No-One But You (The Zephyr Endeavor) - Part 2
Chapter 66: No Regrets, Coyote(Part 6)
…
Whoa there tiger…
…
Steve Rogers reaaaalllyyy didn't expect to hear his Little Red Corvette suddenly invite Ezekiel Stane and Wade Wilson up to their apartment, but he did, so… the blonde just rolled with it.
Tony Stark was still pretty quiet about it too, but he led the group through the lobby, to the elevator, and up to their private floor.
Steve unlocked the door when they finally approached, and he always took a second to look over and see if Bucky Barnes was around. His best friend had been pretty MIA since they last saw one another, but that notion was routine.
…
"Oh, now this is cute… and it smells so lovely in here. The design screams modern techno-chic meets genteel art history major, with a splash from the past and the future, ranging from the 1930s all the way up to the 2050s…"
…
Say… what now? Noooobody responded to Wade's description of Steve and Tony's adorable apartment. The mercenary made his way into the open space as soon as the door was open, and Ezekiel watched him spin around and touch everything in sight. His mood seemed, better … but, you never really know for sure with Wade.
He said silly things to hide how he really felt, and the baby Jackal couldn't help but silently stare at him. Being in that apartment was something to process for sure, but Ezekiel didn't want to focus on that.
Tony said they could talk it out, but it seemed like Wade had removed himself from the situation entirely. He barely looked in Ezekiel's direction too, and that was also something for the baby Jackal to process.
…
Steve Rogers closed the door and removed his jacket and shoes. That behavior was beyond routine for the both of them, and Ezekiel was expecting to hear them drop their keys in a bowl by the door.
Tony and Steve did everything as expected, but the Jackal refused to turn back and look. His focus was glued to Wade and nothing else, but the gesture wasn't necessarily returned or received.
…
Being in a "relationship" was one of the hardest challenges Ezekiel Stane had ever had to face. He wasn't dreading it at all, but, right then… he thought about wanting things go back to normal.
He felt somewhat "normal" earlier, when he entered the delicatessen and simply ate the food. That was something he planned to explain to Victor Von Doom as well, but the time definitely wasn't right for him to do that.
…
"Anyone else want a drink? I need one for sure…"
…
Tony Stark's voice cut through the void once again, and Ezekiel finally looked in his direction after the other inventor offered to pour them all a drink.
Stark's had a habit of turning to alcohol in order to self soothe, and Wade Wilson was no different. The mercenary playfully responded to Tony, and he told him that he'd been dying to get a drink from him for a long time.
The notion of acceptance was a key thing with Wade. Ezekiel was taking notes on his behavior, and he already figured out that the merc needed to feel included, validated, and loved.
…
"I'll take one too Tony…it's been an interesting week."
…
Steve Rogers was an expert at softening the mood. He tagged along with Tony in an unexpected way, but Ezekiel was smart enough to understand what they were doing.
They were trying to make Wade Wilson comfortable, and they managed to calm him down in a record breaking fashion. Wade started asking questions about Tony's favorite brands of alcohol, but the brunette only responded with a sly smile.
…
"I'm gunna take this and head off to the shower. We have a guest bedroom…. and you two can talk this out there."
…
Steve Rogers could take it from there too, cuz Tony felt officially done with the whole ordeal. Those two could hash it out all the way across the apartment, but Tony politely refused to involve himself any further.
He gave Steve a gentle look before he removed himself from the scene, and the blonde watched him walk away and head into their bedroom.
They had stuff to work out as well, and Steve reflected on that for a short while. Captain America pointed toward his right, then he started walking toward the guest area of their happy little home.
Wade was drinking down his share of Tony's alcohol when someone mentioned the guest bedroom, and truthfully speaking, the mercenary almost choked. The alcohol made it up his nose somehow too, and that shit burned his soul like you wouldn't believe.
Aww, fuck. The thought of talking shit out was ….
…
Ezekiel already knew where the guest bedroom was, so he quietly followed after Steve and welcomed himself in. Wade was fumbling around with something before he entered the room, and the blonde politely told them that he was there if they needed anything.
It was just a safe quiet space to talk, argue… or whatever. Ezekiel understood what was happening and he was inwardly grateful for the gesture.
It felt better for him to discuss Victor Von Doom in that type of setting, instead of screaming things and battling with Wade out there on the street.
It seemed like they were already in some sort of "Battleworld"… and Ezekiel didn't want things to be that way at all. Perhaps he lacked a sense of how their relationship would operate in the future… and maybe that's why it was beyond difficult to maintain it now in the present.
…
The door was gently closed at some point, and Ezekiel took in a deep breath before he turned back around and looked at Wade Wilson.
The mercenary was touching something, as expected, but he stopped and tried to find a place to set his empty glass. He drank the liquor way too quickly, so Ezekiel did him a favor and he took the distracting item out of his hands…
…
"Soooo, Tony certainly rules the roost. Do you know what that means? To… rule the roost?"
…
Wade wasn't sure if Ezekiel had heard the old saying, and life on the farm seemed a bit beneath him as well. Ugh, the silence was absolutely killinggggg the energetic mercenary, and thoughts of getting revenge and murdering someone was still fresh on his mind.
…
"You're saying he's the top chicken in this apartment. I might be a rich, talented, spoiled brat…but I know about chickens roosting, Wade…"
…
How funny. Ezekiel couldn't help but let out a quiet laugh. He playfully rolled his eyes too, then he caught a glimpse of Wade's charming smile.
The Jackal was bound and determined to get through this terrible moment. Wade Wilson meant way too much for him to fail, so he took a moment to take in another deep breath.
