A/N:Hey there dudes and dudettes! KTR coming back with another side project as this story was an interesting what if that me and my friends were talking about. As you can see in the category it's a MHA and Batman crossover, but this is more of a focus on one of my favorite characters in the DC Universe: Red Hood. That's right! We're throwing Jason Todd into the quirky society of heroes and seeing how the red hood gets the job done, becoming the lethal protector! I'll talk about more of the changes with the story down below after the chapter, so grab a snack and some good water and enjoy the story! Please feel free to leave any comments and once again thank you guys for whatever support you can give, I can take all types of criticism, gotta get better somehow! Now without further ado, let's get it!

Disclaimer: I don't own anything from My Hero Academia or from DC comics, all those belong to the great minds that were able to put their passion to paper and make wonderful stories. All I do own is the story that you're currently reading.

Chapter 1: A Ghost From The Past

(Musutafu, 2300 hours)

Shouta Aizawa was finally rid of his bandages after the whole USJ incident with the villains and a few days after the UA sports festival. Recovery Girl was adamant that even with the bandages off, Aizawa still needed to get some rest and let the wounds fully heal. Aizawa being Aizawa, ignored the need for more rest and decided to pick back up his patrolling as the underground hero knows that every minute away from his nightly patrols is another life that is in harm's way from the perpetrators of injustice. Aizawa had recently stopped a mugging and left the villain tied up in capture tape, waiting for the police to arrive since he signaled them to pick up the mugger.

As soon as the officers arrived on the scene, one of them went to collect the criminal while the other one went to go talk to the red-eyed hero, "Eraserhead," the officer grabbed Aizawa's attention as he continued to speak, "Detective Tsukauchi requires your assistance at one of the warehouses by the docks. Something big went down and he needs your eye on it."

Aizawa nodded in response to the officer's request, "I'll tell him I'm on my way," Aizawa responded as he then started to make his way towards the docks, wondering what kind of incident went down the warehouse. Last time Aizawa checked, there was a case being built around the yakuza and one of the warehouses in that district were owned by them, so he was curious as to if it was a failed raid or something more.

(Docks Warehouse)

Shouta arrived on the scene and was greeted by the flashing lights coming from the patrol cars of the police and from the ambulance truck as well. As he got closer to the crime scene he saw they forensics was already on the scene with the yellow tape surrounding the premise, within it there were around 4 bodies that were already covered up out in front of the warehouse entrance and forensics went deeper into the warehouse to see the rest of the damage.

Aizawa found Detective talking to some of the forensic team right by the ambulance and started to make his way towards him to greet him, "Detective Tsukauchi," Aizawa said with his monotone voice, "What's the situation here?" Aizawa questioned as he shook Naomasa's hand as they both started to make their way to the door leading into the warehouse.

Detective Tsukauchi responded with a grim look on his face, " We got reports of gunshots around an hour ago, as you can see from the bodies outside the scene inside isn't going to be pretty," Tsukauchi stated as they were at the front of the closed door. Tsukauchi put his hand on the door and paused for second before speaking, " Even if they are criminals, what happened in this warehouse was a pointless massacre," the detective stated as he then opened the door so that both men could step through.

Now being a pro hero for almost two decades Aizawa has seen it all, especially when you count the fact that he's also an underground hero as well, meaning that he's seen the worst of the worst. Aizawa dealt with serial killers, rapists, organized crime hits and many more. At a certain point it makes you numb to how low a human being can stoop to when causing such harmful acts on others, which in turn motivates him to keep being the underground hero since most of the real crimes are the ones that aren't the latest wack job of the week being handle by heroes like All Might and Endeavour. However, stepping through the door and entering the warehouse, Aizawa was mildly surprised by the scene in front of him and would say that Naomasa's words rang true. "Looks like it's gonna be another all nighter for me," Aizawa muttered with annoyance in his voice as he took the picture.

The warehouse was in complete disarray as at least 15 bodies were scattered around, and that was just all on the first floor. Aizawa saw multiple bodies with gunshot wounds that were directed with elite and lethal precision, as most of them have one or two bullet holes in them, indicating whomever the killer was had some sort of military like expertise in firearms. Some of the other bodies that Aizawa saw were littered with shurikens and others that had their necks snapped with extreme force. Bullet shells and bullet holes were scattered around the area and remnants of a flash bang was already found on a floor that was marked for evidence.

As Aizawa and Detective Tsukauchi walked around looking at the aftermath of this incident, Aizawa saw an open crate that had the infamous drug that was recently on the streets of Musutafu: Trigger. Aizawa grabbed Tsukauchi's attention as he showed the man the crate full of drugs, " Well with this we can rule out that it was a drug deal gone wrong or an organized raid from another gang. Who would leave all these crates of trigger and not try to spin a profit off of it?" Aizawa questioned as a common rule with all who were in organized crime knew that if whatever you did doesn't help make you money, it's seen as pointless and a waste of energy.

"Well that changes things, if it isn't another gang who executed the hit then it could only be one other option…" Tsukauchi responded as he looked at Aizawa with worry in his face as Aizawa nodded and understood what he was going to say.

"A vigilante, and a lethal one at that too. Jeez this is troublesome" Aizawa finished as he looked up at the warehouse ceiling to see the skylight was shattered, meaning that whoever did this started the confrontation from above. 'Most of the vigilantes nowadays are non-lethal for the most part. Last time I saw this amount of violence from a vigilante or pro was Lady Nagant, and it's almost impossible to acquire guns in Japan, looks like we got a new problem on top of all the other ones' Aizawa thought to himself as more issues are seeming to arise so suddenly at the same time.

Just as soon as they made the revelation that there was a lethal vigilante now in the city, they heard the rush of footsteps coming down the stairs as both men turned around to see an officer who frantically made his way to the pair. The officer had a look of urgency as he stopped in front of the detective and pro hero, "Eraserhead! Detective! We found a security guard upstairs hiding in the office, it seems that he was here during the shootout!" The officer exclaimed.

This generated a reaction of surprise from both Aizawa and Tsukauchi as they both wondered how lucky the security guard was to be able to avoid the onslaught, but for them to have someone who was a witness to the it as well. The duo looked at each other and nodded before they looked back at the officer, "Lead the way," Tsukauchi told him as they followed him up the stairs to the office.

When they entered the office they looked to the desk where they saw the security guard which was a young man who looked to be around 25, had a look of someone who saw demon as he was shaking hiding under the desk. "Found him just like this, I think he's so rattle from what he saw he's afraid of coming out even though we told him that the killer isn't in the area," the officer explained.

Detective Tsukauchi got closer to the security guard and proceeded to try an calm him down so he could get any sort of information on what he saw tonight, "Hello I'm Detective Tsukauchi, your in a safe space right now so don't worry about anyone coming after you. What's your name?" Tsukauchi asked the guard.

"…Jun" The security guard now known as Jun responded.

"Alright Jun, could you tell me what happened in here, did you see the person who did it?" The detective questioned Jun.

"…I was walking around the premise when I started to here noise in the warehouse. I took the entrance from the stairs outside that lead into the office, luckily I had the key and got in through that way. When I got in I saw the yakuza members loading up the drugs and stealing anew shipment of the drug stuff. As soon as I was gonna leave to report it, something broke threw the skylight and caused smoke to spread out the area. Then the next thing I knew I heard a loud bang and those'd gang members started to scream when I saw someone with a red helmet on drop from the roof. You should've seen it man, he was like a demon, gunning them down and throwing those ninja stars at them! He was moving around like a ghost, dodging all their shots and attacks like he knew what was happening, almost moved like an acrobat or gymnast throught the whole building I've never seen one man do this by himself!" Jun ranted.

As they were talking, both the officer and Detective saw the slight reaction from Aizawa as his eyes widen just enough to cause some intrigue form in both of the law enforcement officers minds. Tsukauchi directed the officer to take the man to the ambulance while him and Aizawa discuss the information they gathered.

"So," Detective Tsukauchi signed before getting straight to the point with Aizawa as he turned to face him, "Wanna tell me what your reaction was all about? You know who the vigilante is?" Tsukauchi questioned.

Aizawa being Aizawa, kept his cool and composed look as he responded to the detective, "Nothing much, just listening to the guards story and taking in all of the facts. The vigilante's quirk is probably based around his athleticism, giving me a few ideas where to start our search for him," Aizawa stated as he made his way to the door of the office before stopping, "I'll keep you updated on anything I find," we're the last words Aizawa left Tsukauchi with before opening the door and making his way down the stairs outside.

As Aizawa felt the cool air of the night hit his face, he couldn't help but worry as his thoughts were leading to him think about old memories. Painful, old memories from the words coming from the security guard when describing the vigilante. His movement and reflexes reminded Shota of one of his biggest failures in his life, one that has jaded the man and make him more into the cynical underground hero he is today.

"When I'm up on the rooftops and looking down at the city at night, I look at all the hustle and bustle going around and seeing how alive it is. All those lives down there trying to make it day by day, going to work or going back home, makes it feel like they're stuck in a ground cycle to repeat each day. That's why I like it up here, I feel unchained from being grounded by reality. The will to make sure that those people get to continue living life and to protect those who can't protect themselves. When I'm up here I feel empowered, I feel free. Do you feel the same way, Aizawa-sensei?"

Aizawa shook his head trying to dispel the thought from his head. It was highly irrational and unlikely that it would be him, he's been gone for a long time and there are tons of people with quirks and abilities similar to his. He's disappointed in himself that he would even try to associate this mess with him, not after the last time he saw his body.

Aizawa pulled out his phone as he saw the time which induced a groan of frustration as he saw that it was getting closer and closer to the early morning, meaning he would have to go to his day job as a Teacher at UA. This would have to wait until after school ended for the day, which prompted aizawa to mark his way back to his apartment to feed his cats and make some coffee.

(Musutafu Diner)

In another part of the city at the same time the investigation of the warehouse, commotion and trouble arises somewhere else. A young lady named Aiko just finished a 12 hour shift at a diner. She walks with a brisk pace because she needs to get all the sleep she can so that she's able to take her five year-old to school in the morning and be able to attend her classes in the morning soon after dropping him off. As she makes her way home, she realizes that the alleyway on her right is a shortcut that will cut her arrival time down and decides to take it. What she doesn't realize is that there's a man in all black who was following her from a distance.

Aiko realizes that she hears the sound of footsteps that were rapidly approaching her, which causes her to look behind and see the man in all black making his way towards her. Aiko starts to quicken her pace until it turns into a full blown dash with the man chasing after her, unfortunately she steps on an uneven piece of asphalt and falls leading to the man catching up to Aiko and grabbing her.

"No! Let get of me! GET OFF!" Aiko screamed with utter panic as the terror set in that this man was trying to take off her coat and do God knows what.

"Shut up bitch!" The criminal said as he slapped Aiko and kept trying to take over her coat, managing to undo the buttons. Aiko screams could still be heard but it seems as if no one was going to do anything.

Just as soon as Aiko was sending a prayer above to get someone or something to help save her, avgunshot rings out and a cry of pain coke came it from the hooded man. Aiko looked at the direction where the shot came from and saw a figure in the shadows who was slowly making their way to Aiko and her assailant.

Her savior was a who was clad in an semi armored setup. Aiko's eyes stared at his charcoal combat pants and boots that were covered by some greaves made sure to protect his legs past the knee. He was also wearing black gloves that looked to be military standard while also having some vambraces on his forearms, and wore a semi-armored top which had a strange red symbol on the chest part, that was under a chestnut brown leather jacket. To finish the stranger's ensemble, he had a crimson helmet that had these menacing white eyes that had a subtle glow to them.

The man in black was still on the ground withering in pain from his leg, he managed to gather some strength to raise his head up to look at the man who shot him, "Argghh! Who the fuck are you?!" the hooded man exclaimed.

The red helmeted man made his way to the leg of the hooded man and decided to inflict more pain on him as he stomped and held his foot on the bullet wound in the man's leg, who let out screams of agony as the pain was double with the pressure, "Just a guy who's doing his daily service to rid the world of scum just like you" came out a menacing voice that was definitely modulated through the helmet. The Vigilante looked to Aiko and spoke, "Go ahead and get outta here. Make sure to stick to the main streets to avoid filth like this," the vigilante stated as Aiko got up and fixed her coat.

"Who are you?" Aiko said as he wanted to know the man who saved her. The leather clad vigilante turned his head away from her as he stayed quiet for a second before giving her an answer.

"…A monster who hunts other monsters," he finished as he turned to face her.

Aiko gave him a quick thank you before she started to make her way back to the Main Streets and make her trek back home, leaving just the hooded criminal and vigilante. The Vigilante cocked the chamber on his gun, signifying that time was up for the wounded scum. "No! Please wait, wait, wait! Take me to jail please, WAI-"

As Aiko made her way she heard a loud bang as saw the flash of light on the dark walls of the buildings, indicating that her assailant's life was snuffed out by the vigilante. Most would be horrified and disgusted at seeing the death when the threat was neutralized, but Aiko was able to make it back to her baby boy because of the vigilante so she thought that the hooded man earned everything that happened to him.

(UA Class 1A classroom 0700 hours)

School was back in session after the short break that was given to the students because of the UA Sports Festival and Class 1A was back into the swing of normalcy as conversation and chatting were going on in homeroom. Students like Mina Ashido and Toru Hagakure were talking about the latest gossip that they heard about students in the school. Others like Katuski

Bakugo and Shoto Todoroki were keeping quiet with a annoyance with all of the chatter going on right now. The topic on hand for most was about how much attention they received because of the UA Sports Festival.

One student however, was concerned with the news that he got this weekend. It was Class 1A's cinnamon roll known as Izuku Midorya, who was secretly the ninth holder of legacy quirk known as One For All and the successor to the number one hero in all of Japan, All Might. Izuku had kept up with the news during his break as anything about heroes was his hobby and seeing the latest debuts or hearing anything hero related was obsession of his.

Unfortunately for Izuku, his thoughts were on two pieces of news that were clouding his mind. The first one would be the news of Iida's brother being injured by the Hero killer who was attacking and taking out heroes near Hosu City. Izuku felt something off about Iida as he tried to brush off the incident after Izuku tried to ask how Iida was holding up.

The second piece of news that he caught was around this morning as he heard that there was a new vigilante that made a deadly debut in Musutafu, as he heard about the docks massacre where around fifthteen members of the yakuza. Izuku was shocked at how someone tried to spread justice by killing those who committed crimes, he thought it as senseless and useless as you become the very thing you're trying to stop.

The conversations stopped as Class 1A's teacher Aizawa stepped through with a cup of coffee and a Manila folder in his hands. Midorya was wondering if what was in the folder was relevant to what they were about to do in the homeroom as Aizawa made his way behind his desk.

"Good to see your bandages off Aizawa sensei, ribbit" Asui Greeted their homeroom teacher on his successful recovery for his health. Aizawa rubbed the bottom of his eye with the back of his hand as he took a sip of coffee from his cup.

"Recovery Girl's treatments were more excessive than they needed to be even if they worked," Aizawa continued before putting his cup and folder down on the desk, "Regardless of that, onto a more important topic regarding today's lesson in Heroic Informatics and it's a special one too," Aizawa stated.

This had caused multiple students in the class to internally groan as Heroic Informatics was seen as one of the more dull and boring portions of the hero course. One student known as Denki Kaminari was nervously anticipating what it was, assuming the worst as a pop quiz was going to be held.

"Today you'll be choosing your hero names."

It was total bedlam soon after Aizawa said those words. Most of the class loudly cheered and shouted for joy, while the more reserved stayed quietly in their seats while internally joining their classmates in the rambunctious chorus going around the room.

"Settle down," Aizawa commanded the class as order was restored. When saw that their full attention was back on him, he continued, "Now regarding the internship and the offers from pro heroes, these offers are based more so on the potential of you all on becoming a successful pro hero. These internships are a way for them to invest in your futures as pros, so don't let up on the gas," Aizawa explained as he showed the screen which had all of the internship offers for everyone in Class 1A. "Even if you didn't get offered an internship, you will be going on one with a pro, it'll still be worthwhile to get more of that much needed experience working with one," Aizawa finished.

"So that's where our names come into use!" Sato exclaimed in excitement.

"Wow! This is getting really fun!" Ochaco said with the same amount of enthusiasm.

Aizawa tried to keep their optimism to a realistic level, " Even if they are only temporary, you still need to make sure that the alias you choose is appropriate-"

BANG!

"-Or there will be hell to pay!" were the words that came from Nemuri Kayama, also known as the R-rated hero: Midnight, barge through the door as class 1A cheered for the other UA teacher as she explained the process of creating a name.

Aizawa thought that while Midnight handled the whole process with his class, he could get started on more of his investigation of the vigilante as he sat down in his chair and opened up the manila folder. Inside said folder was documents that talk about a similar situation in the United States where a vigilante fitting the description from the one in the warehouse showed that he been active for about almost two years now, and they even had an Alias as well.

'Red Hood…' Aizawa thought about the name in his head as he looked towards the students and seeing the names they're choosing, seeing all types of names weather it's a legacy name like Kirishima choosing red riot to more basic ones like shoto using his own name. Aizawa paused for a second to take everything in before he went to the bottom of the folder and pulled out a UA student profile, one that brought back old memories.

He stood at the front of the class with some butterflies , everyone eager to see what he chose as his hero identity. He thought at first it would be so easy as the name had been somewhat a legacy name from one of the old age heroes, while also being something very personal to him as well. When he flipped around the board he saw the mixed bag of reactions that were on the face of his classmates. Some were confused, others thought about it for a second before agreeing with it. Whichever the reaction it also brought out vocal answers as well.

"Soooo, why would you choose the name 'Red Robin' Todd? Your quirk has nothing to do with flying or birds," one of the male students said before another person added in their opinion.

"Actually I could see it working! Yeah he's not flying in the traditional sense, but do you see the way he moves it's almost as if he is a robin bird! Flying from rooftop to rooftop, spot to spot, I like it Todd!" commented one of the female students, causing Jason to give a nervous smile and "thank you" to respond.

Only two people besides Jason knew the real meanings for his name. One was Aizawa as he actually knows the real reason as to why: the Dark Knight and his sidekick who had been heroes during the Silver Age of heroes in the States. Aizawa knew this because of the history he had with Jason, knowing how it was practically a bedtime story for the young man when he spent his early years in Gotham.

The other person that knew the other reason was best friends with Jason, said the person was covering her mouth not trying to let out a giggle as she saw the name. Rumi made eye contact with Jason and gave him a Mischievous glare as she knew the reason why he chose this name, 'Ahhhhh! I wish his grandparents were here right now, they would get a laugh out of it and tease him!' Rumi thought to herself menacing.

"Wowww Jason! I didn't know you eventually wanted to be my sidekick, look at how well our names match! You gotta find a way to be more creative with it" were the words that came from Keigo Takami, who had chosen his name as Hawks, which caused laughter as a response from everyone in the classroom and even from Jason as well.

Looking at the file of Jason Todd, Aizawa was hit by the wave of nostalgia and melancholy as he thought back to his former protégé. Jason was a mixture of his three problems in his current class; a heart to be a hero and tenacity of Midorya, his kindness as well. Todoroki's reserved personality which stems from not being as socially adapted as others and Bakugo'd competitiveness and anger are what all round up into describing the former student known as Jason Komadori Todd.

His greatest failure.

As Class 1A was choosing names and receiving input and approval/disapproval from Midnight, Midorya looked over to Aizawa sensei to see him lost in thought as he looked at the papers in the manila folder, seeing his knuckles white from gripping the stack of papers so hard. Midorya knows that everyone once in a while needs help or talking to someone, so he thought best if he'd bring it up to All Might later on. His thoughts were cut short as it was his turn to choose his name.

(UA staff lounge)

Toshinori Yagi, also known as Japan's number one hero All Might, was receiving a call from a former mentor, one who can even make the number one scared as Yagi was currently having flashbacks to the torture that he would also call training. The reason for these flashbacks? Midorya now had someone who offered him an internship and it just so happens to be the man who trained Yagi in his early days, Gran Torino.

As soon as he got that piece of info, Yagi was contacted by another friend, one of his friends from America, "Hey long time no see, I'm assuming this isn't a social call" Yagi greeted the man on the phone , asking what the purpose of the call is

"The Leauge of Shadows is trying to make their move, they've been trying to use the villains as a way to distract others from their planning. I've found out from my contact that they even have sleeper agent in Japan" which caused All Might to widen his eyes in shock from this revelation. All Might composed himself and responded to the information given

"Don't worry, I know someone who can help look around and gather more information in whate in ver nefarious plot they have planned next. Thanks once again, Bruce." Yagi said as he hung up his phone and let out a deep sigh that he himself didn't even know was holding.

Today was gonna be a long day.

(To be continued…)

Welcome my Renegades to the end of my first chapter in "The Lethal Protector of Musutafu" and down here in this A/N I'll explain a few this so that it can clear up any type of confusion that y'all might have.

MAIN NOTES FOR THE STORY:

•Ages: the only major ages that got changed is that Aizawa and most of the teachers who are around the same age as Aizawa are getting an age increase to be in their late 30s. Reasoning behind this is that I want some age gap for Jason and his two other pals, Hawks and Mirko, all three of them being 22 in this story

•Jason: Yes I am giving Red Hood a quirk! No it will not be OP as that is just out of the realm of where this story could really translate into working for me. I want to still make him feel like Red Hood so the quirk I chose should still have him grounded in the sense of how he operates.

•Batman Lore: I am using for the most part, some of the lore and not all of it. You'll see most Batman related things and very very few characters and references that are related with other pieces of the DC universe.

I'll touch base more on the details of the story, I really wanted to get the first chapter out to y'all and just thankful for any kind of support, feedback or responses. Even a simple hello goes a long way with me. Feel free to leave a comment, give a like and a follow and I'll see you guys in the next chapter!
