No-One But You (The Zephyr Endeavor)
Chapter 90: Sunshine (Part 10)
When we last checked in with Victor Strange, he devoted some time toward taking a break and getting his shit together, but the baby Strange also had to fold and ask for help along the way.
He asked for a guide, if you recall, and everybody needs a little bit of help sometimes. Victor was no exception. The self-declared "Mystic Consultant" considered himself to be beyond help for a long time, but the selection of his "guide" was currently underway.
The walls of the meditation chamber were always jade green, but the colors sometimes altered with the sequence of the person's focus.
Victor couldn't focus for shit or decide on a guide, because it felt like he'd already disappointed everyone that he could think of.
He tried NOT putting himself down for once, and he asked the room around him to pick a guide for him. You can call it a submission to the "higher powers that be" if you want, but Victor Strange went with that approach and kept his eyes closed.
It took an eternity for his "guide" to be revealed, but a decision settled eventually, and a calm feeling slowly eased over Victor's broken soul.
It was a friggen no brainer. Victor almost laughed, but then he almost cried… because the person meant to "guide" him made perfect sense.
He saw his father there on the family porch, so the newly appointed Sorcerer Supreme stopped "existing" for a while in order to spend some time with him.
Victor looked around the family home first, and he noticed things that he didn't catch before. He saw a barrier around the home, a protective one, and it was sealed with energy that belonged to his older brother and sister.
Donna and Stephen were always thinking ahead. Someone told that to Victor a while ago, but now he could see…
His father was looking out at the lake, like always, but he noticed that his youngest child had stopped by once again.
It had been a while since the two of them spoke alone, but the father of three remembered their last conversation with ease. Eugene Strange stood up from the old wooden porch swing, and he started walking over toward his baby boy…
…
"You lost Vic?"
…
Lost? Huuyeah. That was an understatement. Victor let out a goofy laugh. His laugh was quiet tho, and he felt a little more than awkward about it.
He focused on his father's question, then his mind started hearing soft sounds that were happening around him there on the porch. He heard his mother doing something toward his right. She was sweeping the rug, or something. Keeping busy.
…
"I'm very lost, father. I feel like I'm going nowhere, but I also can't seem to keep up."
…
That was the long and short of it. Victor wasn't proud to admit any of that to his father, but the words went as they did, and he watched the man take another look out toward the water.
His father always towered… like a tree, and the sight made Victor fix his slouch.
