No-One But You (The Mystic Consultant) - Part 1

Chapter Five: Astronaut In The Ocean (Part 5)

...

Victor was pretty friggen angry.
He took off as fast as he could, because an intense anger consumed his body and soul.

Of course Stephen tried to talk to him, and it just rubbed Victor the wrong way. The youngest sibling wanted to break something as he ventured out of Manhattan.

He didn't really plan to go anywhere, but he just had to go.. His overly friendly roommate was someone named Clint Barton. "Agent" Barton worked for S.H.I.E.L.D. so Victor did his best to avoid him as well.

They were the same age, but Victor seemed to be on a different planet. Being with Ezekiel Stane really changed him, so the baby sorcerer's demeanor had become standoffish.

He entered the apartment abruptly. Victor saw a low glow from the television toward his right, and he knew immediately that Clint was home. The baby sorcerer almost turned back around. Turning around was a bit of a lost cause, because Victor didn't really know where else to go.

Wong was most likely at the Sanctorum, and Victor wasn't in the mood to explain himself. He was unable to return to the home he was trying to build with Ezekiel, so he tried to just get to his room.

His bedroom was on the opposite side of the apartment. Victor could have used a portal, but...

"Hey. Did you bring back any cake?"

Victor lingered by the door, and he gave his escape plan too much thought. Clint Barton was able to acknowledge Victor's return, and he decided to greet him at the door.

Any cake? Victor had to process what was said. He kept looking at his friendly roommate, and...

Clint looked pretty comfortable. He had a confident aura about him that Victor could feel. The archer also had sense of humor going on whenever he spoke. It often amused Victor, but he worked for S.H.I.E.L.D...

"I left."

Victor felt like he ruined the birthday celebration, but he had to leave. He couldn't face Stephen, so he summed it all up as a bad idea.

His friendly archer roommate asked him if he wanted to play some "Twisted Metal", and Victor hesitated. He used to play video games all the time. The baby sorcerer even played a few games with Clint back when they first met.

They met in the safehouse that also served as Ezekiel's domestic prison.

"Are you working? Working, while you are here?"

Victor had to ask. He stared at his roommate. Barton's comfortable demeanor didn't falter. He fixed his t-shirt a little, but he maintained a friendly response.

"No, I'm not working. I'm actually on vacation."

It was a well deserved vacation, but Clint didn't plan to bounce around. He moved around a lot as he worked for S.H.I.E.L.D. so, staying in one location was just next to heaven.

Moving in with Victor Strange was an idea that was presented to him, so the archer felt like he had to clarify what he was doing.

"Do you think I'm gathering information on you, or reporting what you do?"

Clint wasn't that sort of field agent. He wasn't sure if Victor understood that, or if he knew any of that information. The archer waited for him to reply, but Victor remained silent instead.

He was a bit frozen where he stood. The baby Strange felt like he couldn't get a grip. He shrugged a little, and Clint smiled.

"Wanna play Twisted Metal?"

The archer was referring to the video game again. He pointed toward the living room, while Victor kept staring forward. The odds of "Agent" Clint Barton lying to him in that moment were pretty high. S.H.I.E.L.D. was still trying to track down Ezekiel, so the coincidence wasn't ignored.

Victor thought of that as he glanced over toward his bedroom door. The baby sorcerer made a heavy decision, because living with Ezekiel made something within Victor eventually develop.

He hated being alone in his room, so ...

"Uhh, yeah. Sure."

Something like a thirst had developed, or possibly a craving. Victor was trying to understand it, and he was getting pretty annoyed with himself.

He hung up his jacket by the door, then he followed his friendly roommate over toward the TV.
