No-One But You (The Mystic Consultant) - Part 2
Chapter 62: Sorcerer Supreme (Part 2)
…
Steve Rogers was pretty intuitive…..
He could spot some "feels" from a mile away, and what he witnessed at the Kamar taj that day was crystal clear. It took a while for the moment to finally reveal itself, but the blonde caught onto it as soon as it happened. Bam. Point blank.
The moment occurred when he started making his way down from the roof of the Kamar taj. The repairs were complete and the construction crew migrated down to the ground level. Wade Wilson's red boots touched the ground first, then he looked back up toward Ezekiel Stane to make sure he could make it down safely.
That wasn't the moment Steve Rogers witnessed, but the soldier was already expecting it. Ezekiel clearly didn't need any assistance from Wade, and the Jackal was an expert at keeping his facial expressions in check. Ezekiel removed his white suit entirely when his feet touched the ground, and he casually glanced up toward the repaired roof as well.
Ezekiel noticed that Steve was far behind them, so his focus went back in Wade's direction. They both had been avoidant toward one another, and the Jackal understood why.
"Thank you, for Milwaukee."
The comment was brief, but Wade became very responsive to it. He started talking about getting a jumpstart on the plan. Plans had formed long before Ezekiel patched things up with Victor Strange, and Deadpool was simply pulling through with his side of the arrangement to pass the time.
"Anytime, Shiny. My offer still stands… if you were actually listening."
Once upon a time, Wade Wilson offered up his services to Ezekiel Stane, and then some. The quiet coyote told him that he'd think about it. Now, Milwaukee was only a small piece to the yummy puzzle, and Wade knew that his presence there was making Ezekiel a happy camper. The small smile didn't lie.
"I was listening."
...
Oh boy. Steve Rogers dropped down to the ground level and he slowly glanced from Wade over to Ezekiel. In some circles, what Steve heard and witnessed might have seemed like a simple interaction. There was nothing "simple" about it. The connection could not be concealed, and the blonde thought the Jackal's timing to speak was interesting.
Wade gave a shrug when he saw Steve. The mercenary was all smiles beneath that mask, and the blonde could tell that he interrupted the moment. The conversation was bound to continue. Steve was sure of that.
"I have something for you Ezekiel."
Oh? The Jackal's neutral demeanor returned after Steve spoke. Curiosity took over the moment, and Ezekiel watched the blonde motion for him to follow. Steve had been wanting to do something with Ezekiel for a long while. He led Wade and Ezekiel in the direction of the library, and the blonde couldn't help but look toward his right.
Tony's energy was off the charts. Steve felt his presence there, and he thought over how to move forward with him. Instead of working on his own relationship, Steve was more or less distracting himself. Wade stretched his arms back as he followed the leader. He gripped the sides of his own neck for a bit, and he casually looked and swayed over in Ezekiel's direction.
He looked once, twice, third times a charm. The "Jackal" returned the focus after Wade's third attempt. That red suit was filthy, but Ezekiel kept staring at it. He wasn't fooling Steve at all, but the blonde didn't say one word. He stepped into the library for a sec, then he emerged with a brown wooden box.
The time had come to truly face Ezekiel Stane one on one. Steve felt more than ready, and he held the box up high so they both could see it. Ezekiel wasn't sure what Steve's agenda was, but his behavior pulled his focus away from the person that kept casually bumping into him as they walked. Wade was flirting on the down-low, and playing his silly games.
Ezekiel appeared unaffected, but at that point… his demeanor felt forced. He actually wanted to shove Wade away from him, or return the playful gesture.
"Ezekiel, I hereby challenge you to a duel of wits."
Steve Rogers opened up the box as soon as he could. The game of chess was suddenly revealed to the small group, and the Jackal's soul tightened up in that moment. He saw the chess pieces, made of wood, and his face pulled up into a small smile. A challenge like that from Steve was something that Ezekiel could only hope for. He never thought…
Wade kinda laughed. I mean? The mercenary stared at Steve and he scratched the back of his head. The mercenary had other things on his mind in that moment, and playing chess definitely wasn't it.
