Hey, what's up, fanfiction readers? Welcome to the next chapter of the story and thank you for everyone who have read, liked and followed the story so far. Originally, both the previous chapter and this one was going to be one chapter, focusing on Tobey's Spider-Man's journey to Earth-838, as well as his encounter with Earth-838's Carol Danvers and the fight against John Horton, aka Griffin, but I decided to split it into two parts since it was going to be a tad bit long. I also had pictured a scenario where Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, Ioan Gruffud's Reed Richards and Wesley Snipes' Blade joining the fight against Griffin and have them encounter Peter and Carol for the first time, but I decided to scrap the idea in favor of having Peter and Carol fight against Griffin with Wolverine, Reed and Blade meeting up with them shortly after.
By the way, I finally seen "Deadpool and Wolverine" last week and it was such a nostalgic-driven joyride that pays tribute to the pre-MCU era of Marvel movies, such as the Fox X-Men movies as well as the New Line Cinema Blade franchise, which I didn't really expect. Ryan Reynold and Hugh Jackman delivered on their performances and their banter was great as well as the main villain Cassandra Nova, who implemented well in the film. In case you haven't seen it, you really need to, because you will end up having the time of your life.
I want to thank both Aragorn II Elessar and Marcus S. Lazarus for their ideas for this chapter as well as helping out.
Disclaimer: I do not own the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four and Blade. They belong to Marvel Studios, Sony Pictures, 20th Century Fox and New Line Cinema.
New York, Earth-838
A few minutes ago
Ms. Marvel was flying around the sky and enjoying the moment as she used her binary energy to lift herself up in the air and pass through the clouds, laughing as she was floating in the air and letting excitement running through her body. She hadn't experienced such feeling since her days as a pilot in the United States Air Force, where she had joined in order to pay her way through college and obtained the rank of "Major", due to her experience in flying various combat airplanes, including the Mach four flight jet, which she had considered to be her favorite and had codenamed it "Warbird". Though she no longer flew on airplanes now she had superpowers, she still felt the same surge of adrenaline within her body whenever she flew in the air and loved every moment of it.
As she continued flying around the sky, Ms. Marvel then heard a scream from a mile away and flew herself to the place where she had heard the scream. Making her way through Union Square Park, Ms. Marvel saw the civilians were running away in fear as a large feline monster was terrorizing the park, throwing cars at the pedestrians and causing wreckage around the park as he let out a monstrous roar. She had encountered that monster before and was aware of his true identity.
The Griffin was once a small-time criminal named John Horton, who had been kidnapped by HYDRA and conducted various experiments on him, transforming him into a huge monster that resembled the Greek mythological creature named Griffin, who was half lion and half eagle. He had several encounters with various superheroes, including the Avengers and the X-Men, and eventually ended up imprisoned in an underground prison made built for superpowered villains called the Raft, but eventually broke out of prison and began roaming freely around New York, causing mayhem wherever he went.
Ms. Marvel let out a small sigh, as she had faced Griffin in the past, and charged at him, striking him in the back and sending him staggering to the the ground. She then saw the truck that Griffin was holding was about to land on the site where children were playing dress up as their favorite superheroes. One of the children was dressed up as Iron Man, while his friend was dressed up as Thanos and a girl was dressed up as Captain Carter.
"Avengers Assemble!" The girl said in a mockup British accent while lifting up her shield.
The young Thanos cosplayer laughed before raising his arm, which a toy version of the Infinity Gauntlet was placed. "You cannot hope to stop me, for I will rebuild this universe!"
"Not if we can stop you first," The kid cosplaying as Iron Man said.
Just as they were reenacting the fight against Thanos, the children stopped to turn around and see the truck reaching the land they were on. They noticed that the truck driver was inside the vehicle and was screaming for his life.
"Look at that!" The Captain Carter cosplayer said as she saw the truck coming at their way.
"Watch out!" One of the kids yelled, rushing at his friend and pushing him away.
However, just as they thought they were about to get killed, the children heard the sound of the truck getting stopped in its tracks, as if it had stopped falling at them. They turned turned their heads around and saw Ms. Marvel holding the car with her super strength, preventing it from crashing on them and saving their lives.
"Hi, kids!" Ms. Marvel greeted the kids as she held the car with her strength.
"Oh, my god!" The Iron Man cosplayer exclaimed as he saw Ms. Marvel saving his life.
"It's Ms. Marvel!" The Captain Carter cosplayer said as she was in awe in seeing her in action for the first time.
Upon saving the kids, Ms. Marvel then safely placed the truck on the grass, allowing the truck driver to get out of the vehicle and take some deep breathes. For a moment, the driver had assumed he was going to meet a brutal fate as he was about to get crushed to death, before he was saved by Ms. Marvel, believing that he had been saved by an angel.
"Are you alright?" Ms. Marvel asked the truck driver.
"I... I..." The truck driver stuttered as he had no other words to express his gratitude before running to her and hugging her. "Thank the gods you've saved my life. I thought I was gonna die."
"Hey, hey, take it easy," Ms. Marvel trailed off as she felt the driver's embrace. "You just need to take a deep breath now, okay? And you need to..."
Griffin let out a monstrous roar as he kept wrecking havoc across the park, interrupting Ms. Marvel and causing her to turn around and see the monster trashing the streets. Ms. Marvel knew that taking down Griffin was not going to be an easy task.
"Listen," Ms. Marvel said as she pulled away the driver. "There's something I need to do, so you'll have to wait for a bit." Ms. Marvel then turned around and saw the kids, who were amazed to see her in person for the first time, as they had dreamt for meeting one of the Avengers. "Hey kids, you need to be more careful when playing on the streets. No one should get hurt." She then turned to the Iron Man cosplayer, whom she had witnessed saving his friend. "You saved your friend out there, buddy. You're a real hero."
"Thanks, Ms. Marvel," The Iron Man cosplayer thanked Ms. Marvel for her compliment.
"Now, if you excuse me," Ms. Marvel said as she turned around and looked at the driver. "I need you take those kids away from the park."
"Are you sure?" The truck driver pondered. "You could get yourself killed out there!"
"Trust me, eveything's..." Ms. Marvel assured the driver as she grabbed the truck with her strength and threw it at Griffin. "Under control!"
As he continued to terrorize the park, Griffin turned around and saw the truck thrown at him, before punching through it with his fist and tearing it apart. Horrified by the way Griffin was able to destroy his vehicle, the truck driver then turned around and saw the children standing in the park and observing the fight, pushing them away and guiding them to the exit.
"Come on, this way!" The truck driver told the children as they followed him outside the park.
As the driver guided the children away from the scene, Ms. Marvel hovered herself in the air and flew her way towards Griffin, cracking her knuckles as the monster laughed at her sight.
"Ms. Marvel," Griffin sneered as he saw her.
"Well, well. If it isn't my old friend, Griffin," Ms. Marvel quipped. "How many times do I have to deal you down again?"
Griffin laughed at Ms. Marvel's remarks. "Too bad your little friends aren't here to save you."
"It's just you and me, buddy," Ms. Marvel taunted Griffin. "Luckily, I don't need their help to deal with you this time around."
Ms. Marvel then flew herself at Griffin and used her photon blasts to neutralize him, causing him to growl in anger at her. Griffin used his wings to float himself in the air and charged himself at Ms. Marvel, with the two trading blows at one another. Ms. Marvel avoided many of his attacks and countered them by shooting her photon blasts at him, hitting him in the chest several times. As Ms. Marvel kept shooting her energy blasts, Griffin began avoiding her attacks by flying below them and dodging the blasts, before charging himself at her and trying to attack her, only for Ms. Marvel to launch an uppercut that struck him in the chin and sent him staggering to the ground. Ms. Marvel then landed on the ground and positioned herself in her fighting stance.
"Alright, kitty kat, I don't wanna hurt..." Ms. Marvel attempted to taunt Griffin, only for her get struck in the face as Griffin took advantage of her position and attack her, sending her flying around the park.
Taking the fight to the inside the park, Ms. Marvel then quickly recovered and rolled herself back onto the ground, positioning herself into her fighting stance as she saw Griffin charging at her. She avoided Griffin's attacks as the monster attempted to strike her down, before Griffin swung his left arm at her, to which Ms. Marvel was able to grab it before it landed on her. Both Ms. Marvel and Griffin struggled for supremacy, as Griffin further pushed his arm at her while Ms. Marvel kept using her strength to prevent from getting hit, but felt that she wasn't able to push back any longer.
"Just... a little bit... more!" Ms. Marvel said as she kept holding Griffin's arm through her strength.
Using her full might, Ms. Marvel pushed away Griffin's arm and charged herself at him, punching him a couple of times on the chin. Ms. Marvel attempted to land another punch at him, only for Griffin to take the opportunity to land a punch on her midsection, causing her to groan in pain, before striking her in the face, sending her flying on the ground and knocking her out. After taking out Ms. Marvel, Griffin used his wings to lift himself in the air and fly his way around the city to continue his rampage.
Minutes later, Ms. Marvel regained consciousness and struggled to open her eyes as the world around her was filled with a blurry vision as she took a moment to recover her dizziness caused by her loss against Griffin, before widening her eyes and seeing the chaos outside the park, with the some of the cars destroyed and the civilians running for their lives. Picking up on her surroundings, Ms. Marvel realized that Griffin continued wreck havoc around the streets following their fight.
"Where would he be at now? I have to stop him before he continues his havoc across the streets," Ms. Marvel thought to herself.
Getting up back on her feet, Ms. Marvel summoned her photon energy to hover herself in the air and flew herself at high speed, intending to head to where Griffin was located now.
Making her way through Lower Manhattan, Ms. Marvel arrived at the site where Griffin was wrecking havoc and saw the pedestrians running away in fear as Griffin was destroying every car he came across and throwing it at some of the civilians. Though the civilians were able to run away before they were hit by the cars Griffin kept throwing, Ms. Marvel was horrified to see the streets being filled with destruction as Griffin let out a monstrous roar that caused the pedestrians' fear of him escalating even further. Suddenly, a man wearing a Spider-Man suit was swinging around the streets and sticked his hands on one of the building's roofs, facing against Griffin. Seeing this Spider-Man lookalike made Ms. Marvel perturbed, as she couldn't believe what was unfolding in front of her eyes.
"Well, well, looks like Halloween season came earlier this year," Spider-Man quipped as Griffin turned around and saw him sticking his hands to the building. "But you've picked the wrong place to play dress up!"
"Could it be him? He has the same reflexes like he used to have," Ms. Marvel thought to herself as she was overwhelmed by her surprise in seeing Spider-Man. "That's impossible."
Griffin growled as he charged at Spider-Man and punched the building he was in, though Spider-Man leaped away before the creature could attack him, causing him to destroy a portion of the building. Spider-Man then crawled up to him and began wrapping him up with his webs, trapping him.
"Easy there, buddy!" Spider-Man sarcastically remarked. "Be a good boy now."
However, the webs weren't enough to neutralize Griffin as he freed himself from his restraints and rushed at Spider-Man, who dodged his attacks and used his web blasts to neutralize the monster, but Griffin removed them off his face and struck Spider-Man in the face, sending him lying to the ground, before grabbing one of the cars and throwing at him. Having seen him in action, Ms. Marvel flew her way to Spider-Man, who covered his arms around his face, and grabbed the car with her super strength before it could crush him. Remaining still on the ground, Spider-Man lowered his arms and saw Ms. Marvel holding the car and glancing at him in surprise, like she had seen a ghost from the past.
"Peter?" Ms. Marvel said as she widened her eyes in shock upon seeing Spider-Man, believing him to be the Peter Parker from her universe, due to the fact he was running around in ta Spider-Man suit.
Overwhelmed by her surprise in seeing this Spider-Man lookalike, Ms. Marvel placed the car on the ground and kept looking at Spider-Man, still unable to comprehend the existence of another person wearing the Spider-Man suit other than her Peter Parker, which caused Spider-Man to be confused by her reaction.
"Um, I think you got me confused with another person," Spider-Man explained to Ms. Marvel. "I'm not the Spider-Man you know."
"What do you mean you're not the Spider-Man I know?" Ms. Marvel trailed off. "And why are you wearing this suit?"
"I can explain this in a moment, but right now, we need to deal with this big monster terrorizing the city," Spider-Man told Ms. Marvel.
Ms. Marvel turned around and saw Griffin wrecking havoc across the streets and letting out a monstrous roar. "Right. Looks like I won't have to deal with Griffin by myself. You think you could neutralize him with you webs a bit?"
"You bet," Spider-Man assured Ms. Marvel.
"Alright," Ms. Marvel nodded. "Let's move!"
Ms. Marvel summoned her energy to hover herself in the air and flying herself at Griffin, with Spider-Man joining her by shooting out his webs and catching up with her to fight Griffin. Griffin turned around and saw both Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel charging at him, letting out a malicious smirk as he realized he could easily take out the both of them.
"Hey, big guy," Ms. Marvel called out as she flew at Griffin. "We still have an unfinished business to deal with!"
"Two against one? This will be fun!" Griffin declared before letting out a monstrous roar and charging at Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel.
Griffin flew his way at Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel and attempted to attack them, only for the two heroes to avoid his attacks as Spider-Man leaped away from his attacks and Ms. Marvel flew around the beast and shot her photon blasts at him, distracting him enough for Spider-Man to shoot his webs at him. Griffin removed the webs away from his face and charged at Spider-Man again, who evaded his attacks by leaping away from him.
"You missed!" Spider-Man quipped as he dodged Griffin's attacks, provoking the beast.
Spider-Man dodged and leaped into the air to kick Griffin in the face, causing him to back away in pain before getting struck by Ms. Marvel's photon blasts. Angered by the way the two heroes were attacking him, Griffin charged himself at them, striking Spider-Man in the face and causing him to get stumbled on the floor. Upon seeing Spider-Man getting sent to the ground, Ms. Marvel charged up her energy and shot a powerful photon beam that struck Griffin on the chest and pushed him away to the ground. Griffin quickly recovered and charged himself at Ms. Marvel, before getting kicked in the face by Spider-Man, who had recovered from his blow he received from the beast and swinged his way to him. Upon recovering from getting kicked in the face, Griffin let out a malicious laugh.
"Let's see if you can catch this, bug!" Griffin taunted before grabbing one of the cars on the road and throwing it at Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel.
"Watch out!" Spider-Man shouted at Ms. Marvel as he saw the car being thrown at them.
Spider-Man leaped in the air and used his webbing to create a larger spider web that caught the car before it could hit both of them. Having observed Spider-Man shooting out organic webs from his wrist to create a large web, Ms. Marvel was bewildered by this fact, as the Spider-Man she was familiar with didn't have that ability, as he had to rely on his webshooters to create these webs.
"How could he do that without his webshooters? Peter wasn't able to do so," Ms. Marvel wondered to herself as she noticed Spider-Man's organic webbing and realizing that her Spider-Man couldn't do what the Spider-Man fighting Griffin alongside her could do.
Griffin then grabbed another car and threw it at Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel again, causing Spider-Man to shoot another large web which caught the vehicle and saved them both.
"You take care of the monster while I try to catch the cars," Spider-Man told Ms. Marvel.
"Alright," Ms. Marvel nodded before hovering herself in the air and flying at Griffin.
Griffin then grabbed three more cars and threw it at Spider-Man, who used his webs to prevent the cars from landing on him.
"Hey, what's the matter, big guy?" Spider-Man sarcastically taunted Griffin. "Is that the best you had to offer? I've fought bad guys stronger than you."
Griffin growled at Spider-Man as he was irritated by his quips before getting hit by Ms. Marvel's photon blasts. Ms. Marvel flew her way through Griffin, who attempted to stop her attacks by flinging his arms at her, but to no avail as he was overwhelmed by Ms. Marvel's beams and attempted to deflect them by shielding his face with his arms.
"Now!" Ms. Marvel ordered Spider-Man as she kept firing at Griffin.
Spider-Man leaped into the air and swung his way to Ms. Marvel, before jumping at Griffin and crawling behind his back.
"Now hold still, buddy," Spider-Man sarcastically told Griffin. "This won't hurt a bit."
Griffin sneered at Spider-Man and flung his right arm to attack him, only for Spider-Man to dodge it and use his webbing to wrap Griffin around, starting from his chest and ending with his legs, covering him with his organic webbing and preventing him from moving. For the final touch, Spider-Man used his webs to shoot at Griffin's mouth, preventing him from talking. Ms. Marvel landed herself on the ground and approached Spider-Man.
"I couldn't do this without your help. Thanks," Ms. Marvel complimented Spider-Man.
"No problem," Spider-Man told Ms. Marvel as he took off his mask. "We sure make a really good team."
Widening her eyes, Ms. Marvel's face was worn with surprise and disbelief as she examined his facial structures; the Spider-Man standing in front of her had brown hair, similar to the one she had known, but he looked much older, nearing his mid forties, and had a small stubble on his face as well as blue eyes. From seeing his face, Ms. Marvel was now convinced that this was not the Peter Parker she was familiar with.
"Is something wrong?" Spider-Man asked as he showed concern towards her.
"Nothing. It's just..." Ms. Marvel remarked before taking a deep breath and glancing at Spider-Man again. "You're not really him."
"I think that's what I was trying to tell you," Spider-Man noted. "When I went through this place, everyone was looking at me as if they had seen someone cosplaying as Spider-Man and I had no idea what was going on. What happened?"
"Well," Ms. Marvel spoke up. "Spider-Man, the one I knew, had died fighting against the Green Goblin not too long ago."
"I'm sorry," Spider-Man apologized, finally understanding why were the civilians confused in seeing him running around the suit.
"For a moment, I thought you were him, but I was really wrong. Guess that explains the organic webbing you have," Ms. Marvel told Spider-Man.
"Oh, right," Spider-Man said in an awkward tone, recalling getting asked by one of his counterparts about his organic webs.
"God, this is so crazy. I can't believe I just met someone who looks like Spider-Man," Ms. Marvel said.
"You're not the only one who's noticing this."
As they heard that voice coming from the streets, Ms. Marvel and Spider-Man turned around and saw Mr. Fantastic approaching them with Blade and Wolverine walking alongside him. Ms. Marvel glanced at Mr. Fantastic and saw how much different this Mr. Fantastic looked from the one she remembered, from his face to his suit, since she had never seen him wearing this Fantastic 4 suit before.
"Looks like we've missed the party," Wolverine said in a snarky tone as he looked around the streets and saw Griffin neutralized.
"I've fought against many vampires in my days, but this..." Blade said. "This is a whole level of weird."
"Reed?" Ms. Marvel asked as she was shocked to see Mr. Fantastic, who looked nothing like the Mr. Fantastic she was familiar with.
"Yes," Mr. Fantastic told Ms. Marvel. "But probably not the one you're familiar with."
And that's the end of the chapter. The scene where she saves a bunch of children in the park and lifts a truck with her super strength is taken from Marcus Reed's "Ms. Marvel" Issue 1, where she saves children cosplaying as superheroes getting crushed by the truck during her battle against Stilt-Man. The children cosplaying as the Avengers and Thanos was a reenactment of the fight before the Illuminati interfered by using the Book of Vishanti and killing Thanos on Titan before using the Infinity Stones to wipe out half of the universe, as explained in the actual film.
In the comics, John Horton was turned into the Griffin after getting captured and experimented on by the Secret Empire. Here, it was HYDRA who did the deed instead, since the Secret Empire had never appeared in the MCU. The fight between Griffin and Ms. Marvel is taken inspiration from "Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes" episode "Who Do You Trust?", which also sees her fighting against Griffin.
At the end of the chapter, Ms. Marvel and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man finally meet Ioan Gruffudd's Mr. Fantastic, accompanied by Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and Wesley Snipes' Blade. The next chapter will deal with Wolverine and Blade's first encounter before they were recruited by Mr. Fantastic, with another chapter focusing on Mr. Fantastic's venture on Earth-838 which will lead to his encounter with Wolverine and Blade before meeting up with Ms. Marvel and Spider-Man in this chapter.
