The next thing Kate knew, it was 6pm. When she opened her eyes she had changed position to now lying along the sofa. Steve was beside her and she was still in his arms.

"Evening," he greeted with a yawn when he saw she was awake. He had only just beaten her to consciousness.

"Hi," said Kate, still a little disorientated.

"I awoke at 2pm," Steve said trying to explain what had happened, "and you were fast asleep. I moved us to a more comfortable position before falling asleep again,".

"We've been asleep all afternoon?" Kate asked.

"Looks like it," Steve replied.

"Wow," Kate replied. "Must have needed the rest I guess," she continued before her stomach growled.

"Hungry?" Steve asked.

"Yeah," Kate admitted. "Was gonna get a pizza,".

"I could do pizza," Steve agreed, hoping Kate would let him eat with her.

Kate studied the man lying beside her. "As long as you don't like anchovies we could get a large pizza. Maybe half and half," she suggested.

"Hate anchovies," Steve revealed truthfully.

"Good," Kate replied before reaching for her phone. They studied the menu and eventually dialled through their order. "Twenty minutes," Kate said as she hung up.

"Are you gonna stay the night?" She eventually asked, wondering what Steve's plans were.

"I can't," Steve said regretfully. "I'm on an early shift tomorrow," he explained. "Why?".

"Was gonna see if we had a bottle I could open," Kate revealed. "Probably best not to," she continued.

The pizza arrived as Steve and Kate attempted once again to watch what they had chosen on Netflix earlier in the day. With some food, they got a bit further than the opening titles but lost a bit of interest when Steve decided to make an admission.

"Yesterday, you told me I was a free man again," he said. Kate turned her attention away from the television. "I'm not sure I want that," he revealed. "I don't want this to be goodbye. It wasn't just because of the baby that I kept in contact," he confessed. "I sort of wanted to keep in contact with you as well,".

Kate studied the man sitting beside her. He looked nervous after just unburdening his soul, waiting expectantly for her to deliver her reply.

Such a lot had happened since they first met each other but Kate realised that she felt the same way as he did. "What are you doing a week next Friday?" Kate eventually replied.

It wasn't quite the answer Steve was wanting. "Err…..let me check," he said as he pulled out his phone and looked at his diary. At least it looked as if she wanted to see him again. He just hoped he was free. "Day shift on Thursday and then four days off," he informed her.

"It's Jayne and Rich's wedding and I have a newly acquired plus one invitation if you wanted to come,".

"Umm….," Steve hesitated.

"I dont want to sway your vote, but you'd have Jayne's undying love for ever for saving her seating plan," Kate prompted.

"Would I have yours?" Steve asked shyly.

"Maybe," Kate admitted as she blushed.

"OK then," Steve decided. "I'll come," he said. "I wondered if I would ever get an invite," he admitted before they returned to their pizza and TV.

"Kate?" hollered Jayne a little while later as she returned back to her flat with Rich in tow.

"In here," Kate shouted back, letting Jayne know she was in the living room.

"Just wondering how you're-," Jayne said as she entered the room before catching sight of the other person in the room. "Steve!" she greeted. "This is a nice surprise," she continued before she gave a pointed glance at her housemate for an explanation. Kate might deny it but she was fairly sure there was something going on between the pair. This only heightened Jayne's suspicions.

Kate ignored Jayne's look. "Steve popped by for an unannounced visit," she informed Jayne.

"Thought I would see how she's doing," Steve added.

"That's nice," Jayne said as Rich entered the room behind her. "This is my fiance, Rich," Jayne introduced the two men. "Rich, this is Steve,".

"Hi," the two men acknowledged each other.

"We'll leave you two, to it," Jayne said as she began to depart the room.

"I've solved the seating plan problem," Kate decided to inform Jayne before she left.

Jayne smiled. She knew what Kate was talking about and who was now going to be at their wedding. She didn't have a problem with her new guest at all. "Lovely," she replied.

"What seating plan problem?" Rich asked, totally unaware of any problem. This was the first he was hearing about a problem.

"Nothing," Jayne said as she shooed him out of the living room and towards her bedroom. "All sorted,".

"Who's Steve?" Rich asked Jayne once they were alone and out of earshot of Steve and Kate.

"Steve from the Met," Jayne replied.

"Do I know Steve from the Met?".

"No," Jayne answered, "but I think you're going to,".

"Are Kate and him….?".

"Not sure," Jayne replied. "I think so,".

"I better go, I suppose," Steve said reluctantly once the pizza had been consumed and he'd seen the time.

"OK," Kate replied in as disappointed a tone.

"Will I see you before the wedding?" Steve asked.

Kate made a face that told him it was unlikely. "It's going to be wedding central here for the next two weeks," Kate explained, "and it's the Hen party next weekend,".

"I'll have to make do with phone and video calls then," Steve compromised as he found his keys. "You'll let me know the wedding details?" he asked Kate as they made their way to his car.

"Yeah. I'll send them," Kate replied, "and directions,".

"Great," Steve said as he stood in front of his car. "I guess this is good bye then for a little while,".

"I guess," Kate concurred before Steve leant forward and gently took Kate's lips in a kiss.

Kate was shocked at first but soon relaxed in to the kiss. She enjoyed it so much that when Steve went to pull away, Kate wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him closer. Eventually they had to pull apart to breathe

"A week Friday can't come soon enough," Steve muttered quietly to Kate who smiled sadly at his words. She was going to struggle not seeing Steve for nearly two weeks as well.

"Phone every night," she instructed.

"Of course," Steve agreed before giving Kate another peck on the lips before finally leaving her personal space and unlocking the car.

"Drive safe," Kate wished before watching Steve settle himself in the car and drive off. Giving him one last wave, she headed back in to her flat.
