No-One But You (The Zephyr Endeavor) - Part 2

Chapter 81: Dirthouse (Part 1)

Ohhhhh boy. Here we go.

Steve Rogers was playing a simple role there in Latverion. He was behaving as a spectator, or a bystander to the event. He wasn't disguising himself in any way, but the blonde was adamant about keeping a low profile while he looked around the giant crowd.

His trust level with Victor Von Doom was pretty null and void, mainly because of Doom's bold resistance towards Ezekiel Stane's Surveillant Council. Doom was clearly trying to undermine it, and he seemed dead-set on challenging the members of that Council at every turn.

Everyone who was anyone had eyes on Doom's random behavior, and the Council was definitely paying attention to details tagging along with every move the man decided to make. One of those "moves" was gathering everyone in one location. That wasn't necessarily suspicious…but still… it kinda was.

His second move had to do with Ezekiel's mental state. Doom was communicating with him behind the scenes, and telling him things that more or less undermined his relationship with Wade Wilson. The Council was keeping their eyes on that as well, but now we find ourselves diving into another random move conducted by Victor Von Doom.

Challenging Wade Wilson was expected. Those two had been clashing and squabbling with one another since the moment they met. The infamous Deadpool held a strong belief that Doom was trying to seduce his "quiet coyote"…and Wade's insecurities around that were obviously being exploited.

Doom's intentions behind challenging Wade weren't as crystal clear.

He could simply ignore the mercenary, but something was telling Steve that Doom's actions were personal. Now, were his actions personal because of Ezekiel Stane? Were they personal because Wade Wilson annoyed him? Were they personal because… uhhh… who knew?

Oh, and let's not forget… Steve Rogers happened to know that Victor Von Doom could kill Deadpool in a heartbeat. He could actually kill the mercenary and wipe his entire existence straight off the map. Steve knew that for a friggen fact, and that was another reason why he was in a very protective mood.

He was standing directly beside Clea Strange as well, just in case.

The blonde felt protective of her, Sofia Strange, Tony, Wade, and even the person who was standing in total silence up at the top of the crowd. Ezekiel Stane hadn't spoken a single word that day. He ventured to Battleworld on his own and it was almost as if he'd woken up IN a mental coma of some sort.

Charles Xavier was onto that behavior like you wouldn't believe, and he was updating Steve as the day progressed. Ezekiel was definitely living up to being called a "quiet coyote" and Xavier was telling Steve that he expected that behavior to increase.

His sudden silence was connected directly to Wade Wilson's upcoming battle royale with Doom, and Steve had a theory on that.

The mercenary answered Doom's call for battle, and Steve drew in a deep breath when the man made it down to the pit. Deadpool seemed more than eager to face his opponent, and that kinda made things worse. Wade was a stubborn man, and Ezekiel's soul went silent, because he deeply understood the odds.

Facing Victor Von Doom in open combat like that was borderline suicidal, so… in baseball talk, it was hard for Steve Rogers to watch Wade step up to that plate. It was painful to watch, actually, because the outcome didn't look good for someone who was there to support Wade.

Steve glanced over at Tony as soon as Doom and Deadpool began their little chat down below, cuz they were up in the nosebleed seats… and shit it was hard to hear what the two of them started saying.
