No-One But You (The Zephyr Endeavor)
Chapter 43: Disposable Teens (Part 3)
…
….
"He could have said something to me, or, we could have had a conversation about what he wanted to do.."
…
Steve Rogers was in the elevator heading down, and Tony Stark was standing right beside him. OH, they "COULD" have had a conversation? Really now? Tony wasn't sure a civil conversation between Ezekiel Stane and Captain America could have taken place at all.
…
"I don't agree, Steve. You've been very unapproachable with Rae-Ann, and we both know she's an avoidant person."
…
Ezekiel was an expert at avoiding things that didn't suit his interest. It didn't take much to understand that, and Surveillant Council members had VIP access to the Jackal's mind…
Back on point. Tony did know that Steve was upset about his mother's appearance being used to disguise Ezekiel, but the brunette didn't harbor the same emotions about it.
He sympathized with Steve, but logically he was on Ezekiel's side of the situation. That kept happening more and more, but Tony refused to discuss it.
The two of them left the S.H.I.E.L.D. facility, and Steve looked up when something was suddenly tossed in his direction. Tony tossed him the keys to the car they arrived in, and Steve snatched them up quickly.
…
"I call shotgun. And, you're going with me to Colorado. Right? You can draw the Rocky Mountains, and I'm sure the church I will be notebook worthy."
…
Tony held a playful grin, but Steve seemed unamused with it. There were a number of things on his mind in that moment, and Tony's sudden choice to volunteer himself to S.H.A.D.O.W.'s cause made it to the top of his list.
…
"Tony, of course I'm going."
…
Steve wasn't going to let Tony take off to some super-cult church by himself. The blonde didn't want anyone going in without support, so he planned to go and follow up with the rest of Ezekiel's team.
…
"Do you think they can handle my wedding plans? Cuz, if you're going… then we're definitely planning a wedding."
…
Tony's grin hit even bigger, and he noticed that Captain America's face softened up just a tad. Steve's icy demeanor was warming up like butter, but he was acting otherwise.
Steve didn't respond. He opened the driver's side door and got in. Tony followed suit and he sat down beside him. That moody, broody dude turned on the car and drove, all while Tony contemplated heading to Colorado.
…
"Jarvis? How long would it take us to drive from Brooklyn, New York to Aspen, Colorado if we left right now?"
…
"Sir, it's approximately 2,015 miles from Brooklyn, New York to Aspen, Colorado. It would take you approximately 30 hours of driving time to reach your destination."
…
Groovy. So, a little over a day or two days of travel. Tony liked the sound of that, but he said nothing more at that time. He had Steve to think about, because the blonde was in a completely different headspace.
…
"Jarvis? How cold is it there?"
…
Steve really didn't like cold weather, but he was more than willing to support the cause. He wanted to infiltrate the Church of Human Potential immediately, but he understood that Ezekiel wanted to get everyone ready and on the same page.
…
"Captain Rogers, normal temperatures can range from 0-50 degrees Fahrenheit in Aspen, Colorado. Experts suggest dressing in layers while visiting."
…
That didn't sound too bad, but still, Steve hated getting cold. He glanced over at someone that burned red hot 24/7. The blonde gave Tony a soft smile, and he noted how quiet his little red corvette had become.
