Sam sat waiting for her moment, as most of the rest of the people in the large stone cell cowered in fear or milled about in confusion after the 'Gods' had left. Jack was trying to convince one of the armoured guards, who seemed to be more aware of what was going on than the rest, that Jack could help these people.
The last few days had been a whirlwind. Meeting Doctor Jackson and his 'prize' bride, Sha're. Finding out about hundreds of other Gate Addresses. The attack on the Abydonians. Sha're's abduction. The mission to this planet. The dinner party. The capture. Skarra's selection.
The first of the other guards fired his weapon and it passed close by Jack. Sam smiled. That was enough for the Third Oath. Her Warder was threatened. She opened herself to the True Source, to Saidar. She was the flower bud opening into the light, a delicate Orchid flower. Saidar flowed into her and her every sense was enhanced. She could see every detail of the armour of the guards on the other side of the room, hear every shuffle of feet and rustle of clothes in that eternal instant between when danger appeared and the minds of the others decided to panic, and smell the dirt; sweat and fear of the room.
Weaving fire with just a few threads of Air to make the bolt more coherent and penetrative, her own secret adjustment to the weave, she launched a firebolt at the nearest of the guards advancing on them, punching a hole clean through the armour on his chest and exploding inside his body. A second firebolt was in the air when another of the guards was hit in the chest by a concentrated energy bolt. A quick glance showed Jack had the Staff Weapon of the guard he had been trying to convince, and that guard was snatching up another Staff Weapon, aiming it at the advancing guards and fired.
Sam sent another firebolt at one of the five remaining advancing guards before she stopped and let Jack and the friendly guard finish off the rest. Sam was not overly strong in fire, but that was not why she stopped. She started making a quick round of the few prisoners who had been hit by the guards' fire. Most were dead from either the impact trauma or the thermal energy transfer into their flesh. She was weaving the flows of Healing on one child who had been grazed in the arm when she heard Jack call for people to clear the back wall and he began to fire his Staff Weapon repeatedly at the stone, blowing away chunks of the stone.
"She will recover, probably without a scar." Sam said to the child's parents. "But she is going to be hungry. You need to get food into her as soon as you can."
"Let's move out." Jack called and everyone started moving.
General George Hammond rubbed his temples as he sat in his office staring at the red phone, trying to decide how to explain what had happened without sounding like he had lost his mind. Human refugees from Alien Worlds, enemies who though they were Gods, a defecting Commander of the enemy army. And that did not even get into the whole thing with Captain Carter and Colonel O'Neil.
When he picked up the phone, he was put through not only to the President but the Joint Chiefs as well. In a calm measured manner Hammond explained everything that had happened, including what Carter and O'Neil had explained to him and the fact that SG2 as well as Doctor Jackson and the refugees had seen Carter throwing firebolts from her bare, unadorned hands in the middle of the fighting to get back through the Stargate to Earth. There were a few moments of silence after he finished, so silent that Hammond concluded he had been put on mute, before anyone answered.
"This will have to fall under the Sunnydale Protocol." The President said.
"Agreed." General Ryan, the head of the Airforce, added. "Hammond, you are to keep Carter and O'Neil on the same team. The Frat Regs are waived for them, and we will update their service records to show their marriage. Civilian Records too."
"I can understand recognising the marriage but them in the same Chain of Command…." Another of the Joint Chiefs said.
"Admiral, Carter now has direct access to the energy source that drives the universe." General Ryan retorted. "You do not want to separate an Aes Sedai and her Gaidin, especially in a combat posting like the SGC. If Carter dies, O'Neil will go insane and either seek revenge or his own death. Plus, they will be able to find each other anywhere in the world and know the physical condition of the other."
"That was not in General Hammond's brief." The Admiral said in shock.
Hammond was almost as shocked at the revelation, as he had not been told that.
"Let's just say I have access to a… primary intelligence source." General Ryan replied. "And it's not even classified. Hammond, keep them together, keep them happy."
"I am authorising this Alien… Teal'c, to join SG1, alongside Doctor Jackson." The President said. "Give SG1 latitude, General. As long as they are trying to save Earth and it doesn't involve Nukes, let them do it. If it does involve Nukes, then run it by us."
"Understood, Mister President." Hammond replied before the connection went dead.
Jack sighed as the door closed behind Daniel Jackson. Sure, the geek had grown on him during the first mission but for the last half an hour Jack had wanted the other man to leave. Walking back into the living room Jack saw the reason he had wanted Daniel to go, sitting on the couch with a slight smile on her face.
Hammond had told them earlier, in a private meeting, that the Airforce was willing to recognise their marriage and would keep them on SG1, but Hammond expected them to keep things professional on base. Their Status as Aes Sedai and Gaidin was unofficially acknowledged as well. At that point in the conversation, Sam had reached into her Uniform blouse, retrieved the Great Serpent Ring form where she had it hanging from the same chain as her Dog Tags, and put it on the middle finger of her right hand. Hammond had simply looked at the ring and then nodded.
Jack settled down on the couch and Sam snuggled into his side, with his arm wrapped around her shoulders.
"I missed you, my Gaidin and husband." She said.
"Honour to serve, Aes Sedai." Jack replied. "I am going to take my sword in from tomorrow and keep my Wader Cloak in my Off-World Pack. Also, your daggers ended up with in my costume, I have them upstairs."
The Three Oaths prevented an Aes Sedai from using the One Power as a weapon 'except against Darkfriends or Shadowspawn, or in the last extreme defence of her life, the life of her Warder, or another Aes Sedai'. While many Aes Sedai solely depended on their Warder in dangerous situations, except the Reds who did not have Warders but most of whom believed almost every male was as good as a Darkfriend anyway, Samantha Sedai had been Kandori and had been trained to defend herself unarmed since she was a girl, but after she had bonded Jonathan Gaidin he had taught her to be very proficient with a pair of long bladed daggers, for dangerous situations where she was constrained in some way from Channelling and he could not protect her. Also no one expected an Aes Sedai to bear weapons so it was way of defending herself most would not see coming, and the surprise had saved both their lives more than once.
"I just want to lay here for a while." Sam said as she closed her eyes.
The feeling of his hand running through her hair calmed them both.
