No-One But You (The Zephyr Endeavor) - Part 2
Chapter 41: Whatta Man (Part 1)
So, now that the older brother introductions were done and out of the way, Victor Strange and Clint Barton returned to a fancy section of New York that was known as the Tribeca District.
The vibes were very off between them when they stepped through Victor's portal, but the odds were finally in their favor… so that awkwardness wasn't going to last long.
Before they left Seagate, Victor listened in as Nick Fury spoke about S.H.I.E.L.D. owning the property that neighbored the "Barton Farm." Who owned the Barton Farm? Clint Barton said that he purchased his family home shortly after he started working for S.H.I.E.L.D.
Why do we care, and why does that matter? Well, it turns out that Victor's super-friendly boyfriend was a farm-boy too. Victor knew that he was born in Iowa, but he didn't connect the dots that he grew up on a farm with his brother.
It felt good to know that information, for some weird reason. Maybe it made the idea of dating Clint Barton feel, safe? Perhaps Victor felt more, secure?
Well, he wasn't dating an introverted crime lord by any stretch, so… the baby Strange realized that he felt a million times better, and…
…
"Did I miss your birthday? UH, you know, right before Japan I was stuck dealing with something in Asgard, and I lost a ton of time. I think a week went by in an hour, so I don't even know what day it is today."
…
That wasn't the best excuse, but Victor felt bad and he really needed to clear that up. It also felt like they were revamping their relationship on the wrong foot, so he sulked.
The archer was still in the process of moving into the loft space that was all around them, so his focus went straight toward how he wanted the living room to look.
He heard Victor's lengthy explanation tho, so he gave him a tender nod before he responded.
…
"You didn't miss my birthday at all. It happened yesterday, and… I wanted to spend that time with you."
…
There was no need for a big celebration. The archer wasn't into that sort of stuff anyway. Clint Barton's voice was pretty quiet when he answered, but he gave Victor an honest response straight away.
Oh wow, Victor's baby heart ballooned out and honestly it almost burst. A spazz attack took over his soul too after he heard what his super-sweet farm-boy boyfriend had to say. So, he really wanted to spend time with him? Hold up. Victor almost fainted from shock.
He wasn't used to hearing anything like that, because the last person he was with actually told him the exact opposite.
Ezekiel Stane wasn't a warm person, ok? He wasn't a relationship-having type of guy either, and his words were always sharp, deadly, and super cold. Let's just say there was always something off about him….
That crime lord seriousssslllyyy told Victor that he didn't want to be distracted, and Ezekiel technically dumped him right after they reunited and had sex. Oof, that was rough, and that was a long time ago too. Victor inwardly forgave him as soon as it happened, but then came Wade…
SHIT. The baby Strange forced his eyes to close, then he quickly brought his hands up and slapped them over his face. He always always alwayssssss started thinking about his stupid "ex"… but it wasn't in any sort of romantic way.
Victor was processing, and the archer could see that Victor was struggling through what he said.
…
"You wanna help me decorate this place? I've never owned a space like this before, and you've got a cool style, so…"
…
Barton decided to change the subject. The words he used were natural and honest, but Victor wasn't expecting the compliment at all. His baby heart sorta ballooned out again, cuz his cute farm-boy boyfriend thought that HE had a cool style?
Oh, wow, get outta town. Victor Strange stumbled out a goofy response, cuz honestly he was left in a bit of disbelief.
