No-One But You (The Zephyr Endeavor) - Part 2
Chapter 74: Battleworld (Part 4)
…
"So, I'll ask you again… what does calling yourself Briseis actually accomplish?"
…
What does that accomplish? Does it have to "accomplish" anything?
Ezekiel pondered that thought for a good while, because he was bound and determined to find some common ground on the subject.
The baby Jackal wanted Doom to warm up to the infamous Deadpool in some sense, but outside that… he was fully dedicated to Wade Wilson, with or without anyone's approval.
…
"Calling myself Briseis is my way of clarifying who's side I'm on. Wade's imperfect, but he'll grow on you…In fact, the two of you toe the same line in a lot of ways. You both have accomplished some sense of freedom, and you both have a strong resistance to conformity…"
…
Ezekiel admired them both in a lot of ways. He was learning so much, and adapting to things that he's observed from some of the best. Charles Xavier was the perfect example. Ezekiel was glad to know him, and discussing things with him truly helped him feel more connected…
Wow, and then there's Steve Rogers… he was the ideal mentor, oh, and Tony Stark was the hardest one to learn from.
Behavior issues set aside, Stark was always there for him when the time was right. Ezekiel could look back in that moment and recall many conversations with him. They spoke once about energy, fireflies, and now they've discussed something as complex as being honest.
The baby Jackal felt more grounded, stable…and he didn't think Wade's presence hindered that progress at all.
…
Doom studied the look on Ezekiel Stane's young face. He picked up on his thoughts as well, and he wondered if he was expected to move. Was someone's "quiet coyote" trying to move him with those amusing emotions? Was it a call to action? Doom wondered.
The baby Jackal made his move on the chessboard as well, so the ruler of Latveria took a moment to study his play.
Ezekiel tried to appeal to him by saying he was somehow on the same level as his filthy brute. They both behaved in a manner that resembled anarchy, that's true, but Doom would not be put in the same boat.
…
"Your gutter rat's portrayal of freedom is obviously tempting you and blinding your judgement, but it's nothing but a charade. That man is a lust-filled mess, and I plan to give him a taste of his own medicine."
…
Tomorrow. Doom planned to participate in the hand to hand combat portion of his event, and he expected Wade Wilson to show up like a fool and face him in front of everyone.
Facing the infamous Deadpool in that context amused Doom to the core. He thought it was perfect, very fitting, and the perfect way for him to SHUT that loud mouth up for good.
…
Doom moved his chess piece after some time, and Ezekiel's eyebrow arched at the thought of Wade getting a "taste" of his own medicine.
That meant, what exactly? Lol. The baby Jackal had to laugh a little as well, because this thing with Doom and Wade was starting to amuse him more than it should.
Doom was too serious, and he knew that Wade was going through some sort of "process" in order to face him, and all of it was just cracking Ezekiel up…
He chuckled a little, then he just quietly shrugged up his shoulders. Things would be sooooooo great if they all just got along, but dysfunction prevailed… and it wasn't in the cards at this point…
