Chapter 31: Special Little Brother vs. Failed Big Brother
"Good grief." Langris bemoaned. "As if you could ever defeat me, Brother."
"Langris, I managed to change after meeting my friends." Finral told his younger brother. "We'll be the ones who win this."
"Whatever." Langris shrugged. "Don't blame me for whatever happens, all right?"
"Would you let me handle him?" Finral turned to Leopard and Hamon.
"I'm going to burn the image of me gallantly riding my Shooting Star into everyone's eyes." Sekke bragged.
"You will not lay a finger on our crystal." Flagil promised.
"And now, Team E: Leopard, Hamon and Finral versus Team G: Langris, Flagil and Sekke." the referee announced. "Round Two of Stage Two, begin!"
"You two concentrate on destroying the enemy's crystal." Finral laid down his plan.
"Let's find out where it is." Hamon readied his detection spell. "Glass Magic: Verre Détection. I can see every inch of this battle stage as the light reflects off the glass. It will take a little while, but I will definitely find the enemy's crystal."
"I expect you to take me all the way to the enemy base." Langris told Sekke.
"Leave it to me." Sekke assured. "Found it." he turned the corner.
"As we planned, we'll leave him to you, Finical." Leopard reminded.
"Just a reminder: don't blame me if you lose any limbs." Langris smirked. "I'll end this in one blow." he let loose a huge spatial magic blast, only to have Finral use the 'Fallen Angel Gate' to nullify the attack.
"I tested this out with another spatial magic user, Cob, and found out that when spatial magic collide, the mana currents collide and cancel each other out." Finral explained. "Langris, we're the ones who are going to win."
"Excellent work, Finral." Leopard laughed. "That was effective."
"Hamon, where's the enemy team's crystal?" Finral asked.
"I've finally found it." the glass mage replied. "It's deep within that tower."
"Then, I'm counting on the two of you." Finral sent Leopard and Hamon off via a portal.
"Who do you think you are, Brother." Langris snarled. "I'll remind you of your place."
With Flagil...
"You came in." Flagil cast her area-of-effect spell the moment Leopard and Hamon burst into the tower. "Snow Magic: Miniature Garden of Illusory Snow. This spell forces your senses to sleep. You cannot effectively attack me anymore."
"I'm not tired at all." Leopard held his ground. "This is nothing, especially compared to my older sister's training which could leave you dead. I swore upon the symbol on my forehead that I would surpass my brother someday." he flared up his magic aura. "And that means I can't lose in a place like this. Fire Magic: Spiral Flame." activating 'Mana Skin', he shot out a fire beam at the crystal behind Flagil.
"I won't last much longer, Langris." Flagil realized she was no match against an opponent who had mastered 'Mana Skin'.
Meanwhile...
"I never thought you'd become my natural enemy, Brother." Langris remarked, Finral having canceled out his attacks, one after another. "Do you plan on defending until our crystal breaks? I'm not sure that'll be so easy."
"It might not be." Finral admitted. "That's why I'm going to use a new spell." he then shot out a blast of spatial magic.
"What in the world is that slow spell?" Sekke mocked. "Like you could hit my badass self now. That's no match for my invincible Sekke Magnum Cannonball." he leapt off his transport and formed a protective sphere around himself, as Finral's new spell made a U-turn back to him and Langris.
"That was pretty pathetic, even for me." Finral confessed, having transported Sekke away from the fight. "I trained so hard, but I could never learn a single attack spell."
"It's not an attack spell?" Langris was taken aback.
Spatial Magic: Fallen Angel Flapping." Finral named his new spell. "It follows the enemy and once it makes contact, it transports them to another location. It's the applied version of the spell I usually use. Langris, it's only a matter of time before your crystal is destroyed. I don't want to hurt you. If you insist on continuing, I'll have to use this spell to make you leave."
"Who are you worried about?" Langris taunted, laughing. "You constantly get on my nerves, Brother. Who would've thought our special reserve spells would be similar? How dare you make me use my Grimoire's magic?" he let Ratri's soul take over. "There isn't a single thing you can beat me at, Brother. It's over, Brother."
In the audience...
"This mana..." Rhiannon frowned. "It couldn't be... Ratri?"
With Finral and Langris...
"Langris." Finral instantly recognized the familiarity of Langris' mana. "This immense magic power... I already knew I didn't stand a chance. But this is... this nauseating magic is like... who are you? No." he corrected himself. "He is Langris. He's my little brother. You may not like it, but we're similar. Our mothers are different, but in the end... Langris, stop it." he barked. "If you keep this up, I have a feeling you won't be you anymore."
"What could you possible know about me, Brother?" Langris snarled. "You left everything behind. You're a coward who can't even hurt people. Don't you dare act like my older brother now." he roared, letting his 'Archangel Shootdown' loose.
"I'll stop you." Finral stood his ground, releasing his own spell to counter Langris.
"Team G wins." the referee declared, seeing Team G's battered crystal and a severely wounded Finral.
"How do you like that?" Langris mocked his fallen brother. "There's nothing you can beat me at. Disappear." he glared, ready to kill Finral.
At that moment, Charmy activated 'Sheep Fluffy Cushion', launching the Black Bulls towards the two brothers, the trio stopping Langris from taking Finral's life.
"Finral." Noelle was instantly beside Finral.
"Hey." Asta glared.
"Just try and do something else." Magna growled.
"Forget the match." Luck's stare was stone cold. "We'll kill you."
