Captain Samantha Carter supressed a sigh as she looked around the small costume store in the small town. This was not how she usually spent her Halloween. It was usually a nice glass of wine, just one, and the latest Astrophysics peer reviewed paper. But she had spent the last two weeks training the APC and Tank crews at the Sunnydale Army Base on the new operating system she had written, rather than her usual posting back at the Pentagon.

She had hoped that the training would have finished a few days ago but it took longer than she planned, which meant Halloween had come around and the Commander of the Armour unit she was teaching, a Colonel, had announced there was a Costume Halloween party on tonight and attendance was mandatory. So here she was, trying to find a costume that fit the theme of 'Medieval'.

The only Medieval costumes she had seen so far in this place, the costume store closest to the base, were for men and she was considering having to go to the other costume place, all the way across town, when she turned a corner and saw an outfit on a mannequin. It was an elegant dress, with a divided skirt and a fitted blouse section with long sleeves, but no corset, mostly in green with some cream panels and blue trim. Over the shoulders was a shawl that had an intricate vine embroidery on the back, except for a stylised teardrop, point up, on the back in white and a green fringe. On the hand of the mannequin was a golden ring. Next to that mannequin was an empty male mannequin that seems to have been paired with the dress.

"Classy elegance, is it not?" a British voice said from behind her, causing Sam to spin around in surprise. "Oh, I startled you. I must apologies. My name is Ethan Rayne, proprietor of this store. Please allow me to give you a 20% discount on that costume by way of an apology."

With a sigh, Sam nodded and accepted the costume.

The dreams, or perhaps memories, flashed through Sam Carter's mind. Growing up in a minor Kandori Noble House on the Borderlands. Losing two older brothers to the war against the Blight before she was twelve. Going to the Capital, Chachin, with her father and mother at age sixteen, being seen by the Aes Sedai advisor to the Kandori Queen and told she could learn to Channel. Nine years as a Novice, six as an Accepted before being raised to the Shawl as a full Aes Sedai and had chosen to join the Green Ajah, the Battle Ajah, though she had considered Brown Ajah and White Ajah as well.

Two years after obtaining the Shawl, she had bonded her only Warder, though many Greens had multiple Warders, and they had been bonded for thirty years, travelling and fighting, mostly Trollocs and Myrddraal.

Sam jerked awake into total darkness of the private Visting Officer's Quarters on the Sunnydale Army Base. Without thought she Channelled and created a ball of light that floated over her hand. After the dreams and what had happened on Halloween, she was both surprised and unsurprised about the ball of light. The scientist side of her examined the ball of light and the flows of fire and air that made up the ball.

Flipping on the overhead light and letting the ball of light dissipate, Sam closed her eyes and felt out. She could feel him, though he was moving away most likely by car as his presence was not fading fast enough to be on a plane. He was healthy, she could feel that but not his emotions, and she knew that he would be able to feel her too.

Eight Months Later.

Sam stepped out of the car in the base parking lot and walked towards the tunnel entrance. She checked the mental wrapping around the bond that masked her feelings and emotions from her Warder, which she had applied before leaving Washington. She had done this every time she was sent to a classified location or was in classified briefings. Since Halloween there were three sides to Sam Carter, where before there had been two. One side was the Air Force Captain, her warrior self. The second was Doctor Carter, her scientist self. The third side was Samantha Sedai, the trained and experienced Aes Sedai, who had the power that drives the universe at her fingertips.

Her mind wandered through a number of things as the first and then second elevators descended.

"I prefer to pick my own team, Sir." A strong male voice said.

"Not this time, Colonel. Captain Carter's assignment is an order." Another voice said, one she recognised as General Hammond, an old friend of her father's.

"Where is he transferring from?" the first voice asked.

"She is transferring from the Pentagon." Sam said as she stepped into the room. "Captain Samantha Carter, reporting for duty, Sir."

She saluted General Hammond and then turned to the Colonel he had been talking to and stopped in shock. She was so shocked that the mental wrapping around the bond failed and she could feel his shock echo back into her.

His nametag said O'Neill but she knew him better than that. She had known him for so long, even if they had technically never met.

"Jonathan Gaidin." She said softly.

"Samantha Sadai." He replied with a nod of his head.

"So, you do remember." She said with a raised eyebrow.

"Colonel O'Neill, Captain Carter. Care to explain?" General Hammond asked.

"Sir, this is… extremely classified." Jack said. "Can we talk in your office?"

"Everyone else, dismissed." Hammond said and gestured Sam and Jack into his office.

"Colonel?" Hammond asked after they were sitting in his office and the door was closed.

"General." Sam said. "It kind of involves alternate universes, quantum entanglement and energy manipulation without machines."

General Hammond started to rub his head, feeling a headache coming on.

"Oh yeah." Jack added. "Does the US Airforce recognise marriages in alternate universes?"

Hammond groaned and Sam shot Jack an exacerbated look. One he knew quite well.

Jack looked around the corridor, opened a door to an empty office and allowed Sam to proceed him inside. Sam leaned against the office table as Jack closed the door and gave a quick gesture of her hand.

"We are warded against eavesdropping." Sam said. "So, what were you doing in Sunnydale?"

"Leave after the first Stargate Mission." Jack said. "It was supposed to be a suicide mission. I had divorced my wife after my son died."

Sam simply nodded at that, not overly surprised. Something similar had happened before she had bonded him, or at least that is what Samantha Sadai's memories said, and she has given him reason to live again. At first, she had given him purpose, then friendship, later love and marriage. It felt so right to be in his presence again, like her old quarters in the White Tower, or familiarity of her saddle and travelling clothes.

Jack took a second to run his hand down the side of her face, and she could not help leaning into the caress.

"You don't have the look anymore." He commented. "Somehow you don't seem fully you without it."

"It's starting to return." Sam replied. "The Three Oaths are in full effect."

There was a signature ageless look to an Aes Sedia who had been raised to the Shawl slowly began to take on, which to those who knew what to look for was as much a sign as the Great Serpent Ring or the formal Shawl, trimmed in their Ajah's colour.

"Come on, we need to get ready to go to Abydos." Sam said.

"This is going to be hard." Jack said. "The Giadin in me is so used to following your orders, but the Colonel in me says I should be giving the orders to a Captain."

"And what do they say about your wife?" Sam said with a sly grin.

"Listen to what you say but you aren't always right." Jack replied.

"We are both different from when it was just Samantha Sadai and Jonathan Gaidin." Sam admitted. "We'll have to find a new dynamic. I'll see you at the gate."

With that Sam walked past Jack and he simply stared after her for a few minutes before he followed her out of the office to get his own gear ready.
