A/N: I'm back! I know it's been since December since I last posted a story. But since I've been taking care of my adopted grandmother with dementia and focused on other things mom needs my hep with I haven't had time and energy to write. I may not post as much since I'm going through this situation and finished a book series.(for now) I thought now seemed like good time post for once since I currently got the energy. I thought about this story for quite a few years and figured Roland needed finally tell Amber and James about his first wish/ about how their biological mother died. Please read and review.

It's Time You Knew

"The blue works better for you, Desmond." Amber said in approval as she looked around in Desmond's walk-in-closest in their newly decorated room.

With the wedding and coronation days away for the Enchancian royal family. The palace servants worked hard getting decorations up, guests rooms cleaned and many other things that were needed for the occasion and beyond. "I like what we've done with our room. To me, everything looks perfect, Amber." Desmond praised his future bride with a kiss on her cheek. "I can't wait to see what great things you and I will accomplish together in the future."

"If wedding preparations, room decorations and fashion advice on your tuxedo made you come to that conclusion, Des. I can't wait to hear what you think when you hear about the time when she was queen for the day," James popped into the room with a big grin on his face as he poked his head in between the couple before Amber could deliver a kiss in return. "That story could be a foreshadowing to what Queen Amber will be like."

Glaring at the intruder, Amber crossed her arms and huffed at her twin's rudeness. "James, if you want come into our room it would be more polite to knock first. We could have been in the middle of a fitting!"

"Oh, don't worry. I listened to make sure of that," James said as he looked around the room that the servants had finally finished decorating. "And considering how your old room has been under construction, Amber. I doubt you love birds could have used this room yet. It would be wrong if Desmond saw you-"

Before James could finish Amber used her fan to hit him. You don't need to finish that statement, dear brother." The future queen said as her face turned red with embarrassment. "We very well know the rules of before and after a wedding."

"Speaking of the occasion thank you for taking on the role as my best man. James." Desmond added. "I couldn't think of no one else who would be best."

"That's what friends are for." The blonde answered back. "Now that you'll be living with us soon. Maybe you and I will have some brother time outside of work hours."

Uh, well..." Knowing what brother bonding time James was implying; Desmond wasn't sure if he'd still fail at using knights armory and weaponry. The last last he tried that at Royal Prep he had not done so hot.

"I won't take no for an answer, Des. Besides, what kind of king would you be if you didn't try dueling with a sword. You have to bond with me and sharpen your skills you feel is your weakest. What would the knights say if they knew their king wasn't good at using a sword?"

"I know. Now that you are done with your room decorations with Amber. Why not take a break and duel me. Let's go!" James said as he tried leading his future brother-in-law out of the room.

"I'm afraid your brother bonding time will have to wait, Prince James," Baileywick entered through the room to stop the prince from pushing the fair-haired prince out. "Your father would like a word with you and Princess Amber in private in the drawing room."

Relieved that the steward had saved him, Desmond stood aside and made a note to thank the man later on.

"Is something wrong?"

"I'm afraid you will need to find out for yourself."

"While you are having your meeting I will go see that my clothes start being moved into our room." Desmond informed Amber. Giving kiss on the cheek good-bye the prince left the room.

When the steward and the twins reached the drawing room they saw that their father was the only one waiting inside for them. "Are mother and Sofia on there way?" The princess's voice quivered in fear. "Are they in trouble?"

"I'm afraid what I need to discuss only involves the two of you." Roland said in reassurance. "Your mother is seeing to the food preparations in the kitchen with Chef Andre. And you can guess where Sofia is..." He trailed off with with a chuckle.

"With Cedric and Calista I bet." The blonde prince joked as he and Amber went to sit down on the couch. "Ever since Sofia started courting Cedric she can't keep herself away from her boyfriend for a minute!"

Rolling her eyes Amber turned her attention towards her father. The sooner they got done with the discussion the sooner she could get back to the wedding preparations. "What do you need to discuss with us, daddy?"

"Would you like me to leave you three in private?" Baileywick finally spoke. "I could go check to see if Violet has the dinning hall ready for dinner."

"Yes. That will be fine. Thank-you, Baileywick."

"Very well, Your Majesty. Call if you need anything." The man said with a bow as he left to see to the rest of his duties.

Once the trio were left alone the room fell silent as the twins began to think of the subject their father wanted to discuss. While Roland was trying to think of a way to start the discussion.

Taking a breath, he finally looked up at his children. "Amber, do you remember the time you turned Sofia into a cat?"

"Oh," Amber groaned. "Don't get me started with that. Yes, I was jealous of Sofia getting all the attention. And I apologized for my mistake. Not only will I regret that decision but I think all the running and exercise I got that day was punishment enough!"

If the situation hadn't been so serious right now Roland would have laughed but instead he just gave a tiny chuckle at her statement then continued. "Well, after we turned Sofia back to normal you learned I had one wish remaining to be given to the wishing well."

Realizing where this was going Amber gasped while James was confused. "You mean you are finally going to tell us what your first wish was!"

"Yes, I think it's time you two finally were told the truth about my first wish and how exactly your mother died."

Seeing that he had their attention Roland told the story of how they tried so hard to have a child. But after a while with no luck he sought the wishing well. "After I wished for us to have children your mother became pregnant with you two. On the day of the delivery there were complications..."

Seeing the twin's faces it was only normal to see that their expressions had turn into sadness. "Your mother fought so hard to give birth to both of you. To give you life. But while you two have survived she ended up dying."

"And I thought it was some sort of disease that had taken her away from us..." Amber finally spoke.

James remained silent. He wasn't sure what to say about this. Now that they knew how their mother died the prince couldn't bring himself to speak. For once, all his jokes and laughter were gone as the young man tried to process this information.

"Before she died she wanted me to tell you to live to the fullest. Be all that can be. And don't let her passing get in the way your life. Fulfill your dreams," Roland continued "James, she would have been proud of you fulfilling your dreams to be a knight. And she would have been proud that you are becoming queen, Amber. I know you will reign just as gracefully as she had as queen."

After hearing that from their father, Amber finally broke down and sobbed.

James, being the loving brother as he was pulled her into his arms. This was just like those times whenever they were little. They would wonder what it would have been like to have a mother.

While Miranda had been a good mother to them they knew she would never replace the former queen. The twins loved both women. Even when they hadn't met or didn't have any memory of one of them.

Finally calming down, James let go of Amber and let her wipe away the tears from her handkerchief. "Thank-you for telling us the truth, daddy."

"I probably should have told you sooner when you were younger but I wanted to wait for the right time. so I know you would understand."

"We understand, dad."

"She loved both of you very much."

After the trio consoled one another Amber gave idea of the three of them bringing flowers to her grave in the royal cemetery.

Agreeing that this would be good time do it. Roland and the twins left for the royal cemetery with flowers after dinner.

At first, no one spoke as Amber laid the flowers down in front of the gravestone. Then Amber finally spoke; surprising both men. "Thank you for fighting to give us life."

"Even though you knew you wouldn't make it. You kept on fighting anyway." James added. "Amber and I will live to the fullest and making every moment count."

"Life is too short to be wishing what could have been. At times, I wanted so much to bring you back.. ..but now I see there are other reasons worth living for. We are grateful for people we have now and love them very much."

"James and I both love you. And we intend on making you proud."

Seeing that the twins had spoken their peace Roland decided to have his turn. "After your death, I never thought I would be happy again. But in a way, I think you knew I would find love and joy again. I think you also knew change would come as well. And you wouldn't believe what great changes we have had. We will continue to keep your memory alive by doing what you wanted us to. We will never forget what gave to us and the kingdom but more importantly: We won't forget the love you have for us."

After the three royals said their peace they walked back to the flying coach with a light wind blowing the petals to the sky.

A/N: I had a hard time figuring out how to end this story. I hope it was good and I'm not too rusty. I had thought of adding Baileywick and Cedric into this too but wasn't sure canon-wise what their relationship to the queen was like if they even had one. And while I do realize she does have a name I will never be right on how to spell it. But trust me I do know what the former queen's name. Please review!
