Just to make sure no one is confused, Itadori at this time is twelve years old and a girl in this version.
"Within the core of each of us is the child we once were. This child constitutes the foundation of what we have become, who we are, and what we will be." – Dr. R. Joseph
A young girl shots up with a silent scream racing out of her throat. Her eyes instantly scanned around the dark room in search of an enemy.
The vision of her nightmare overlapped with the outline of her room. The once unsuspecting small shelves in the corner of her room now looked more like a slimy monster hunched over feasting on a body.
She could actually hear the sounds of bones cracking if she listened closely enough.
Her body shook as it greedily took in air, breathing fast and hard. The little girl's eyes shot every which way, inspecting her room with sharp eyes.
She needed to make sure nothing was hiding in the dark.
After what seemed like hours Itadori's body finally calmed down enough that she was no longer gasping for air.
With her eyes still searching the room, she slowly let go of her white knuckle grip on her blanket but only when she was sure nothing was hiding in the shadows.
Itadori moved her legs out from underneath the blankets then painfully slowly moved to the side of her bed. She was ashamed of how long it took for her to build up enough courage to actually put her feet on the floor.
She made sure to make no noise as she made her way out of the room. Of course she kept an eye out for any unwelcomed guest.
As she opened her door to make her way into the hallway, Itadori had to suppress a sigh when she noticed that the light was left on in the restroom.
With the light being left on, that meant that her grandpa must have left it on for her. Meaning the old man must have taken notice of Itadori's nightmares.
Making sure to be extra careful to not make any noise she slipped into the restroom closing the door behind her.
Itadori walked straight up to the step stool that was placed in front of the sink.
As soon as she was able to see herself in the mirror Itadori stared at her reflection, closely inspecting her features.
Her big light brown eyes were still there, her little noise was pointed up, her pink hair was messy from tossing and turning in her sleep but that too was still the same.
Yes, she was still the same.
Itadori started to run her fingers over her face slowly but roughly.
Almost as if she was trying to see if she rubbed hard enough her face would change.
She wasn't sure why she was doing this but it helped calm her down seeing that her face wasn't going to rub away and be replaced with the teenager's face that she kept seeing in her nightmares.
Itadori looked at herself again and couldn't help but think that her face had changed. She no longer looked like herself.
Not her features so much but the way her eyes looked back at herself. They now looked like they held a new edge to them.
Even to herself, her eyes no longer looked like her twelve year old self.
No, they now held intelligence behind them.
It didn't look right on her baby face. It creeped her out. Her eyes were no longer her own, they held a perceptiveness that most children didn't have. Hell, most adults didn't even seem to have the same look of awareness her eyes now held.
Something whispered in the back of her mind. "It because they didn't have the knowledge she held now"
But was that knowledge? Were the nightmares she was having even considered to be actually knowledge?
She took another look at her face. No longer looking back at her was her child self she knew. Instead stood a teenager that Itadori has never met but knows to be some version of herself just years older and a boy.
The teenager stood towering over her small twelve year old self.
Without thinking the child changed her face to wear the same void expression that the teenager wore. It was like they both were feeling nothing but emptiness. Like they weren't living but were in a constant state of nothing.
Itadori didn't know why the teenager was wearing that expression but she could feel the hurt that her older self seemed to feel.
It was a gut wrenching feeling that Itadori had never experienced herself. Yet looking back at the teenager Itadori, she could feel what the male older version was feeling.
Without her permission a few tears slipped from her eyes as she whispered to the teenager in the mirror.
"...who are you?"
But like before something whispered in the back of her mind. "You know who he is."
And perhaps Itadori did. The teenager in front of her was Her. Just older. More aged and mature than herself right now.
And a guy.
The nightmares she was having of this teenager maybe were in fact not nightmares but what the future actually held.
But that was crazy. Even though she didn't remember the majority of what happened in her nightmares Itadori was always able to recall the feelings that were brought with her dreams. The terror and hideousness that were now etched into her mind like some horrid tattoo.
Almost as if mocking her, Itadori was suddenly surrounded in pitch black darkness and the only thing that was visible was a colossal insect-like monster that towered over Itadori and the worst part was it was holding onto a girl with its large hand-like claws, trying to shove her into its mouth.
Instantly Itadori started to shake uncontrollably. The chains of fear clutching onto her and imprisoning her where she stood.
Even though she was begging for her feet to run away from this gruesome demon. They wouldn't listen, it was like she was stuck to the ground. Her breathing started to get stuck in her throat, it was almost as if fear itself was choking the life out of her little body.
As her vision started to fade from lack of air, suddenly the teenager appeared. Crashing through a window, even as the glass cut into the teenager's skin the older boy didn't stop his attack on the monster. He kicked and punched with all the might his teenager body would allow him. With one final kick he pulled the girl out of the monster's hands unfazed with his own wounds.
As he ripped the girl away from the monster's clutches, Itadori heard someone's voice.
"I'm afraid of dying" it was the older version of herself speaking.
It started low and shaky "I wonder if grandpa was scared of death?"
The young Itadori could see her older self fight without hesitation while protecting the school girl and boy.
The voice began to get louder "No, Probably not."
It held more control now "I cried because I was sad, not scared"
Little Itadori didn't even realize her body had stopped shaking. As her breath slowly turned to a more even pace as her older self continued to talk.
"The death I face now and Grandpa's ...death… how's it different?"
The scene before her slowly disappeared in front of Itadori's eye but the voice continued.
This time it was her grandfather speaking to her "You're a strong kid, so… help others"
Then it was the voice of a teenage boy that often showed up in her dreams. "You're not scared, huh?"
"Well I was, but people I know could actually die" the older version of herself replied easily.
Little Itadori was now face to face with her older self that looked back at her from inside the mirror.
They locked eyes as the teenager spoke. "So I figured that for the people I know, I want them to die properly"
Itadori woke up feeling well rested for the first time in a long time. She layed in her bed as she went over the events of last night.
After she came face to face with herself in the bathroom. Itadori decided that she will accept these dreams as reality or at least some sort of reality. Whether that be her future or some sort of twisted version of it.
She didn't know if her dreams were true or not but one thing was for sure was that it was easier to accept them, than fight them.
Instead of waking herself up at every little "flashback" Itadori sat through them. Almost as if watching a movie.
A movie that would jump from one point to another and sometimes they would turn blurry and unfocused. Hell even some of the people would start talking but no sound would reach her ears.
But a movie nonetheless.
A crappy movie.
A very creepy crappy movie now that she thought about it.
The pink hair child had a sense that they were based in some truth though. How else would she be able to explain the difference of perception she now has.
Before her dreams Itadori was a normal kid. She didn't think twice about much of anything. But now it seemed like she had much more self awareness than most children her age had.
So in some way these dreams were changing her. Perhaps into the older version she would see in the dreams.
She rolled over to face the clock on the wall. She would have to get up soon enough to get ready for school. The pink hair child decided that all this thinking would have to wait until later, it was making her head hurt now.
Instead she would deal with something much easier than figuring out the answers to her dreams. She will get ready for school.
She slowly got herself up. Sitting on the side of her bed she could hear her grandpa making his way to her room. Sure enough the older man knocked on her door, opening it slowly with his other hand.
Her grandfather spoke as he walked through the door "brat are you up yet?" His voice was gentle and low, almost as if he was expecting her to be asleep.
Once his eyes landed on itadori, the young girl could see a small frown form on the older man's face.
"Kid, do you think I'm too old to wake you up for school?" Her grandfather asked in a strain voice.
Itadori could tell her grandfather was worried. Before these nightmares the old man would have to practically drag her out of bed each morning. The young girl could sleep through an earthquake if she really wanted too.
She knew her nightmares were worrying her grandfather. But it wasn't just the nightmares alone, it was her actions that seemed to worry him. How she now became too mature for her age.
Almost as if he heard her thoughts the older man walked over to her and put his hand on her forehead. His voice annoyed but Itadori could hear the concern as he spoke. "You aren't sick right?"
Itadori shook her head no and spoke in an annoyed voice "no old man I am just getting old enough to wake myself up!"
Itadori hoped if she put up they're usual banter then her grandpa would stop worrying.
The old man didn't buy it for a second.
He pulled his hand away and looked down at his granddaughter's face. He stared at the deep bags that formed underneath her eyes and how her once chubby cheeks were sunken in from lack of eating.
He noticed that something was wrong about three weeks ago, maybe it was four weeks now but he thought it would have worked itself out by now. After all Itadori was a happy go lucky kid that had a smart mouth on her but she was happy. Or so he thought.
Maybe it was his own fear that stopped him from doing something sooner. The fear that if he took her to the doctor, they would take her away because he wasn't doing a good enough job at taking care of her.
Because of his own fear he ignored it but now he had to man up and deal with it.
"Just hurry up brat I got breakfast ready" Wasuke told her before he walked out the room. He made his way to the phone. Looking through the phone book. He called the number he needed to make a doctor's appointment for his granddaughter.
"Yeah, yeah old man, I'm hurrying." Itadori made her way to the restroom and did her normal routine. Brushing her hair took a little longer with all the tossing and turning she did because of her nightmares. It made her hair into a rat's nest. She fought to get it under control until she was able to put it in a high ponytail.
Itadori went back to her room and changed into her school uniform. As she made her way to the kitchen she heard her grandpa talking to someone. It was unusual to hear him on the phone with anyone.
As she turned the corner she heard him say her name. "Yes, Yūji Itadori. In three weeks on Monday at one. Okay thank you"
Itadori glanced at her grandpa as she climbed onto the kitchen chair to eat breakfast. She started to eat, waiting for him to get off the phone so she could ask what that was about.
She reminded herself to try to be mindful of her actions. To start acting like her "normal" twelve year old self and not the girl that these nightmares were maturing her into.
As soon as Wasuke put the phone down his granddaughter shouted, "who was that?"
Wasuke had to suppress a sigh with how loud she was being but once he turned around and saw her shoving food in her mouth and making a mess, He couldn't help the smile that made its way to his face.
"She was finally acting like a kid again" the old man thought to himself.
It scared Wasuke how grown up she was acting. It was like overnight she grew up. She ate slowly, spoke with a tone of intelligence she shouldn't have. She didn't leave a mess wherever she went. It was like she just switched off her usual messy whiny self.
So this made him smile, almost making him think he didn't need to make that appointment after all.
But something whispered in the back of his mind he needed to keep that appointment. So he answered his granddaughter's question. "It's for you brat. You have a doctors appointment in a few weeks on Monday"
Itadori paused for a moment and then proceeded to whin. "But i don't wanna"
The older man said in an annoyed voice that didn't have any bite to it. "Well to damn bad"
The pink haired girl shook her head no fast, as she looked at her grandpa. "I'm not sick so i gotta not go plus I have school."
She quickly shoved the rest of her food from her plate into her mouth. Getting up quickly and grabbing her bag. Itadori hurried out of the house as she called over her shoulder. "I got to go to school, can't hear you!"
Wasuke watched his granddaughter run out the house. His face turned into worry as he spoke to himself. "When did you start caring about skipping school?"
Itadori kept running as she made her way down the street. But as soon as she turned the corner, where her grandpa couldn't see her anymore. She took off like a bullet. No longer running like a child. No, she was running like her life depended on.
Ever since the nightmares started she couldn't help but run like this every chance she got. Itadori has always been faster and stronger than most kids her age but she never imagined she would get this much faster.
Now that she was pushing her body to the point of exhaustion each time she ran, she could see how much faster and longer she could run.
As Itadori ran she easily dodged around people moving in between people, buildings and objects with ease.
But it wasn't like that in the beginning. She was lucky if she didn't bump into somebody every five feet. Now though, after weeks of practicing she could make her way to her school at this speed and not hit one person.
By the time Itadori made it in front of her school the pink haired girl was barely breathing unevenly. If someone saw her they would have never known how fast she was running before.
Itadori made her way into the gates of the school but didn't go straight into the building. Instead she pivoted to the left and made her way to the school playground.
The pink haired girl threw her book back to the side and started to do stretches, with her movements you can tell she has done this plenty of times before.
Which she has, she started these stretches after the first time she ran to calm herself down gave her major cramps in her leg. Sending her to the nurse's office. The only good thing that came out of that visit was that the nurse was a nice old man that used to do Judo and he explained to her the need to stretch before and after a workout.
She usually ignored the before stretches but she still did the after ones. After her final set Itadori went over to the bars that were used for p.e.
She pulled herself up and started to do pull ups counting as she went. She kept going until her arms were shaking and threatening to give out on her. Itadori then pulled herself up all the way onto the bar, putting her legs over the bar and then falling back. Only her knees holding her as she hangs upside down.
Itadori didn't care if her skirt was hanging upside down as well, she had shorts after all. Her Grandpa would have killed her if she left the house without shorts underneath her skirt. Since even before the nightmares she was a wild kid that didn't care if her skirt flew up.
As she hung Itadori let herself catch her breath before she started to do crunches while hanging upside down. She kept going as long as she could, keeping count out loud as she went.
By the end Itadori was sweaty and shaky. She started to swing herself back and forth until she got enough motion to flip off the bar.
Itadori did a two roll flip landing on her back with a thud, knocking the air out of her lungs. Her eyes clenched in pain as she winced.
It took her a few moments to gasp and take in air greedily. But it felt like forever to her.
She laid there for a few minutes getting her breathing under control. As she looked up to the sky her mind wandered back to her nightmares.
Wondering if she perhaps was just going crazy, that's why she didn't want to go to the doctors. Itadori was afraid that if she went they would take one look at her and be able to tell she was crazy or even worse.
She wasn't.
The pink haired girl was pulled out of her thoughts by a voice.
"Still at it young lady?" the voice held a curious tone to it.
She looked over to where the voice was coming from. Standing there was the old man nurse that told her about the stretching.
Itadori grinned at him. She answered him as she got up to her feet. "Yeah, got to get my exercises in for the day"
As she got up she looked over at him. He was short even for an old person and he didn't have that leaning over curve that a lot of old people had. No, he stood straight as a board. His shoulders pushed back, always in a proper position whenever Itadori saw him. Which wasn't often but still he always walked and stood in attention. He had a full head of black hair that was cut short in a buzz cut. His black eyes held an edge to them, she could see that even in his old age.
"Maybe that's why all the kids are scared of him?" Itadori thought to herself. Hell it scared her when she first met him at the beginning of the year but now after the nightmares he doesn't seem scary anymore.
His deep rough dragged out. "Why are you training?"
"Hyogaiji-sensei I am just playi-" Itadori cut herself off as she looked into his eyes. Hyogaij's eyes were pinning her in place. Almost like he could see through her lies. For a brief moment Itadori debated with herself, Whether to lie to this man or not.
She sighed, closing her eyes as she came to a decision. Itadori opened her eyes looking back at the old man with a blank face. As she spoke, her voice was void of emotions. "I just need to get better."
Better at what? She didn't know. But no matter what nightmare she was having, it always gave her the same feeling.
That she could've done better.
It wasn't the fear or the horror that got to her now. Yeah she woke up silently screaming most nights, scared out of her mind. But what really got to her now. It was the feeling that something horrible happened and she could have stopped it, if she just trained harder.
The helplessness.
As Itadori looked into the old man's eyes she hoped she didn't freak him out too much with her quick change of expression. She was about to smile and take back what she said, playing it off as a joke. Since his facial expression didn't change at all.
But before she could he said in a no nonsense tone "Starting tomorrow, we meet here at six" after Hyogaiji-sensei turned and walked away.
Leaving Itadori confused about what just happened. One thing was for sure, the pink haired girl didn't want to see what would happen if she didn't come tomorrow at six.
Itadori looked up at the sky one last time before she turned and grabbed her backpack, walking to the entry of the building. Kids were already starting to make their way into the school building. Itadori slipped into the crowd. To start her day of pretending to be her old self.
It was hard as hell at first to be as empty minded as the rest of her class but she was trying to get back into it. The workouts helped her a lot. With her being on the edge of exhaustion it allowed her to not overthink too much when it came to her actions.
Before Itadori made her way to her classroom she stopped at the restroom to wash her face off. Trying to get some of the sweat and dirt off. Once she finished she pulled a towel out of her backpack. A thought popped into her head.
"I should probably bring an extra set of clothes" the pink haired girl thought to herself as she got a look at her wrinkled school uniform.
Itadori dried her face and put the towel away. She looked at herself one last time before she left for her classroom.
Hyōgaiji Kiku was many things.
He was stubborn, paranoid and quick to dismiss others' worries. But what retired soldier wasn't like him?
But these traits made his job a whole lot harder. Especially when he dismisses others' pain. No one wanted a nurse like him. But he wasn't even supposed to be working at the school for long. He was only working as a nurse for a favor to his friend who was the dean of the school.
They needed someone as qualified as he was on staff if they wanted to do extreme sports on school property. He was just supposed to be a figurehead and what was the harm in that? He got paid to sit around, read and smoke.
The other school nurses handled the children's injuries. Since Hyogaiji knew he would snap if he actually had to help a snot nose kid. That was crying because they scraped their knee. He was a first line medic that plugged bullet hole wounds not some parent that kissed boo boos.
So when a teacher ran into the nurses office holding a kid and yelling for help like the child was dying. It took all of Hyogaiji's willpower to not slap the guy upside the head for screaming so loud. Honestly the only reason he didn't was because when Hyogaiji looked over at the kid in the teacher's arms it looked like she had the same thought about slapping the teacher to shut up.
Hyogaiji suppressed a smirk at the thought but when he looked over again the kid was faking a wince. As the other nurse and teacher looked over her supposed injuries.
The old medic could tell right off the bat the kid was faking her pain. He rolled his eyes and went back to reading his book but the other nurse called out to him.
"Hyogaiji-sensei please call an ambulance right away" the woman's voice sounded fearful.
This caused Hyogaiji to roll his eyes because why would a kid faking their pain need to go to the hospital. He went to yell at them to stop being overdramatic but before he could the young girl yelled out.
"No, I'm fine, its just-" She said in a tight voice. But before the girl could finish the nurse cut her off in a serious tone. "No you aren't Yuji Itadori. I have never seen a calf muscle act like that."
Now this peaked Hyogaiji interest "act like what?" he thought to himself. He got up from his seat and walked over to the bed they put the young girl named Itadori down at. He pushed past the teacher and nurses who were talking among themselves about who they should call first, ambulance or parents.
The old soldier ignored them as he inspected the young girl's calf. As he grabbed her ankle to turn it towards him, the girl faked a winced, Hyogaiji ignored her. His eyes narrowed a little, once he saw what the nurse was so concerned about.
This girl's calf muscle was seizing, fluctuating in and out. Almost as if it was breathing. Hyogaiji couldn't believe he was seeing this on a civilian, hell he couldn't believe it was on someone so young.
He finally spoke to the other two adults when he heard them start to dial numbers.
"Don't call anyone she is going to be just fine" He didn't care that his voice came off annoyed.
"But Hyogaiji-sensei i have never seen-" "well I have" he cut her off. He looked over at the teacher and nurse who began to hover closer. He suppressed a sigh not wanting them on his back as he worked. "We need to give her space. Go back to your duties" he said in a demanding tone.
When the teacher and nurse began to argue back, the girl faked a wince again, this time being extra overdramatic as she cried out. "Ow it hurts so much"
This seemed to cause the two other adults to listen. They backed up and eventually went back to their own routine.
As the girl kept faking, Hyogaiji snapped out. "Stop faking it, they're gone"
Instantly he regretted it, not because he didn't want to be mean but because he didn't want to deal with a child that got scared and started crying.
But instead the girl looked over at him. It was like a switch turned in her head and she stopped. Her face switched to blankness that almost made Hyogaiji drop her ankle. "Yet another thing he hasn't seen since his time in the military" he thought to himself. He ignored the girl's face for now. One thing at a time.
Hyogaiji started to massage her calf in a technique that would loosen up the muscles, as he explained what was happening. "This happens when your body exercises too much at a fast rate and I'm not talking about that little run the school makes you do. I'm talking about running until you drop dead and even then it doesn't happen unless your body hasn't trained that hard before. You don't see this type of stuff often because people usually slowly start building up their stamina and muscle"
The older soldier looked back up at the girl to see if she was listening, which she was. Her blank stare watching his movements as he massaged her leg. Then it hit him, she should be crying out in pain. This shit hurt like hell and he knew it did and yet here she was staring at him with a blank face.
It made him feel uneasy with how well she was taking the pain but before he could feel completely unnerved by the girl. Her eyes rolled back of her head and she passed out.
Hyogaiji blinked.
"What the hell?" he whispered to himself.
Of course he checked her over for any other injuries that could have caused her to pass out. But he didn't find anything. But upon closer inspection he was able to see heavy bags under her eyes and the redness that surrounded her pupils when he opened her eyes.
She simply passed out. So Hyogaiji waited for her to wake up.
He waited and waited. The girl was asleep until lunch time and once she woke up it was a whole new thing to figure out. The little pink haired girl shot up like a bullet. A silent scream caught on her lips. Her light brown eyes were shooting around in every direction, they held a crazed look to them, some might say. But to Hyogaiji he knew that look too well. It wasn't a crazed look no, it was fear.
This girl was having a ptsd episode or maybe a flashback. Either way Hyogaiji knew that this wasn't good.
The older man didn't move a muscle. Not wanting to trigger the young girl anymore then she already was. He knew this song and dance like the back of his hand. Everyone knew what this was if you were in the military. He had to deal with it on a day to day basis in his line of work.
Being a medic in the military means that you had a whole training on how to deal with ptsd episodes. The do's and don'ts if you will. So Hyogaiji did what he was taught to do in this situation. An unknown soldier with unknown capabilities, that wasn't causing harm to anyone around them or themselves was having a flashback? You leave them alone and let them ride it out.
Hyogaiji sat there for a good hour and a half as the girl slowly came back to her senses. She ever so slowly came out of it. When he could see her eyes start to come back to reality and not be glazed over in a flashback he got up. He moved slowly, his arms tight to his body. Making sure to make no sudden movements.
Itadori looked over at him, her face no longer having that blank stare. He could see life behind those eyes.
He said calmly "My name is Hyōgaiji Kiku. The nurse here. You came in with the back of your calf seizing. More specifically the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles."
She nodded at his words only seeming somewhat confused. Hyōgaiji wasn't going to explain further since he already explained to her before she passed out. It was her own fault if she forgot.
Hyōgaiji then asked "how did that happen?"
The little pink haired girl looked up at him and spoke with a tone like it should have been obvious. "I was running"
The older man narrowed his eyes at her, not believing that answer but he wasn't going to call her out on it. After all, it wasn't his problem. He gave her instructions on how to stretch and then let her go back to class.
Yes, it wasn't his problem. That's what he told himself but for some reason he kept running into that little snot nose brat. And every time she would have that blank look when she thought no one was looking. It bothered the hell out of him for some reason seeing her like that. He should be used to seeing that look from all the years in the military. Everyone had that look to some extent if you served.
For some reason it unnerved him to see that look on a child but then again it would unnerve anyone if they actually were familiar with that look.
He mostly sees her in the morning doing her exercises. It was during that time he came to believe her answer. That she really got her calf muscles to seize up just by running. But little Itadori wasn't just running though. No, she was sprinting like her life was dependent on it.
It wasn't just her running, she worked out like that the entire time he watched her. At first he thought she would get tired and stop but she never did. She would keep going until she would literally drop dead. Well not dead but she would pass out quite often and each time she would wake up and keep going if she wasn't done with the set.
During this time Hyōgaiji had come to realize something about Itadori's blank face. It wasn't like she put on a fake innocent facade and her blank face was her real face. That's what he thought at first, that's what unnerved him so much. That she was a killer pretending to be a kid. No it was the opposite.
Hyōgaiji could see her act like a normal child and be one of the happiest ones out of the bunch. Smiling and laughing, it was actually quite annoying how hyper she could be but then just like a flash, her eyes were pulled back to somewhere else.
She was just a normal kid that would be pulled into a-... Ptsd episode? He wasn't a hundred percent sure what it was but he knew one thing the kid didn't like it.
Once it happened she almost looked ashamed of herself. Hyōgaiji didn't know what was up with this girl but again he tried to convince himself that it wasn't his problem.
He would tell himself he was just taking a smoke break that so happened to be in the view to watch her from afar. Hyōgaiji really did try to convince himself that he wasn't concerned even after watching for four weeks, of this little girl run herself into the ground.
Hyōgaiji finally decided to intervene when he got a closer look at her though. Her eyes looked worse than before, when he first met her. They had huge bags under them from lack of sleep. Her face was starting to get sunk in. Overall he didn't know how she kept pushing herself so hard in the state she was in.
She almost looks like a ghost of her old self.
So he walked up to her without thinking, which was a horrible plan. After all, he wasn't good with brats. So he said the first thing that came to mind.
"Still at it young lady?" he asked curiously if she was done for the day.
The little girl put her fake smile on even though Hyōgaiji could tell she was having an episode. "Yeah, got to get my exercises in for the day" she replied easily.
He decided to get straight to the point "Why are you training?"
He fixed her with the stare knowing that she would try to lie. Which she did even before she looked at him. But once her eyes met his and he held her gaze with a blank stare like her own. Hyōgaiji, seen her mask slip off.
"I just need to get better." she answered honestly, not hiding behind a fake facade.
But this answer threw Hyōgaiji for a moment. He thought she would say something like, trying to forget her past or whatever plague this child flashbacks. Instead it seemed like she wanted to grow past it. Which even to him was something that he didn't think of. So Hyōgaiji decided to lend her a hand.
"Starting tomorrow, we meet here at six" and he walked off. Wondering if he would be the best person to help this little girl but then again it seemed like he was the only one in this child's life to have noticed something was terribly wrong. That was saying something if he noticed something was wrong with a kid.
So with somewhat uncertainty Hyōgaiji Kiku decided to help Yūji Itadori.

That didn't detour her though, she rubbed the back of her neck smiling as she said sheepishly, "I need to borrow your long legs" She pointed to the vending machines. "I can't reach the button I need"
He stared at her for a moment but to Itadori it felt longer with how intense his blue eyes were looking at her, even behind the sunglasses he wore she could feel them on her.
The white hair teenager snickered at her dilemma and said with a smirk. "Alright, you can borrow my long legs"
