melting back into the shadows, leaving only a chilling silence in its wake.

As soon as the threat was gone, Embry turned to Nicky, visibly shaken though trying to appear calm.

"Are you okay?" he asked, eyes searching hers for signs of distress.

"I'm fine," she replied, though her voice trembled slightly.

"I wasn't scared… much." Nicky stuttered, her resolve breaking as she took in the vampires last, chilling words.

Paul relaxed his posture, giving her a reassuring smile.

"We're here—always will be. Let's get out of here, yeah?" Paul asked?

Nicky nodded, feeling herself urged forward by the urge for safety, but her heart also felt swathed in warmth from their protection. The hike had taken an unexpected turn, but she couldn't help feeling grateful for the brothers who were willing to stand strong against any darkness.

Embry held a hand out for Nicky. She latched on to it like he life depended on it. She desperately needed support before her shaky legs gave out and embarrassed her.

"You gonna be okay with just Embry?" Paul asked Nicky after they walked for a few moments.

"I have to phase and let the pack know that a vampires been spotted. They'll try to track it down and kill it while we make our way back home." Paul said, power exuding in his voice.

"Go ahead, man." Embry replied.

"Alright, I'll catch up with you guys in a bit." Paul said.

And Paul left to change, then phase and inform the pack of their encounter while Embry and Nicky held helds, steadily walking down the trail towards where they parked.

Paul didn't end up meeting Embry and Nicky at the car. He'd made sure they got home safe but he stayed in his wolf form.

The sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows across the dense underbrush of the forest. As evening approached, the air grew heavy with anticipation. The russet, gray, black and brown forms of Paul, Jacob, Sam, and Jared moved in synchrony, their powerful muscles rippling beneath their thick fur. They had prowled these woods like ancient spirits, bound together by their deep-rooted loyalty and feral instincts.

The wolves had hunted only a couple of other vampires, but none filled them with the primal urgency they felt now. This one was after Nicky.

The dark-skinned vampire with dreads was an intruder, an unstoppable predator that had already left a trail of bodies in the nearby town of Port Angeles. His reputation was draped in shadows and blood—he had taken too much, and tonight they would stop him.

The pack spread through the thickets, they communicated in a way that transcended words—a mixture of thoughts and feelings that surged through their pack mind. The connection was a deep hum of energy, a shared understanding fueled by instinct and purpose.

"We split near the river," Jacob thought, directing the plan into their collective mind.

"Sam and I will flank from the south. Paul and Jared, you take the north. We close in on him before he senses us."

"Got it," Jared replied, his thoughts crisp and focused.

"He doesn't know we're here yet, but we need to act fast."

"Stay sharp," Jacob added, his tone embedding a sense of tense urgency.

The vampire was cunning; they could almost feel his dark presence licking at the edges of the forest, his powers sensing every movement.

With their plan settled, the wolves slipped through the underbrush, silent and stealthy. The forest opened up as they neared the river; the churning water reflected the last rays of the sun, a shimmering line between light and dark. They could see him now—a figure not unlike a shadow, poised and motionless as if he were one with the gloom.

The vampire's dark skin glimmered with remnants of daylight, and his dreads floated unnaturally in the air, as if something sinister surrounded him. He surveyed the area, every sense sharp for any disturbance. But he underestimated the wolves, the bond of their pack was stronger than his arrogance.

"Now!" Paul thought, and they sprang into action.

In an instant, the forest exploded with sound—growls, snarls, and the rustle of powerful wolves charging through the brush. The vampire's head snapped toward them, a flash of surprise gracing his features, but it was too late. A storm of fur and teeth descended upon him.

Paul lunged first, jaws snapping as he aimed for the vampire's shoulder. The creature retaliated, swinging an arm in an arc that sent Paul sprawling, but Paul still got a chunk of the leeches marble shoulder in his mouth.

Sam was there, and lunged at the vampire's legs, sending the vampire crashing to the ground. Jacob and Jared followed, their bodies colliding with the ancient predator as they gave in to their primal nature, a seizure of instinct fueling them.

The dark-skinned vampire hissed, revealing sharp teeth that gleamed in the twilight, but when the wolves worked together, it was a force of nature too formidable to face alone. The wolves around the vampire, dodged his attacks and struck with precision.

Continuous communication buzzed through their minds, directing each other deftly as they battered him with hard bodies and stronger wills.

"Keep him off balance!" Jacob urged as he feinted left and then darted right, catching the vampire off guard.

"We've got him!"

The world narrowed into a ferocious clash where the forest held its breath, relishing the spectacle of predator versus predator. With each passing moment, they felt the tide turn. The vampire was skilled, but their unity made them stronger. They were more than just wolves; they were a family bound by a duty to protect their territory.

With a final concerted effort, Paul and Jared dove in from either side, catching the vampire at his torso. Jacob seized the moment and sank his teeth into the vampire's neck, the potent mix of adrenaline and purpose igniting his every sense as he pulled off the vampires head.

The pack worked together and pulled apart the leech, distributing it into little chunks and then Jacob phased to his human form, took a lighter and a small bottle of gasoline out of his shorts pocket and lit the leech up.

Silence enveloped the clearing; the only sound was the wind whispering through the leaves, carrying away the remnants of the ancient creature as the nauseating smoke filled the air. The wolves stood over their vanquished foe, chests heaving with exertion and triumph. Cheers ran through the pack mind.
