No-One But You (The Zephyr Endeavor)
Chapter 66: We're From America (Part 6)
Sunday Worship began at 10 am, and oh boy was Wade Wilson beyond happy to be there.
He traveled to Texas with the lovely Miss Rae-Ann, and the two of them worked out some details before their arrival. Details like… engagement rings, and then they gathered some "pedestrian" looking outfits.
It took Ezekiel two days to really pull himself together, and he managed to communicate with everyone before they all went to church.
To recap, Steve Rogers and Tony Stark were in Colorado, Natasha Romanov and Bucky Barnes remained in New Mexico, Donna Strange and the other Bucky Barnes were in Nebraska, then that left Yelena Belova and Clint Barton in Ohio.
They all were set and ready to go. Some had an alias worked out, but they all had "engagement" rings to wear on the correct hand. It was officially go time, and Wade couldn't sit still.
He kept looking around the mega-church in Serenity Hills. It was a beautiful church. So much so, Wade was already feeling the power of the Holy Spirit.
He kept glancing down at Rae-Ann. She was sitting all cute and close. She really looked like a delicate young woman, and it was… interesting. A true southern lookin belle, with a fancy silver ring. How funny. Wade's eyes kept skimming over her blouse too, because Ezekiel actually put some effort into the outfit.
…
"Are those real?"
…
Haaaaaaaa… he whispered low and asked if her breasts were the real deal once again, and the mercenary immediately felt an elbow hit his gut. "Rae-Ann" answered by jabbing her elbow just below Wade's ribs.
Deadpool coughed out a laugh, then he rolled his eyes when he heard all that preaching shit once again. How long was the sermon? He flipped through the little booklet for the millionth time.
His eyes stopped wayyyy off toward one of those church booths. The church had "confession" booths? Groovy. The mercenary thought about making a confession, since he was there, and his busy mind started going haywire.
Ezekiel was studying the giant church. They technically didn't need to listen to the sermon. They could have walked in after the service was over, but the Jackal wanted the full experience.
He glanced at Wade off and on, and it felt like they were all "snuggled" up in the church pew. It took an eternity for the service to end, but eventually Wade's sanity was spared….
…
He waited beside Rae-Ann as the church cleared out. That took an eternity too, because the place was packed to the brim.
Some church-goers smiled at them. They waved and asked them if they were new. EEW. Wade gave the old lady a polite smile, and a polite wave too, but that was it.
Rae-Ann did some talking. She said they were interested in the church. They were, church shopping? Was that a thing? Wade just kept his mouth shut as best he could, and he kept an eye on that confession box.
The time finally came for them to talk to either staff, or the preacher. Wade followed Rae-Ann's lead, up until the two of them stepped beside the confession box.
Wade took Ezekiel's hand and he pulled him in. It might have been Rae-Ann's body in that moment, but the mercenary felt like making a clever move on the person within. Wade sat down in that confession box, and the Jackal was quickly pulled in close.
…
"I've always wanted to do this in one of these.."
…
He kissed Rae-Ann, and the gesture was gently returned. Ezekiel wasn't surprised by Wade's behavior at all, but he was hesitant to do anything physical with him when he was in the form of Rae-Ann.
The kiss between them was quiet, and something about it was softer than normal. Wade was trying to take it easy, and he was also trying to kill two birds with one stone in that moment.
…
"Hey, blink twice… if you love me?"
…
That quiet, delicate and gentle moment between them stretched into a suuuuupppperrrr thick silence. Now THAT was unexpected. Ezekiel was definitely thrown off by what Wade said in the booth. The air seemed to tighten up, and his body froze up pretty quickly.
…
Ezekiel eventually blinked…
…
Twice…
…
Then it got really hard to breathe, so the baby Jackal tried to back out of the box. He couldn't believe he was even in it, and it was hard to fathom what happened.
Wade was up and out of the box in an instant, cuz he was pretty in-tune with Ezekiel's behavior. He could tell his clever little "move" caught the Jackal off guard, but so be it.
Hoo hooooooo… the mercenary held a big smile as he took Rae-Ann's hand in his. They approached some church staff as a couple, remember? Then Wade started asking around about the process of getting married.
