No-One But You (The Mystic Consultant) - Part 2

Chapter 46: Emberkreiss (Part 6)

Donna Strange concluded the conversation she was having there at the Kamar taj, then her mind began to fill with the thought of heading … home. She had her own apartment, back in New York. Suddenly, as a silence loomed, the thought of returning to it crossed her mind… but she hesitated.

The current embodiment of the Ancient One understood that the nostalgic feeling had a lot to do with what happened earlier that day, and the conversation with Steve Rogers surely didn't help. She told herself the feeling would pass, and she did her best to carry on. Donna made her way to the wide doorway of the council room, but then she stopped.

She could tell when the Vishanti hosts were present there at the Kamar taj, so she noticed it immediately when Steve and Tony's energy suddenly disappeared from the site. They left the scene, and Donna could only feel the energy of those who were left behind. She estimated that there were fifty souls present at the Kamar taj that evening.

Wait, actually, there were forty-nine souls present. She noticed that another soul was missing…

Donna just forced an unseen smile, then her mind returned to the notion of returning home. The sister wondered why it preoccupied her thoughts so much in that moment. She closed her eyes after some time, then she formed a portal right there in the door frame. Donna Strange stepped back into what she considered to be her old life, and the image of the previous Ancient One disappeared completely.

She stood in front of a tall grey door. It had the number 32 etched onto a gold plate. Donna stared at the number for a bit, and then she glanced down toward her right leg. That's where her purse normally was, or the dominant pocket where she always kept her keys.

Donna was wearing a bright floral skirt. Her skirts normally had pockets, so she forced her own hand to get to work and find the key.

Her roommate's name was Darcy, and she was in the living room watching TV. The middle Strange walked herself back into a familiar space, then her roommate's voice carried loudly down the short hallway.

"WE THOUGHT YOU DIED, YO? Where the hell have you been? Did you know they replaced you at work? I called your dad and mom, your brothers, your EX and even the president at least, thirty times."

Darcy even notified their local news channel, because her roommate had mysteriously disappeared months ago. Donna blinked a couple times as she processed what Darcy said. She walked further into the space. Donna didn't have a minute at all to process what her roommate told her, because Darcy was up off the couch in an instant. She gave Donna a giant hug, and she quickly introduced her to some guy named Nick.

"A whole bunch of money kept coming into my account every month, so I kinda assumed you just went AWOL somewhere. Where've you been Don?"

The sister finally took in her words. She smiled after hearing her amusing nickname, but then she backtracked on some of the things Darcy said. She felt indifferent about Darcy contacting her brothers, the news, and the president… but the other group of people she mentioned almost caused her soul to flatline.

"Yes, I had my bank automatically send you money to cover any expenses. Wait, you called my parents?"

Donna didn't like hearing that. She made a mental note to reconnect with her parents, because time had obviously slipped away from her. She looked around their adorable apartment for a bit, then she finally gave the guy named Nick a small smile. She even gave him a small wave, then she looked over in the direction where her bedroom was. Darcy clarified that she didn't freak out her parents. She said they gave her some actual information, and only one other person responded back.

"Yes I called your parents. They said they knew you were in a strange place. They didn't like that I called them a million times, and the only other person who actually called back was your ex. He said you were in Nepal? Seriously?"

Cool. Donna closed her eyes briefly after the words reached her mind. She wondered when Darcy contacted James for a moment, but ultimately, that information didn't matter. She expected her brothers to ignore the call. That was typical for them, and the reaction of the others involved was pretty on brand. Donna focused her attention on their cute little kitchen.

She was very proud of the apartment she shared with Darcy, but she remembered her belongings being located in a different time and a different place. Her heart, mind and soul was suddenly very fixated and filled with ideas like that. She wondered if her humanity was trying to hold on for dear life, or something. Seeing James again in the flesh didn't help, so… the middle sister did her best to ignore the notion.

"Thank you for keeping the place as it was. It still looks adorable."

She didn't really respond or answer any of Darcy's questions. It was pretty late at night, so the young woman turned her focus toward her old bedroom. She gave Darcy and Nick a small smile before she left the room. She even gave them a cordial goodbye. Donna said she needed to rest. Truth was, her mind was pretty restless, so she located the key to her bedroom and she let herself in.

A deep feeling of nostalgia, or something, struck her soul as soon as she turned on the light to her bedroom. Her whole world was packed up in that space. Some of it was still in boxes, but a majority of her belongings had ventured out into the space. Donna Strange not only worked in one of the most prominent fashion districts in New York, but she also owned half the inventory.

Her taste for clothes, jewelry, perfume, and expensive purses picked up quickly after she left Nebraska far behind her. She loved accessorizing herself and everything around her. Donna stepped toward one section of her closet and she almost choked at the sight. At first glance, she, NO JOKE, had a truckload of Christian Louboutin heels that she wore on a typical Tuesday. You know, the ones with the statement red soles, and she had an elaborate yet tasteful ensemble of designer clothing pieces to pair them with.

Her soul started swaying in a different direction again, when she looked toward her left. Donna looked over at a box that was open, but it wasn't unpacked. She knew that box was filled with things a girl holds onto after she starts living with someone. Stuff like… movie tickets, pictures, letters, and other, stuff. She couldn't just pitch that stuff off a cliff. I mean, her relationship with James didn't end in a bad way. She just left…

The young woman took a moment to rub her eyes and the side of her face with her hands. Her soul was returning to the nostalgic thoughts, and at that point she was getting pretty annoyed with what was happening. Donna brushed it all off once again, then she dug though a rack of clothes for one of her robes. She found her favorite one, so she began her process of getting ready for sleep.

The first step of her evening routine always started with Donna getting control of her long dark hair. She pushed the top of it back with her hands, then she hunted around her makeup desk for a way to tie it up.
