No-One But You (The Zephyr Endeavor)
Chapter 30: (s)AINT (Part 10)
Wade Wilson was chillin. He had a remote control in hand as he skimmed through all the apps on his "Roku" device, but his eyes were also looking off toward the left side of his bedroom.
The quiet coyote put some clothes on, and Wade was a little bummed out about it. Well, maybe half way bummed out, because he actually looked through Wade's stuff and he borrowed a pair of comfy shorts.
For the sake of being accurate, they were called "sweat shorts", and Wade was very particular about them. They weren't just a pair of sweatpants that were chopped off at the thigh, oh no… Wade had to have a specific brand and style.
He liked his lounge-wear to have some fabric to it that was buttery soft. They had to be lightly stretched, neutral tone, and equipped with pockets and a drawstring. That shit was mandatory and he let Ezekiel Stane know that information as soon as he saw him borrow a pair.
Ezekiel seemed pretty amused, but overall unaffected by the information Wade cared to share about his shorts. He even rolled his eyes a little bit when he heard the news, but the Jackal's vibe was playful.
He had something else on his mind as he thumbed through a pile of Wade's never-ending and never-organized laundry. The man spent days at the laundromat, but he never put any of his friggen clothes away.
Ezekiel was the polar opposite. He had to do something with his hands as well, so he started folding up Wade's mess.
…
"Did that really happen to him?"
…
There. The Jackal brought something else up as he thumbed through all the clothes. He was looking for a shirt to borrow as well, while Wade pondered what he heard. He also continued scanning through his Netflix account too, but none of it caught his eye.
Well, something in the room caught his attention. Before he answered Ezekiel's random question, Wade started looking at a dreadful scar that he created.
It stretched across Ezekiel's left hip, all the way up toward the bottom of his ribs. A fatal blow for any common man, but only a devastating one for those who weren't…
…
"Did what really happen, to who?"
…
Or whom? Are we playing riddles? Wade didn't mind. He liked playing word games with the quiet coyote, and he really liked the idea of pulling him back over on his bed.
Wade got him talking earlier. The man planned to accomplish that over and over and over and over and over and…
…
"I'm talking about Alex Murphy."
…
For some reason, Wade showed him the movie "RoboCop", and it's safe to say that Ezekiel was affected. He didn't like what happened to Alex Murphy, and he wasn't really sure what he witnessed when he looked up at the television screen.
The machine called RoboCop was affecting him, so the Jackal felt like bringing it up.
Wade kinda laughed, then he dropped the Roku controller somewhere beside his pillow. I mean, what?
…
"That was a movie. It wasn't real, and to my knowledge… it's never actually happened."
…
UnlessyoucountsomeoneorsomethingcalledtheWhiteJackal. WAIT, had Ezekiel Stane never seen a movie before? Not even with Victor Strange? Wade had to actually wonder. He rolled around on his bed for a sec, then he noticed that the somber Jackal stepped in a little closer. Wade was about to snatch his hand and reel him in for another round, but he didn't.
He studied that cute looking face instead, and he watched as Ezekiel busied himself with all the clothes. Wade didn't give a shit about his laundry, so…
…
"So wait, has your daddy ever let you watch a movie before? Or, do you even know what a movie is?"
…
In Wade's opinion, RoboCop was a cinematic masterpiece. He loved the film, and he was happy to share it with anyone willing to Netflix and chill. Ezekiel was a special case of course, and Wade was eager to hear his response.
His eyes happened upon that scar again, so the mercenary swallowed down an intrusive thought.
…
"I've witnessed other people watching movies… through my work, but I've never seen one before on my own. My father would have called it a waste of time.."
…
Ohhhhh, so he's seen one through his "work". Meaning, the television was on while he was cyber-stalking Tony Stark. Wade read up on all that, and he also read about how much it impacted Ezekiel's personality.
According to those poser-experts within the Stalker Council, the quiet coyote's personality was STILL impacted by Tony Stark to this day, and every choice he made was to be looked at and judged.
Even something as simple as putting on a pair of shorts was subject to interpretation. I mean, why oh why did he do it? Was it a Tony Stark thing? Did Tony Stark wear shorts like that? Was it a Steve Rogers/Tony Stark sexy time thing? Cuz Wade knew exactly what someone observed. The mercenary pondered it all while he replayed Ezekiel's answer again in his head…
…
"Hmhh, well survey says your dead Daddy Dearest was a loser. Movies aren't a waste of time, and that film is pretty special."
…
It was special in so so many ways. Wade really wanted Ezekiel to see it, and after a while, he was really happy that Weasel called him RoboCop whenever the coyote was around.
He watched that face. There was so much contemplation going on, and curiosity. Wade could see it, so he kept going…
…
"I mean, those corporate fucks in the movie did everything they could to keep Alex Murphy from having a soul. They took over his body, but they couldn't remove his soul in the long run. Did you catch that?"
…
"They couldn't keep RoboCop from being human. His feelings and emotions prevailed. It's a good story, and that's why I love that movie…"
…
Ezekiel stopped folding the laundry eventually. Again, he wasn't sure what he saw on the screen, but Wade's words made sense to him as soon as he spoke. There was a lot to unravel with what he saw, but the Jackal started thinking it would be better to talk to Charles Xavier about it.
But, maybe Xavier wanted that. Maybe he was presently encouraging the thought, so Ezekiel began to question if the thoughts in his mind even belonged to him. Everyone had an agenda it seemed, even Wade.
Wade had a vendetta against the Surveillant Council. That was more than obvious, but that didn't mean he wasn't being honest.
Ezekiel didn't mind Wade's vendetta against the Council. In fact, maybe he actually wanted the attention. Maybe? Well, all the RoboCop talk and intimacy started racing up for him in that moment. It rushed through Ezekiel's soul or something, so… he tried to breathe it out and calm himself down.
He just stood beside Wade's bed, and the Jackal kept his thoughts on that quiet, subdued, and all to himself.
Ezekiel glanced down toward his waist after a moment, cuz the mercenary brought his hand up toward that dreadful wound. Wade touched the scar he made, and Ezekiel took a half-step backward.
He didn't get very far, cuz Wade also grabbed his wrist and pulled him back in. He said something too, and Ezekiel felt affected by it once again.
Wade asked him again if he was forgiven. Did Ezekiel truly forgive the mercenary for trying to take his life, hurting him, and scarring up that perfect skin? The answer was yes, but the notion and contact was pretty overwhelming. It was suppperrr overwhelming, so the Jackal simply hid his face against Wade's and he failed to respond.
He just let Wade touch his scar, then his waist, his ribs, his arms, his face, all of it. The forever quiet coyote couldn't say anything more.
