No-One But You (The Zephyr Endeavor)
Chapter 33: Head in the Clouds (Part 3)

Clint Barton's private aircraft landed within the hangar of the S.H.I.E.L.D. facility, but the baby bird didn't intend to check in straight away.

Responding to Ezekiel Stane's smug fuckery was the absolute LAST thing on his to-do list, so he stepped out of the plane and looked off toward the horizon.

He planned to speak with his older brother before anyone else, and get his perspective on his former "boss".

"So. No hard feelings? Isn't that what you said?"

Yelena Belova removed herself from the aircraft as well, and the first thing she did was send off a text message to her sister Natasha.

She felt like digging up something the archer said too, just cuz. The moment felt right or something, so the young blonde gave a playful shrug. Barton watched her shoulders as they moved upward. Yelena was putting off a pretty unbothered vibe.

"Yeah. That's what I said. I can't be anything more than a friend, cuz, my thoughts aren't right, and…"

He rejected her at least a million times. The bird felt kinda bummed about it, cuz, I mean, Yelena Belova was a gorgeous woman. She was hilarious too, and intelligent.

Barton kept thinking that it would be a rebound hookup, or something. The thought wouldn't leave his mind. She watched the archer as he tossed his duffle bag over his shoulder, then he looked off toward his left once again.

He clearly wanted to head in that direction, so the little sister read a message back from the Widow, then she decided to wrap up the chat.

"I'm good with friends, so as a friend… I suggest you work things out and have a conversation with your wizard ex."

lol. Yelena maintained a coy smile when she spoke, then she whipped around toward the front half of the aircraft. Natasha was there in the flesh, but the archer wasn't in the mood to greet her.

Work things out? Wizard ex? What the fuck…

Barton let out a short laugh when he heard that crap, then he pressed forward and went about his business. The baby bird had pretty much, like… ZERO interest in working things out, or having any sort of conversation with Victor Strange.

Seriously, a conversation with him? For what? Barton made sure to roll his eyes a ton too as he left the hangar. He dumped off his stuff too, then he started making arrangements to have some sort of video-chat with his older brother in Georgia.

According to Nick Fury, his brother was at a prison called Seagate. Seagate Penitentiary was once a place that Ezekiel Stane called home, but now that psycho-fuck was running his own S.H.I.E.L.D. division.

All of it annoyed the baby bird to no end, and Nick Fury dropped a comment about that shortly after Barton entered his office.

"Seems like that vacation was pointless."

"Weellll, that's what happens when the bullshit's still there when you get back."

Yeah, he was pretty bitter. Barton had a lot on his mind at the moment. He stared at a screen that Fury pulled up, cuz someone at Seagate was patching him through to his brother.

Bernard Barton's face showed up on the screen eventually, and the man gave his baby brother a sharp smile. They definitely had a terrible relationship, but sometimes all of that gets pushed aside when things head south.

"What's up little brother? I'm told you've been wanting to speak to me…"

Bernard was grateful for the heads up back in Milwaukee, and the man didn't hesitate when Clint told him that he needed to leave the warehouse. He tried to fish out some additional details about the slaughter that took place there, but he kept coming up empty handed.

All he knew was everyone there was dead, except him, thanks to the conflicted looking person that was standing before him on a small screen.

His brother saved his life, so a video-chat with him was the least he could do to repay the debt.

"I wanna know what you know about your former boss. I just want to hear anything you have to say about him…"

Did Bernard know that his "boss" was actually Ezekiel Stane? Or was Obadiah Stane at the forefront of all that shit.

How did his brother receive orders? From who? When? The archer told Fury that he needed to hear everything his brother knew before he could ever face the "White Jackal" again.

There were wayyyy too many riddles and questions left for everyone to unpack, and thankfully Fury agreed with all the digging.
