No-One But You (The Zephyr Endeavor)
Chapter 19: Connection Error Song(Part 9)
…
Have you ever seen the movie called the Truman Show?
…
Well, Wade Wilson felt like he was the character named "Sylvia", who was hired to be a background extra for the "show". She was just an ordinary person, meant to be in the background of Truman's heavily monitored, monopolized and exploited life.
Spoiler alert: Sylvia became romantically involved with Truman and she tried to reveal the truth to him about his life. This character or "extra", was actually the only character who didn't buy into the Truman Show simulation.
She spoke out against the charade, so she was thrown out before she could truly bond with Truman, or show him any affection.
Now, Sylvia later joined the "Free Truman" movement to expose the truth to him, and she monitored his life from afar at the exact same time.
…
Wade's mind recalled the movie and Sylvia's role… because he felt as if he was living in the Ezekiel Stane version of the Truman Show right there in that moment. He finished reading the file that was dedicated to the Surveillant Council, and he also read that his presence in Ezekiel's life was voted on AGAIN that morning.
The actual "council" had five members in total, and only two of them voted in his favor. That means Steve Rogers, Donna Strange and Charles Xavier voted for Ezekiel's thoughts and feelings toward him to be suppressed once again. The reasoning behind the suppression was so the transition from Ezekiel to "Rae-Ann" would happen smoothly, with no unnecessary distractions.
Just fuck the fuck off, fuckers. An inner protest was brewing deep within Wade's soul, and he began planning a mutiny after he shoved the digital S.H.I.E.L.D. file far from his face.
They really sealed the deal on that suppression shit, and only Tony Stark and Nick Fury voted in the opposite direction. Gee, thanks. Wade had a lot of information to process, so he armed himself with some music and a jump rope…
He started jumping in place as "Rae-Ann" continued working on the armor with Mr. Stark. Those two were nerding out over some Gundam stuff, and now Wade actually was avoiding Ezekiel. His body was turned away from him, and the mercenary stared off toward the opposite side of the building as he jumped, jumped and jumped.
He planned to use a pogo stick next, and he wasn't saying jack shit to anyone. Wade was planning a Jackal heist, or some sort of protest, because that vote was FUCKED UP.
Tony Stark's eyes snapped over in Wade's direction a couple times. He could tell the mercenary was angry, but the brunette couldn't do anything about it. Tony wondered if Wade was paying attention to the technology that he gave him a while ago. Was he actually looking at what the tech was doing to his skin?
Did he figure it out yet? Hmmm… the mercenary was dressed in his Deadpool costume in that moment. His entire body was still covered from head to toe. Tony pondered Wade's behavior, and his obvious inability to look at himself in the mirror.
The inventor turned his attention back toward the other person who refused to look at himself. Ezekiel Stane was still hiding, and still operating under the notion of being some sort of work in progress.
Tony got a good look at him as he worked, but his true self was concealed. All of that fascinated the inventor, but he did his best to force the thoughts from his mind.
Ezekiel wasn't aware of the vote against Wade and he wasn't interested in what the Surveillant Council had deliberated and voted on that morning at all. His mind was only centered on the work that was right there in front of him, and he wanted to hear Tony Stark's insight about making the armor lighter.
He was thinking about durability, flexibility and about having fluid movement for his teammates as they wore the suits. Ezekiel definitely wasn't distracted, but his eyes did migrate over in Wade's direction several times.
His body language said a lot, so the Jackal kept staring. He continued to watch as Wade did his random jump roping, and he felt compelled to send Victor Strange a message about what he was seeing.
A simple thought crossed Ezekiel's mind, and he almost sent it off as a message. His mind typed out something, but the words took an eternity to compose and take shape. Victor did receive something from Ezekiel just before he reached the blue area of the moon.
That's where the "Watcher", also known as Uatu, did his watching over Earth…
Victor arrived there with his family, but his cellphone wasn't working where he was at all. He wasn't able to read what Ezekiel wrote him, so he didn't know that he was thinking about being alone with Wade.
As Ezekiel worked on the suit, he mentally struggled with the word alone for a while. Before the Jackal sent the message, he clarified in his mind that he didn't mean being "alone" with Wade in any sort of romantic way.
He couldn't mean it that way, right? So Ezekiel's mind wrote out that he only wanted to talk to him, and hopefully clear things up.
