No-One But You (The Zephyr Endeavor)
Chapter 68: We're From America (Part 8)

The hardest sell was the "relationship" between Yelena Belova and Clint Barton.

He was still upset with her, and the message she sent Victor Strange was haunting his thoughts to the max. He wanted to talk to Victor in his own way and on his own terms.

The baby archer didn't want to be pushed or pressured into talking to him. Fuck that. He was still working shit out in his mind about what happened, so he didn't appreciate her constantly butting in.

In fact, he sent Victor another message BEFORE he entered the church. He explained that someone else sent that message to him, and he wasn't ready to talk to him at all.

Yelena and Clint squabbled about it for hours, so their vibe was mega off when the two of them sat down in front of someone from the church.

Barton saw a glimpse of Reverend Miller as he entered the small office, so he inwardly told Shrike to keep an eye on her movements.

The technology did as it was told, and it moved in silence over toward one of the large windows. "Shrike" took over the image of a tiny bird, and it simply watched.

Back in the office, Barton and Belova were asked to explain why they wanted to get married. They were offered "premarital counseling" too, just like all the other "couples" who were on this mission, but of course they declined.

The pastor asked them how old they were, and he gave his opinion that he felt they were very young…

He actually said they were a bit "too young" to be getting married, so he tried to plug the counseling bullshit once again. Before the two of them were given their forms to fill out, the pastor asked them if their families knew they were there at the church.

Do any family members know that you're here today? What about any friends or acquaintances? The man asked that kind of shit, and he spoke with such a cordial and friendly tone.

They both said no, as instructed by Ezekiel Stane. You see, the "Church of Human Potential" liked to make sure the mutants they took weren't in direct contact with their families or friends.

The more disconnected from family and friends, the better. That's what the Jackal instructed them to do, and that's exactly what every group of two accomplished before they were given a tour of the church.

After the tour is when they're supposed to be taken downward. That's the process that was mapped out by the leader of S.H.A.D.O.W, and that's exactly what happened to all of them… step by step.

"Rae-Ann" and Wade Wilson were asked to return to the office after the tour, as expected, and they both complied with what was said.

Ezekiel re-entered the room, and he glanced back at the door as it closed behind Wade. They both heard it lock, so they started looking at one another.

Because of the time differences, all five groups went through the same thing at a slightly different pace. Ezekiel knew exactly who was where, and when each couple was taken beneath the surface.

He stepped in a little closer toward Wade, because he knew they were moments away from being pulled apart. The small "office" they were in was actually an elevator, and they were being taken deep below the church right there in that moment.

Wade kept looking around the room. The elevator's movements were pretty quiet. Designed by the person standing in front of him, most likely, so of course the box they were in moved with ease.

The next step was the "suppression" of their mutant powers, so as soon as the office hit the ground level, the room would open up and one of those "Mutant Inhibitor Collars" would be attached to their necks, by force.

Rae-Ann told them all, and she looked into who was where in her mind in that moment. Donna and "James" were already taken below, as well as Clint Barton and Yelena Belova….

Natasha and Bucky Barnes were separated first, because the women and men were put in different areas. They were actually put in different cages, and Ezekiel knew that he was about to be placed in one that was small, and confined.

Steve Rogers and Tony Stark weren't technically separated, and Ezekiel knew that they were going to be the first ones sent to the section that was specific for Weapon X…

He looked at Wade's T-shirt for a long while. He wanted to touch it, and wrinkle it up in his hands, just like someone that he'd observed all his life…

The mercenary picked up both of his hands instead, and he made a joke about somebody actually blinking twice. Wade also said it was going to feel weird not being there right beside him.

Ezekiel felt the same way. His heart started holding water, or something… it felt extra heavy when a group of men entered the room, and they violently forced their hands to part.

Wade had to resist the immediate impulse to butcher them all, and boy oh boy was that haaaaarrrrdddd to do. He watched them snatch up Rae-Ann, and they took her off in a different direction. They were all psycho and rough about it too, so Wade swallowed down his impulses as best he could.

But oh oh ohhhhh, best believe those fuckers were going down. Wade already had big plans for them swimming around in his head…
