No-One But You (The Zephyr Endeavor) - Part 2
Chapter 94: Prince of Darkness (Part 4)
…
Anyone who thought Ezekiel Stane was just up and about, making more tech, was insane.
Tony Stark could be considered insane with that notion folks, because Ezekiel's body gave out the moment he buried himself beneath the covers of Wade Wilson's bed.
The blankets were bulky, heavy, and comfortable. Ezekiel dozed off right away, and he never had any trouble sleeping at Wade's place.
Perhaps that's why he stayed there for so long after they first hooked up. The baby Jackal hadn't acknowledged this yet, but he could sleep there with ease because it's where he felt the most secure.
He felt safe there, in that messy home, and he felt even more protected on that bed. Ezekiel fell asleep almost immediately…and who knows how long the young man slept.
…
"You are an obnoxiousgutter ratpest. I can't wait to end you and spare everyone from hearing your MOUTH."
…
His mind wandered back to the battle against Victor Von Doom and "Deadpool", and he eventually started dreaming about what he witnessed down in the pit. The details of what happened were crystal clear… and they haunted Ezekiel to the core.
…
"Wow. You're one to talk. I've done my homework on you, DOOM, and on top of youNOTbeing an actual doctor… you're a born and raised piece of gypsy gutter trash."
…
Wade calling Doom "gypsy gutter trash" pretty much sealed his fate. Ezekiel knew this without even seeing the expression on Doom's face.
He also knew that Doom would have taken that comment as a betrayal. Ezekiel helped Wade prepare for that fight in every aspect, and that included mentally undermining his opponent.
Referring to Victor Von Doom as gypsy trash was the only way Ezekiel knew how to mentally affect him, because Doom was protective of the way he grew up.
That information was shared with him years ago, but, in the end… Ezekiel decided to use it against him and give Wade an advantage.
The gesture was shady as hell, but Ezekiel didn't necessarily care.
…
"So,gypsy trash… you got anything smart to say before I gouge your fucking eyes out?"
…
Ezekiel's dream was beginning to affect his sleep. He stirred around on that bed for quite some time, then his eyes opened the instant Doom and Deadpool's fight began again in his dream.
All of it was haunting his baby soul, and his face and body started melting beneath the blankets.
The "quiet coyote" also started feeling a little hungry, and he couldn't remember the last time he ate something. It had been a while… and…
An idea about starving himself to death suddenly crossed Ezekiel's mind as he slowly sat up on Wade's bulky bed. He hugged his arms over his legs and thought over how awful that would be.
What a drawn out, exhausting, and terrible way to go, but still… that was one way to join the mercenary, in hell.
There were other ways he could join Wade in hell, but… Ezekiel swallowed down a few of those thoughts, then he forced himself to head out toward the kitchen.
…
It felt like a train had hit his body. Everything felt sore… oh, his mind, body, and heart were suffering for sure. It all felt demolished.
Ezekiel could barely focus as well, but he made it to the kitchen at a super slow pace. Now, Wade's home had a pretty simple layout.
The Jackal could actually see the front door to the home from the refrigerator in the kitchen. That detail only mattered after Ezekiel pawed around the contents of the "fridge".
He settled on some orange juice, because it was supposedly made from real oranges…
So, he brought the jug of juice out of the fridge, and that's when the detail about seeing the front door actually mattered. Ezekiel almost screamed when he saw that front door, because an innocent bystander was standing on the opposite side of it.
There was a man delivering mail, and he simply pushed a set of envelopes through the slot in the door and left. That's all he did, and Ezekiel friggen freaked.
He gasped so loud, and he actually dropped the jug of orange juice all over the floor.
It startled him. Frightened him, actually… because the baby Jackal didn't have "mail". He definitely didn't have any mail hand delivered, by a person… so the sudden presence of another human being was unexpected and very UNWELCOME…
Ezekiel almost had a heart attack, and it took him a while to react to the giant mess he made by the fridge. He just… couldn't function, and it sucked.
…
Oh, he cleaned the mess as best he could, but he kept looking over at what was hand delivered the entire time. Ezekiel eventually made his way over to the front door, then he stared down at the small pile of envelopes.
This was just basic shit, but it was so far removed and nonexistent in Ezekiel's mind. Opening mail and receiving mail was shit his father dealt with.
Ezekiel had never personally death with the United States Postal Service in such a manner…
Sooooo, he kept looking at the mail, and he eventually picked up what was delivered. The first envelope said FINAL NOTICE… in bright bold letters.
Ezekiel Stane was actually looking at a stack of unpaid bills, then his eyes wandered toward his right and he noticed where Wade would always toss things that didn't matter to him.
There was a GIANT PILE of discarded mail, so Ezekiel's baby eyebrows began to tighten up. Wade's "bills" were towering over most of his space…and that sorta sparked something within Ezekiel to start digging…
Yeah, Ezekiel tossed those…peasant papers… in the discard pile, then he whipped up a semi-large screen. He started digging into WADE'S financial matters, and it didn't take him long to realize that the mercenary was extremely bad with money.
Oof, Wade. Really? The guy seemed to have a negative income, AND he was about to have his power shut off and lose his home.
Good grief. Ezekiel made a shift in that moment for sure, and he started working his techie magic on a number of those bills.
The Jackal absentmindedly made his way back to Wade's bulky bed… then he started silently moving money around from place to place.
