Chapter 9: Preparing for a Test
Kaoru woke up and headed for the school's gym after getting in his workout clothes, a full bodysuit that was breathable but didn't let his body's odor out and a pair of shorts with sneakers. He was worried about his Mom; it had been a long time since his she had last been so badly hurt. His Mom was stubborn and strong willed, the only times she took a break from Hero work was when she was too injured or sick to move. She was a strong woman in every way; and her body had all the scars to prove it. She had shown them her scars when Kaoru and his siblings told their parents they wanted to be Heroes. She wanted them to know how dangerous it would be, how painful it could get. But still, knowing his mom was injured so badly made worried.
Kaoru got to the gym and started stretching before working on the heavy bag. Every strike he landed was packed with power and fury, as he imagined he was hitting the thieves that hurt his Mom. Other students that were there stopped and stared as Kaoru landed punch and kicks that made the heavy bag swing back hard. "Hey man, you want someone to spot you?" another student, Tetsutetsu Banzan asked. "Hold it hard, and thank you," Kaoru said after catching his breath. The son of Real Steel and Battle Fist activated his parents' Quirks and grabbed onto the heavy bag, then braced himself. Kaoru then unleashed a powerful combination that left people stunned at the raw speed and power as the sounds of his fists and feet on the bag resounded through the gym. Kaoru finished with a spinning back kick that made Tetsutetsu let go and knocked him back a step.
Kaoru blew out a breath and saw everyone staring at him. "Sorry," he said, "Stuff happened, at home." Tetsutetsu nodded and returned to normal before patting his shoulder, "We understand man. I heard about what happened, our Moms used to train together when they went to U.A., if it was my Mom I'd feel the same way." Kaoru nodded, "Thanks. For holding the bag and saying that." Tetsutetsu nodded and then Kaoru went to an exercise bike and road it for the next half-hour to finish his workout. Everyone went back to their own training, and soon left so that they could get ready for Monday classes.
Soon all of the students were in Class 1-A, and Creati-sensei came in with a smile on her face. "Alright everyone, I'm sure all of you have been waiting eagerly for this day. Today, shall be a special day as we begin:" The Creation Hero raised her hands and a sign then appeared between them that announced, "BATTLE TRIALS!" The students all cheered at the news as she continued, "And, all of your Hero costumes have been made, it's time for you all to show us what you got!"
Everyone cheered as the walls of the classroom opened and robotic arms handed each student a suitcase with their name and Student Number on it. "Alright everyone, head for the lockers and get changed into your Hero Outfits. I can't wait to see what your designs all are," Creati-sensei said as she led the students to the locker rooms and waited outside for them. After ten minutes everyone emerged from the locker rooms. Creati took one look at everyone and had a large nostalgic smile on her face, "Now you all look like Heroes."
Kaoru was dressed in a loose dark trench coat with matching pants and boots with the upper half of his face hidden beneath a mask that let his wolf ears out. He adjusted his sleeves to make sure that his hidden weapon remained hidden for now as he walked up. Mysa on the other hand was dressed in a violet sleeveless jacket and yellow sports bra with yellow fingerless leather gloves with torn violet pants and boots that made her look like a rockstar. "You really were trying to imitate Dad, weren't ya?" Kaoru commented to his sister. "Oh, can it. At least I look cool," Mysa said with a sisterly smack to his arm. Their fellow classmates of 1-A were also dressed in various styles. Samerya Hisa the Shark girl was dressed in a close-fitting navy-blue one-piece swimsuit with the symbols for 'Shark Hero' in white on her chest, while Miura Hiroshi was dressed like a classic movie vampire complete with cravat, cape, and gold cross on his chest.
Ishida Ishi was dressed in a form-fitting black sleeveless suit with a large backpack on her back that sounded like it was filled with rocks for her Quirk. Chiba Hiromasa was dressed like some kind of backwoodsman in a coarse looking outfit with numerous pouches and a staff. Bakugo Nao was dressed in a red and black version of Dynamight's outfit, except it was more of a unitard with nothing covering her arms or legs and durable looking boots. Her and Mysa walked close to each other and whispered to each other; Nao called Mysa a skank and Mysa responded with, "Bitch." The other students quickly separated the girls before they could say anything else to each other.
Tetsutetsu Banzan was dressed in a sleeveless martial arts uniform with black top and red bottom with martial arts slippers on his feet and the symbol of 'Grand Fist' on his chest. Ojiro Haru was dressed similarly to Tetsutetsu, but his clothes looked slightly more…fragile and he had no symbol on his outfit. Tokoyami Mika wore a dark green cloak but as it opened slightly it showed she was wearing a matching dark green leotard and had her hair done in a twin-tail style down her front as well. Ibara Shin wore a a white toga with a green sash and sandals on his feet like an Ancient Roman. Honda Yuta wore a bright blue spandex number and had a large smile on his face as he saw people staring at him.
Martin Thomson on the other hand looked like a post-apocalyptic barbarian with a sleeveless vest showing off his chest and wearing a bright red hockey mask on his face and fingerless red gloves with torn jeans and steel-toed red boots on his feet. Kurihari Miyuki looked like a fairytale princess with a long blue dress with ruffles and white gloves topped up with a crystal tiara and even a wand. Miyaki Koichi was wearing a dark skin-tight suit that left only his hands and face bare. Ito Ogami was the least dressed, he wore only a bandolier on his chest and long pants, showing off his fury werewolf body.
Kida Kohana was the second most scantily dressed, and the most scantily clad girl, she wore a pink tube top and green hotpants with pink gloves and sneakers and a green domino mask on her face; her outfit just barely covered the minimum necessary by Japanese Law for Heroes. Everyone was staring at her and she just said, "What? This is the most practical outfit for my Quirk." Nakamura Yasuo was dressed in an ordinary skintight outfit colored gold and black with golden MMA style gloves. Ozaki Dai was dressed in a bright yellow vest with long sleeves and black pants with yellow gloves. And finally, Sakurai Sally was dressed like some kind of fairy, in a red dress that looked like it was made of roses with a short skirt that showed off her long legs, her outfit even had wings on it and she had a wand with a gold star on it! Creati-sensei smiled on all her students and said, "You've all chosen very unique designs. But, keep in mind, you may have to change it as time goes by. Think of this as a test of your costumes along with yourselves. Now, let's go!"
From the Main Campus they took a bus to the area for their Battle Trial, Grounds B. Creati-sensei led the young Heroes in Training into Grounds B and let them all take a look at the building where their trial would begin. It looked like a crumbling office building, but Kaoru was sure that it was sturdy enough. "Alright everyone," Creati-sensei said, "Let me explain the rules of this Battle Trial. You will all pair up into teams, ten of you will be Villains and ten of you will be Heroes. The Villains will have a Secret Weapon that they must protect while the Heroes must capture the Secret Weapon. You'll have to do your best, however, stay in control. This is a Test, not a duel to the death. I remember my first Battle Trial, and one pair of Heroes who were left more crippled than the Villains were, even though they succeeded.
"If that had been a real-life situation, the Heroes would have been the losers. Keep that in mind as you prepare your strategies," Creati sensei said, and then from her arms she produced two boxes. "There are balls in here to let you pick your teams and whether you'll be a Hero or Villain. And, to help you all study and learn, we'll have a special guest joining us." Right on cue, a large green blur flew across the sky in Grounds B, only to turn around in mid-air and soar over the students again before it stopped and slowly floated down in front of the astonished students of 1-A, Deku, the World's Greatest Hero!
Everyone cheered like a packed concert stadium, many of the students had grown up with stories of Deku, and some had even met him before through their parents. Despite all that, none of them doubted that they were in the presence of a great Hero and human being. Deku, despite his fame, was still a humble Hero, and while his smile was confident, it didn't feel like he was boastful. Once the students quieted down Deku said, "I will be your instructor for this and many other lessons for you all. Also, after your school day is over, I will be spending an hour, only one hour, per day visiting the Student Dorms to consult you on your Quirks and give you all some advice to help make you better Heroes. But for now, line up and prepare to be divided into your Teams!"
You would have thought it was magic to see the twenty students all line up in so quickly, with barely a murmur they were so determined to make a good impression on The World's Greatest Hero. It was completely efficient and orderly as everyone patiently waited their turn and pulled out pieces of paper from the boxes that divided them into teams and Heroes or Villains. Unfortunately, they then saw who was divided up, and things took a bad turn as Mysa and Bakugo Nao both screamed, "YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME! I GOTTA TEAM UP WITH THIS BITCH!?"
The two teen girls glared at each other and Deku and Creati-sensei quickly got between them. "That is how it is," Deku said to the glowering girls as he put a hand on their shoulders. "You never know who you may need to work with in a given situation. But what makes a True Hero is their ability to put aside their differences for the greater good," he told them. Mysa and Nao glared at each other again, but then they both took deep breaths and sighed, "Fine."
Everyone else gathered themselves up into their designated pairs without incident, and Kaoru was paired up with Samerya Hisa. "Hey, aren't you Josuke's brother?" the shark girl asked as she walked up to him. "Yeah. Mysa's our sister. We got another in the same class with Josuke named Hana too," Kaoru said. "Can I ask you to give him something?" Hisa asked him. "Sure, after this," Kaoru said as Creati-sensei created one last box.
"Now everyone, pick someone among your pairs to pick up one last ball to decide if you'll be Heroes or Villains for this test," the Creation Hero said. Everyone did as instructed, and pulled out balls from the last box. Kaoru took the ball and saw that it was marked with an 'H' for Hero and the number 4. "What are these numbers for, Sensei?" Kaoru asked. Creati-sensei explained, "Finally, everyone, look for the pair that has your number. They will be your opponents for the test." Everyone followed her instructions, and then Kaoru, Hisa, Mysa, and Nao saw they were to face each other. Nao and Mysa got some downright evil smiles on their faces as they showed they would be Villains, while Kaoru and Hisa would be Heroes. "Oh crap," Kaoru said.
Author's Note: Sorry it took so long for me to write so little. The next chapter will be much longer. I've been suffering writer's block like nothing else.
