Author's Note: My OC is an anthropomorphic Mobian cat named Rosella with pearl white fur and green eyes and shoulder length red hair with a voice same as Jodi Benson's. Anywho, hope you'll enjoy. God Jehovah bless.
Shadow x OC
Shadow the Hedgehog often came to a small coffee shop to drink a mug of hot black brew. It wasn't fancy or crowded, but it was comfortable enough and thankfully quiet, so he appreciated every bit about it.
He was pretty much a regular at the shop. However, though it wasn't very busy, he himself was well-known for working with Sonic the Hedgehog and thwarting the mad scientist Dr. Eggman, saving the world more than once.
So, he had some fans. One was a regular at the coffee shop who had heard all about the black hedgehog and was always quietly ecstatic to see him sitting at the end of the counter that was close to the door.
She made sure not to stare and not bother him or even go near him. It was enough of an honor just to see him.
One day, when she was on her way to the coffee shop again, the town was attacked by Eggman's robots. Everyone fled just like she tried to, but rubble fell in front of her. She shook when she thought it could have landed right on top of her.
A fire hydrant-sized piece of rubble did bump her on the left leg, forcing her to land on her right side. Tears pricked her terrified eyes. She was trapped and helpless!
She braced herself for whatever was going to happen to her before silence fell on the city. She looked to see in the distance all the robots were scrap metal strewn all over the streets.
The one responsible was a certain familiar black hedgehog who had sent a fuming Eggman packing. Rosella watched in awe as she allowed herself to see the dark-furred hero whom she found rather handsome for someone with a dead serious look.
She didn't expect him to turn around to find the red-haired casualty whose position on the ground made his eyes wide before he literally dashed right in front of her.
Up close, she blushed when she took a look at the crimson streaks on his black quills, the same shade of red in his eyes that showed concern at the feline at his feet.
He didn't say anything, though he rarely does, but this time it was because he was checking her, a hint of panic in those strong eyes.
He quietly sighed in relief before he asked her with a voice as deep as she expected it to be. "Are you injured?"
Making herself look sharp, she confirmed, "Yes, my leg got hit by rubble, but not a very big piece. I don't think it's broken, but it hurts to move it."
"Hmm…"
At first, she thought he would just have an ambulance come pick her up, but instead he was the one doing the lifting as he delicately stood behind her to hold her in his arms.
She blushed harder, keeping her face from looking at his. She almost said he didn't have to go through the trouble since she had a cell phone, but she stopped herself and decided to enjoy every minute of this, even if it was a few minutes, or seconds in this case, as he quickly brought her to the town's hospital.
He held onto her at the entrance, the red-haired cat keeping her gaze to the bottom of the hospital's sliding doors that soon enough opened for nurses to bring out a stretcher for her.
After she was placed on it, she smiled gratefully at the town's rescuer. "Thank you, Shadow, very much."
He nodded politely before he went on his way. Rosella grinned when she thought to herself "Here one minute, gone the next".
Despite being stuck in a hospital for a week, her life felt complete. She got to meet and speak to Shadow even if for a short minute.
She blushed as she looked out of her window where she could see the sunset. "He sure was handsome. Hm, wonder why he looked at that worried when he found me on the ground. I guess he's had to experience worse casualties than this."
She felt disturbed and sad at the thought of him going through such a thing. Her ears perked when she heard a knock on her door indicating a nurse had come with a tray of food for her.
Rosella could see from across the door another room whose door was open where she saw a human girl whose features she couldn't see because she was too far away. All the she-cat could see she was ying in a bed with her eyes bandaged.
"Excuse me, nurse? May I ask who that girl is and what's wrong with her eyes?"
"Oh, well, to answer the second question, she was found hurt and unconscious with her eyes badly hurt."
"Unconscious?"
"We don't know what happened to her. In fact, we don't even know how she was brought here. It was like someone found her and dropped her off our doorstep without so much as a note."
"Really? So, what's her name? I mean, did she have a wallet with an ID or photos?"
"That's another mystery, no, she had nothing to inform us who she even is."
"Oh, my." Rosella felt bad for her. Hurt, lost, and with a currently unknown identity, no one could even call a family and friends of hers, assuming she has any. "I hope she regains consciousness soon. Exactly how badly damaged are her eyes, please?"
"Well… it's not written in stone, but if the treatments don't work, she may never see again."
Rosella gripped the covers on her lap, her blood turning cold at the thought of that girl across from her possibly going blind.
During a week in recuperation, she kept regarding the unknown woman, especially when she would see her door open and there she was, no consciousness, no sight, no visitors…
The mystery plagued Rosella even after she was discharged. During her departure from the hospital, she looked over her left shoulder, wondering how she was going to be once she finally came around.
"I didn't see what she even looks like other than she's so young. If nothing else, I hope she'll still have a life to live, sight or no sight."
Rosella was glad to be back to her old routine, especially going back to the coffee shop that morning as her own celebration of being healed. She braced herself in case he would be too busy tracking down Eggman after that attack or something.
She silently cheered to know she was wrong when the hedgehog actually came in at the usual time. She made herself not to expect him to recognize her from last week since he was a busy guy.
However, she was both happy and shy when he did notice her at the corner of his left eye since her white fur did stand out from the dark corner over there.
Wanting to be polite and hopefully start a conversation, she waved her right hand to him. "Hello."
"Well, you've finally recovered."
"Yes, I just got discharged an hour ago. I'm here to celebrate my regained freedom with an ice-cold flavored brew."
"You must love 'partying' here, then, coming every morning," he grinned, closing his eyes before sipping his dark roast.
Rosella congratulated herself for earning a grin which she had never seen him do before. He seemed to wear a solemn look all the time, so that new expression was a rare sighting.
"I must confess, that spot looked very empty without you there."
"Yes, this place is my home away from home," she said, looking with a small smile at her stomping grounds.
Shadow paid for his beverage before going on his way. Duty was calling as usual. Rosella was still thankful. That was the first relaxing change of words in this shop. She didn't expect any more conversations after that, though.
The rest of her day kept going back to that unconscious girl at the hospital. What was going to happen to her and her vision?
She went to bed as she thought of Shadow. As much as she admired him, she knew she was letting this thing go too far. Neither of them knew each other all that well.
A part of her felt a little hurt when she realized he never even asked for her name.
"Forget it. He's got better things than getting acquainted with a common cat," she told herself firmly before pulling the covers to her shoulders, turning in.
Rosella did have herself a pleasant dream of the dark-furred hedgehog bowing gentlemanly to her before offering her a red rose he slipped behind her right ear. Then he stroked his left fingers down her hair, holding a strand in his index finger and thumb.
The blushing feline gasped when he suddenly held her in his arms before he gave her a ride through a field that seemed to go on forever, Shadow grinning the whole time.
She finally woke up, her face red for real as she wiped her hot face. "Oh, wow." She sighed silently before telling her to snap out of it. "You don't know each other. You don't know each other."
Still, seeing him from a distance would always be a treat. In fact, it was time to get around and have another morning brew.
"The only black thing I want instead of dark roast coffee is seein' a black hedgehog drinkin' a dark roast."
