No-One But You (The Mystic Consultant) - Part 2
Chapter 93: Another Sunset (Part 3)
Tony Stark wasn't done reviewing the information that was submitted, so he constructed a digital version of what Ezekiel proposed to do. His hands and eyes moved quickly over all the information, as Steve Rogers invoked his provisions.
Double trouble. Bucky thought about that as he watched Steve and Tony do their thing. The smaller brunette was skimming over the information with ease, and discarding things that he lost interest in. Clearly the brunette was picking that shit apart, and he was the only person in the room who hadn't said a single word. Tony's sharp eyes stopped at a certain block of information, then he looked over when Steve Rogers gave Ezekiel the first vote.
By the sound of Steve's response, the man provided him more of a FUCK NO to start it all off. Tony went back to reviewing the information that was in front of him, and he didn't look up again when Nick Fury immediately countered Steve's vote. The director of S.H.I.E.L.D. basically gave Ezekiel a FUCK YES, because, at the end of the day, all he wanted was to establish a partnership with the White Jackal and fix their rocky connection.
Fury said that he didn't care about Ezekiel's mental state, and he explained that by saying he had faith in the Surveillant Council to keep him in check. Fury was good with the division, and he ended his sermon by saying he was ready for them to get to work. Tony continued reviewing the information as another vote was mentioned. The third vote came from Charles Xavier, and he gave the room a polite and cordial no.
"Your mental state isn't as strong as you think it is, young man, so this puts more work on the rest of us. And as for you, Wade Wilson, I encourage you to confront your own corruption before you take this on any further."
….
Wade's eyebrow began to twitch a bit after Xavier gave him another friendly smile. Confront his own corruption? Yeah, no thanks. Wade was very well aware that blood was on his hands. Was the freak-shrink calling him a hypocrite tho, cuz that was next level petty once again. Deadpool only butchered the worst of the worst. The icky people who harvested the organs of nine-year-olds, or those that pimped out women who couldn't catch a break.
There was an exploitation element brewing about beneath his work, and Wade wasn't in the mood to explain himself.
"Thank you Yoda. Next?"
Wade just wanted the votes. Only Ezekiel seemed interested in hearing what the effing Council had to say. SEE PEOPLE, Ezekiel cared and Wade didn't. There was a nice balance going on with that, right? He thought about that and smiled. Ohhh… the other Yoda looking lady decided to cast her vote. Donna Strange appeared before them as the previous Ancient One. She planned to do that whenever her presence was needed with the Surveillant Council.
"Ezekiel, before I cast my vote, I want to know how Victor Strange is supposed to support the objectives of this division. You intend to have him as your, consultant?…"
There was no way in any hell. Donna already had her vote locked in, but she wanted to hear Ezekiel speak about her brother. Victor Strange hadn't been brought up at all, and with that, Ezekiel felt like he dodged a bullet. The words "Mystic Consultant" filled his mind when Victor's sister brought him up, and the Council got to witness a warm smile.
"Victor's involvement is honestly a facade. I don't need to have him as a consultant at all, but.. I need to have him involved in a minimal capacity."
Ezekiel had no intention of pulling Victor away from his responsibilities as the Sorcerer Supreme, but being able to "consult" with him was something that Ezekiel felt prepared to fight for.
"When I constructed my division, I could see myself slipping if he wasn't involved. I don't want him out there in the field with me in any way, but I have to have him as some sort of consultant. It's mandatory, or I'm doomed.."
Charles Xavier made an excellent point about his mental state, and Ezekiel didn't protest anything that he said. He truly loved Victor Strange, and the thought of going through all the field work, and processing everything going on could not be done without his presence.
"Victor is very dear to me, and I understand he is going to be very busy with his new role. I won't interrupt that, but …"
The Jackal noticed he was repeating himself. Ezekiel suddenly stopped talking, and he gave the older sister a small smile. He planned to argue his point further if he had to, but the young man already answered her question. He wanted to hear her vote, or her continued perspective if that's what she chose to do. It was all up to the Council, so…
"Thank you for explaining that. My vote is no."
…
Ok. Ezekiel took that hit, Steve's hit, and the hit he received from Charles Xavier. That was three no's out of the four votes submitted. The Jackal waited for another one to reveal itself, and his eyes started shifting a bit more toward Tony Stark. The brunette heard every word relating to Victor being his "consultant" and honestly, the entire subject felt a bit too close to home..
Technically, Tony was labeled as Steve's "consultant" so the brunette started processing all of that. He even glanced at Steve once or twice as Ezekiel explained himself, because could they be anymore on the same page? LOL…Tony felt ready to cast his vote after Donna, so he closed up his screens and he finally looked at Ezekiel Stane.
"Since I know exactly what it feels like to be literally kidnapped and trafficked, then hand delivered to a group of sleeze-balls for slaughter, I vote yes. Fuck um up."
Did anyone else on the Surveillant Council have that wonderful experience to brag about? No? Ok. Tony had a feeling that he was going to be having an interesting conversation with Steve Rogers as soon as they got back to Brooklyn. Their votes were like night and day, but Tony stood firm behind his decision.
That left four more votes. Three no, two yes. Bucky Barnes had three votes to give, and he didn't feel like an explanation behind those votes was necessary. The Winter Soldier wasn't at the table in that moment. He was sitting by one of the windows, because he wasn't part of the Council at all. He was there to represent Ezekiel's teammates, so Bucky looked at their leader and presented the votes.
"I vote yes. Natasha Romanov would vote yes, and Clint Barton would vote NO."
Ok. So, that was how many votes? Wade tried to recall and re-count. Steve Rogers looked like he just about died after he heard what Bucky Barnes had to say. The Winter Soldier was very short and to the point. Click, Click, Boom. Three votes. That left the decision at a tie, with FOUR YES's and FOUR NO's. There was one more vote happening too, and Wade felt excited to hear it. WAIT, the final vote was going to be delivered by… Captain America.
...
WAIT, WADE MAPPED IT ALL OUT IN HIS HEAD.
YES GROUP
1. Nick Fury(fuck yes)
2. Tony Stark
3. Bucky Barnes
4. Natasha "Romanov"
NO GROUP
1. Steve Rogers(fuck no)
2. Charles Xavier
3. Donna Strange
4. Clint Barton
...
The last vote was a tie-breaker, and Steve Rogers received Stephen's vote before the meeting. Everyone in that room could see that the blonde did not have a happy look on his .Steve looked friggen pissed, and it took him a while before he finally spoke. The anticipation was killlllinnnggg Wade, and the mercenary kept moving around in his seat.
"Stephen Strange told me that he looked into as many possible scenarios and situations relating to this division as he could. He voted yes, because of how many innocent lives are saved by this division in the long run."
Steve Rogers wanted to find a different way, and of course, Stephen provided the downfalls and reasons relating to why healmost voted no. Bloodshed had its repercussions. The blonde was very disappointed with the vote, but he said nothing further. Steve just left it up to Xavier to wrap up the meeting however he saw fit.
Wade Wilson was still processing, cuz wait, yes? Stephen Strange voted yes? Wade counted the number of YES votes with his fingers, then he tossed his hands up after he heard all of that. So, wait… they won? It felt like BINGO, or whatever.
"Thank you all, for your council."
Ezekiel gave them only that response, then he looked beside him at Wade Wilson. The Jackal got the new division that he wanted, so it was time for them to wrap things up in Milwaukee.
