No-One But You (The Zephyr Endeavor) - Part 2
Chapter 7: Maximum Effort (Part 7)
…
"SO you really understand what she's saying? For real?"
…
Clint Barton was high as fuck, and he was trying to follow along with the crazy concert that was going on dead ahead. He couldn't understand a damn thing, but the songs were cool and super catchy.
One song came on and Wade Wilson legit lost his friggennnnn mind man. It looked like he started, crying? It was hard to tell with the mask, but he started doing the dance moves in perfect unison, so the baby bird laughed so hard he almost choked.
Victor Strange actually joined in too. He knew the dance moves as well, so Barton's laugh picked up as they went…
Ezekiel couldn't help but laugh as well, and he made sure he got a video of Wade and Victor dancing to those… insane songs.
One of the songs always seemed to catch Ezekiel's attention. It was called "Believe" and that was the first song Wade shared with him while they were in New Mexico.
The mercenary also told him that he liked to "dedicate" songs to people when he was in a relationship with them, so everything about it began to feel very sentimental.
The song hadn't been performed at that point, but Ezekiel knew it was coming…
Oh, right… he heard the archer ask him a question, so he slowly glanced toward his left. Barton's body language had eased up a lot, thanks to Wade's vape pen, and the Jackal was glad.
It felt like he was seeing the real Clint Barton in that moment. There were rumors going around that he was a hilarious person. Now he was there actually laughing, communicating, and it seemed like his voice was ten times lighter…
…
"Yes. I can understand everything she's singing. This song is about overcoming mistakes, and pain. She sings a lot about the future…"
…
Ezekiel actually enjoyed the words in most of the songs that Wade's shared with him. Oh, and he finally answered the archer's question. The Jackal was surprised to find himself actually standing beside "Agent" Barton in that moment.
They had a very rocky history, but… something must have changed.
The baby archer had a big smile on his face as he kept watching Victor and Wade. They danced all crazy, and Victor looked friggen cute. Honestly, the songs weren't long enough to truly enjoy what was happening.
Barton was beyond happy that he went with his gut and decided to crash their little party. He wanted to, and needed it… because deep down, he didn't like being angry with anyone, so…
The woman up there singing on the stage transitioned to a different song, and the infamous Deadpool lost his mind once again. "Agent" Barton decided to capitalize on that moment and talk to the only person there who wasn't moving.
Again, Ezekiel was affected more by the words. The words and meaning of the song affected him tremendously, so in a way hearing music always made him freeze up. He couldn't dance around like everyone else, so oftentimes he felt very out of place.
…
"Ay. I spoke with my brother this morning. He's leaving Seagate, and I know you're responsible for doing that…so, I'm sorry if I've been an asshole toward you.."
…
The archer spoke over the music, and Ezekiel turned in his direction with a shocked expression. He was responsible for Charles Bernard Barton being removed from prison, but the Jackal wasn't sure how to respond.
He tried to tell the archer that a while ago, but that didn't go so well…
Honestly, the current moment felt very surreal. Perhaps it had something to do with the contents of Wade's vape pen, but Ezekiel wasn't sure how he actually felt.
He took a couple hits of that stuff before the concert as well, and…
…
"OH yeah, and this is coming from Nat, Yelena, Bucky, and me, ok? We've all decided that from now on we'll shield you with all we've got. You can count on us Ezekiel, and you can consider us all a team…"
…
The baby Jackal legit froze up like a statue. He couldn't believe what he heard, and he felt very affected by what was said.
You see, Ezekiel didn't have any siblings, or any sort of warm and fuzzy family bonds that stemmed from people taking care of one another.
A response to what he heard wasn't even built in his vocabulary, so it's safe to say that Ezekiel was experiencing all of those emotions for the first time in his life, and that shit hit him like a ton of bricks…
