No-One But You (The Mystic Consultant) - Part 2
Chapter 92: Another Sunset (Part 2)
…
Did you know S.H.I.E.L.D. had its own coffee brewing in the building? Wade Wilson couldn't believe it when Ezekiel brought him down to the fancy little even had adorable baristas walking around, wearing cute little aprons and everything. Whoa, no shit? Deadpool was in disbelief. He ordered a White Chocolate Mocha tho, cuz those were delicious. Ezekiel only ordered a shot of espresso, and that seemed very fitting.
…
Before the third and final part of Ezekiel's "review" took place, the Jackal had found himself suddenly sitting in the coffee bar, with Wade. A glimpse of what he had going on in his mind was brought to light, so naturally, Ezekiel kept pretty quiet. The words "dominated" and "influenced" were still ringing around in Wade's head, so he took the quiet approach too..
But that could only last so long. Wade sat up straight, and he fired a comment about the council in Ezekiel's direction. He guessed how everyone would vote, but he said he forgot why there were going to be nine in total. He also asked the Jackal if his plans could be shut down without the vote. Through paperwork, Congress, or whatever… it all felt very political, and dull. Wade just wanted to get to the bloodbath, and also…..
He still wanted to talk to Ezekiel about him staying over (for months) and what it all meant. Things felt good, and Wade was more than happy to keep it going. First things first tho. Ezekiel answered the points Wade made in the order they were received.
"There are nine votes because Bucky Barnes will be providing three. One for himself, Agent Romanov, and Agent Barton. Stephen Strange has provided a vote, making it nine votes total."
Oh. Right. Deadpool gave a nod because the memory of that returned to him. Ezekiel looked down at his espresso shot with a small smile. As for Wade's second point, the application could stand as presented, and the only way for it to be "shut down" was for it to be voted out. Ezekiel chose to use that process for a very specific reason, so he smiled at Wade when he looked in his direction.
"Details within my division can be altered by them, but the application for it can only be shut down with the vote. It's all political, and it's the way S.H.I.E.L.D. has historically done business. In a way, I'm using their own rules and red tape against them."
Which is why Steve Rogers looked extremely pissed off. Ezekiel caught onto that from the start. That chess table between them had been going on in real life since the beginning, and now… Ezekiel had the soldier on the run. His move was quiet, and big. Now, it was Steve's move… and joining the Surveillant Council was only the set up to his next play.
That was a very smart move, and Ezekiel felt very amused with it. Wade saw that amused look and he kept studying his face.
"I'm expecting Steve Rogers to turn the rules and all of the red tape back against me, because he and I are playing chess together right now in this moment."
Say what? Wade had to gasp a bit. He didn't catch that at all. I mean, what now? His mind immediately centered on the thought of a physical chess game, so how could the two of them be playing chess in that moment? Uhh… the whole thing was weird, and Wade removed his mask in order to enjoy his yummy white chocolate mocha.
Ezekiel glanced at his face, and he noticed that Wade was utilizing Tony's technology in that moment. He normally did that when he wanted to do something devious, so the Jackal finished off his shot of espresso and tossed the small cup in the trash. It felt like a good moment to bring up what Xavier revealed, but…
The Jackal received an alert, and apparently the deliberations were already over. Perhaps, he was being called back in to answer a clarifying question? Either way, Ezekiel informed Wade that they needed to head back, and the mercenary did his best to suck down the rest of his coffee. He didn't have to drink the whole thing, so the Jackal had to laugh at him.
Wade chugged down that coffee all the way back to the deliberation room. He put his mask back on before he entered the room, then he waved at the Brady Bunch as soon as he walked in. The paperwork had been picked up, and the scene resumed itself exactly as it was before. Ezekiel sat down, then Wade stuffed himself and his swords into the same exact chair.
It had been a little over… thirty minutes, or whatever. Wade didn't give a flying fuhhhhhkk…
The Surveillant Council did their thing too. They got back in their seats, got all serious and ready to talk. It felt like Ezekiel was negatiating a record deal, or applying for a mortgage. Wade had an outburst of laughter about it once again, cuz, ok, whooo… He was expecting another lecture about their wonderful plans, or maybe just the vote? The vote would be cool, so Wade composed himself as best he could.
That's when Steve Rogers decided to take over the entire meeting. He spoke to Ezekiel first, and Wade noticed a pretty authoritative tone right away. The vibes were fierce in an instant, so Deadpool had to glance down at his waist. He didn't want to suddenly lift the table up with a hard-on, so the merc did his best to stay back from the wood table.
"I will be attaching some strict provisions to this division before the vote. Those provisions will be monitored by me exclusively, because I will always have my credentials here as Captain America."
Steve Rogers no longer worked for S.H.I.E.L.D., but Captain America always would. That version of Steve was present in that moment, but the man was only lacking his uniform. Ezekiel held a small smile after the "captain" revealed his move. The look on Steve's face was very serious, so the Jackal just gave him a gentle nod. Provisions were welcomed, and expected.
"Your sessions with Xavier will be changed to weekly, not monthly, and you will have a mandatory review with this Council every three months. Your division itself will go through a review every six months, and everything you intend to do will have to be approved by me."
WHAT? Wade was like… shocked as fuhhkk. He didn't know what was going on, and everything he heard was giving him warm and yummy goosebumps. The mercenary could barely contain himself, cuz Steve's mood was fire. He was a smooth rude dude in that moment, and Deadpool started thinking more about the chess game, thing.
Ezekiel heard the provisions provided, and he was certain that there would be more to come. Sticking a bunch of regulations and reviews wasn't an issue, because Ezekiel was hoping for their oversight. An approval from Steve Rogers was very important to him, so his face showed no sign of reservation or protest.
"I recognize your provisions. Will there be any others?"
…
Steve Rogers had a truck load of provisions that he wanted to attach, but the blonde settled on only one more after the group deliberated what was happening. He could tell that he was still sitting at the chess board with Ezekiel in that moment too, so Steve decided to tell him about his final provision.
"This division, ifit's approved, will have to go through a mandatory vote every year in order to continue. Your team, and everyone who voted here today will evaluate what you are doing. I'm doing this to make sure there is a provision in place to remove this division once a year."
Steve wanted it removed immediately, but it was up to the vote, and the soldier had already calculated the odds. Invoking provisions was Steve's only move to make, for now, and he wanted to make that notion crystal clear.
Steve also planned to find another way, and one that didn't involve Ezekiel putting himself in front of bloodshed and death. Ezekiel gave Steve Rogers another nod as his response. The Jackal knew that he had to vocalize his response to the group, but it took him a moment because "Captain America" seemed …
…
"I recognize that provision as well."
"Good. That opens your application up to the vote, and I vote NO."
…
That was, very expected. Ezekiel processed the heat coming from Steve Rogers, and then he processed the extremely sharp shut down that he immediately received. Emotions developed pretty quickly, because the Jackal felt rejected, and he had always been searching for Steve's approval. The first "NO" was a tough one, but Ezekiel powered through it.
He glanced up in Steve's direction, then he patiently waited to hear the other votes.
