No-One But You (The Mystic Consultant) - Part 2
Chapter 65: Sorcerer Supreme (Part 5)
Steve Rogers was eyeing the attention Ezekiel was giving one of his knights. The poker face game was strooooonnnggg with that one, and Steve truly couldn't get a read.
The game was just getting started, and both participants were in a good mood about it happening. Ezekiel was still surprised. He never expected to be sitting across a chess table with Steve. He thought about the long journey it took for the two of them to get to that moment. In a way, Steve Rogers had always been there for him.
Mostly behind the scenes, but Ezekiel knew of his efforts. He glanced up at Steve several times.
Wade suddenly had a hula hoop and he was twirling around toward the left of the table. He understood the importance of the chess game happening before him, so he tried to his best to keep quiet. Deadpool had to move his body, so for him the hula hooping made perfect sense. Steve almost died laughing when Wade pulled the hula hoop out of thin air.
The soldier was beyond amused. He couldn't get enough of Wade's peculiar presence. He had a feeling his chess opponent felt the same way.
The blonde looked up at Ezekiel on more than one occasion, but Obadiah's son was an expert at maintaining his focus. Wade Wilson's behavior didn't seem to faze him. The Jackal just let him do his thing, and he operated in his usual fashion.
Steve picked a spot to play their game where he had a nice view of the mountains. He took a second to look out toward the horizon, but then the soldier boy suddenly received an alert.
His eyes looked left, because a special someone sent him a playful message. Tony chose to communicate with Oshtur's host from tech-to-tech, because Victor Strange was ready to fuse Oshtur's energy within his amulet.
Hey Blondie, Victor and I are about to approach Oshtur's realm. Can you please let us in? - TS
Steve smiled when the message appeared before him, then he took another look at his quiet opponent. Victor and Tony's timing was terrible, but Steve knew that they could pick up the game when he returned. Steve wanted to see Tony, but he also wanted to be there when Oshtur and Victor interacted. So with that logic in mind, the blonde sat back a bit against his chair.
Wade and Ezekiel were fine to stay there together, right? Steve was sure the two of them were planning to have a private conversation. Steve gently cleared his throat, then he broke the news to Ezekiel that they had to temporarily pause their game.
Oh? Ezekiel watched Steve stand up. So, Victor was about to interact with Steve's Vishanti beast. Oshtur. The Jackal gave Steve a small nod of acknowledgement, then he watched the soldier walk over toward Wade.
"I'm sure you'll be behaving yourself, right Wade?"
"Oh yeah. You can count on me. All I do is behave myself."
A giant grin took place beneath that mask. Steve could tell by his jawline. The mercenary continued twirling his hips around with the silly hula hoop that encircled his waist. Not another word was said amongst the group, until Steve Rogers up and disappeared. As soon as Steve sexy pants Rogers disappeared from the grounds of the Kamar taj, Wade Wilson whipped his body around toward Ezekiel Stane.
"HEY THERE. Can I have a seat?"
Wade tossed the hula hoop off toward some Kamar taj employee, then the playful mercenary quickly took his seat. He actually stole Steve's seat, and then he mentioned that the chair was nice and warm. He said it was nice and cozy, because Steve Rogers was full of love. Ezekiel watched his amusing behavior, and he listened to the way the man spoke about Steve.
There were no signs of protest coming from Ezekiel Stane, so the mercenary took that as a sign that he was free to speak his mind. They had a lot to talk about, because Ezekiel had been shacked up at his place for months. Wade naturally wanted to return to the hooking up part of that arrangement, but all of that was up to whatever Ezekiel had going on in his head.
Wade finally felt free to speak, and boy did he get to speaking.
"You're doing great Ezekiel. Seriously. Just let beauty come out of the ashes, like Celine Dion once said."
….
….
…What? Saline Diwhat? Ezekiel didn't understand half of the words that left Wade's mouth. The Jackal puzzled over it, and a small smile formed over his face. He was more than amused with Wade Wilson, but he was giving their conversation some serious thought. That "employee" for the Kamar taj was actually Wong. Ezekiel saw that Wade absentmindedly hit him on the head with the hula hoop, and he carefully looked around for Victor's sister.
Or, his brother. Who knew…
"I do have to say, I was getting used to you being around. At my place, I mean."
Wade really wanted to discuss it. He also took that moment to switch one of Steve's chess pieces around on the board. Ezekiel took notice immediately, and he quickly smacked Wade's left hand away from the board. He fixed what Wade did to the game, and he did his best to ignore what he heard.
He was getting used to certain things too. Ezekiel experienced quite a bit when he indirectly lived with Wade. Ezekiel pieced himself back together in a sense, and he felt free there for the first time. Wade's existence was…
The Jackal lost his thought, because the mercenary said something about being unable to breathe. He removed his mask to continue the conversation, because the subject matter was warming Deadpool up. He didn't lie when he said that he was getting used to having Ezekiel around. Wade meant that shit, and the silence was making his body overheat.
He removed that mask, but he thought twice about activating Tony's gift. Remember, Tony Stark gave him a device to fix his mugshot? Wade understood that it was a way for Tony to keep tabs on Ezekiel. Starknado knew the two of them were getting close, or, he knew that they would be getting close? Right? Was that how it worked?
Either way, Wade was careful about it. He kept staring down at his mask.
Ezekiel was used to seeing him with the technology being used, and without. The Jackal hated that he was unable to respond, but his words felt locked up somewhere in his chest. The words were a work in progress, because what happened with Wade wasn't a simple thing. Ezekiel had a lot of thoughts going on about it, so he drew in a slow breath.
"SO Milwaukee. I managed to clear out half of the base. This excursion interrupted me, but I'm happy to head back there if that's what you want?"
Wade's voice took a shift. The subject became a bit more serious, because he was previously engaged in a bloodbath duel to the death, for Ezekiel Stane. They had an empire to deconstruct, and the mercenary was doing his part as best he could. Wade also felt like conversing with him from a place that had some warmth to it, like a Steve Rogers kind of warmth.
So, Wade used Tony's tech to fix his skin, and he spoke to Ezekiel as if he was his former self. Wade Wilson felt like a normal guy again as he spoke in that moment, and Ezekiel took note of the change to his tone. His entire demeanor was…
"I plan to go back with you, after this. I need to make sure Victor gets everything he needs to be the Sorcerer Supreme."
Ah. Gotcha. Wade gave what he heard a dozen nods. He liked what he hearda lot, and his playful smile suddenly returned to the scene. Ezekiel slowly swallowed as soon as Wade flashed his charming smile.
The thoughts he had about Wade reemerged beneath his skin, so the Jackal did his best to focus on something else.
