No-One But You (The Mystic Consultant) - Part 2
Chapter 76: Technovore (Part 6)
When this story about the "Mystic Consultant" got started, Sofia Strange had turned six years old. It had only been a handful of months since her birthday, but who's actually counting?
Stephen Strange looked at his daughter when he returned to the Dark Dimension, and he began to notice a lingering pain deep within his right hand. It was foolish of him to force Agamotto to do something that he didn't want to do, but whatever. The former Sorcerer Supreme needed that amulet finished months ago.
The rest of the details would work itself out eventually. Stephen was sure of that, so he left the crowd and went home. There was far too much deliberation going on, plus Stephen missed Clea and Sofia. They made a home there in the Dark, but it wasn't something anyone from Earth could actually visit.
They wouldn't know what to think of it, because the Dark Dimension was as surreal as something could get. Stephen was fixated on that for a time, but then he gestured for his blue cloak to remove itself from his shoulders. The cloak folded itself up a number of times, then it migrated over in Clea's direction. She watched the mystical fabric as it fluttered about then excused itself.
It had a place within something that resembled a closet, and that's where it went. A door closed up behind it, and the Ruler of the Dark Dimension turned in Stephen's direction. He was greeting Sofia, and he mentioned something about Victor's accomplishment. His brother had taken over his position as the Sorcerer Supreme.
Clea welcomed the change, because Stephen's world out there was too, distracting. An unfortunate incident with some pitiful acquaintance really sealed the deal for Clea Strange. Her heart was dead set on ending Christine Palmer's life if she ever saw her again…
That was ancient history, so Clea removed the thought from her mind. She noticed Stephen was staring at his hand off and on, so Clea moved in even closer. She hadn't said a word to her husband at that point, but she was taking in his appearance. The former Sorcerer Supreme made eye contact with his wife, then all of a sudden the sharp pain he felt in his hand had increased.
"Wait Clea, stay there."
He didn't want Clea getting any closer, and he made his daughter take a few steps back. His petty monster of a Vishanti entity was very angry with him, and Stephen could tell Agamotto was trying to take over. Clea continued to study what was presented in front of her, and she told Sofia to head to her room.
"What did you do Stephen?"
"I pissed him off, but that's nothing new."
It had been a long while, but Stephen felt like he had everything handled. Nerves in his arm began to shake, so Clea defied all logic and she stepped in close. She gently touched his hand, despite what Stephen told her. Clea had a long history with Stephen's Vishanti beast. Technically, Clea married Agamotto in the Dark Dimension first, against Stephen's knowledge and his will.
Ancient history, once again, but Clea's touch normally did the trick. Stephen watched her as she removed the blue straps that covered his arm. Clea's hand eventually moved over his skin, and she told him that she could remedy Agamotto's anger, if that's what he wanted. Stephen slowly swallowed, because he knew exactly what his dream girl was implying. She was implying something that Stephen would never pass up, so his attention went in the direction of Sofia's adorable room.
She did exactly what her mother told her to do, but Stephen was sure she was following along. Sofia was too smart and curious, plus he could see that she was concerned. Did he want his wife to "remedy" Agamotto's anger? Uh, yeah.. but the timing was pretty off for a quick fix. Stephen flashed her a playful smile, and he told her they could get to that later.
He planned to suffer in silence for the moment, then revisit Clea's plan as soon as the coast was clear.
