No-One But You (The Zephyr Endeavor)
Chapter 77: The Beautiful People (Part 7)
The forever somber "White Jackal" could actually see Wade Wilson digging his way through the giant pile of Iron Mongers.
Before The mercenary got there, a handful of the machines tackled Ezekiel down onto the ice, and his protective shell seemed to dissolve and melt away from his skin.
It was a frightening experience, and it caused an unbridled anxiety to build up within Ezekiel Stane. He was no longer holding onto someone's hand as well, because Tony Stark's armor suffered the same fate.
The two of them were just… lying there, or something, and they both were trying to figure why they were suddenly covered with a bright warm light.
Deadpool was so close to their bodies, but obviously the mercenary couldn't see where they were. Ezekiel brought his hand up to the peculiar glow, because he wanted to reach out and touch Wade's armor..
"Sevgili" kept digging for Ezekiel and tossing things around the ice, then the Jackal watched as he started talking to someone. He called Charles Xavier in an obvious panic, and Ezekiel held a soft smile as he listened to everything that he said.
Wade said that he couldn't find "Shiny" anywhere, and the mercenary explained that he didn't know what happened. Tony Stark was watching the scene in front of him too, but his sharp eyes were pointed more in Ezekiel's direction.
After Zephyr ceased to be, Ezekiel lost his hold on the image of "Rae-Ann" as well. That meant Tony was looking directly at Obadiah's baby boy, and like always… he thought about how the young man looked.
Ezekiel had his father's good traits. Tony believed it and he told himself that all the time…
Well, in that moment, Tony thought he looked more or less like a "smitten kitten," and his affection for Wade Wilson was beyond obvious. He stopped looking when the baby Jackal caught onto all the staring, then Tony started talking about what was surrounding them…
…
"I'm going to guess this is a force field, since that's something your invisible man uses all the time."
…
Again with the invisible man comments. Ezekiel's eyebrows tightened up after Tony spoke up. The Jackal actually hated guessing games, and he hated the feeling of being out of the loop.
His eyes were still on Wade in that moment. He deeply regretted the silent state he fell into, because he knew the mercenary was worried, and hellbent on keeping him safe.
Was he actually, safe? Ezekiel wasn't sure at all. He couldn't feel the presence of Zephyr in any shape or form, so that alone was making his emotions stir…
He also couldn't communicate with Wade from where he was, and his hands couldn't go any further than the glow that was right in front of him. It was almost as if they were inside an, orb?
At first glance, the energy behaved like a force field, so the Jackal looked in Tony's direction and congratulated him on potentially being right.
…
"Congratulations on your theories and vague statements. I can always count on you to give me at least half of the information…"
…
And IF he received a mere half of anything out of Tony Stark, then Ezekiel expected that half to be vague as well….
Tony took that cold little dish of sarcasm with pride. He didn't owe Obadiah's offspring a damn thing, and now everything he recently discovered about Ezekiel Stane and his "invisible man" was crystal clear.
THEY could have been father and son.
Seriously. OH the arrogance, the sophistication, the language, and OH the somber mannerisms. They were borderline identical. Tony was kinda freaking out about it, cuz after he put it all together, everything made perfect sense…
…
"Your real boss is doing this, and it's going to blow your friggen mind. I don't know how this is going to go, but if you genuinely don't know what I'm talking about then this is going to be…. this is gunna be some kind of trip."
…
Ezekiel had to glare at Tony Stark after that ridiculous comment. The vagueness of what he said was annoying. The Jackal was determined to operate without the notion of having any sort of "boss."
His mind, body, and soul was his own. He worked for no one, and he also wasn't a "copycat," as some would believe…. Ezekiel didn't like what the other inventor said to him at all, so he roughly turned his focus away from him.
Something happened as soon as Ezekiel turned his focus away. The energy around them quickly relocated, and the Jackal watched as something latched itself onto his wrists.
It latched tight over his skin, like handcuffs, so he inwardly freaked out. Ezekiel hated the notion of being handcuffed, chained, or locked up in any shape or form, so he started doing everything he could to pry his hands free.
