No-One But You (The Mystic Consultant) - Part 2
Chapter 88: Game Boi (Part 8)
Wade Wilson casually walked into the main S.H.I.E.L.D. facility at 8:56 a.m… He stopped beside Ezekiel Stane at the data-stream info wall, and he watched him log in his official credentials. He also watched a screen scan his eyes, and that baby Jackal told him that he had to do something similar, since he was considered a visitor.
"I'm not doing that."
He wasn't logging in for shit. Wade moved on from the subject entirely, and Ezekiel watched that masked face turn toward his right. Wade wanted to push forward, and his mood was very calm. Oh, he was looking forward to a conversation with Charles Xavier, so he wanted to go. Ezekiel anticipated Wade's rebellion, so he pressed forward.
It was in the man's character and DNA to behave that way, so Ezekiel proceeded to Deliberation room 205. A large number of S.H.I.E.L.D. employees watched Wade and Ezekiel carve their way up to the room. The Jackal really wasn't in a rush, and he definitely wasn't planning on getting there early. He was dreading the review.
He felt very nervous about it, but his thoughts were strong about the vote. Ezekiel thought over all of the information he submitted for them to consider, and he strongly believed that things would turn in his favor based on that alone. The information he outlined was something that Nick Fury had been hoping and praying for, so… Ezekiel approached the door to room 205.
Wade's focus was on the S.H.I.E.L.D. employees. They were looking at his suit, and saying little comments as he walked by. "Deadpool" had developed a pretty bad reputation around law-abiding government folks, but… fuck them. He stood taller than all of them when he followed behind Ezekiel, and just for fun… he'd touch one of his weapons.
It amused Wade to watch them react. He touched the gun by his left leg a couple times again as he walked, and one by one they all flinched..
Charles Xavier's eyes locked right onto Ezekiel when he entered the room. The time was 9 a.m. exactly, but the group was casually standing around the room. The only person stationed at the large deliberation table was the psychic mutant. Xavier's chair was positioned there, and the man seemed ready to get down to business.
The room was quiet as fuhhhkkk… Deadpool was officially in the room, and he looked at everyone present. His presence there without any force or protest was surprising. Someone decided to mention something to him as soon as the "Surveillant Council" took a seat.
"Thank you for attending Wade. Your presence is deeply appreciated."
Surrrreee it was. Wade had to laugh a little beneath his mask, because Xavier seemed a little too sincere when he spoke. Deadpool definitely wasn't buyingthat lie, but he didn't comment. Ezekiel was a bundle of nerves. His eyes scanned the council members as they all sat down, and he was surprised to see that the numbers had expanded.
Steve Rogers and Tony Stark being present puzzled Ezekiel at first, but it made sense to him once the dust settled. Nick Fury told Ezekiel to sit down across the table, and the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. also mentioned that the review wasn't as formal as it seemed. Everyone in that room wanted to get a good look at Ezekiel, because his request for his own division was some serious shit.
"I feel like I'm at a job interview for the Post Office, Hell on Earth, or… Google. Holy shit."
Lighten the fuck up people. Wade could NOT take the vibes in the room at all. He didn't want to sit down at all either, and he was about to label it all as bullshit and call it a day. His eyes stopped at that shiny thing who quietly took his seat. Ezekiel sat down before them, and looking up toward Wade was the first thing that he did.
He wanted Wade to sit beside him. No. Ezekiel needed him to do that, and he didn't have to say a thing. "Deadpool" caught the drift, but he didn't comply right away. He didn't even want to touch the bullshit IKEA furniture. In fact, he wanted to take that sleek gun-metal office chair and hurl it out the window behind them.
They all knew it, and for every member of that Council… it was important for them to watch how Wade would behave.
Everything happening in that moment was important, and critical to how things moved forward. Deadpool didn't give a shit about those details. He planned to do what he planned to do, but the man also had a soft spot. He had a very big soft spot, so he took a deep breath and sat down in the chair.
It was a bit awkward with his swords, but fuck it..
"Now, thank you both for being here. Ezekiel Stane, you have submitted a detailed application asking to construct your own division within S.H.I.E.L.D.. I am the leader of your Surveillant Council, so it's mandatory for us to conduct a review of you, to determine if you are in a stable enough condition to have your own division. Once we decide, your application will be put to a vote."
Charles Xavier got the show on the road, and he spelled out the details in pretty plain English. Everyone in that room understood why they were there, but the mutant felt the need to carefully phrase the objective for all to hear. Xavier looked at every member of the Council, and then his eyes ventured toward Bucky Barnes. He did a headcount of how many votes were to be considered, then he returned to the young man in front of them.
"I'm sure you can tell that Stephen Strange is no longer part of your Council. He's been replaced by Tony Stark and Steve Rogers. His vote and insight about you will be included, giving your application nine votes total. Understand?"
…
Ezekiel gave a short nod, but then his eyes scanned the room. In that moment, he felt it was best to give more of a refined response. Wade was already annoyed, and getting bored. His hyper-active body was already moving around in his chair, and that shit was bananas.
"Understood."
"Wonderful. How are you this morning, Ezekiel."
The Surveillant Council review was about assessing exactly where Ezekiel Stane's mind, body and soul was at. The preservation of that mind, body, and soul was their top priority, and everyone on that Council cared about him deeply. None of them wanted to see him fail, or see him revert back into the person they met when he was 19.
"I… feel good. I'm good."
His soul, body and mind felt good. Ezekiel couldn't really look in Xavier's direction when he answered the first question tho. I mean, Wade was right there, and a lot had happened between them. Thoughts about his morning alone managed to tap into some deep and heavy emotion. Emotions being expressed were a good sign, so the psychic took a look in Wade's direction.
