No-One But You (The Zephyr Endeavor)

Chapter 10: Quiet Coyote (Part 10)

James Buchanan Barnes, AKA "Bucky" remained in Nebraska with Donna Strange and her parents. Everyone from Steve Rogers, Wade Wilson, to Stephen Strange up and left eventually, but not the somber soldier.

Now, this version of Bucky Barnes never served in the military. He wasn't a "soldier" or the "Winter Soldier" at all… because he was brought to Earth Dimension 3000-21 before he entered World War II. We're not diving into that part of his story any further, but just know that this version of "Bucky Barnes" is going through some shit…

He was enduring some heartbreak and the damage was done by the Black Widow. Natasha had a way with words, and Bucky often found himself going through a cruel shut down as their "relationship" unraveled. They ended things on a sour note, so the "not-so-winter" soldier was distancing himself from his home back in New York.

Did you catch all that? Now, Bucky had known Stephen Strange since he was brought to his dimension. The "Strange" family kept him close, and the somber brunette was currently reconnecting with Stephen's family and younger sister, Donna.

There's a giant mess of history when it comes down to Bucky being around Donna, but all I want to bring up is the fact that she doesn't say his name as Bucky. He's simply known as "James" by everyone who remained in Nebraska, and they never referred to him as Bucky.

James had gotten used to that, and he explained to Donna's father that he was doing a bit of soul-searching. He didn't want to return home, and he didn't really want to continue staying in a room back at the Kamar taj. Oh, and just to be clear, wasn't avoiding Natasha Romanov at all…

He didn't have much to say to her if he ever saw her again, but James wasn't really avoiding how everything came to an end.

Now… stay with me, because Eugene Strange owned the Strange family farm somewhere near the middle of Nebraska. His children all left the state, and they clearly weren't interested in doing any farm work. The father of three suggested teaching James a few things while he was there searching his soul.

Stephen's father even said tending to a farm was the best way for a person to understand themself. Eugene was very on board with James sticking around, so the somber brunette said yes to his offer.

OK, now, DONNA STRANGE was a bit on the fence. I mean, she used to live with James. The two of them dated back in the day, and now he was back in her life. He was around her all the time, but the young man was operating at a distance. Him operating at a distance felt like torture for Donna, so she had to distance herself as well.

For now, her place was back at the Kamar taj. She had to support her little brother, Victor, as he navigated his way into operating as the Sorcerer Supreme. Distractions were abundant in his looney part of the story. Donna was extremely confused, and hesitant about Victor's peculiar relationship with Ezekiel Stane.

Actually, she was hesitant about Victor's peculiar relationship with Ezekiel Stane and Wade Wilson, because those two were becoming conjoined at the hip. Remember, Donna Strange is a member of the Surveillant Council, so she has access to information about Ezekiel that Victor isn't allowed to know.

The "White Jackal's" connection to Deadpool was growing stronger by the minute, despite the Council's efforts to keep Wade at a distance. All of that will be explained in someone else's storyline, because Donna's main objective was to say her goodbyes and catch up with her brother.

She accomplished that, but it was hard. She smiled at James and wished him good luck with all the farming before she left. He seemed invested in learning, and she knew that her father needed the help.

So, she finally parted ways with James Buchanan Barnes. She left his presence back in Nebraska, and the notion of doing that friggen sucked.
