-Present day-

As the rain begins to fall outside, Simone watches her grandmother slowly eat her breakfast, unable to take her eyes of her as thoughts flood through her mind. She couldn't help but notice the way her fingers trembled whenever she lifts her hand up to feed herself or the way her eyes became hollow by the second almost as if they were fading away and she feared for the worse.

"Are you sure you slept okay last night, nana?" she asks in a concerned tone, shifting her stool to be closer to her.

The old witch places her spoon down on the bowl. "Sweetheart..." she begins, as she slowly lifts her hand to place over hers. "Ever since you were little you always worried about me. Even when your mother was alive you were worried about me more than she did".

"That's because mom didn't know how to worry, she took you for granted always, some people just aren't meant to be mothers" Simone sighs, slowly rubbing her forehead.

"Now don't talk about your mother that way, guaranteed she had her many flaws, she still loved you and your sister very much I know that" says Bonnie.

Trying her hardest not to dive into a deep conversation about her late mother, Simone quickly runs her hand down her face as she watches Bonnie stare of into space lost in her thoughts. "I'm sorry that you're having to relieve these memories about Damon Salvatore. I'd still like to know what happened next along with the other two vampires who came after him, but we don't have to if you don't want to" she breathes out placing her other hand over hers.

Bonnie smiles a weak smile and gazes deeply into her eyes. "No, sweetheart... you deserve to know, after all I've kept these secrets with me forever".

Simone lowers her head and pauses for a brief while before speaking up. "You said that Caroline unexpectedly showed up the night you ran away to Paris with Damon?... she came with you both? why, and what happened after?".

"Caroline wasn't the type of person to take risks. When she ran away that night I knew something was wrong. She cried the whole way on the trip" Bonnie explains briefly. "She had a fight with her mother, obviously she still wanted to stay engaged to her fiance Matt but she couldn't take it in that house anymore so she packed her bags and ran away to me without knowing if we had left or not... we were only teenage girls, both Eighteen, leaving home for the summer to go across the world with a vampire. There was a lot of things that could've gone wrong, but we both wanted to just escape even it was for a little while... We wouldn't change that summer for anything. It was everything we both ever wanted...".

As Bonnie whispers the last sentence, there was a glint in her eyes like no other, a soft tenderness in her voice as Simone sits still, locking eyes with her as the rain splattered heavily outside.

-Flashback-

-June 18th, 1941-

After a long and tiring journey, Bonnie and Caroline were stood in the middle of a street in Paris, France as Damon bought some food at a bakery behind them.

Clutching onto their suitcases, the two girls gauge excitedly at everything around them, in awe of their surroundings, still in disbelief at where they were.

They were thousands of miles from home with both their families unaware that they were halfway across the world. Ever since they met and became the best of friends on that faithful day on the playground back in 1935 they had always dreamed of going to Europe; specifically Paris, even joked about running away here together, unaware that it would someday become a reality.

"Oh Bon, I still think I'm dreaming, I can't believe we're here" Caroline shrieked, placing her suitcase on the ground. Bonnie laughs to herself as she watches her twirl around while holding onto her dress, drawing some attention from people walking past. It was nice to see a smile on her face after seeing her so wounded and broken just two nights ago. "If my parents find out that I'm here, I'm dead... do you think Matt would mind that I'm gone?" she questions, before stopping to glance down at her engagement ring.

"Forget him, Caroline" says Bonnie as she takes her hand and slowly lowers it.

"Bonnie..." she sighs, placing her hand on her hips.

"You never know, perhaps you might meet a handsome man who will sweep you off your feet then you never have to think about that asshole again not to talk of marrying him" Bonnie scoffs, rolling her eyes away.

"Matt and I might have our differences, but I'm marrying him Bonnie, its what I want" Caroline assures as Bonnie sighs to herself before biting her tongue. "It just looks like you're the only one that's going to get swept of her feet, or perhaps maybe you already have" she chuckles, arching her brow at her.

Bonnie slowly shakes her head, trying hard to stop the evident smile on her face, before turning to look back at Damon inside the bakery. I guess as hard as she tried to keep lying to herself, she couldn't deny the fact that Caroline was somewhat right. At first wen he had asked her to come with him, she thought he was crazy, simply out of his mind for even suggesting that, she never imagined herself to ever consider it but not being able to control herself she had ran to him that night and he was stood waiting for her almost like he had no doubt in his mind that she would come with him no matter what.

Her feelings were becoming overwhelming by the second. She felt scared whenever she was around him, but also excited whenever he looked at her. She wasn't sure what this thing was between them yet, she wasn't sure how he really felt about her, but whenever she looks up into his soft blue eyes it always felt so powerful and intense. She hadn't been looked at before like that by a man in her life. As much as they fought and as irritated as he made her, she still came halfway across the world with him and she knew that whatever this thing was between them was only just getting started.

A few minutes later, Damon strolled out the bakery before making his eyes over to them.

"Finally, I'm starving" Caroline groans, snatching the bag of his hand. She took a croissant out the bag and handed one to Bonnie, before going to take a bite out of the other as Damon rolled his eyes away.

"You're welcome" he hissed, snatching the bag back from her. "Have you never had one of these before?" he asks, going to cross the street as the two followed from behind.

"Yes, but not one from Paris" Bonnie answered briefly. As she was about to speak again, she felt Damon quickly pick her up and rush back to the sidewalk as a speeding car came rushing past. She looked back at Caroline who was stood behind her breathing out a sigh of relief, before glancing back up at Damon as he held the back of her head, before looking over at the car.

"Be more careful, okay, this isn't like West Virginia" he muttered quietly. "Let's go... c'mon Blondie, " he said looking over at Caroline before going to place his hand on Bonnie's waist.

As the three walked across the street, Bonnie carefully watched everyone around them. "Damon?" she whispers, drawing his attention back to her. "You used your vamp speed, back then to save me... what if someone saw, there's people around us" she said.

"Don't worry about it..." that was all he said as he clenches his jaw reassuring her to indeed not to worry. He slowly moved his hand down her lower waist, holding a firm yet gentle grip on it and with each step she took she felt her heartbeat quicken more and more all by his simple touch.

Fifteen minutes later, they arrived at a small building fairly close to the Eiffel tower.

Placing his suitcase on the ground, he turned back around to look at Bonnie and Caroline gazing up at the tower in awe from afar. Moments later, an interracial couple who were holding hands had walked past, nodding their heads at them politely and shooting them sweet smiles and Bonnie and Caroline couldn't help but gasp quietly in amazement as that was something they weren't used to seeing out in public.

"Are they a couple?" Caroline asked, as she watched them lean in for a long kiss, before they carried on walking side by side.

"There are a lot of couples like that here in Europe..." Damon spoke up, whilst slipping his hands into his pockets as he took a step closer to them. "People here just don't care as much as they do in the states, of course its still not seen as the norm but anyone can fall in love with who they want here".

"Is that so?" Caroline places her hand on her hips as she takes a step towards him. "What about you? have you fallen in love with someone here before?" she asks, looking back at Bonnie as silence quickly looms around them.

Wanting to break the awkwardness, Bonnie quickly clears her throat. "Where are we anyway?" she questions looking around as she avoids eye contact with Damon. She wasn't stupid or delusional. He was a vampire who had been alive for a little over a hundred years so she knew that they were many many women in his past. They had never spoken about it, neither had he brought it up, but she would be fooling herself to think she was the first girl he had taking a curiosity and liking too. Maybe she wasn't the first girl he had asked to come with him halfway across the road with, maybe he had done it a thousand times and the thought of that filled her with an uncertain jealousy, so much so that se couldn't bare to maintain eye-contact with him right at that moment. Maybe she was falling for him as much as she hated to admit and the thought of that was slowly driving her crazy.

Damon glanced down at Bonnie as she carried on looking around to avoid his gaze and he quietly breathes out, before shifting his head to the side. Caroline looks back and forth between the two of them, easily noticing the slight tension before speaking up.

"Bonnie's right... where even are we, Damon?" she asked, linking her arms back with a very uneasy Bonnie and snapping her out of her thoughts.

"You see that window up there?... its my apartment" says Damon as he points up at a window on the top floor of the building.

"You have an apartment in Paris?" asked Caroline, arching her brow while looking up at the window.

"Back in the early 20's I lived here for about three years. Thought the view was pretty good so I compelled the person who owned it last to give it to me at a decent price" he smirked before reaching into his pocket and pulling out the key.

"So what I'm hearing is you haven't lived here for twenty years so its probably dirty and disgusting inside? great, looks like we have a lot of cleaning to do" Caroline groans, before walking ahead towards the apartment as Bonnie chuckled lightly, following after her, while once again ignoring Damon's gaze.

The young witch laughed at something Caroline had said along the way, and before they could head up the stairs, she felt Damon quickly grabbed hold of her arm pulling her back. Caroline rapidly turned her head back to look at the both of them. She notices Damon's grip tighten on Bonnie's arm and it didn't take long for her to get the hint, knowing that they needed to talk.

"Top floor right?... I'll wait outside the door" said Caroline as she clutched tightly onto her suitcase, before shooting a smile at Bonnie and going to walk up the stairs.

Listening to the sound of her heels clicking until it was faint, Bonnie shut her eyes and took a deep breath, before going to pull her arm back from Damon. She stared at him for a brief while, about to walk up the stairs, till he pulled her back stopping her again.

"Jealousy isn't a good look on you, Bonnie, especially at the fact that I've done nothing wrong" he scoffs, slightly shrugging to himself.

"Jealous?... I don't have time for this, Damon" she groans quietly, rolling her eyes away at him. But of course she would never admit that she was.

"I'm not a fool to believe you haven't been with other people in the past before. I'll admit it makes me sick thinking about it, but I'm not mad" he says, taking a step towards her to close any gap between them.

Bonnie looks away from him and folds her arms while shaking her head. "I haven't been with near enough people as you have Damon and we don't need to talk about this and have this conversation, there's nothing between us so it shouldn't matter..." she says quietly as silence brews in the atmosphere for a little while.

Damon takes a step back and scoffs to himself. "This is what you want right... fine, there's nothing between us and there never will be" he spoke harshly.

Bonnie looked back at him with her fingers trembling. "Maybe I should've just stayed in West Virginia and not come with you that night... this was a mistake".

As she finishes her sentence and lowers her head, Damon flashes her a straight and monotone look, almost as if he was trying to hide what he was really feeling inside right then which he was. Without saying anything else, he then walks past her and up the stairs leaving a hard lump to quickly fill her throat as tears fills her eyes. I guess in a way she knew that she was self sabotaging. She was met with these overbearing feelings that she didn't know how to deal with. As much as it excited her and thrilled her, it also terrified her. Falling in love with a man who happened to be a vampire while being a witch was something that she never planned to happen in a million years.

Sucking in her tears, she then turns around to head up the stairs, joining Damon and Caroline on the top floor a brief while later.

"Bon, are you okay?" Caroline asked, walking over to her.

"I'm fine, Care" she replies, glancing over at Damon who slowly walked over to his door in silence while avoiding her gaze with his jaw clenching tightly and his left fist balled up. With the deep tension brewing around them Caroline knew something had happened but she knew now wasn't the time to pry.

They watched as Damon pushed the door open and strolled inside and the two friends slowly walked in after him, immediately stopping as they saw a figure of a guy stood near the window with his back facing them. Seconds later, he slowly turned around to face them. He had slightly tanned skin, full brown hair and deep green eyes. As he returned their gazes, the two girls couldn't help but wonder who he was and how he had gotten in here in the first place.

"Using your vamp speed out in public where anyone could've easily seen... well it wouldn't be the first time you've been so reckless to do that, Damon" he spoke up, slipping his hands inside his suit pocket.

"Stefan..." Damon muttered quietly, his eyes softening at the sudden sight of him. Bonnie and Caroline watched as the two walked towards each other to engulf into a big hug. "You saw us back then, huh?".

"I did... I knew you'd be coming here, so I thought I'd surprise you first. I still have the key" Stefan answered, as they slowly pulled away from the hug. "When I heard you got discharged from the war, I thought I'd write you that letter, I didn't think I'd see you again after everything that happened, I'm sorry, Damon it was partly all my fault, I missed you".

"Its okay, brother I missed you too, we'll talk and catch up later" Damon smiled patting him on the back as Bonnie and Caroline watched the brothers reunite after what they assumed to be for many years.

Moments later, Stefan looked past Damon then over at them. He watched them for a brief while as they returned his gaze while slowly walking over to them.

Damon glances at Bonnie who quickly looked back at him. Clenching his jaw trying not to think about what had just happened with them, he breathed out before speaking up. "Stefan, this is Bonnie Bennett, I met her a few months ago back in West Virginia" Damon introduces the two as Stefan closely studied the look on his face trying to figure out the relationship between the two as he could sense some slight tension between them.

"Its very nice to meet you, Stefan" Bonnie smiles as the two goes to shake each other's hand.

"Careful Stef, she's not as nice as she looks she'll fry your brain if you mess wit her" Damon utters, taking of his suit blazer and going to walk past them. "Please tell me this is new bourbon you just bought, I've been dying for a drink ever since" he sighs as Bonnie watches him pour the bottle of bourbon into a glass before downing it instantly. After he did so, he stops to look back at her and they hold a heavy look at each other, before he goes to pour himself another drink. I guess his way to cope was to drink himself away and at that moment he didn't care if he did it right in-front of her.

"Wait fry my brain... is she?-"

"A witch?... you guessed right" Damon snarls, going to sit down on a stool as he carried on drinking. "A Bennett witch too so that means she's oh so powerful, you know how witches are" he said sarcastically, going to roll his eyes away.

Haven heard enough, Bonnie folds her arms about to fire back at him, but Caroline quickly steps in and places her hand on her shoulder, stopping her.

"Damon, enough!" the young blonde hissed at him, while placing her hand on her hips sternly.

As silence fills the room for a brief moment, Stefan turns his head to face Caroline. He watched as she held a furious look at Damon and shook her head at him. Moments later, she then turns to meet his gaze. She stands still as she notices him slowly travel his eyes down from her head to toe, almost like he was taking in every inch of her and more. She sends him a sweet smile and he smiles back, before she takes a step towards him to properly introduce herself.

"I'm Caroline Forbes... Bonnie's best friend" she spoke softly, before holding out her hand for him to shake.

"Stefan Salvatore" he replies, going to slowly shake her hand while taking in her features. As he goes to run his hand against her palm, he immediately notices the engagement ring on her finger and she wastes no time quickly pulling her hand back from him and looking elsewhere, but his eyes still didn't leave her. After a while, she slowly trails her eyes back to him.

"This place isn't as bad as I thought it'd be, do you mind if Bonnie and I have a look around?" Caroline asked, slowly cocking her head to the side.

"Not at all" said Stefan, nodding his head at her and with that the two girls held hands before going to rush over to the balcony to take in the beautiful view of the Eiffel tower from afar. Stefan looked back at Damon as he sat slumped over while holding a deep gaze over at Bonnie who laughed loudly from something Caroline had said unable to take his eyes of her and he began to remember the fact that he had only seen that look in his brother's eyes just once in their long lives.

-Hours later-

It was late at night and Bonnie, Caroline, Damon and Stefan were at a nightclub in downtown Paris. Bonnie and Caroline were sat near the live band, enjoying the music, along with the people and scenery around them, as Damon and Stefan sat near the bar drinking scotch and watching the two girls as they caught up on everything over the past twenty years.

Quickly turning away a guy who had requested her to dance, Caroline picked up her glass of wine and took a sip of it as Bonnie did the same as they looked around at the people dancing. Everyone from all different races and backgrounds were there and it felt like a breath of fresh air. Back home pretty much everything was so segregated and their friendship was looked down upon, but here they knew they wouldn't be judged for simply being best friends.

"Are you ready to tell me what happened with you and Damon now, Bon?... he was such an asshole earlier, I can't believe him and Stefan are related" Caroline uttered loudly enough for her to hear.

"You know I'm pretty sure they can hear us" Bonnie chuckled lightly, before taking a sip of wine, whilst feeling Damon's gaze on her once again. She always felt whenever he looked at her even when she wasn't looking back due to how deep and intense his gaze was. It was enough to send her spiraling most of the time, which was what terrified her the most when it came to him.

"Hear us? they're halfway across the room plus there's loud music" Caroline laughed.

"I never told you but vampires have super hearing, they can pretty much hear anything from a distance whenever they want no matter the noise around them... so I know they're probably listening to me explain this right now" said Bonnie.

Caroline furrowed her brows, turning around to look at the guys, before looking back at her. "Oh my god, seriously?!" she groaned. "Well tomorrow the two of us are going to explore Paris together alone , they can't hear what we talk about then can they" she uttered as Bonnie laughed. "Besides... Damon needs to learn he can't keep screwing up with you, you did come halfway around the world to Europe with him and he's been such a total ass, even more than he usually is".

Bonnie sighs to herself and lowers her head for a brief while. "It wasn't partly entire his fault..." she whispers to himself.

"What?" Caroline asks, shifting closer to her.

"I... I did push him away because in-in a way I guess I'm scared for a lot of different reasons... I don't wanna talk about this right now, Care" she sighs.

Caroline notices the gloomy look on her face, before getting up and pulling her up with him. "This is my favorite song, c'mon let's dance". A wide grin quickly spreads across Bonnie's face as she avoids looking back at Damon before getting up to dance with Caroline.

"Across the bar, Damon and Stefan quickly requests another bottle of scotch from the bartender, before turning their attention back to the girls as they continued to dance and let loose.

"So what does she mean by she's scared?" Stefan asked, referring to their conversation they had indeed been listening on.

"Exactly what it means Stefan... she's scared to be with me" said Damon, taking a sip of his drink as he watched her carefully.

"I mean I don't necessarily blame her, you're not really an easy person to love" Stefan scoffs. "I don't fully understand the relationship between you two, but I know you, Damon and you're clearly losing your mind over her and the only other person I've ever seen you lose your mind over is Katherine..." he said as Damon shut his eyes for a little while.

"That was years ago, Stefan and I haven't loved anybody since and never will" he snarls, shifting his eyes away from Bonnie. "Bonnie's no different from all the other girls who's peaked my curiosity for a little while and I get bored and lose interest in them. I like the chase, Stefan, just because I asked her to come to Paris with me doesn't mean anything. Her family hates vampires anyway". He downs the last of his drink and slams the glass down on the table, before narrowing his eyes back to her.

Stefan watched him closely before speaking up. "I don't believe you" he mutters as Damon rapidly turns to face him. "You're falling for her and its killing you that you can't have her easily, but I don't blame her for pushing you away, apart from asking her to come with you halfway across the world, it sounds like you haven't done anything to show her you want her... I know you more than you know yourself, Damon".

After a few minutes of sitting in silence between each other, Damon gets up, before fixing his tux and throwing some cash down on the bar. "Don't forget I know you just as well Stefan... think I didn't notice you getting pretty close with Caroline all day, I know you saw the engagement ring on her finger, brother" he says and before Stefan could get another word in, Damon quickly walked of as the live band began to play a slower song.

As he slowly approached Bonnie and Caroline, dodging past people along the way, they stopped to look at him.

"You mind if I cut in?" he asked Caroline, as Bonnie quickly shifted her eyes away.

Caroline glanced over at Stefan who cocked his head to the side signalling for her to join him before she nodded her head at Damon. "Alright" she says, smiling back at Bonnie who quickly smiled back, before going to walk over to Stefan, who slowly took her hand and pulled the seat open for her to sit beside him.

"You look beautiful tonight" Damon spoke up, looking down at her sparkly red dress. The color on her skin made her look so glowing which was why he had found it difficult to take his eyes of her all night.

He slowly holds out his hand to her and she looks at it for a brief while before going to take it, and with that they began to slow dance. Her heart skips a beat as he securely wraps his arms around her waist whilst he gazed down deeply into her eyes. She placed one hand on his shoulder and the other firmly on his chest as they slowly swayed with each other's rhythm. After a brief while, Bonnie looked away from him.

"You were listening to Caroline and I's conversation earlier weren't you?" she asked quietly.

He removed one arm from around her waist and went to cup her cheek, forcing her to look back up at him. "Do you regret coming here with me" he asks.

"I don't know... you didn't have be such an ass to me after what happened earlier, yet you were" she snarled.

"I'm sorry..." he whispers, cupping both her cheeks with his hands.

In annoyance, Bonnie quickly pushed his hands away, before taking a step back from him. "Apologizing just because you want this heavy tension between us to end just because you can't bare it anymore isn't going to accomplish anything, Damon". She scoffed at him and rolled her eyes away before turning around to walk away, dodging past some person.

Balling up his fist, Damon cursed underneath his breath, before going to quickly follow after her as Stefan and Caroline watched on from afar. Once they reached outside, Bonnie quickly rubs her arms together as the nights wind quickly hits her. She carries on walking, with her heels clicking with each and every step, before she felt Damon grab her arm from behind.

"What more do you want from me, Bon?" he sighs in frustration, slightly raising his voice at her. "What do you want me to do?!... you think you're the only one that's scared?!".

"And what do you have to be scared of?!" Bonnie yelled back. "Nothing's going on between us remember, we both said so, so there's need to-"

Before she could finish her sentence, Damon quickly pulled her in and to her shock, cups her face and presses his lips against hers. He kisses her hard and rough, pressing his body tightly against hers so much so that he feels like an extension of her. His fingers digs into her skin as he kisses her with so much passion making her knees weak. She had never been kissed before like that till that night like he did to her. Even with all the people who walked past their way glancing and whispering, he didn't stop. They were fighting moments ago like they always did and once again they become lost in each other, but this time in a different way.

A short while, Bonnie rapidly pulls away from Damon and pushes him off her. Without hesitation, she lifts her hand to slap him across the face, before turning around to walk away.

With each step she took, she tried to catch her breath from all the kissing but it was mere impossible. Her heart was beating incredibly fast and she felt like she was going to collapse at any moment from the pure feeling of ecstasy alone.

Seconds later, she stopped walking and looked back at Damon who was still stood staring at her and as truly afraid as she felt, she just couldn't stop herself. With tears brimming her eyes, she held onto her beating heart, before going to run back to him.

Damon closed his eyes shut before going to scoop her up and hold her tightly into his arms as they kissed once again, this time even more intense with everything they've ever had.

"I love you..." he whispers through the kiss as he holds onto her even tighter, not wanting to let her go tonight or ever again.
